Backup & Recovery in Version 11.1.2.1 Essbase

Hello

We are implementing Essbase Application for purposes, users get the data of Essbase by OBIEE and SmartView comes from the statement. During the process of implementation, we also required to work the back and recovery.

The current enforcement Nature:

  • Essbase version is 11.1.2.1, implemented in high availability clustered environment and model of Fail-Over. Having 2 nodes Essbase mounted on Microsoft cluster Services, share the same Aborpath.
  • Purpose of Essbase Application, will be used for reporting purposes.
  • Essbase App type is BSO.
  • Level of data export from the cube before starting to generate metadata is LEVEL 0

Backup and restore strategy:

From the foregoing, it is clear that it is useless to apply transaction logging settings to capture the data entries. Can you review my backup strategy and add if I'm wrong, please.

My Intention is to automate the backup and restore by writing scripts to Windows controls.

Backup strategy:

With on the maintenance of the database in Archive Mode (because no update is allowed).

    1. Export data of level 0.
    2. Stop the Essbase Service, i.e., stop the Agent.
    3. Write a lot of windows Script to take backup of all Essbase artifacts as well as the data of level 0 export file and move to the Archive Folders / any other place.
    4. Articats being included .pag .ind, .esm, .tct, .ind, .otl, .lro, .otn, .db, .ddb, .sec. sec.bak, .cfg, .app, .csc .rul. Rep.
    5. Once the backup of those files completed, restart the Service Essbase
    6. End of Maintenance activity

Concerns about the approach described above:

The Essbase Application implemented model of cluster; That soon the OPMN service is stopped on node 1(after Max. 3 attempts), he fail-over lock NODE2 and wedges on all artifacts. How can we reach this situation? Can we still continue with the backup? I presume that, his idea not sure to do a backup with Essbase Service is running.

You can by the little light on the way to overcome this, please.

Recovery strategy:

To restore a database in the event of damage/loss to the demand for different reasons, for example Application Crash / Performing PROD to Dr. Fail-Over

  1. Stop the Essbase Application and database and to ensure that the application does not accept client connections
  2. Replace the files on the disk with the corresponding files in the backup.
  3. Start the database of data & Essbase App
  4. Load the data of level 0, which has been backed up.
  5. Continue with regular data files loading and Script calculations.
  6. End of the restoration of the App

Please review the approach and add points if I missed something here. Approach is theortical right here, so not included all MaxL scripts because I know the commands used to perform each step.

Kind regards

UB

There is a lot of information on the syntax of the command line for microsoft, find failover clustering and you will find.

Yes archive to classify, read about it more in detail in the backup and restore guide.

See you soon

    Anyone know the difference between the Version of the backup and the version of the Image field of the recovery of the IOS on a WLC? I have recently updated my WLC 5508 to the new code and the version of backup is infact the previous active version I was running but the field recovery Image version is now the previous backup version. I was wondering what the differences were. Is the FRIV a backup for the backup? Thank you.

    Chris.

    The field recovery Image, it's what you get when you interrupt the boot process.  The backup image, as you noted, is the last image you upgraded.

    So if you are running 6.0.196.0 and upgrade to 7.2.130.0, 6.0.196.0 will be the image of "backup."  If you hit the CLI and boot config backup.  During the next restart the WLC will mount on 6.0.19.60(though il est toujours considéré comme sauvegarde et 7.2 sera «primaire»)

Especially since most of the notifications are 'NAGs' about 'try our cloud services' (I don't want them), or "upgrade to the pro version" (NOT a chance). They are opinions only in so much as they try to me I don't want to sell.

    Hi, due to problems in communicating with you, here I called Technical Support this morning (Dell case Ref: 895569609). They were able to confirm that, after you create a recovery on the USB media, had no reason why I couldn't just go ahead and uninstall Dell Backup & Recovery. They also confirmed that when you access Backup & Recovery via the Windows Start menu troubleshooting (accessed via F8 as Windows starts), it is run from the hidden restore partition and not affected by the uninstall of the Windows software itself. That's what I've went ahead and did to get rid of notifications. What about George

    As to this subject? You calculate the RCS based on any time you want. If you change the time, you must be unambiguous. See http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0:P11_QUESTION_ID:3297071155886

    You can use scn_to_timestamp and it is converse to switch back, at least the previous 5 days (in current versions). Granularity of SNA varies according to the version of 5 minutes and 3 seconds.

    Should I order the kit Media Ststem recovery for consumer notebook, which is a set of 4 discs?   and that's all that I need to install to return to the State wherever it was when I bought it new.  Are there other discs that I need to order or just that?

  • Creation of backup recovery disks

    Hello Forum,

    When you use the backup recovery disc creation program, is a copy of all the recovery disc (d created or are the files from the (c drive also copied?)) With this drive, I'll then be able to restart my laptop with a new hard drive.

    Thank you very much

    FM.

    Hello

    While the recovery discs are just a bootable copy of the recovery partition D, operating after replacing the HARD drive, it will reinstall all the original scores (Windows C, HP_TOOLS, recovery D etc.) on the new drive - the machine will be in the State it was at the time of purchase.

  • Create a backup recovery

    Is this possible on a drive hard laptop usb or should it be a flash drive?

    I thought to partition my drive hard portable 1 TB and dedicate it to the backup recovery.

    Thank you

    No, you need to save in a flash disk to bootable USB, you can back up an external HARD drive and retrieve the image with programs like daughters reflect.

  • Using a USB flash drive for backup more driver and application backup recovery

    I have a 32 GB flash drive I used to create a recovery for my Aspire S7 backup using Windows 8.1. I understand that in creating this backup everything on the flash drive is deleted before creating backup. Can I now use this drive for other purposes, e.g., pilots and backup applications, pictures, documents, etc., or this flash drive now should he remain dedicated to the sole purpose of being a backup recovery?

    Hi zimmerbob

    I keep as a backup to dedicated recovery flash drive and use one for drivers & applications.

    It is always wise to keep the recovery discs, as well as the recovery disks. Flash memory is quite inexpensive for the moment!

    You can do a repair disk or an image of the system - the two are below.

    Create the system repair disc

    1. Open backup and restore by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking the backup and restore.
    2. In the left pane, click on create a system repair disc and follow the steps. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    Create a System Image in Windows 7

    After you install and activate Windows 7 create a system image as a backup of your current computer in case you need to reinstall it. This will restore your computer to its exact state when the image has been made - which will save you the trouble of having to reinstall Windows 7 and installed everything currently again, and it takes much less time to do.

    1. click on the Start Menu and type "Save", and then click Backup of your files.

    2. in the Control Panel window that appears, click the blue link to the image.

    3 create a system image window should pop up.  Select which hard disk, DVD, or network location, you'll save your image.  Click next to continue.

    4. on the next page, check disks in your system and your system for.  Once you have selected the drives, click next to continue. Note: You can select as many records as you want (if available), but you choose to include means to the greater will be the size of the image.

    5. the next window is just a review, make sure everything is correct, and then click Start backup to start the process.  It may take 10 minutes or more, so patience is needed.

    6. once the backup is complete, you will be asked with the option to create a system repair disc.  It's a good idea, just in case your system has problems in the future.  Click Yes.

    7 choose which drive to record the disc you use to burn the disc.  Insert a CD or a blank DVD for the physical disk, and then click on create disc.

    Yes.

    I would like to point out something that you may not realize: Windows 8
    has two interfaces; the modern/Metro Interface (which may be all the)
    you have looked at) and the traditional desktop Interface. You can use
    one or both. This traditional desktop Interface is almost
    identical to the interface of Windows 7. the biggest difference is that
    There is no Orb start clicking to bring up the start menu.
    But note that you can get the ORB start by using one of the many
    third-party programs, are free or very cheap (the classic interface
    http://classicshell.sourceforge.NET/ and debut8 to
    http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/; my personal preference is
    Debut8, but they are both very good).  And goes from an interface to
    the other is very easy; There are several ways, but simply by pressing
    the Windows key is perhaps the easiest.
    I use Windows 8, almost exclusively with traditional workstations
    the interface and with 8 Start installed. If you were to look at and use
    my computer, you would have a hard time realizing that it is not
    Windows 7.

  • Backup & Recovery in virtual environment

    Hello

    I need help to establish a good Backup & Recovery Strategy for VM-Ware with Oracle databases.

    Currently we use veeam backup the entire Virtual Machine during the night maintannce-window. On the virtual machine, we use RMAN to back up the databases, archivelogs fall under the machine.

    My problem:

    -If the virtual machine failure during the day, for example 16:00, cause of lost storage / instant failure that blocks the machine - I lose changes all day.

    So, where is the best place to save the logs to check-in during the day and how do I recover after an accident mentioned above? First step would be to recover the virtual machine with veeam, but subsequently? The database do not know what archivelogs were written, cause it contained last night?

    Thanks for your help.

    PS, we got the problem of the snapshot-crash on another machine, so it's really a thing that can happen.

    User106somethingorother,

    If you want to be able to recover in the case of the virtual machine / virtual disks are gone, you must ensure that your backups and archiving logs copied somewhere else.

    The users guide backup and restore (available at http://docs.oracle.com) would be the place to go to find out how to recover the database in many different scenarios, including one where you have lost direct control files and RMAN would therefore know about archiving logs is available.

    Kind regards

  • "backup recovery area" ignore all save them

    Hello everyone.

    I use 11.2.0.4 on OL 6.5 EE.

    I use suggested the Oracle backup strategy above I use "backup recovery area" at the end of the script and I spotted that he doesn't know to save them all. Please notify.

    Hello everyone and thanks for your help.

    I studied the issue and has managed to solve.

    First I mw show you the parameters persistent rman:

    Database with db_unique_name MYDB RMAN configuration parameters are:

    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY OF 7-DAY WINDOW;

    CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION

    SET UP DEFAULT DISK DEVICE TYPE;

    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;

    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT for DEVICE TYPE DISK to "+ fra/mydb/controlfile/%F";

    SET UP THE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 1 BACKUP BACKUPSET TYPE;

    CONFIGURE BACKUP OF DATA TO DISK FILE TYPE DEVICE TO 1;

    CONFIGURE BACKUP ARCHIVELOG FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1;

    CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED;

    CONFIGURE THE DATABASE ENCRYPTION

    CONFIGURE THE ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM "AES128";

    CONFIGURE COMPRESSION ALGORITHM 'BASIC' AND 'DEFAULT' LIBERATION OPTIMIZE FOR TRUE LOAD;

    CONFIGURE THE NONE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY;

    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO ' / oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs/snapcf_mydb.f';

    Now I use another script to take my backup and it works fine

    RMAN > run {}

    2 > crosscheck backup;

    3 > overlapping copy;

    4 > overlap archivelog all;

    5 > DELETE noprompt EXPIRED ARCHIVELOG ALL;

    6 > delete noprompt ARCHIVELOG until TIME ' SYSDATE-8';

    7 > DELETE noprompt EXPIRED BACKUP;

    8 > delete noprompt obsolete;

    9 > GET COPY OF DATABASE WITH TAG 'PAYMENT' until ' SYSDATE-8';

    10 > LEVEL 1 INCREMENTAL BACKUP TO RECOVER WITH THE TAG 'MYDB' COPY DATABASE;

    {11 >}

    12 > run {}

    13 > GAME CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT for DEVICE TYPE DISK TO ' / storage/flash_recovery_area/MYDB/controlfile/%F';

    14 > save destination recovery area "/ storage/flash_recovery_area";

    15 > BACKUP VALIDATE CHECK DATABASE LOGIC ARCHIVELOG ALL;

  • "BACKUP RECOVERY AREA DESTINATION" and several channels

    Hello

    I'm on 11 GR 2.

    I use the feature OF "< specific directory >" DESTINATION of the order of CONSERVATION RECOVERY AREA

    staging the backup, my CRF, a few hours earlier. I wish

    1 / to be able to compress this backup in my <>directory (my regular backup to the FRA is * not *)

    Tablet!) ;

    2 / and to parallelize this staging.

    Here http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10643/rcmsubcl018.htm#CIHBDIGE

    at some point, they say that "this paragraph, when it is used with the BACKUP RECOVERY AREA , allows.

    allowing you to designate a drive as the location channel': How do you understand this? Do you want that he woud allow you

    to specify things like

    Run {}

    ALLOCATE CHANNEL c1 DEVICE TYPE disk FORMAT ' / usr/oracle/FRAstaging ' MAXPIECESIZE 100 G;

    TYPE of DEVICE of c2 ALLOCATE CHANNEL FORMAT drive "/ usr/oracle/FRAstaging ' MAXPIECESIZE 100 G;

    recovery zone backup destination c1;

    recovery zone backup destination c2;

    }

    or should I rather do something like:

    Run {}

    TYPE of DEVICE of c1 ALLOCATE CHANNEL MAXPIECESIZE 100 G drive.

    TYPE of DEVICE of c2 ALLOCATE CHANNEL MAXPIECESIZE 100 G drive.

    recovery zone backup destination "/ usr/oracle/FRAstaging";

    }

    or simply? :

    Run {}

    TYPE of DEVICE of c1 ALLOCATE CHANNEL MAXPIECESIZE 100 G drive.

    TYPE of DEVICE of c2 ALLOCATE CHANNEL MAXPIECESIZE 100 G drive.

    backup recovery area;

    }

    Has anyone tried to stage his FRA on some directory of operating system or backup tape?

    Which of the above syntax is correct? Any idea?

    Thank you very much!

    Kind regards

    SEB

    Hello

    The correct syntax is the second. Take a look:

    RMAN> run {
    2>  ALLOCATE CHANNEL c1 DEVICE TYPE disk MAXPIECESIZE 1G;
    3>  ALLOCATE CHANNEL c2 DEVICE TYPE disk MAXPIECESIZE 1G;
    4>  backup recovery area to destination '/u04/temp';
    5>}

    allocated channel: c1
    channel c1: SID=453 device type=DISK

    allocated channel: c2
    channel c2: SID=36 device type=DISK

    Starting backup at 09-OCT-14
    specification does not match any datafile copy in the repository
    channel c1: starting compressed archived log backup set
    channel c1: specifying archived log(s) in backup set
    ......

    The first syntax is bad because you can't say "to destination c1. The destination must be a path.

    The third argument is false because ' RMAN-06603: DESTINATION option must be specified with the AREA of RECOVERY, RECOVERY of FILES or DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST on the disk device.

    Kind regards

  • Using more of a VMWare backup recovery

    Hi all

    I'm sitting here und think next idea:

    We have 10 servers that must be saved. We use a VDR (VM Backup Recovery) for this. Thus, sometimes the catalog crashes and it takes neerly a day to fix it. While this time I can´t of backup or restore anything.

    These backups are on the same SAN as my ESX machines. So I have the big problem, if everything crashes (raid or more than 1 HDD) I have no chance to recover anything.

    Yes, I know that this is not 100% optimal. either way... we have no money to buy a second SAN!

    the idea was to develop an other VDR and connect it to a Terastation. Speed is absolutely secondary. This VDR would save computers same like the first VDR. (not at the same time, for example SQL Server is saved on VDR1 on VDR2 and 06:00 on 09:00)

    The biggest would be:

    -If VDR 1 catalog crashes, VDR2 works and I can fix the VDR1 without missing the backups or recoveryoptions

    -If my STI SAN crashing, I can use my Terastation to fix everything (the speed is secondary)

    What do you think of this idea?

    Good bye

    Andy

    You can define 2 different backup locations in a single device. So you can save on Monday for the first location and Tuesday for the second and so on. When an integrity check runs more than 24 hours, you have the second location-data store to restore on the same device operations. If you have enough backup-time, you can also save each VM twice in one day in two places at different times. In the event of a disaster you will be lucky and maybe lose only a location of data store and have all your backups without waitiing for the completion of the audit of integrity or something as a recataloguer. Up to now this works very well in my environment with 5 appliances and 180 VM. I use no more than 30 virtual machines for a single device, because integrity, check runs throughout.
