Backup & Restore use
I bought Windows Vista Business as I was told that he had a good data backup and restore program. The tool does not provide the capability to select SPECIFIC files to back up. In other words, when I specify 'documents', it does not save any document that is located in one of my business subdirectories; backup only the documents in the default DOCUMENT folder. Is there a way to cause the backup and restore tool to back up the files that are not in the default path that is coded into the tool?
Thanks in advance - wiredgeorge
Select the files to backup. By default, Vista provides a set of pre-selected, such as photos, music and video file types (which is nothing other than my documents). To choose the types of files not listed, select 'additional files '. Click "next". Note that only files that are located on NTFS-formatted partitions can be backed up. System, the executable and temporary files are not options.

Restore files, backup created using Vista, you try to restore using XP
I've known a failuren hard drive on my laptop running Vista Ultimate. I have a backup on an external hard drive.
I'm still hoping that I can recover data from faulty hard disk, but it doesn't look promising.
In the meantime, I'm trying to restore the backup files using my previous laptop, which is running XP. When I try to select the files to restore by using the backup/restore application, it can't find all the appropriate files. He seems to want a file with an extension "BKF", but I can't find the external hard disk.
Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance.

How to start other backup sets using Vista Hm Prem backup and restore correct files list
I use the bkup & restore functionality premium Vista Hm to bkup my pc data and programs for a Seagate ext HDD. It seemed to work fine with XP; now, I don't know. Here's a glimpse of what I shot of Microsoft & other sources on the operation of the backup process.
When you start a bkup 'set' is created in a folder on the external HARD disk or other medium with a complete bkup of selected disks, partitions, etc. The following bkups are incremental files rather than full new copies, but these files are added to the original folder.
Later, if you wish, you can create additional bkup sets by a new complete bkup that will be created in a new folder. The following incremental update for any complete bkups additional files will be saved in the parent folder. After starting an another full bkup, prior bkup overall is "sealed" or closed, so to speak; He will not receive any updates. Each set of bkup is assigned a unique name that includes full creation date bkup & times. I read in several places that you can REMOVE bkup sets simply deleting records set bkup on the ext HDD when using this device. My understanding is correct?
- How do you start a 2nd bkup located in a new folder of Vista & restore backup? The only way I found, (I did a year ago), is to change the specifications bkup (disks, partitions in the bkup) to force a new complete bkup. This isn't a useful way to do this when you care change the source data.
- Delete-restore question: I noticed before I couldn't get a 2010 older file that was in an available according to Vista records restore; Error = not found backup file! Recently, after reading more, I checked the folders on the drive HARD Seagate Ext in Windows Explorer and found only 2 whole bkup - earlier was dated 25/09/2011. I next went to the center of Vista backup & restore for a list of the bkups over 30 days that I had. There were about 35 cases bkup dated prior to the 25/09/2011, which dates back to June 2010. I then tried to restore some files (of the folders listed in the backup restore Center &, but does not appear on the Ext HDD). I got the same msg of error as before every time I tried. I think that I have can I have deleted a bkup set off the ext HDD a year or more ago that contains these older files. Why the Center backup restore & still displays them? How can I fix the table in the center of backup restore &?
Thanks for the help!
Hello
Are you referring to the full backup or a backup image?
First of all, I would say that scan you SFC on the computer that would be a system file corrupt on the computer search and replace.

How to use Windows NT Backup - Restore
Hello
I followed the instructions from Microsoft to download Windows NT Backup - Restore and have some to trun on removable storage management. But still no idea of how to make to restore .bkf files from my external hard drive to my laptop that is running Windows Vista. I created these Windows XP by using the backup and restore utility.
When I go to the "backup and Restore Center" in Vista, it still does not recognize these backup files. And I can't open them directly by going into the computer, then in the external drive and try to open the file.
Thank you
RowanAre you clicking on the program that you downloaded? I guess you need to run this program rather than anything to do with Vista backup and restore.

How plan 2 separate backup jobs using Windows 7 backup & restore?
How plan 2 separate backup jobs using Windows 7 backup & restore? I would like to back up some files more frequently than others.
Hello CasPhillips,
Try to use Task Scheduler to schedule two separate backups.
Otherwise, you may need to use a 3rd party backup solution.

iPhone 6 s - 100% carbon copy backup/restore to iTunes - is that possible?
Hello
I am trying to find a way to save/restore an iPhone via iTunes installation so that the restoration of places any return on the phone with the same configuration (essentially, an exact clone of the original installation that is being backed up).
Questions that I met with attempts to use iTunes for backup/restore:
- Passwords and other security information do not restore.
- Applications not getting restored
- WIFI networks not get restored
- attached randomly do not restore (some, not all).
iCloud backups solve this problem (sort of).
- It takes an internet connection takes too long and medium, and you are left without a phone can be used for a period of time, so that the restore process is complete. I'd rather do it via iTunes.
- Passwords and other security information do not restore.
Any help please? In the end, I'm looking for a way to backup my phone to a PC and restore it so it looks identical to how it did before the backup.
For a long time (perhaps in the iPhone 4/5 days?) this process described above works, 100%. Apple changed something in recent years.
Thank you
Bob
The backup does not contain music or apps, because they should be in the media library iTunes on your computer, and if you synchronize right after that the restoration of the backup is then reinstalled. Normally this is done automatically when you perform a restore if you not to interrupt.
Passwords and health data are only saved if you choose encrypted backup.
There is no way to make a backup "image" of the phone, but if you use Encrypted and let run until the end, that it will restore everything the way it was.

I'm trying to import and backup/restore/Choose file... / after backup correctly and I see the file, but there is no JSON extension. What can I do?
I backed up my favorites using 'import and backup/Backup' on an external HD, installed Windows 10 and went to restore my bookmarks and noticed the file named "Firefox bookmarks-2015-09-04"had no extension and does not work."
Please advise! Thank you! Sincerely, s
If you add the .json extension, it works then? Why people who design browsers or extensions them do create files with no extension name, in spite that these extension names are essential to make the files can be restored? I could never understand that.

So, recently, my iPhone 6 had a lot of questions (most applications would be closed from the opening, I couldn't update apps, all the texts and iMessages disappeared, Messages turns uses a lot of storage despite the removal of all, etc.) and a person on one of these forums recommended to back up the phone, restore factory settings and then restore the backup to the phone. I got no problem with that, until I tried to restore the iTunes backup. When I try to do, I get the following message: "iTunes can't restore iPhone «...»» "because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone, which is being restored. "I read that to solve this problem, I just need to delete the backup but the problem is that it's the only backup I had to restore my phone. Is there a way to recover this backup or is my only option again?
Thank you in advance.
It seems that the backup could have caused all the problems you had. Backup, restore factory settings and then restore the backup are a standard troubleshooting step, but if the backup is corrupt, you can not use and you can not get corrupted.
You can restart all and try again, but I think that the results will be the same. You need to restore as new.

change the backup/restore disc
can I change this disk will my backup/restore point to? He uses my external drive now even if I didn't change it. I have a laptop & cannot bet that the external drive connects or is connected.
HI RJHinSA,
You can go there. This is guidance on how to change to the high places.
If you need more information, simply open help, support and type "how to make the backup.
Change when you save your filesWhen you configure your computer to automatically back up files, you specify a location where the files will be stored. You can change this location if you run out of space in the current location or you want to change the type of storage location (for example, a DVD, a hard disk on your computer or a shared folder on another computer on a network).
Click to open the backup center and restoration.
Click on change settings.
Click on modify backup settings and follow the steps in the wizard. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Backup/restore problem: some files not restored
My hard drive died. Fortunately, I had a recent backup. I managed to restore most of my files and also finally got access to my file of Microsoft Outlook data (due to gurus on these forums).
I'm now trying to recover the data for my financial program. I checked the files in the backup folder, and they understand the data I want to restore. However, when I go through the restored files, I don't find them. I try to avoid having to enter again about 1 1/2 years of data.
The backup was performed on a laptop Dell running Vista Ultimate and was stored on a USB external drive. It was made using the backup/restore program that comes with Vista.
Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance.
I'm now moving extra files on my USB key for added security.
I would like to know if there is an easy way to remove duplicate files that take up more space on my hard drive.
However, the original problem is now solved.
Thanks again.

My computer crashed while updating. It's a double 4 year old HP desktop processor. I could get into the repair screen, but nothing would be useful. I backed up data (115 GB) using the tools available on a drive hard usb. They are under the folder MINWIN and meet 31 different files. All I get is the demand to put in the disc. I copied the last file on DVD, but it will not read it. All other recovery programs say there is no backup file.
I have backup, with an extension of FBW 32 filesHelpHello
1. are you able to boot to the desktop now?
2 have you tried to reinstall the operating system?
3. what program did you use to create a backup?
4. do you get an error code or error message?According toOberwald, it seems that fbw files are generated by HP, not Vista backup tool. I suggest you to read the following article to restore files from Microsoft.
Backup and restore: frequently asked questions:
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/back-up-and-restore-frequently-asked-questionsIf you are not able to boot to the desktop, then I would suggest trying the following methods and check if it helps.
Method 1:
Start in safe mode and then try to run the restoration of the system to a point before you install the update and check if the problem persists.
Step 1: Start in SafeMode in Windows 7:
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-modeStep 2: System Restore:
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/products/features/system-restore
Method 2:
If you used a third-party program, and then try to restore using the same program and check that it works.

Hope the information is useful.

Is this greater disk and the only one that have made us or are there other larger readers as well?
In the affirmative. then, it might be something with the drive.
We might want to run chkdsk on it:
- Press the Windows key and press R.
- Type CMD.
- Right click on CMD. EXE EXE in the search box, and then select run as administrator.
- At the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:
CHKDSK
: / f where
= the drive letter for the plu player. - Type EXIT and press ENTER.
Let us know if it detects errors.
