Backup Wizard

I have a disk partitioned on pc. I use one side as the backup that is updated every week. How can I configure the backup settings keep the most recent backup and at the same time not tie on unnecessary space by duplicating backups.

I also agree with you on the use of Google and have never actually setup this service at all because it is already part of the Android OS. I really believe that it is very convenient for those who aren't quite cranky and maybe coming from a dumb phone and need to get their contacts on their Android and they have saved their previous phone with her.

  • Backup Wizard stops at 5 GB

I am trying to use the XP Backup Wizard backs up to a 32 GB external drive.  About 5 GB, the backup shutdown and a message informs you that the 'band' is full.  What I am doing wrong?

    Its a FAT32 healthy.

There you go: the maximum size of a file in a FAT32 drive is 4 GB less 1 byte.

Reformat the Flash DRIVE to NTFS (see--> http://lifehacker.com/5195783/format-a-usb-drive-as-ntfs-in-windows-xp)

Apparently, you must set the strategy of "optimizing performance" so that the format utility offer NTFS option.  Once the disk is formatted, however, you can (and should) put it to "optimize for quick removal".

If it were me, I wouldn't count on a flash drive to my backup (even though they were better; see--> http://genealogysstar.blogspot.com/2011/01/update-on-reliability-of-flashdrives.html).  For an interesting analysis of the long-term using flash drives backup, see http://ask.metafilter.com/182334/How-long-does-Flash-Data-last-if-drive-is-only-used-once

Also, I would not use NTBackup (backup utility built-in to Windows XP), but would use a disk cloning/imaging application.

  • Backup Wizard will not display

    Hello
I backed up my computer to my external hard drive several times before going to the control panel configuration, performance & maintenance, backup data - how the wizard appears.
"Today, when I click on ' save data ' I get the little hourglass for a few seconds, but the screen of the wizard just never came up.  I tried to go through Start - accessories - backup - system tools, but still nothing.  If the wizard has been disabled in some way, how I can to reactivate.  My system is Windows xp media center version 2005.   What could have happened to the Backup Wizard?  I'm not least add and remove programs.  Should I try restore at the end of December (it's the back option more distant date, that seems to me)? Finally, I made a backup of the external hard drive 11/21/09.   Last week an automatic update has restarted my computer - could that deleted this wizard?
    Help, please.  Thank you

  • FAILED TO CREATE THE SYSTEM BACKUP WIZARD USING RECOVERY DISK

I use Windows XP Professional and is trying to create a system recovery disk using the backup and Recovery Wizard.
I backup all the info on my laptop on an external device.
The wizard said at the beginning that at the end of the process I will ask you to insert a cd to create a system recovery disk.
In fact it asks me to insert a cd.
(After the backuo is complete), it just says that there is no cd in the floppy drive so a system recovery disk could not be created.

So, I would be grateful for any help with ths frustrating problem.

  • CSA for ICM/IPCC and SQL Backup Wizard

I have CSA for ICM (version 4.5 - 1 build 639) installed on all our servers to the ICM. It prevents SQL to make its backups to a network share. I stop the CSA and backups work fine. Thus, the permissions aren't too bad on the share drive. The backup works fine if the backup is created locally, is not a better practical backup strategy.

Does anyone know of a work around?

    Thank you

the CSA managed product will work without problem. You can customize the policy to work with any backup software.

  • Using Windows backup or Restore Wizard

If I backed up the selected files (Documents and settings, programs and Windows operating system) on a secondary hard drive, why records are not visible on the disc, on which they have been saved? I see icons on the correct backup drive backup, but they offer the Backup Wizard to restore files.

Assuming that you used the backup utility provided with Windows XP, this is how it works. It creates a single compressed backup file of all the files you requested to back up.

You're right, that Windows XP requires a floppy drive to create the recovery disk.

  • Can I download Windows XP Backup and Restore Wizard?

When I bought my computer I did not receive the Windows XP disks.  I want to make a backup of the entire system on an external hard drive, as opposed to the individual file backup.  All the help files I've found say to insert the XP disc.  Then I found the Backup Wizard online and install it directly to my computer?

Since the Microsoft Answers forum does not have any kind of information system request when a new question is asked, we know absolutely nothing about your system.  Not knowing the basic information a problem prolongs the frustration and the agony of these issues.

Thank you MS Answers, allowing the resolution of simple problems as frustrating and a lot of time as possible.

If you are using XP Home Edition, you will need to install the XP Backup utility yourself and here are some instructions on how to do it.

If you are not using XP Home and XP backup is to give you some grief, try to describe the issue in more detail.

The backup program is automatically installed on XP Professional, but not on XP Home. If you have the genuine bootable XP Home installation CD, insert it into your system and navigate to this folder:

    \ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP

Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file to start the installation.

Here is a nice article from Microsoft which tell you all this:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=302894

Here is another article that explains how to:

    http://www.winxptutor.com/Ntbackup.htm

If you don't have an installation CD and need to download the Ntbackup.msi file, here is the link if you can download:
    http://www.winxptutor.com/Ntbackup.htm

If you are using in relying on the built in NT backup to back up your system, it is the primitive technology (obviously - because you will be asked for a floppy disk).  If you have a disaster (even minor), you will have a big problem, trying to recovery your stuff, if you don't have a floppy drive.

If you want to make a backup, it makes sense to use modern technology - and that the technology is not integrated into XP.

There are many popular options for XP Backup and imaging software (s) of third parties.

A people a popular seem to love East of Acronis.

With this (free 30 day trial) you backup, you can make a bootable CD or bootable USB (which is modern, huh?) and use than disaster.

They used to have a completely free version - maybe no more - just the trial, then you must buy it, but it is highly respected.

It is so much more robust than the XP Backup, it's laughable.

Many other options if you do a little research on Google...

Here are a few products that PML has proposed may be attractive (use Google to find them):

    Acronis
    Macrium Reflect
    Paragon backup and restore
    DriveImageXML

Some disk cloning software for you to Google ideas:

    Acronis True Image Home 11
    EASEUS ToDo Backup
Paragon Drive Copy or Partition Manager Personal
    Casper
    Norton Ghost

  • SBS 2008 backup automatic Wizard fails cannot configure the backup schedule

I need to install a new drive for backup for SBS 2008.

The new drive is 3 T. The backup requires 567G.

The Backup Wizard fails with the message "cannot configure the backup schedule.

I looked on the MS Support and the only link is related to the target being too small. Although does not here apply.

The log file indicates that the operation failed because "the critical volumes cannot be excluded", but I included C drive in its entirety. There is a system drive D, but it is not available in the backup configuration.

    Any suggestions?

  • Not able to take backup on external drive.

    Original title: backup and backup Open files;

I have just startde to use Office 2007 with Windows XP Pro. I'm doing a backup on my external drive "F". When I try to open the file or folder of this drive in R / clicking > open, it brings back me to the wizard to backup & restore instead. The window that opens when I R / click on the file/folder on drive F is so different; It shows a selection "Edit" at the top, followed by "Open", followed by "7-Zip", 'open with' ' Scan with "," send to "etc. No "Explore". I was unable to open the folder or file in any given method. Make the backup I use the Backup Wizard and have used the advanced, and normal method. On the F drive backup icon appears, but it seems to be empty or such. What I do wqrong? I need your HELP, please and thank you: HDScala

    Hi JoelJ1964,

Thank you very much for your help. Before using this laptop, I used my old computer with WIN XP Pro and Office 2003. I was able to back up to the external hard drive F and then open and work with files or files, as in copy and paste to the C drive everything I need. Office 2007 does not work the same? I use Windows XP pro here as well. In addition, I seem to have several folders "My Documents" on "My Computer" tree. A top under the desk, then 'User' in Documents and Settings, I 'My Documents' and 'recent Documents '. In the latter folder, I found all the backups, many icons, real backup folder containing only 1 KB, and most appear to be shortcuts. I simply do not know what is happening here, although some files or folders are containing the info that I have previously saved in My Documents.

How can I know what a folder, when I returned to the Backup Wizard, follow the instructions in the wizard and the file or restore the right folder? I'll be able to see this only restored?

    Any suggestions or help or advise would be appreciated. Best regards, HDScala;

    Hi HDScala;

With all due respect, you're wrong to be able to open and edit files after using backup windows on your other computer. Using the backup utility is not the same as copy and paste. When you use backup image is created similar to the image below. When you use copy / paste, you are able to access immediately, open and edit the file. Backup doesn't work the same way. It compresses the files you selected to save then creates an image of the same thing. There is no option to change the format that uses the backup utility files.

The link below is a tutorial on windos xp backup utility.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/Setup/learnmore/bott_03july14.mspx

As for the several folders "My documents" you see, there's such a folder for each user account on the computer, including the default Administrator account. These records are quite normal.

The only strange thing, that you have pointed out the fact that you see the individual files in recent Documents. You should see the image created by the backup utility along with the documents you accessed physically.

  • XP Backup problem

I'm trying to retire a Windows XP machine with 12 GB of data of program/user on a hard drive partitioned three.  I use a USB 32 GB as my backup disk.  I tried using a backup and backup/copy the wizard approach backup.  Each time, the backup program runs for 1.5-2 hours, then stops abruptly at about 4 GB copied/saved.  When I check the properties of my USB, it shows 4 GB used, 26 GB of available.  What can I do to make the backup?  I intend to reformat the hard drive before recycling or give the machine.

Finally, I used the XP Backup Wizard so long that I don't remember really what he does, but I suspect he is trying to create a single file that contains all of the backup (good luck, by the way, try to use produce at least; see THIS ARTICLE).  If the USB drive is formatted using FAT32, the largest file that can be stored is 4 GB.

The first thing to do is to make sure that the USB stick is formatted with NTFS.  The second is to get a better backup program.  Personally, I prefer disk imaging programs such as the following:

If you have a Western Digital hard drive, you can get a version of Acronis True Image free of WD (http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119) or you can get the software of cloning separately (this is not an exhaustive list and in no particular order, some are free, some not):

    Acronis True Image Home
    EASEUS ToDo Backup
Paragon Drive Copy or Partition Manager Personal
    Casper
    Norton Ghost

    XXClone

    Macrium Reflect free

  • Backup Win XP does not recognize my external hard drive

Windows XP Backup Wizard does not recognize my external hard drive and does not list it as an option for storing backups.  I suspect a registry problem because the backup wizard previously recognized this drive and saved on it several times before I was running ARO 2012 for cleaning the registry errors.  I can always open the player in windows Explorer and see the files it contains, but Explorer Windows XP now lists the drive as an "expansion disc" instead of a 'removable disk '.  When I right click in windows Explorer and open 'properties' for this drive, it shows it as a 'local disk' instead of a 'removable disk '.  The drive is ok when I click the button 'Remove hardware safely', and it reports "safe to remove hardware" after I click on "USB storage device - Drive (J :). ».  Help!

Who did.  Thank you!  Now... I used Aero2012 to clean up the errors in my registry that's because my computer is desperately slow, especially when you start (8-10 minutes) and also with internet explore (move cursor to previous typos when you compose a new e-mail message).  Is there a safe way for me to speed up my computer?

  • Advance Mode XP Backup, twice after backup is complete, cannot create an ASR file because I did not insert a floppy disk. I insert a disc in my drive, please help me how do.

Running a WindowsXP Professional, I tried twice to my systems backup using the Backup Wizard. Twice tried to use advanced mode to save. I have 3 choices, first Assistant backup, Second, Assistant food and finally Assistant recovery. I clicked on the wizard of recovery of automatic systems, the wizard to create a backup of the two parts of my systems, a diskette that has my systems settings and other media that contains a backup of my score of local systems.

Twice I tried to insert a disc into my drive and started to click on column e ASR. so to start the long process of backing up my files, after almost two hours later my backup files already completed, a screen appears saying: this isn't in my Wizard floppy drive cannot create ASR inside. He needs a disc with an ASR info, more data backup systems to restore my computer if it meets a major systems failure. My problem is, how to set the disk to my systems before starting settings to back up my files and data with the systems Advance Recovery Wizard first. Thank you.
