Bad sectors on hard drive

original title: defective sectors

Hello. Need some advice on bad sectors. I know they can be generated by hardware or physical or file system problems. CHKDSK will not then correct anticipates a clean install. Been reading upward and many people recommend low level formatting before the format/clean install in order to treat the bad sectors. Or the format during the clean install will be good enough? Thanks in advance.

If bad sectors are declared this means that the spare sector pool is exhausted, the drive went kaput, and needs to be replaced.  Keep in mind that once the bad sectors begin to appear the problem tends to be like a snowball rolling downhill, sectors start to fail at a growing pace and in an ever-increasing number.  The disc is really shot and can not be relied upon for anything, there is no solution for this problem.

You can download a diagnostic utility of disc from the drive manufacturer's web site and see this as the utility of reports.

  • Satellite L300 - several bad sectors on HARD drive

    Hello

I'm very angry with my Satellite L300 - 14G. One morning, my computer refuses to boot Vista, each attempt ended with a crash and go back to the choice of startup (with 'repair my computer', 'safe mode' and 'start windows normally').

I could save my data with a utility disk and try to "HDD Regenerator V1.71", which located a number of bad sectors on the HARD disk. I decided to put my computer as on the first day with the built-in utility.
Two weeks ago, the same problem.

I bought another hard drive and replaced it. Reinstalled Vista and my data... 1 month later... still the same problem (currently HDD Regenerator is scanning and find bad sectors 185!)
I don't think that would be caused by a virus. I use Nod32 and I don't do anything illegal with my machine.

Some mistakes seem to be generated every day... until the crash of the OS...
Anyone have ever seen such a problem?
(I bought in September 2008... no guarantee more for my machine)

Let's take a look at your problem:

-hdd went wrong and you are using a third party program to fix
+ Why don't check you with "chkdsk" and read the smart values of the disc? +
-you bought another hard drive and after a short period of time the same failure occurs
+ was the new hard drive, a big and cheap or a little and a little expensive? +

We will analyze what happened to your hard disks:
-recovery written datas sectorwise back in training > bad sector crashed > and an error occurs
-second hdd also went wrong > if this isn't a sustainable (expensive) hdd, it went bad because of operation > do you often take your laptop with you?

    This brings me to:
-check the smart get more information
-chech crc when reading from another source on the hard drive to verify if the hard drive or the controller or your memory gone bad
-get a 'good' hdd or spend it on tests
-make a recovery and everything right after a chkdsk to make sure that the file structure is ok before working with

I never heard of a disk controller brocken on the motherboard of this distributor - but what I know...

    HEY Kees,

There are other utilities that you can use to check your hard disk (Norton Disk Doctor for example) but CHKDSK is as good as all the others.

If you get repeated hard disk problems, then this is a good indication to a new hard drive. I suggest you try to backup your data even if you can't always. I'm not aware of any restrictions on the ability of any hard drive that you choose for your A10, but it must of course be the same as your existing drive form factor. You can also consider using a drive with a speed higher than the original drive.

    Kind regards

  • No boot sector on hard drive internal?

I got a Dell Latitude D610 with XP Professional pre-installed on a few years ago and it worked fine up until last month. I discovered that the hard drive crashed so I bought a new.

After I installed the new hard drive, when I turn on the computer to reinstall the operating system, I get the error "no boot sector on hard drive internal no bootable devices - strike F1 to retry Reboot, F2 for Setup utility"

Now, whenever I look in the BIOS, it is said that she read my hard drive. (40 GB HARD DRIVE) I know that the drive is empty and the OS installation disc has service pack 2 on it, but when I put the disc in I get the same error message. The drive, which I am using is a clean CD Windows XP Pro I had earlier.

I'm guessing that because the HARD drive is perfectly clean, is it not a MBR hard disk. I don't know how to get the disc to run and the diagnosis says that everything else is fine.

I am a student with a part-time job full time and cannot afford a new laptop or even an operating system for the moment. Could someone help me find a solution to this problem?

    OK, I solved the problem:

-J' have torn the XP Pro CD Image and stored on this desktop computer.
-J' mounted the ISO on my flash drive.
-J' took my laptop HARD drive
-On my laptop, I set the BIOS to boot from USB
-I reconnected it the HARD drive while the computer has booted the OS Setup
-J' reinstalled the operating system of the
-Download the drivers on the Dell site and put on another flash drive
-Install the drivers on my laptop

Now, it works fine. Like everything new again. Daavee and THIS_IS_INSANE, you two are awesome! Thanks for the help. x]

  • Cannot start. Don't get the error "no boot sector on hard drive internal.

Original title: computer does not load.

After that I turned on my laptop (windows XP) I get a black screen saying "no boot sector on hard drive internal" "no devices bootable-strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for installation; After pressing F1 displays the same screen and if I press F2 Setup screen appears and then I'm lost. Help please!

    Hi Jose_luna47,

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. When was the last time it was working fine?

    Method 1

I suggest that you perform chkdsk analysis on the computer to check and fix the errors on the hard drive by using the recovery console.

    Chkdsk

    Method 2

If the previous step fails, then you will need to check the settings in the basic input/output system (BIOS) and you need to contact the computer manufacturer for help with basic input/output system (BIOS).

Important: Change (CMOS) BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

  • No boot sector on hard drive

Hard to buy a new car trying to download windows xp and it came with. No boot sector on hard drive.

If it's a new hard drive, it will have to be formatted before it can be used.
Insofar as of the start of the LiveCD I guess 1) you have created the CD help to burn ISO to CD option and 2) that you have selected the option to boot in the BIOS (or the other make the first CD start or start at least temporary) to boot from the CD.

  • Sectors defective HARD drive on the Qosmio F60 series

    Hello

For about the last 6 months, I struggled to determine what was causing crashes repeated on slowdown on my Qosmio F60, which was aged under 2 months.

Unfortunately I am currently not in the country of purchase and don't have an international warranty. I had to reinstall the entire operating system and all the software used (think the or not!) more than 6 times.

Finally, I installed Norton Ghost 15.0 to be able to avoid reinstalling again and back up important data. When you use Norton Ghost I had to run chkdsk /r on the hard drive and now the real problem surfaced.

This machine had a hard drive which behaved as if it was very old. Continous bad sectors where being generated. Which means that I had to replace the so-called new hard drive.

What I want now is the specifications for the internal hard drive. for Qosmio F60 14 R machines. Because I don't have a domestic guarantees, I would rather replace the drive myself, than to hire a service charge.

    Hello
The new generation of mobile phones are supported SATA drives.
You can buy HARD drive 2.5 SATA.

By the way: the Drive Fitness Test Utility is quite nice freeware software that allows you to run diagnostic tests. You can use it to test the fitness of the HARD drive

  • XW6600: My XW6600 gives my hard drive problems!

So, after much work and DIY, I did my workstation XW6600 works like a charm... or a little.

After you have asked here and it work, I bought a HARD drive of 2 TB as a file storage drive but lately is bugging me off the coast. It's almost a year and the computer worked perfectly so far.

The second hard drive disconnects and stops showing on Windows on certain occasions, especially if I copy/written on this subject.

I tried to change the port, because it worked once before, but it is not serious, it's the same thing after a few days, works very well.

    Thanks in advance.

Well, I know I don't give a lot of information, but I think I might have found the problem.

I first of all so that it could be a motherboard problem (I don't know, maybe some incompatibilities with some HARD drive I don't know), but seemed unlikely because everything, including SSD, works very well. Then I tried to google my model of HARD drive with 'bug' or 'problem '.

My bad luck with hard drives is legendary. Really, the only two (1, 2) of hard disks that I bought in the last few years, each of them had problems with firmware. Well, even the (SSD) have one, partially fixed by the firmware update.

So, I found an old PCI SATA controller and tried to connect the HARD drive to it and... still the same problem. Time to look for something on this hard drive.

I found this thread in T H and they solution they found is to change the power settings for "never stop".

I hope some of you find this useful.
