BEFSR81 to a BEFSR41

I'm trying to plug a model BEFSR41 for a model BEFSR81 router, which is my main router to my cable modem.  I was not able to locate any instructions as to how should I plug it.  Someone at - it ideas?  Thanks for any help.

Ed

hehehehe

Thank you!

And I would have thought that the answer to your question on the port of #8 / uplink would be in the owner's manual, but I just checked and I'll be @# $% ^ ed if it isn't here. Maybe Linksys was assume a certain level of knowledge base and experience of their customers. And that's a bad assumption in any profession in my experience.

The link port rising/MDX/MDXi on any network device is the port where you connect another network downstream device so that you don't have to buy or make a connecting network cable. So Bozo77 is the port you use to connect to a network switch. But only ONE of the 2 devices must use their uplink port to connect to the other device.

Just putchased a new BEFSR81 router.  Using the installation CD, I got it Setup and works very well.  Then, I went to the support of Linksys and found page a more recent version of the firmware.  My version is 2.51.4.  I downloaded the 2.51.4.6 version and installed. I made sure to choose the version for my model 3.1. He appeared to install OK, because I got the message that it was for the page in 5 seconds.  Now I can't go to the web-based configuration page.  I can ping 192.168.1.1 and get a normal response, but by entering that address in my browser just times out.  I turned off the router and even held the reset for 30 seconds, but don't can't go in the web-based configuration page.

  • internet connection drops BEFSR81

MY wired dsl-cable befsr81 router is giving up my connection whenever I try to download a file. I tried the latest firmware and also reset and restart my entire network without result. Whenever the router is running it down my internet, but when I use my cable modem my connection works fine.

[NOTE] I used to run a befsr41 and he had the same problem and then I went down the firmware to Version 1.45.7 and which corrects the problem, why is there not an option to downgrade to my Befsr81?

(Mod Note: edited post for the respect of the directive.) (Thank you!)

Well after test my network works for more than three days in a row, I found the problem.   First let me preface what I say.

#1: I know that this correction is exactly what was causing my problem and not something else that just happened to heal because I can reproduce this problem over and over again.

#2: I'm not a noob, you have to ask, "Is the router plugged into SIPPS plug" LOL I've run Windows95 and linux game servers at Lan tournaments and data centers remotely via SSH for more than 7 years.   I think you get the point.

#3: this is the dumbest bug or whatever you want to call it I've ever seen with any type of hardware/software in my ten years of using computers and operate networks.  AND IT LINKSYS'S FAULT.

    OK here's the fix

The blue cat5 cable with my BEFSR81 must be used to connect the modem cable to the router.   I repeat that the blue cat5 cable can be used.

I tried with any other cable I have at home and it is about 14 of them.

When the blue cable runs from the router to the modem cable, the connection is well and all three of my workstations are connected.

But when I use another in more blue ethernet cable that came with my linksys router router abandons connection.

What kind of company are selling their equipment with ethernet cables.

I thought dell was bad company.  Linksys has reached an all time LOW in my book.

[EDIT]  And ook, your solution is ridiculas what the problem is.

  • Apple Tv and E3000 and BEFSR81

OK, if you are looking for someone to help me with this problem I have. So I got a new wireless router the E3000 hooked up to my cable BEFSR81 router and I also have an apple TV connected to my local network. Now before I be the E3000 from each computer or would it be Mac or PC would connect to my apple TV I could get my libraries of all my computers on this subject. Now with the new E3000, it won't let me see the computer I connect wirelessly. so all the computers I connected wireless won't let me play my Apple TV and a computer which is cable works with it very well. So im trying to figure out how I can get all my computers using itunes to see the apple TV on my network. any help would be great and let me know if you need more information. Thank you

I think that computers connected to E3000 are in the different range of IP addresses.

The BEFSR is connected to port Internet E3000 router?

What is the IP address of the router BEFSR41 and E3000 router?

You must use E3000 as access point.

Follow this link to connect the router to another Linksys router. Follow the type of LAN to LAN connection.

  • BEFSR41 connectivity problem

I have an old router BEFSR41 V.2 that I pulled from the closet to use.  I can't have internet connectivity once I install it.  I ping the router at 192.168.1.1 but always no internet.  The router is dead?  Should I update the firmware?  I can't find links for this old router.

I don't think that Linksys still has the firmware for older models of devices like the BEFSR41. I suggest you to reset and reconfigure the router according to the type of connection to your ISP. If you use a cable connection type, remember to clone the MAC address of the router during the configuration process. If you are using DSL with PPPoE, enter your PPPoE username and password on the router configuration page.

  • With BEFSR41 VPN woes

Recently, my employers (who must remain anonymous for reasons of my future employment :-)) 'modernized' their VPN.) The previous version was based on remote access to Microsoft - I think that this one is as well - but it's been well inside brand. After the upgrade, I can no longer connect VPN through my BEFSR41. All I can read the chimps trained on IT support is

The following ports must be open on your ISP, router and firewall to create a VPN connection.

    L2TP: 1701 TPC Port
IPSEC: The port UDP 4500 (NAT - T)
    Port UDP 500 (isakmp) ~.
Protocol IP 50 (Encap Security Payload)
    Protocol IP 51 (Authentication Header)
The IP 47 GRE (Generic Routing Encapsulation) Protocol

Although the previous incarnations nothing would be changed I did conscientiously ensure that port forwarding has been enabled for these 3 appointed ports (and 1723 for pptp). No change. The 2.4 - complete default reset firmware update. No change. Put the laptop computer IP address in the DMZ. No change. Trace the connection via wireshark and it constantly does not receive the Change Cipher Spec and requests for recall that followed - but I don't see anything obviously wrong before that. Of course I can't be given the Protocol so I can't be sure that my reverse-engineering is correct. If I leave the linksys out of the loop and connect directly to the cable modem I get a link - and a family whining about no internet :-).

If anyone has any ideas on what Miss me, I would be very grateful.

You said: if I leave the linksys out of the loop and connect directly to the cable modem I get a link - and a family whining about no internet :-).

Do you mean that you have no problems to connect to your virtual private network when you connect your laptop directly to the modem? If SO, make sure you give the static IP address on your laptop that is not in the range your Port Forwarding router DHCP...

  • BEFSR41: having the devices getting my other router IP

I have a wired linksys BEFSR41 running firmware 1.46 (having problems get a newer version upgrade, but that's another story).

I have other devices to obtain the IP address of another router that acts as my DHCP (assignment of the IPs in the 192.168.15.X range).  The Linksys router is also get an IP address from the DHCP server, but the machines connected to the Linksys router are get the addresses in the range 192.168.1.x when I wish they were on the other (192.168.15.x).  I disabled DHCP on the Linksys and that does not seem to matter.

I am doing a config IP on a PC connected to the Linksys and see an IP address in the range of 192.168.1.x but when I check the customer on the Linksys DHCP table there is no listed clients.

No idea how I can get the PC on the Linksys to get IP addresses in my other router?  (looking for whatever the equivalent of "access point" is for a wired router)

    Hello

Because DHCP is disabled on the BEFSR41, how you connect it to your main router? You can try to plug the BEFSR41 to the main router via a LAN to LAN connection. This means, among the routes numbered on your primary router goes to one of the numbered on your BEFSR41 port. Making the unused port WAN or internet. If the IP addresses on computers connected to the BEFSR41 still receives 192.168.1.xxx, try to ipconfig/release then ipconfig / renew on these computers.

  • How to configure BEFSR81 for WiMax 4 G CLEAR network?

I am moving from cable broadband of CLEAR's WiMax 4 G network, using a BEFSR81 (HW version 3.1, firmware 2.51.4, build 004 30 December 2008) behind the modem Motorola WiMax CPE/150. CLAIRE seems to have its own portal NAT to 192.168.15.1 which is also used as DNS address. My PC (Linux, Kubuntu 8.04) sideways BEFSR81 LAN, I can't do any DNS lookups. If I give the command shell

    "nslookup www.clear.com.

It displays "no found DNS server." If I specify as the DNS server address 192.168.15.1, i.e.,.

    "nslookup www.clear.com 192.168.15.1.

the works of nslookup. If I bypass the BEFSR81, everything works.

It seems as if the BEFSR81 works in a DMZ instead of talking directly to the Internet. Is it possible to configure for this situation?

I connected the modem again via the router and - surprise - all doesn't work, no DNS problems. All I can think is that there is an update of the firmware, when I turned on the modem. He seemed to take longer than usual to be ready, and when I got to the top of the Web page of modem, I had to repeat the sequence of the first time Setup. So I hope that it stays that way.

  • BEFSR41 v. 1 - do not get IP WAN, updated firmware to update

I can get into the setup on the web.

    I can ping.

ipconfig indicates that the LAN IP address is correct (192.168.1.1).

All lights are light up properly.

My internet connection works correctly (i.e. without the router).

I've upgraded to the latest firmware (for this version of the router which is v.1, yes it's old).

"But... under the tab"Status"in the setup, when I type"Release DHCP", then on DHCP renew," the WAN IP address is 0.0.0.0.  How can I force this thing to look for an IP address?

Just can not know what does not work!

    Any ideas?  Thank you!!!

    (Mod Note: edited title)

Assuming that you have a good ethernet cable between your BEFSR41 and router upstream (ADSL "modem" or "cable modem"), I guess the router upstream ISP (ADSL "modem" or "cable modem") is looking for a particular MAC address and is to remember your computer (since you've tried things wihtout the BEFSR41).  You have two choices.

    (1) turn off the router upstream (ADSL "modem" or "cable modem"), turn off the BEFSR41, wait a full minute, switch on the router upstream (ADSL "modem" or "cable modem"), let it resync to the line (takes a minute or two), then turn on the BEFSR41, see if it receives an IP address.

    If no, then try

    (2) to clone the MAC address of your computer on the WAN interface, repeat step 1.

The router power light blinks, it seems that the router is brick. Try this link to unbrick the router and check if that helps.

The Firmware that you downloaded is good firmware for your router... Maybe something was wrong during the download of the Firmware... Re-download the Firmware... Click here and select v4.3 and download the firmware on your desktop... Also download the tftp.exe software... Once you have downloaded the two files, double-click tftp.exe and he gave 'server address ' 192.168.1.1, password "admin" and traveled to the location of pointed .bin firmware file and click upgrade... It should work... Reset the router for 30 seconds and unplug for 30 seconds again... Now re - configure your router...

  • BEFSR81 v3 after upgrade without browser admin access

After upgrading my BEFSR81 v3 to the latest firmware (2.51.4, build 001 June 13, 2008) I often have problems of access to the Web interface.

Immediately after a reboot, I can access and manage the router with Firefox or IE without problem.  But then if I do a configuration change the next day all I get is a blank screen after the login prompt.  The only way to solve the problem is to reboot the router.

He always asks an id of username/password correctly, and if I get the wrong information I'm getting an authorization failed.  But put the correct password just give the empty window.

I'm tired of running down in the basement of restart the router every time I need to make a change.  Any idea what's going on?

My router works better, so I'll give my solution here for others.

During a chat session on 10 April with the support of Linksys, I explained my problem and was told that I can download an older firmware to the following address, then use TFTP to perform the downgrade.  I checked this address still today while writing this message, and I can't get there more:

    Linksys FTP server

On 10 April, which worked and I managed to download the 2.50.2 firmware which is old enough, but it's the only version I could find on the site recommended.

The good news is that worked and my router is functional without obvious problems for about two weeks.

Today I decided to try upgrading the firmware again.  I am disappointed that Linksys has not addressed this problem somehow because others apparently have similar problems with the "current" firmware version  In fact, there is a certain
confusion on the Linksys BEFSR81 v3.0 support page.

As of today (April 26, 2009), the download of the firmware for the BEFSR81 page lists the following:

    2008-06-13
    Ver.2.51.1

(I'm not that these date and numbers because they do match).

The file of the firmware provided in the link is actually: 2.51.4.4_20081230_code.bin

Notes the following version history list:

    Firmware Date: June 13,2008
    Current firmware: Version 2.51.1
    Product PartNo: BEFSR81 v3.x

    2.51.4.4 December 30, 2008
    2.51.4.1 Jun 13,2008
    2.51.3 March 2, 2007
    2.51.1 May 5, 2006
    2.50.4 Nov 15, 2004
    2.50.2 May 19, 2004
    Oct 15, 2003 first version 2.45.5

So, from my own experience and that of others in these forums, version 2.51.4.4 does not work on the BEFSR81 v3.0.

There are still 2.51.4.1 on the old Linksys support site:

    Linksys support (old)

It's the version I have installed now, and so far it seems to work.

I really wish I could find the version 2.51.3 somewhere that it was the most reliable for me.  Unfortunately, I can't find that anywhere.
