• Replace BEFW11S4, WRT54G

  Where can I find instructions for replacing an existing one with a new WRT54G LinkSys Router?  EasyLink is not cooperating.

  I need to replace my old BEFW11S4 with my new WRT54G, but EasyLink does not detect S 11, 4 - he advises just insert me the 54G between my PC and the cable Modem.  I first tried to replace S 11, 4 by the 54G, but EasyLink then reports an interruption of the Internet [duh].  I then tried to insert the 54G on each side of the of the 11S 4 [assuming that I could possibly figure out how to tear the S 11, 4], but EasyLink does not detect the 54G on each side of the S 11, 4.

• BEFW11S4 v.4 and Vista - firmware upgrade failure

  Hello

  I've had this router for about 5 years, it runs with XP without any problem. Since I got a new laptop with Vista, the wireless connects for an hour or two, and then falls back and I have to unplug the router for five seconds, then reconnect to reconnect (my other laptop with XP has not this problem).

  I understand that there is compatibility between the BEFW11S4 v. 4 and Vista problems so I tried to update the firmware of dartybox.com and kept getting a message that failed. I hard rebooted the router but button of restart 30 seconds and the upgrade has always failed. I so re-set to factory settings through the online admin to the router, re-uploaded the implementation level and still got the emssage failed (I am sure that the model number & version is correct and I download the appropriate firmware upgrade).

  Is there anything else I can do another one) buy a new router; (b) living with school drop-outs; (c) remove Vista and go back to XP?

  Genius! I have changed the name of code.bin, went to the admin > tab upgrade firmware and the upgrade file. I had a wireless without interruption ever since, even after the awakening of the laptop to sleep.

• BEFW11S4 configured as network gateway

  I have a local network my ISP between several PCs connected to it and a printer's existing compatible network using CAT 5 connection to the router. I would like to printer connection to the wireless LAN and want to use my BEFW11S4 as the 'bridge' to the LAN, can I configure this device as a "network bridge" and if yes how can I do that?

  No it's not possible to do this work of router as a network bridge by using the Linksys firmware on it. Maybe you can try the firmware of 3rd party like DD - WRT, who have the opportunity to make the router as a network gateway.  But make sure that during the download of the DD - WRT one firmware on your router, you follow the proper procedure, otherwise it will damage your router.

• Using WPA2 with BEFW11S4 v.2

  I use a router BEFW11S4 v.2 with a WEP password, I read recently that by using a WEP slows down the maximum transfer rate and that I should use a WPA2. I looked everywhere in my set up and do not see how to change this.  I've seen in a post, go to the wireless tab and use the security subtab, I have it all under the wireless tab's SubTabs.

  Your router supports only WEP. You can see the WEP option in the Configuration tab.

• problems connecting a BEFW11S4 to a netopia dsl modem

  Hello

  I'm trying to connect my router BEFW11S4 to a netopia dsl modem via an ethernet cable.  The router doesn't seem to be able to get an IP from the modem.  The modem log shows not even attempting the router of ideas for what to try?

  I want just to extend the wireless network I already have of the netopia, if via bridging or routing, I don't care.

• Problem after upgrading my version of firmware Linksys router BEFW11S4 t0 1.44.2z

  I have a using a Linksys BEFW11S4 router and have recently updated the firmware
  the version 1.44.2z but have experience the following problem.

  -When I want to make changes to the installation, the password and the DHCP tab, the
  router ask me the password. Pls refer
  to peak 1 for screenshot.
  -By entering the password "admin", the router keep prompting me to
  Re-enter the password. So I was unable to
  all of the changes.

• BEFW11S4 v4: cannot download from LinkSys Web site tftp.exe

  Hi all!

  I am a new user on this forum.  I've seen a lot of useful information here, so I KNOW that someone has the answer to my problem.

  The power light on my trusty BEFW11S4 v4 flashes and nothing I tried to solve the problem has worked.  I downloaded the latest firmware (1.52.03) but I can't go to the router configuration page.  So says the site Web of LinkSys, you can go in the back door by using their routine tftp.exe.  It is, whenever I try to download I get an error message "Unable to connect" Windows.

  Anyone know where I can download the correct tftp.exe file for my unit so I can try to update the firmware?

• What's compatible with FIOS router BEFW11S4?

  My daughter has a Verizon FIOS as his ISP.  The BEFW11S4 can be used in such an environment?  Are there special settings I should change when it is used in this environment?

  I think it can work because that BEFW11S4 supports the PPPoE connection.

  I think that even with Fios, you can use your old router with the system, they just give you a free when you sign up.

  Can someone point me to a (working) link for the latest firmware for a BEFW11S4 v2, which I believe is the 1.45.10 version?

• Loss of bandwidth through router BEFW11S4

  Got the BEFW11S4 wireless 4 ports with the latest firmware.

  Connect my PC directly to the Comcast modem I get 16 Mbps download speed.

  Addition of my router (MODEM-> ROUTER-> PC) he falls up to 9 MB/s - so lose a helluva lot of bandwidth.

  And more obviously buy a newer router, is there something I can change to get through the 16 Mbps?

  The BEFW11S4v3 seems to have a 10 Mbit/s internet port. He goes faster then what you see.

  I recently bought a new linksys router. My wife wants old V.4 BEFW11S4 for his office. I have not saved all the installation disc for the BEFW11S4, but what I read here that they might not be necessary. Can someone please clarify if I need installation software or not?   Hi good morning and people, if it's the morning where you are. I have a BEFW11S4, as stated in the subject line. I want to update the firmware but do not know the version of the router. I guess it's version 1, because it did not indicate anywhere on the body of router. What do you say? It seems to me he would be there was something that came out after version 1. Makes me think it is version 1. I hope that a well-functioning electronic mail preferences so that when someone answers that I get a notification. Thanks to all those who can help you. • Router Befw11s4 - WARNING long post

  I bought a router of v.4 befw11s4 a couple of years back.  I remember spending hours with tech support to make it work, and even after that I got it working it never worked very well.  The router would reset continually itself, which would require me to reset the dsl modem then all settings completely enter the router linksys only that it be reset again, maybe in a few minutes, sometimes it would last maybe an hour, never much longer than that.

  So I disconnected, have not really thought much about it since then.

  Now, actually, I have a desire to try to make it work, but I met a ton of fixes, so I'll try to go through each of them and explain what happens to the best of my ability, perhaps there, can someone help me get this piece of work.

  I tried to access the access point, or the parameters as it can be through the web browser.  When I plugged the router, I was able to get a solid led lights on the front panel.  Power supply light solid, lightweight solid ethernet.

  I tries to enter the settings of the web browser by entering the address http://192.168.1.1 and tried http://192.168.1.245 with zero success.

  I have since reset the router several times using any method that I could find online.  Turning off the power, using the reset button, wait 5 minutes through each step of the process, praying to the gods of networking that this router would finally click and would just work... sigh.

  I reset my dsl modem.

  Nothing seems to help.  Now I can't have full lights on the front panel when I connect the ethernet cable.  It flashes briefly, goes dark and so far no amount of buttons to reset, power, prayer, nothing seems to work at all.

  All hope?

  Solved.  Bought the Belkin router and had it up and running in about 15 minutes.  I spent way more time this just trying to get something to work on the Linksys.
