Best game for the 2d game engine

Hello

I usually develop a native app standard cascading but I would like to start the game dev. I would like to know your thoughts on the issue of the choice of the game engine.

The requirement:

  • It must works on BB10
  • It must be easily carried on the platform more than possible. Better less platforms with port immediate that many platforms with port complex.
  • Performance and simplicity of the code, no requirements on the language
  • Free if possible, cheap, if a license and a period of time if not
  • 2D oriented with a physics engine well

The choice that I found

  • V - Play: seemed to be perfect (qml), they announced bb10 support in 2013 and then eliminated any mention of it on their site. That's happened?
  • Marmalade: looks good, but expensive and office support
  • HaXe: looks great, but if it works in bb10 although html5? Not sure
  • Unit: more oriented than 2d 3d
  • Cocos2d-x: isn't it great?
  • Gameplay, Shiva3d: 3d oriented

Thank you!

Some personal reflections.

HAXE

If you are looking in Haxe, see OpenFL (the successor of Haxe NME)
http://www.openfl.org/documentation/

It will give you native compiled applications. HTML5 is ideal for games, but he is still fighting in a number of areas, including the audio playback (improved by Web API Audio when available) and the fact that it requires an entire Document will be built in order to make a canvas adds a lot of overhead. 60 fps is not impossible, but much more difficult.

I think that it is always being current production, but I did not follow his progress for some time.

Unit

My recommendation for most game developers. There has been many improvements 2D and 2D-unit development training will go a long way when / if you decide to explore 3D. Performance and cross-platform support are two key features of sales. With the upcoming improvements to the GUI system, this has essentially all of the parts for 2D games while allowing the 2.5 D and 3D as you please.

Under very active development and improvement yet.

It may seem intimidating at first, but ig you put in the time, it is well worth the benefit.

Shiva3D

I've seen developers that use a handful of times in my time here. They succeeded in creating attractive tied with unity applications, although I don't know everything that the tool myself so uncertain by development time. At the same time, I don't see anything that could not have been achieved with other tools as well.

Marmalade

I'm not familiar with this tool, but do not know that it is pretty widely used by the community for the development of applications. Certainly worth evaluating.

There are a handful of samples on Github as well:

Unity (UnityGamepad, UnitInvoke): https://github.com/blackberry/Core-Native-Community-Samples

WebGL: https://github.com/blackberry/WebGL-Samples

Cocos2d-HTML5 (BoxQuest): https://github.com/blackberry/BB10-WebWorks-Community-Samples

Cocos2d-X (SpaceGame): https://github.com/blackberry/Core-Native-Community-Samples

Note that Cocos2d-HTML5 is now known as Cocos2d-JS.

I think there are others but this is what I could find.

As my general recommendation, I would go with the unit. There are a lot of good choices out there, but the unit has issued over and over again for developers.

  • Best Meanless for the 7 "digital picture frame

    Hello

    I had one

    * Digital Photo Frame II, 7 "O, 720 x 480, touch sensor, MP3 Player-Funktion PA3637K-1ETC *.

Manual talk about the best resolution for the photos to.

you will find on the Web: 800 x 480 pixel WVGA screen (720 x 480 pixels ZAL Bereich)

    726 x 480 pixel samples.

    Now my problem:

When you put pictures on it - * it cropps a bit on the right and left side and more on the top and the bottom.*

I tried many sizes. Even in 720 x 480 it cropps.

So my question is: what is the best resolution for the photos?

    Best regards

    Markus

I think that the Digital Photo Frame supports the 3:2 format.

It's a format that is supported for analog cameras.

I think that your photos are created in 3:4.

So if you want to get a maximum photo resolution then you create pictures in the 3:2 format.

For most all CAMS dig support such format and you can choose somewhere in the menu of the digital camera.

  • Best settings for the analysis of revenues

I just bought a HP Officejet 6600 A-I-O. I was looking for a device scan my boxes of documents, so I can unclutter my home office. I would also like to analyze the revenue. I considered the famous 'neat Scanner", but I hesitated to the price tag of $400.

My question: what are the best settings for the HP scanning application when I'm scanning received? What is the difference between PDF and PDF searchable? IsTIFF a better choice than PDF? Use "Generalist" or something else? Recipes do not need large files high resolution, of course.

Can someone point me to a guide that explains the different parameters available with the HP Scan application, please. Thank you!

    Hi Caesar3,

In a regular PDF document, the text looks more like a picture of the text.  We can see it, but the file does not contain the words.

In an indexed PDF, text is stored as text, so it can be searched.

    http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-to-create-a-searchable-PDF-file

When you scan receipts, 200 or 300 dpi should be fine.  If you plan to print the stored version receive 300 dpi would work well.

I recommend PDF more TIFF.  TIFF files can store pages or multiple images in a single file, but access to additional pages is a bit awkward.  Generally, the file size is much smaller with PDF or TIFF.

The site http://www.scantips.com/ is a good resource.  This is a Web site not HP, but it does not scan HP.

  • DPS: Judge to use the parameter Raster or vector in the States of the objects when the majority of the page is a photo. What is the best setting for the overall performance?

I am trying to decide whether to use the parameter Raster or vector in the States of the object when the majority of the screen is a picture (with a modest but important legend for children to read). The legend certainly makes it look more net as vector. But does the photo! The raster setting seems to make the lower-res images in comparison. In my first edition of my application, I thought that raster would be the best setting when the photo was the subject dominating the page. But now, after seeing how strong he looks like vector, (but with almost a refresh of the unacceptable time. Perhaps better on the latest iPad. Most of my readers/students in class will use iPad 2 s, which has a slower processor). I wonder if I should go through the trouble of changing States of photo objects that have the type as well to the vector. It doesn't seem to be as sensitive to a re - draw on the iPad 2 (non-retine)

Is Filesize hit if I make about 1200 on these objects range from Raster to vector? (It is a huge, highly interactive history book, so I'm curious if acutally go to vector on these photos would reduce the size of the file) What is the best setting for the overall performance?

I see the freeks screen outside for a bit if you try to pinch and zoom in a vector object (photo) vs raster. Which is disappointing. Does slow down load time/refreshment in frame, which is a little less. I also found that the drop shadows really bad that redraws effect in vector, almost vibrating in a slide show, for example. Thus, in cases where I need shadows, I'm sticking with Raster.

    All tips go ahead?

  • vSpere 5 Networking of best practices for the use of 4 to 1 GB NIC?

    Hello

I'm looking for a networking of best practices for the use of 4-1 GB NIC with vSphere 5. I know there are a lot of good practice using 10 GB, but our current config does support only 1 GB. I need to include the management, vMotion, Virtual Machine (VM) and iSCSi. If there are others you would recommend, please let me know.

I found a diagram that resembles what I need, but it's for 10 GB. I think it works...

vSphere 5 - 10GbE SegmentedNetworks Ent Design v0_4.jpg(I had this pattern HERE - rights go to Paul Kelly)

My next question is how much of a traffic load is each object take through the network, percentage wise?

For example, 'Management' is very small and the only time where it is in use is during the installation of the agent. Then it uses 70%.

I need the percentage of bandwidth, if possible.

If anyone out there can help me, that would be so awesome.

    Thank you!

    -Erich

Without knowing your environment, it would be impossible to give you an idea of the uses of bandwidth.

That said if you had about 10-15 virtual machines per host with this configuration, you should be fine.

  • Best practices for the compression of the image in dps

Hello! I read up on best practices for the compression of the image in dps and I read the asset from the source of panoramas, sequences of images, Pan and zoom images and audio skins is resampled not downloading. You will need to resize them and compress them before deleting the in your article, because the dps do not do it for you. Hey can do!

So Im also read as he active source of slideshows, scrolling images, and buttons ARE resampled as PNG images. Does this mean that DPS will compress for you when you build the article? Does this say I shouldn't worth going bother to resize these images at all? I can just pop in 300 DPI files 15 MB used in the print magazine and dps will compress their construction article - and this will have no effect on the size of the file?

And this is also the case with static background images?

    Thanks for your help!

All images are automatically resampled to based on the size of the folio you do. You can put in any image resolution you want, it's not serious.

  • What are the best options for the composition of math in InDesign CS4?

What are the best options for the composition of math in InDesign CS4?

I tried a few versions of the composition of mathematics test. All have their advantages and disadvantages, but I can't decide on which the plugin/script will be the best in the long run (in taking account of the ePub and MathML).

So far the two best seems to be InMath (if it becomes compatible CS4) or Math + Magic Pro.

The biggest pro of InMath is editable on the screen, but it seems to have some risk: http://InDesignSecrets.com/InMath-update-with-new-reader-functionality.php

Math + Magic Pro works well with CS4, but need of equations to modify in the window of their plugin, and because they are EPS format. The file size and the ability to work with a digital player disappeared.

    And MathType seems pretty useless...

Someone at - it had positive experiences?

Not exactly the kerning, but you can move blocks wherever you want with the arrow keys. And you can change the spacing between the elements by changing the spacer between them. There are also defects of spacing.

Batch edit can be something again. I use 6.0, and I see that the most recent version is 6.5.

I had problems with files EPS of Mathtype, which may include a preview, but do not include fonts. So, I opened each equation of the word with my default settings (they automatically change the default fonts, spacing, size, etc.), copy, paste in Illustrator and save as have. So when I'm finished, my equations are always vector (if that's what you mean by text).

Microsoft has chosen to implement a version of Mathtype dumbed-down as the editor of Word equations for many years. So for me at least, long term has already been decided. There are several things wrong with Mathtype, but given the choice between the use of Mathtype to * convert * equations and using InMath or mathemagiques to * recreate * equations, I'll take Mathtype, warts and all.

  • Best practices for the use of reserved words

    Hello
What is the best practice for the use of the reserved words as column names.
For example if I insisted on the use of the word to a column name comment as follows:

    CREATE TABLE...
    VARCHAR2 (4000) "COMMENT."
    ...

What is the impact on the track I could expect and what problems should I be informed when doing something like that?

    Thank you
    Ben

The best practice is NOT to use reserved words anywhere.
Developers are human beings human. Humans have their moments to forget things.
They will not forget to use the "", or you can force it to use the "' everywhere.
The two methods are Oracle certified ways to end up in hell.

  • Measurement on the side time server? Best practices for the turn-based game

    Hello

What would be the best practice for measuring time in a turn based game?

I was looking at the timeout of the room, but to use that it would mean that, for each round, I put users in a new room?

Is there a way where I can measure time serverside and keep users in the same room?

If so, I could use php, otherwise, we would need java that allows to measure a time race.

    See you soon,.

    G

    Hello

You can definitely use PHP or Java - we provide integration of server

libraries for either. I don't know exactly what is the use case, so I can't

comment on what makes the most sense, but if it is not information which must be

totally secure, grading on the client can be a viable approach also.

  • ApplicationStorageDirectory - best practices for the issue of games

So, I worked on a game that uses air. My problem is that I've been storing my game resources in the application directory. That would be fine except that the game has a built-in editor that requires the ability to write files. Adobe has locked since ApplicationDirectory for write access, so now I don't know where I'm supposed to store all my game files editable user - which is potentially active ALL game.

The seemingly obvious choice is to use ApplicationStorageDirectory. While this is not ideal, because it seems that I would need to duplicate all the assets from the inside of the application in the repository at the start, it would provide a standard and easy to find a place to store modifiable game resources.

However, this article (on this site) clearly tells me that I shouldn't do that. It is a good point. Backup of all game assets is messy proposal. And while I can see users who take advantage of capabilities editting as enjoying the backup, for the average player, that would be a pretty big trouble.

What am I, so I expected to do in this scenario? I need an accessible place in writing, where the user and the application can easily access all game resources (XML, Image, MP3). I don't want to choose an arbitrary location, and I'm disabled by the application needing home redundantly data just to be copied into the destination directory since there is no way for me to delete it once it is copied since I can't write in the application.

    Thanks for the thoughts.

    Hello

A couple of things come to mind. Is actually not Adobe that locks the application under Windows directory, it's one thing to MS permissions with folders under Program Files.  But whatever it is, it's always a problem.

As you said, you can copy files to first launch but depending on the size, this could be annoying after a user just sitting through the installation.  It is also not very friendly when you want to uninstall.  You might want to consider sub launches the installation program with the AIR of a separate setup program that also takes care of installation of game resources to another accessible location in writing.  Maybe it's customizable by the user, but at least she is monitored by the installer that should allow you to uninstall properly.

Is it not possible to conserve resources with your application, but the editor of the architect such as only content created by the user would be in a writable directory of the user (for example a subdirectory out of their documents folder?)

  • Is the best tool for the creation of a review with Notes/comments-Dreamweaver user site? CMS?

    Hi all

I am really keen to develop a site of online game and have a few questions of CMS/Wordpress/Dreamweaver, I hope that you all can help me with, I thank you in advance for your patience as I am new on the development of the site.

I think creating a review site which will involve write me about 100 customers of online game and then getting users to download their comments/suggestions, etc. Each of the reviews would be updated monthly with his stats, performance and other details. Each review contains a review of the text, the review video and various images and screenshots. Integrate user generated content will be an important factor.

I'm trying to confuse me with all the prep work round to ensure that I have the right tools and technology, that I need to succeed. A lot of people told me I should use Wordpress because of the nature of my site, or at least a combination of Wordpress and Dreamweaver - don't know how it works exactly. I don't want to be too dependent on Wordpress just because I want to be sure my site can be customized and cultivate and select advanted more value for visitors to my site. .. .i would like to have a members area only at some point in the near future.

Please see below for questions running in my head:

    1. do I need a separate CMS tool?... ... who may be best to consider the nature of my site?

    2. should I use Wordpress instead?... .or a combination of Wordpress and Dreamweaver? -Why should I use a combination of the two?

3 SEO is a factor important - does make a difference?

    4. my comments will need to be updated every month, so I will try to maximize the use of models, etc. I need to create a dynamic site in Dreamweaver or a CMS that will manage?

    5. what options are best to avoid as much as hand-coding

Thank for taking you the time to read this,... .any advice/guideance would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Harps

Still a bit on the comment by John, WordPress sites actually pretty well on make Google providing your site contains a keyword rich, relevant and fresh content.  WP itself will be neither help nor hinder your ranking.  It's up to you to create good content, forcing the humans will be interested.

As for the future, I think that you are on solid ground.  WP has been around for a long time and continues to dominate the market of CMS open source.  There are 58 million sites on WordPress.com alone.  This includes not everybody who self-host WP on their own areas.  Give it whirl and see where it will lead.
