Best practices 4U2 for Dell OM VIB for ESXi 4.1 upgrade?

I am about to begin the upgrade of my guests of U2 4 ESXi 4.1 and am running over old Dell OpenManage VIBs (currently v6.3) on 4U2.  However, I was wondering if there is a proper procedure for the upgrade to 4.1 and update of Dell OM VIBs.  I have not tried yet, so I n; t sure if there was a 'good' way to do to avoid problems.  The Dell site does not mention the upgrade when you install last VIB - explains just how to install.

  • Uninstall the old Dell OM VIBs before the upgrade to ESXi 4.1 and then install the most recent VIB 6.4?
  • Upgrade to 4.1 and then uninstall the old VIB, install the new version of VIB
  • Uninstall the old Dell OM VIBs before the upgrade to ESXi 4.1 and then install the most recent VIB 6.4?
  • Upgrade to 4.1 and then install the new VIB on the current

I followed the instructions here (pretty basic) when installing the VIBs first, but I have never done an upgrade of the VIBs.  I guess my main issue is whether it is safer to uninstall and reinstall then install new or just on the top when dealing with VIBs themselves?

Just looking to see if anyone has experience with this and maybe avoid some headaches, if things go pear shaped

Hello.

My experience has been uninstalling and reinstalling works better.  I would remove the VIB before the upgrade.

Good luck!

  • Best Practice Guide for stacked N3024 switches

Is there a guide to BP for the configuration of the 2 N3024s stacked for the connections to the server, or is the same eql iscsi configuration guide.

    I'm trying to:

    1) reduce to a single point of failure for rack.

    (2) make good use of LACP for 2 and 4 nic server connections

    (3) use a 5224 with it's 1 lacp-> n3024s for devices of unique connection point (ie: internet router)

    TIA

    Jim...

Barrett pointed out many of the common practices suggested for stacking. The best practice is to use a loop for stacking and distributing your LAG on multiple switches in the stack, are not specific to any brand or model of the switch. The steps described in the guides of the user or the white papers generally what is the recommended configuration.
    http://Dell.to/20sLnnc

Many of the best practices scenarios will change of network-to-network based around what is currently plugged into the switch, and the independent networks needs / requirements of business. This has created a scenario where the default settings on a switch are pre-programmed for what is optimal for a fresh switch. Then recommended are described in detail in white papers for specific and not centralized scenarios in a single document of best practices that attempts to cover all scenarios.

    Express.ypH N-series switches are:
    -RSTP is enabled by default.
-Green eee-mode is disabled by default.
    -Frother is enabled by default.
-Storm control is disabled by default.

Then these things can change based on the towed gear and needs/desires of the whole of society.

For example, Equallogic has several guides that recommendations of configuration detail to different switches.
    http://Dell.to/1ICQhFX

Then on the side server, you would like to look more like the OS/server role. For example a whitepaper VMware that has some network settings proposed when running VMware in an iSCSI environment.
    http://bit.LY/2ach2I7

I suggest making a list of the technology/hardware/software, which is used on the network. Then use this list to acquire white papers for specific areas. Then use these white papers best practices in order to ensure the switch configuration is optimal for the task required by the network.

  • I'm looking for 'best practices' tips for a configuration of a project (first CS5.5, Windows 7 Pro)

I was instructed to update an old corporate video with narration, sounds, graphics and new music.

Video camera ONLY material that I've had a DVD corporate (NTSC) - the original source material is simply not available. .

I can rip the DVD in MPEG 2 and import it into first without problem, but I would like to be able to use resolutions higher the updated graphics.

I intend to export it to Youtube (HD) but can export to DVD or BluRay as well.

My question really reduced management of sequences.   I tell myself that my sequence settings must be the highest resolution, I expect to work with (Youtube HD or Bluray) which allows you to easily export to lower quality, but I don't really know if it's as simple as that.  Is there a standard method in the industry?  Am I close?

First may actually use the DVD .vob files, just copy DVDs to hard disk, and then import in first.

What is the DVD existing video in a 4:3 or 16:9 format? If 4:3, think about how you will work in a program of 16:9. Rather than having the black terminal on the side bars, many publishers will some sort of background to fill this space. A popular solution is to reproduce a bass track, stretch 4:3 video to fill the screen and add Gaussian blur effects. Because the colors/content of the sidebars will correspond to the main video, it's a little disguises the fact that the video is 4:3.

If you put SD images in a HD program, it will look 'soft' compared to the HD images. As a compromise, you can consider the new edition as 720 p instead of 1080 p program, so that the SD resolution is not to be tense. All the computer video/video YouTube is not interlaced, meaning to sequences and exports should be done as Progressive.

Flow problem of potential work - if you take the images existing SD from the DVD and it high end in a HD sequence, then export to DVD (SD resolution), the video turned into mush. She was raised, and then again once, dowscaled really kill the quality. May be required to copy the HD sequence in a sequence of SD, difficulty of the problems of size / scale of graphics and titles and DVD for the export of the sequence of SD to avoid the top of range/reduce images SD. Note that the DVD-video is highly compressed, so you already work with a weak source material, recompress again will be a hit in quality in all cases, but certainly avoid the top of range/cut again.

I don't have Adobe apps in front of me at the moment, but I think that Blu - ray 720 p export options are limited, perhaps 720 p at 59.94 only, not sure. Which may affect your decision to 1080 p and 720 p.

    Hope these tips help you

  • Best Practice network for 6 uplinks

Can someone help me and tell me recommended for segregation with 6 uplinks. Ideally, I would like to have 2 management, 2 VMotion, 2 for Production and 2 for iSCSI (software). However I have only 6 natachasery. Recommend that people would be here when you use HA and DRS clusters?

I would also use the iSCSI team balancing, but do not know how to set up. The SAN has two NETWORK adapters and is trucked by using 802.1ad. How to configure the load balancing across the vSwitch iSCSI to take advantage of the trunk to the SAN?

Any help or pointers to good white papers or documentation would be really appreciated.

    Thank you

    Tony

    Hello

    I would use:

Load Balancing: route based on the Port ID of source

Network failover detection: State of the link only

    Notify the switches: Yes

    BACKSPACE: Yes

Of course, it's just my opinion that's all that's right for you. You can use the probe if you want a constant pulse of your links.

  • ESXi for ESXi Enterprise - no upgrade for you?

I have several hosts running the free version of ESXi 4.0 (recently bought of the enterprise license).  I am now facing update guests properly.  I've heard some people say that you can not simply update ESXi 4.0 to 4.1 Enterprise ESXi hosts.  Which means that I cannot apply the .zip file "Enterprise ESXi 4.1 Update 1 (ZIP of ESXi 4.0 update)" no - Enterprise of ESXi.  In doing so, you would not get the extra features you paid for.  Leaving you stuck with the features of the free version.

If someone could shed some light on whether this would happen, I would be happy.

I'm not sure I quite understand the question... Functions are controlled by license keys.  So, if you have new keys of the company, you just need to add on the tab Configuration - features licensed - change.

As a corporate customer, you will have access to download all upgrade kits

  • Best practices for the installation of 10 GbE

    I have a new HP DL380G7 who has 4 cards on 1 G and 2 10 network interface cards.

This will run VSphere 4.1 esxi

I'm looking for some advice on what would be a good network for this server configuration.

The storage will be NFS goes to a NAS Server

I tried to create 2 vswitch one with one of the NICs embedded for the service console and the other switch was a team of the 10G env.

Support Vmware told me that in this configuration, I had to make sure that the service console was on a different subnet from the kernel NFS or NFS traffic will try to go on the service console port.

I tried this config but as soon as I add a Vkernel to the 2nd switch I am not out ping.

So I thought I'd post here with what would be a best practice configuration for this server.

In the first configuration, it is difficult to say which interface will be used for NFS traffic.  Therefore, it is not a recommended configuration.

The second configuration must be correct.

  • Best practices for virtualized file servers?

    Hello

I wonder if anyone has a best practice ideas for a virtualized file server.

I need to virtualize file server Windows 2003 with data from the 400GO file. Virtual machines are stored on an ISCSI SAN (MSA2012i). There is plenty of space on the VMFS

I'm trying to decide if it will be better to put the data from file server (IE file shares) on the VMFS as a virtual drive or the data to another volume of SAN and present it to the file via ISCSI initiator server.

I know that I can do both - I'm looking for some advice.

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

  • 10 GB NIC redundancy-Best Practice

    Hi all

I have now deployed successfully to the 5 different poles of vSphere using 4 x 1 GB network adapters on all servers to ESX/ESXi hosts. I used 2 active/passive NIC in vSwitch0 vMotion and network management traffic (or Service Console for ESX) and used 2 active/active NIC in vSwitch1 for VM traffic as shown below. The uplinks are using 802. 1 q trunks in redundant Cisco switches.

We are now moving to 10 GB networks. I have the opportunity to use this same design of map NETWORK 4 (using the HP Flex 10 vNIC or cards Cisco Palo) or go with a simpler model of map NETWORK 2. What is the recommended best practice to separate VMkernel Port and port VM group traffic among the physical network interface cards? Any suggestions or links to published documents would be greatly appreciated of VMware.

    Thank you!

    ScreenHunter_01 Mar. 04 14.32.jpg

Take a look at my post here.  https://www.myciscocommunity.com/message/63033#63033

Can help you with your design questions.  There is also a generic 'best practice' guide for 10G networks & VMware environments.

As Cisco I obviously partial to the Palo adapter.  Unlike the Flex-10 option you set up not a bandwidth 'max' virtual NETWORK card, rather, you set a guarantee min. for each virtual host NIC given that you can create multiple network cards virtual with Palo, you can create one for VMotion, VM data, IP storage, etc. and define your QoS guarantees quickly & easily while offering redundancy with the recovery of host-transparent fabric.

Let us know if you have specific questions about a deployment.

where can I find the doc more up-to-date about berries EQL configuration / best practices with vmware vsphere 5.1

    Hello

Here is a link to a PDF file that covers best practices for ESXi and EQL.

    Best EqualLogic practices ESX

    en.Community.Dell.com/.../20434601.aspx

This doc mentions specifically that the storage Heartbeat VMKernel port is no longer necessary with ESXi v5.1.  VMware has corrected the problem that made it necessary.

If you add it to a 5.1 system it will not hurt.  It will take an IP address for each node.

If you upgrade 5.0 to 5.1, you can delete it later.

Here is a link to VMware which addresses this issue and has links to other Dell documents which confirm also that it is fixed in 5.1.

  • Best practices for the firmware update 40 + switches

    Hello.

I need for firmware (and boot code) updated over 40 switches PowerConnect (mainly 5324).

What is the best practice on that?

I tried to download and install Dell OpenManage Network Manager, but it seems like an application of 'disorder' for someone who doesn't know. I threw a look at the demo of Dell for the application, but the quality is very bad and it is a version different than the one I downloaded (V3.0.1.15) you cannot use the guides directly.

Are there other options that manual session opening, then TFTP the new firmware and boot code? Or can someone a link to a valid demo or documentation that can help me with the work?

    Thanks in advance.
