BGP multihomed with HSRP

Hello

Is it possible with elegance the convergent eBGP neighbor stopped to the other CE router connection with zero drop package or power failure?

We have 2 CES linked together using iBGP and eBGP that both connect to the different EPP but on the same you.

CE1-> PPE1 - AS12345

iBGP and HSRP between these

CE2-> PPE2 - AS12345

I tried using the command ' neighbor 10.10.10.10 stop ' but I have a blackout for a few seconds.

Thank you

Hello

Latest IOSes are supported a feature called BGP soft stop that is described here:

http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/TD/docs/iOS-XML/iOS/iproute_bgp/configuration/XE-3s/IRG-XE-3s-book/configuring_bgp_graceful_shutdown.html

You might be interested in checking if this device can be used on your devices.

In general, however, a phasing out of a neighbour in BGP usually is possible in making sure these routers stop to consider the routes learned from each other as usable routes before going down. This can be done in several ways in BGP - change local preference in iBGP, changing the MED or, better, the AS_PATH in eBGP, filtering the routes so marked with a specific Community (progressive shutdown of BGP relies on the use of a specific community to do it this way).

HSRP is out of the question - its placement is to end hosts, not between routers.

Best regards
Peter

I can see in the crypto ipsec profile that you will use under the Tunnel interface configuration to enable the protection, you can configure the redundancy:

  • DHCP-discover with HSRP

    Hello

I have a general question about DHCP and HSRP.

I configured two redundant CISCO routers with (active) address IP 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.3 (standby).

Their virtual HSRP address is 10.0.0.1.

When my clients send DHCP package to the DHCP server on the routers, they send a DHCP-discover 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.3 discovery but not 10.0.0.1.

What is the right way or shouldn´t that the package go to the HSRP address?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello

DHCP detects are usually broadcast, not targeted on a specific IP address?

If clients attempt to renew and do not get a response from something they are unicast to, they'll do a DHCP Discover broadcast and get picked up by what on the local subnet that is interested in their service... so it shouldn't matter.

  • BGP, OSPF with default route

    Hello

My branch becomes internet through seat & connected through lease line and ospf is running. a static route id 0.0.0.0 set to HO.

Now an additional link is added to our extensive network of MPLS link redundancy & EBGP is running.

My question is how to configure ospf route (my internal network) to bgp & default (for internet) route for connectivity?

    Please help with examples.

    Thank you

For the internet, you need a default route. I am assuming that you will get by default route of MPLS as well so leased will remain DEFAULT road get MPLS BGp inject into LAN by this command that I already added to your config file.

    router ospf xxx

    default information are created

    !

Also if you connect line Lased and MPLS on the same router then router chooses MPLS as the main path as favorite eBGP and ospf. If you ave to change AD BGP routes to ospf will get better than BGP. Use in config for leased line primary and secondary MLP.

    router bgp xxx

  • How to configure the FWSM with HSRP support

    Hi all

We have 2 * 6500 Series switches with each FWSM core installed.

There are some users of VLANs (each floor) and a lot of servers inside that belong to some other VLANs.

Basic switches have been configured with redundancy HSRP (active/passive).

Today, I am picky with FWSM routed mode configuration.

There is no problem with the default configuration and testing,

I mean assigning VLANS to FWSM and delete addresses IP of MSFC.

But unfortunately whenever I have such a configuration, do I lose naturally redundancy between switches.

In our situation HSRP is a must.

Is it possible to fix this design in routed mode, with support HSRP. ?

    Thank you

    Erdem.

    Hi Erdem,

(correct me if I'm wrong, Jon) - If you remove all the Lass you must route all traffic of course the FWSM.

What we did was to create a transfer network (VLAN) with a SVI and FWSM inside external interface. Now, the default gateway on the FWSM is on the IP address of the SVI. So most of the range is configured on the switch.

    Kind regards

  • DMVPN spoke with HSRP sells HUB

If I use the real IP address of the HUB 192.168.1.2 interface, it works fine.

I changed the mode of multipoint gre tunnel and changed to point to the real or VIP and seems not in line with the VIP HSRP.

Is this a supported configuration, or am I missing something?

The end result is routers DMVPN HUB running HSRP and we talked, pointing to the VIP address.

I feel that, since then, IPSec, the communication breaks when you use the VIP

    Hello

The hub does not generate the packages using the VIP.

If the RADIUS is trying to connect to 192.168.1.1 while the hub will respond with 192.168.1.2.

For redundancy, you can create two tunnels on the RADIUS. 1 for every router and use eigrp to decide the best option.

You can still use hsrp to the internal network on the hubs (the network doesn't not facing rays) so the right router will be the gateway for internal routers.

  • Multihomed BGP - which will broadcast directly connected networks?

I'm labing in place a script on my site of practical Cisco HSRP, BGP GNS3 and perhaps grow later on network practice as well other protocols.

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/Tech/tk365/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080093f2c.shtml

Everything is already configured and the installer, except that I don't have interconnection routes announced to any BGP process on routers, still.

Interconnection networks as you can see in the photo are:

    192.168.31.0

    192.168.42.0

    192.168.63.0

    192.168.64.0

Obviously I can't source these networks of each router, or use redistribute connected on each router because I would get duplicate routes, so my question is: what routers you use to come from these 4 networks of? I was thinking of using the network control (or maybe even a map of the route) on ISPA for networks 192.168.31.0 and 192.168.63.0 and ISPB for networks 192.168.42.0 and 192.168.64.0.

What is the appropriate method of world real something like that, or there are several ways to do this correctly?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Vanjaburic,

Failure RIB is not a problem. You'll see this output normally where BGP route is not able to settle in to the routing table, as a route to higher value AD is already there in the routing table. Here we have a static route.

more information on the failure of BGP RIBS

    http://blog.ioshints.info/2007/12/what-is-BGP-rib-failure.html

    • The function of failure on the SIDES was introduced in IOS version 12.2 T; before that, the BGP routes with superior remote than other sources of road administration have been ignored in silent mode (like all other routing protocols).
    • You can view the BGP routes that are not inserted into the table of IP routing with the commandshow ip bgp ribs-failure , which also explains why the road BGP not was not inserted in the IP routing table.
    • BGP which are not used due to the higher administrative distance roads are always announced to all BGP peers (contrary to what most other distance-vector routing protocols do), unless you configure bgp delete-inactive (introducted in 12.0 and 12.2 T (26) S).

  • DMVPN with dynamic failover HSRP/IPSEC

    "DMVPN with dynamic failover HSRP/IPSEC."

Hi all. Is this possible? When you use a direct IPSEC LAN to LAN, you have a card encryption and when you secure the card encryption at the source of the tunnel interface, you configure "' crypto map redundancy with State '."

The DMVPN does not use encryption card, sound by using an IPSEC profile with protection of tunnel. How you configure stateful with HSRP IPSEC in this situation?

We're heading for a double cloud dmvpn topology with 2 heads dmvpn geographically separate. I want that every network head to have a redundancy HSRP, which can be done fairly easily. But I also want State IPSEC to be replicated for all security associations IPSEC do not fall in the case of a failover. Is it possible in this scenario and how?

    Thanks a lot as always.

    Hello again ;-)

There are currently no plan at the moment (that I know) to mix with State redundancy and anythign with protection of tunnel.

Frankly it is best to create redundancy in DMVPN termination on both turntable and relying on routing protocols - which I am sure you aware of so I won't bore you with details.

That said, my personal observation is - if you want a failover go to ASA, when you have routers, you have all these wonderful tools like VTI/GRE for IPsec that mix well with routing protocols, and MUCH MUCH more. It is very often to change some timers for routing protocol driven "failover" happen very quickly.

  • BGP community send - how does it work?

    Hi guys,.

I hope that if anyone can help me understand how to send a community attributes work between ISP?

We have an internet connection to multihomed with two Internet service providers of peering with two local routers (R01 - INT and INT - R02) and we are prefer isps1 on the other. Please attached flowchart along.

We run iBGP between the local routers (R01 - INT and INT - R02) and R01 has a higher local preference which is looked at with isps1 and R02 has lower local preference which is looked at with ISP2.

We are a consignment attribute ISP2 community with advertising prefixes they use to manipulate the routing. I have also read on their site with this community attribute, they alter the local preference of roads so that it is less than one received a counterpart road but is not less than a transit provider.

I understand that they will lower the local on their router preference so that it is not preferred but how IPS2 say other ISPS is not the way through their network if you go to those specific prefixes.

    Really appreciate your help.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jay

    Hello

In my humble OPINION, they can manipulate BGP attributes again (BY adding or MED, for example) or even to use the special communities agreed with their neighbour ISPS in advertising prefixes to them?

  • Best practices HSRP

    Hello

I wonder which of these 2 configurations would be preferable to provide bridges of high availability for the client's Office.

I have a working configuration right now composed of 2 SRI configured with HSRP as a proof of concept.  The question is what is the best solution to scale for the production.  I have a gigabit link between the customer gateway and my gateway so that their LAN traffic can be routed through my internet connection failure in the service of their in their border router or Internet service provider.

    Option 1. 2 layer 3 switches (cisco 3650)

    Option 2. 2 routers (cisco 2911)

I can provide more if necessary context.

    Thanks for your help!

A 2911 Cisco is not likely to deal with 1 Gbps of load.  Highly unlikely.

If you need to do NAT, IPSec, or something like that you will need a router.  Probably something SRI 4000 series.

Otherwise, use the switch Cisco 3650.  It will connect dish a Gbps link without any problem.

Is it possible to remove the legacy of OSPF into BGP attributes?

How to set the "next hop" to the value 0.0.0.0 and "metric" to 0?

    Thank you

    Best regards

    Jérôme

    Hello Berthier,

NEXT_HOP is a hill & attribute mandatory path including the eBGP value is the IP address of the BGP peer (specified in the neighbor's remote control) where the router learns the prefix. Thus, your peers (eBGP) will still see the IP 192.168.88.138 in your BGP Next Hop as updates. I agree you the output of the command ' sh ip bgp neighbors 192.168.88.138 roads announced "can be confusing, but not worried about it.

Metric 20 is cause of path must be acquired by OSPF. Copy in default atributte MED BGP metric. So I see that you have only a peer is very important change this value because MED is not transitive, if this value is not propagated by other ACE access your provider. Anyway, if you want to change, you must:

    1. create a list of prefixes with one or more prefixes that you want to "reset" the MED value:

list of prefixes prefix-to-reset-MED seq 5 permit 192.168.10.0/24

list of prefixes prefix-to-reset-MED seq 10 permit X.X.X

    2. create a roadmap

allowed to reset - MED card route 5

    match of prefix-to-reset-MED IP prefix-list

    the metric value 0

road map provided to zero-MED allowed 10

    !

The last road map is necessary to ensure that the rest of the prefixes are sent.

    3. apply the road map

    a neighbor EBGP-PEER-IPv4-roadmap given to zero-MED on

  • BGP

    Hi all

We have a customer who has formed the BGP relationship with one of the neighbor ISP. The way they put in place is, they are just nearby and they advertise only their subnet but do not receive all of the ISP.

They just use static to point to ISP route.

Can someone please advise, why it is necessary to do so? (No advantage)

They can't just point to ISP using a static route without having to buy BGP AS? (If say save money)

Can they just get the ISP routing table?

I know they are different thing to consider.

    (1) router can handle the load?

    (2) have double links?

But apart from this no specific advantage? Please advice.

    Thank you

    Hello

Customer must have session BGP with ISP to announce its internal network and the networks of his client to the outside world. Otherwise to buy ip pool of the psi and PSI would BGP origination and the advertising of this ip pool. Problem is in this case, when the customer changes service provider, it would need to re - allocate ip addresses in its network given by new ISP. It's not easy and it's pain.

For outbound traffic, if the customer is having a single link upstream to the ISP-1, no point of taking the route table full, instead it may have the default route to push all traffic to ISP - 1. Now this default route will be charged via BGP static route or service provider. Customer must be redistribute static PGI to make it available to the other routers on the network.

    -Pls remember messages useful rate.

    Kind regards
    Assani
