BIOS paranoia - Satellite P10

Hi friends,

Read of problems have after changing the BIOS update I ask is it worth it, or necessary, some people seem paranoid to get new ones but then all sorts of problems. I've updated my P10 804 on [4years old] which was pre installed with the House of Windows XP Home edition to Windows XP Home SP2 Pro edition.

Should I update? If I do, how can I know that that tosh have for me is the right one for my cassis implemented as it probably assumes I still have the original home addition.

Thanks for any advice you want to share,
Colin,

PS: happy xmass to you all!

Hi Colin

Paranoia of BIOS? ?:| What the BIOS update is always risky!
The BIOS wrong or bad BIOSO can damage the motherboards ROM module

You are right; many people here ask always new updates of BIOS for different reasons. My laptop is 4 years old and I ve never updated the BIOS on this subject.
Why? Because that the laptop runs correctly and I don t see reasons why I should update the BIOS.

So I always took this advice; never change running system!
Maybe it s a good tip for you also

Your description does not sound very well.
I mean it looks like that the BIOS update procedure went wrong and only EPA could help solve this problem.

Maybe you are a lucky man and only the BIOS has to be flashed again.

  • Satellite P10 874: update BIOS wrong changes the serial number?

    Hello

I have Satellite P10 874, my model number has erased the background after years of use.
I recently did an update of the Bios of the Web from Toshiba site and realized more late it was for the SP10E models.

Well my system did not fall down. (Part no) model number change if you update with a version of Bios, not intended to be your system?

My system is still under warranty, but the new model series/number combo is shown as invalid global law database. My USB ports don't work anymore after that it showed a message of power surge.

I need to go to the customer Service. Is there a way to retrieve my originial model no and not?

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Concerning
    lejoe

A 'bad' Biosupdate does or does not replace the modelnumber of your machine. So you don t have to worry when you give the machine to a service centre, they have the ability to retrieve your serial number with their system and understand the modelnumber of your machine.

With regard to your USB ports: send the machine to your local concern for service-center and Don t on the modelnumber stuff. Your machine is still under warranty and since they will change about your pcb, your worries on the bad bios system is useless.

Furthermore, I can't imagine that you seriously a bad bios Flash, since the machine during the biosupdate ususally scream if you try to Flash a bios wrong on it.

  • Satellite P10-304 - update Windows 7 problem

I have a Satellite P10 304 to 2003 which has Windows XP, but I need to update for obvious reasons. I bought a copy of Windows 7 (32 bit) and installed without any installation problem, however I can't update Windows.

I reinstalled, deleted the hard drive and reinstalled again. Tried the stop and start the Windows Update utility.
    Downloaded the stand-alone Windows Update.

Updated the BIOS to V2.0 and downloaded the Toshiba Service Station application (who says no update is necessary).
    All this without success.

My hopes were raised when I saw that the Station Service for Windows 7 32 bit software was available for the P10 304 but I am now at a loss.

Anyone know if this laptop can be upgraded to Windows 7 and how to get updates of work?

    Help is welcome.

    Peter

I'm sure that installation of Windows 7 update problems are not specific to Toshiba problems even if you use the Toshiba laptop.

From my point of few, you should check the Microsoft support pages to find the solution.
    For example this:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/w...#1TC=Windows-7

Just a tip: I had some problems in the past to install updates because of the antirust software. He locked the installation of some essential updates and after you disable temporal, updates could be installed...
Missing Service Packs might concern the single installation of patches.

  • Satellite P10 - 832---> stops

    Hello
Since a few weeks my Satellite P10 stops suddenly
    It comes up with
    (1) battery
    (2) AC adapter
    (3) battery + AC adapter
    Why?
I downloaded a bios update but it's always the same
I formated 3 times, without making all internet connections (someone told me it could be a virus from the internet), but she stops even if the OS is just formatted and empty (with an antivirus)
I checked my CPU temperatures and I saw that he could stop down to 36 ° C or 39 °... or work the best at 43 ° C!
(so I have eliminated a problem of temperature)
But I saw that when the CPU USAGE exceeds the 50% the rest machine for a few seconds or minutes (if I'm lucky!)... .then shut downs, once again!
The same problem is happening to one of my friends, with the same computer!
I can't play video games or do a full with my because antivirus scan that the CPU USAGE is over 50%!
    Is this a hardware problem?
    Thank you
    Jacopo
(Also have Win XP H.E.\SP2\Norton Antivirus 2004\Zone alarm Firewall\Microsoft Anti-Spyware)
    (Sorry for my rude English!)

    Hello

It is not easy to tell what the problem may be, but in my opinion there are too many processes that run in the background and the processor is at the limit. In this laptop case closed. It is the protection mechanism. Laptop to stop before the processor may be damaged.

Also, I had similar problem the spirit of my laptop. After the installation of the antivirus, the laptop was so slow that it was impossible to use it properly. You can try to remove Norton and try again.

Please inform me if there are a few changes. I am very interesting about this.

  • USB 160GB HDD - Satellite P10-304 doesn't see 127.9 GB

Can someone help please, I bought a new 160 GB Seagate Momentus HDD.

I put in a USB enclosure and connected, but when I go to Paragon Disk Copy he can see a disc unformatted 127.9 GB.

If I right click on 'My Computer' and use 'Manage', it says I have a unknown 128 GB drive connected.

I updated my BIOS to the latest available from Toshiba (2, 00 - WIN) dated 27/04/06 (on the Toshiba site "last updated on 27/04/06"). However, in the information system, he says: "BIOS Version/Date TOSHIBA V2.00, 28/12/2004", correct version but date looks old? on the site Web of Toshiba the last BIOS (V1.60) is listed as: last modification 15/12/05?

Does anyone know if the Bios allows more than 128 GB of disks?

If the answer is no, what are my options? If I go ahead and copy the disk it will work as usual, but as a 128 MB drive? Later if a new Bios is published, allowing disks of large capacity will be the full space available or should I take a disc image, reformat the hard disk and then copy the image (only have a record of this great would mean that I have to use another PC to achieve this).

Its a real pain, ideas or thoughts?

    Many thanks Tony

    Laptop: P10-304 running XP Home.

    Hello

I m not 100% sure if it has something to do with the BIOS.
I think that it s simply a matter of calculation.
HDD dealers calculate with 1000 and they must calculate with 1024. But the difference is still to oversized

Please also check the size of the HARD drive in the other sense. After the fixing of the external HARD drive, you could right click on the HARD drive and check the properties.

    BIOS:
Y, please read the more info section. You'll find info that the 1.60 BIOS update is only for the satellite P10 series models that contain "PSP13E" or "PSP16E" in the model number and version 2.0 of the BIOS update is only for the satellite P10 series models that contain "PSP10E" in the model number.

  • Problem of Toshiba Satellite P10 laptop!

    Hello!

I have a laptop TOSHIBA Satellite P10, Windows XP.

This is a new computer, not second hand!
The problem is that it stops when I connect it to the power adapter.

The only way I can work is it charge when turned off and then use it on battery.

The problem appeared after I bought it 20 days.
I sent it to the service of TOSHIBA, they have updated the BIOS, it worked perfectly for 5 hours (connected to the power adapter), and then the same problem appeared.

    Do you have any suggestions?
I'm looking forward to your answers!

    Christina

    Hello Christina,

Your laptop is replisse or herself down suddenly or do a controlled stop? What happens when you power on your portable computer when the power adapter is plugged?

  • Satellite P10 stop suddenly

I have problem of sudden closure with my Satellite P10... and no new BIOS update available.
Is there anyone who can help me?

    Hello

How old is your laptop and when it close? Perhaps during some heavy applications?

There are several times my laptop didn't stop because the temperature was too high.
Someone here in the forum suggested to clean the fans and the cooling with the vacuum module. I did it because my laptop is a little older. Because of the dust and debris, the fans didn't work properly and the temperature is increased to the critical level.

The operating system shut down the laptop to prevent damage.
I think you should check for this possibility.

Also the damaged software could be a reason to turn off automatically down. Especially the new installation of the operating system can help solve these problems.

  • Satellite P10 switch randomly between battery and AC

I have a satellite P10 who had some problems of strange power for about a year now.

My laptop switch to the power of the battery even when it is plugged. I will then either use the computer until the battery runs out and turned it off or Hibernate in until the battery may charge.

I thought that I had fixed by downloading and installing a new Bios from the toshiba site, which seemed to work for a while, but now it the problem seems to have returned.

I also bought a new battery and the bar of power, thinking that was the problem... but it does not solve the problem.

Someone else out there with similar problems, or a method to solve this?
    any thoughts would be great.

    Hi man,

I had similar problems with my machine, so you can check some things:

-When the CA is connected, then move him soft in all directions, there are maybe a few micro cracks on the AC connector.
-try to boot your machine without the battery, your motherboard charging system is may be defective
-Discover an another AC adapter, maybe the CA is defective

If you encounter some strange phenomena as power cuts or no charge while you perform this action above, then you have definitely a hardware problem and you will need to contact your local dealer or the service partner for the other instance.

So I had to do, and it's a faulty motherboard.

Hope I could give you some ideas.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite P10: Question about the limits of upgrade of RAM and HARD drive

What are the limits to upgrade my laptop Satellite P10? Currently, I use 1 GB of RAM (2 x 512) and I still have the original 60 GB 4200 RPM HARD drive. I'm mainly interested in upgrading my hard drive to at least get a 7200 RPM 100 GB disc. Better would be one of the ones 24 hours server as Hitachi HTE721010G9AT00, I have just turned off my computer. Which one to take and are there limits (BIOS) (keeping in mind that there will be 200 and even the 250 GB drives next year)?

RAM: should I put two 200pin SO-DIMM 333 or 533 or should not change at all as it works very well and stabil now?

    Hello

In my eyes you should follow the guidance of Toshiba line and must use the memory modules that are recommended in the user guide. But if you can also try to test with 400 Mhz or 533 Mhz. I think that each dealer notebook or memory could do that.

I think the BIOS might be able to handle the hard drive with capacity of 30 GB / 40 GB / 60 GB / 80 GB, Bus Master IDE with ultra DMA 100 synchronous
In my opinion the BIOS does not recognize the larger HARD drive.
