  • Boot my PC, I get a black screen that says ultra dma mode-6 s.m.a.r.t capable.

    When I start my PC, I get a black screen that says ultra dma mode-6 extended s.m.a.r.t. capable but disabled keyboard interface error press fi to resume when I do that it starts as normal, when I posted e logitech about this they said: enable smart in bios and save.  I can't remember if they said it was a hard drive or a hardware problem, how can I go to the bios either no matter what.  I have a keyboard and wireless mouse

    Thanks M Clark

    Hello

    I suggest to reset the default settings to default and check for the issue.

    You may also contact the manufacturer of your BIOS to change these settings.

    Important note: Change (CMOS) BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

    Hi WEBERSCHLOTZSKY,

    1. When you receive the error message?

    2. did you of recent changes on the computer?

    3. what happens when you try to copy the file from the Windows XP CD?

    There are several reasons for this error message to occur.

    This problem is often caused when the boot.ini file is missing or misconfigured. This problem often occurs when a user has recently added or removed from an operating system on the computer or added or deleted hard disk drives in the computer.

    If you are unable to start Windows and the error message then consult the below Microsoft article and try the steps mentioned, check if it helps.

    I use a desktop Dell Dimension 8400 computer.

    [1] Just finished everything on your step 10. I went with the Microsoft Security Essentials.

    [2] I still need to download site driver Dell trying to correct this "floppy seek failure pilot 1,2 and 3 not found: ATX, SATA 1, 2 and 3' problem"

    [3] I just got e-mail from Microscoft response that the thread that I created has been deleted, so I answer to you of a past replica.

    Wanted [4] Thank you for your time and patience to help me. Is there something else to do for me, you can recommend?

    A1. Wise move IMHO. The computer seems "snappier" now?

    A2. I can't imagine that another owner of a Dimension 8400 (or 4800?) has not encountered this problem before. Discover (i.e., search) the Dell office equipment forum: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514.aspx. If necessary, start your own new thread (registration required).

    A3. If you start another thread on the computer, I have posted a reply to this & you asked to publish a follow-up replies to your original thread. [?]

    A4. Welcome & thank you for your comments.

    In fact, there is something else you may need to do: it turns out that KB2607712 is replaced by the KB2616676 in Vista & Win7; Windows XP needs to have both installed [despite the mention you referred in your post on September 14, above] !!!

    => So if Update for Windows XP (KB2607712) is NOT listed in Add/Remove Programs, you will need to manually download/install a revised version [long story, involved - you don't want to know]:

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ACTIONS:
    1. open Internet Explorer to http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=27244 & click on the button CONTINUE.
    2. after VALIDATION, download the installer for KB2607712 & save it to your desktop - NOT run again!
    3. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).
    4. double-click on the file that you saved in #2 above to install the update. Follow all the instructions (reboot required).
    5. check that the Update for Windows XP (KB2607712) is now listed in Add/Remove programs.
    PS: If you have NO Office or Silverlight or any installed Windows Live Essentials application, I can tell you how to start your Windows XP computer & full load more quickly.
  • When I turn on my computer, I get a black screen that says "NTLDR is missing" or "NTLDR is compressed".
    original title: NTLDR missing/Tablet
    I have a Gateway laptop that "turns" Windows XP (512 MB / 80 GB SATA in 2006).  It is slow, but it works--or he did until last night.
    While putting 'him' in a simple test, she landed and after salvation 3 fingers (Ctrl, alt, delete) to restart, it refused
    to move further beyond the initial blue screen; I could not connect.  Frustration led me out of disk OS reboot of the manufacturer and
    had to it.  Not only did the function "backup" first, but if I deleted everything and tried to start again the thought, the system would work.
    No luck.
    Now, after I turn it on, all I get is a black screen with the message "NTLDR is missing" or "NTLDR" compressed alternation.
    I read a few posts here with "solutions", but my system does not allow me to type anything other than Ctrl/alt/delete.  I can't type a
    unique character; the cursor will move to the command prompt. Unfortunately finances prohibiting my taking it for a "workshop" for repairs, so I'm really stuck.
    Can someone please tell me how to get the cursor to move, or how I can adjust the system to its old self?  Please?
    Hello
    I read on issues such as
    You need to reinstall the OS, but it would also be possible that this error is related to the defective HARD and/or RAM disk.
    Many uses had this error again after the new installation of the OS and in individual cases the RAM or the HARD drive has been affected as well.
    What to say; It s your decision what you want to do... I recommend reinstall Win XP once more to verify if this question relates only to lack hal.dll in the system32 folder.
    However the Win XP license is cheap, because Win 7 is on the market and no one wants to use 'old' OS which will be more in the coming years...
  • Missing or damaged"< root windows > \system32\hal.dll.
    I get the message "Windows cannot start because the following file is missing or corrupt" \system32\hal.dll. It is a Dell computer running windows XP that came preloaded on the Dell. I've been running this computer for years before, without this problem. Can anyone help?
    If the computer is not currently bootable,
    Then, you will need to borrow an xp installation cd to start the computer and run some commands through the function of the CD recovery console.
    Another option, to remove the hard drive and install it as a slave on a functional computer disk.   then use this functional computer and the o.s. to fix the problem on this slave drive.
    Another option is to see if dell experts have a different methodology to fix the error.
    There is a community forum to dell.com dell, where you can ask this question.
    When I run a SWF file via my IE browser, I have no missing icons or black screen that appears. During the generation of the content to publish SWF with HTML5, it passes through successfully.
    When it is published through LMS, couple of slides in the length of the content, I am facing some missing icons and black screen.     Can someone please confirm for me that's what I have to do?
    The fact that you were able to start normally after F2 in the bios menu, F9 to re - set the bios to factory default then F10 to save this setting, the default BIOS * strongly * suggest that the bios was losing his in the memory of the specific hard drive that was installed.
