BlackBerry Smartphones GPS never find any satellite

Hi all

My first blackberry and my first post - blackberrys ROCK!

Lovin my 8110, only a niggle - one of the main things I wanted this phone to was the GPS, but suspect I may have a defective hardware that the GPS never found a single satellite, looking for just indefinitely.

Google maps for example, I select 'My position', and he thinks I'm a half mile away saying "-your location at 1200 meters.» "Waiting for GPS". The GPS never answers, I guess it gets less than 1200 meters by triangulation my position over the telephone network (vodafone).

BlackBerry Maps - "Searching for satellies...» "Again, never to find!

Options-> AdvancedOptions-> GPS:
GPS data source: GPS device
GPS services: location
GPS location:
Latitude: N 0 * 0.00'
Longitude: W 0 * 0.00'
Difficulty of time: no
Number of Satellites: 0
Precision: 0.0 m
Location service: enabled

My suspicions are correct, if my phone was delivered broken?

Thanks in advance
Tom

Try refresshing to the Gps, go to menu, options, advanced options, gps, press menu again and refresh GPS

Don't forget, you have to stand outside to receive the satellite signal

  • BlackBerry smartphones can not find any application that opens saved contacts

I backed up my contacts from blackberry "BOLD" from my mac. They are saved in the folder my documents, although when I try to open the file I get an error message saying that I don't have an app to open the file. When I try to find an application to open the file such as Word doc, I got another message tells me that the file is corrupted and cannot be opened. What can I do to make sure that the contacts on the phone are actually in my mac?

Yes, it's a backup file, in its own format, not something that you can open in your Mac. It is for the restoration of your contacts to your BlackBerry.

If you want to view your contacts on the Mac, you have to 'sync' of your contact data to some Mac Organizer app like Entourage.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones GPS on any area network?

Hi, I m new with BB but I want to know something, can I use the GPS function or the WiFi features on a place that has no cell phone network signal /... for example, if a trip to another country with no active roaming?

    Thanks in advance.

GPS on blackberry requires NO wifi or data.  BlackBerry maps, google maps and most current main GPS apps for blackberry require data or wifi, but it's a limitartion of these software applications, not blackberry devices.  There are other FREE applications that DO NOT require any data plan.  Nor do even need wifi connectivity.

Google search for 'Mobile GMAPS' download the free app on your Blackberry.  It can be used completely with just your phone internal GPS and mapping files that have been downloaded to your SD card.  Or, if you want, you can use the wifi instead of data, but there is absolutely no need for any connection other than via the internal GPS device once you have maps on your SD card.  Mobile GMaps is not nearly as feature packed as GPS applications more mainstream for blackberry that currently require data plans, but hey, it's a free app and you will save data charges.

Once you have installed Mobile GMAPS on your phone, you will need to use your PC and go to www (dot) mapcacher (dot) com and create a mapping file using google, yahoo or live maps.  Just select the area of the map you want, select zoom levels 1-16, choose the amount of detail and then click on the button to begin to build your mapping file.  The file will be created in a few seconds.

You must then import this map file into an application like v0.7.2.2 gmapmaker mgmaps (dot) com/www cache (point) and install it on your pc as well. Import the mapping file into this tool and your map will be created.  There are a few different tools that can do the same thing - you can learn more about the different ones on Mobile GMAPS forums or better yet the site Crackberry - this is where I originally found the tutorial for this process.

Get the built cards is not difficult, but it may take some time depending on your broadband ISP, the size of a map that you create and the amount of detail that you put on it (zoom levels add more information and you can choose anywhere between 1-17).  Then there is also the matter of getting the map to your sd card file once it is built because there will be a lot of small image files and folders Windows PC may not like if the structure of the file is too big.

I recommend trying a few small test cards (like just your city) so you see how it works, try the different zoom levels and details.  After a few tries, you'll know how to create the perfect cards and the best files of sizes to easily copy maps on your SD card.

It is not the best tool, but it is available and it is free and can be used anywhere and anytime - as long as your GPS can find the satellites.  I imagine that there will be much progress in other programs that do the same thing, because the free service is the way to go!  I hope that the major GPS manufacturers take note and join the herd by creating SD maps for blackberry devices too (windows mobile and symbian phones have this option) or they'll be next to lose a lot of money.  Why would anyone want to use their data plan to use the GPS when it should work on its own?

The answer THEY will tell you is because it allows you to get the latest maps all the time, it's a limitation of phone blackberry that data is required.  This is total Bull * if.  The cards are always changing, but not enough to justify the cost of data each month.  Their is a lot of software SD card capable apps out there (TomTom, Garmin, Navigon, etc.), but they only work on Windows Mobile and Symbian, and because Blackberry push data, the SD versions have not been built yet.  At least with this tool, you know it is possible and can stop believing the hype of data plan.  In addition, if you want new cards, you can go out and download a new one whenever you want and copy it in your SD car.

Enjoy your free, anytime, anywhere, GPS and pass on the good news to other friends of blackberry.

  • BlackBerry smartphone how to find BlackBerry backup voice note files?

I don't know where my BlackBerry backup files are?  If I find I can look to see if a series of voicenotes I did in October/November is there & can I restore these?

    Hello

Voice memos are not elements of database and therefore are not part of the backup procedure... see this:

    • KB03974 List of database for the blackBerry smartphone

These databases are what manages the backup process. With some versions of the Desktop software, you could include the content of the memory of the device... so if your voice memos were stored there, then they should thus be included in the backup file... and you had a selective memory of the device only restore to restore (keeping in mind that it will restore ALL the memory of the device not only the voice Notes).

You can use a drive IPD/BBB, part 3 on your PC... I heard good things about MagicBerry... to analyze your backup file to see exactly what it contains.

If the files in question are not contained in the IPD/BBB file and were not copied separately (for example, via the mass storage Mode) to the PC, then if they are also cleared from the BB, then files are unfortunately gone for good.

Overall, my own personal for my weekly Desktop software backup process is to make the backup with the desktop software, but then more, via the mass storage Mode, copy all the contents of my device memory and Media Card on my PC as well... just in case... you never know what might happen. Oh... and I included a manual backup of my BBM contacts to my media card as well.

    Good luck!

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Google maps is a free application that uses the GPS and triangulation via cell towers. If your GPS is enabled it can be very accurate. If your gps does not find a satellite, Gmaps will be triangulate your position within 3,000 metres.

The cards are excellent, provide traffic, both in turn. Satellite image shows as well.  Allows to search for the company and displays the phone number and address. You can click on the number to call.

Again, it is free, so you can lower the load and try it.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones can not find loader.exe

    Hello
Many references are made to the use of enforcement loader.exe in c:\program Research in motion\apploader when reloading the Blackberry OS instead of using BBDTM.
I am a new user of Blackberry and charge of the BBDTM, version 5.0.1.18, which came with my Bold 9700.
In my c:\program of Research in motion, I have two folders, Blackberry and Blackberry Media Sync. In any of these files or subfolders find loader.exe application.
What is a separate download that I need to install?
If so, please provide me with a link to the download.

Apparently, you're not in the right directory is part of your problem in order to find the loader.exe.

My wife and I had our 8900 s for 6 months.  All this time, the GPS worked so sporadically (works maybe 5% of the time) that we have renounced them.  I read all the posts on almost all forums, including this one.  I was on the phone with T-mobile for more than 2 hours - almost an hour of going out on my patio in 105 degree heat!  After going on all of the possible settings and reboot several times, the girl has finished telling me that it must be because the trees in my yard blocked the signal.  His only suggestion - call RIM.  What have I learned?

    1. I can't use my GPS inside to plan a trip. (roof and walls block signal)

    2. I can't use my GPS in the van to get to a place. (signal blocks of metal body)

    4. I can't use my GPS in the mountains to keep from getting lost. (trees and mountains block signal)

    5. If I am in the open field, GPS find signal about 5% of the time.

    6. I can't find the phone support for us peons.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones GPS connectivity is very slow

When I try to find my location, I get a message saying: unable to connect to Google GPS temporarily.  It will take 5 to 15 minutes before it finally connects.  Anyone have a solution for this

On any Blackberry model, first make sure that you in a area of signal coverage is good AND outside with a clear view of the sky view in an open no skyscraper area.

Your CDMA xx30 or xx50 model BlackBerry, follow these steps:
Go to the Options icon > status
In the status screen on the keyboard type "test" (without the quotes!).
You will see a Test screen device Self. Click on the Menu button and choose Start. You will find a list of tests. The substantive test should be GPS, check it and click Menu > run. Remember location GPS is turned on. Go outside without obstacles or the tall buildings around or above you. Click the trackball, then click start fixing. is should do a test. Let it do its thing and it should tell you that a location coordinates.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones GPS and the small speaker

OK people, I know that out there, someone has a solution for this.  It seems so simple, but so far I didn't get a response.  Here's the situation.  It is difficult to hear GPS directions by the Blackberry Curve speaker.  I would like to send the directions to my bluetooth device or if it is completely impossible, voice instructions for my headphone plug.  I tried the two and no work - the sound contiues to get out of the enclosure.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

I found the solution.  When I tried to make the GPS directions stronger, I pushed the speaker button.  Much to my surprise, he looked for the bluetooth device.  When I turned on my helmet, GPS voice instructions went directly to the headset.  It works very well.  The only problem is a slight delay.

Problem solved. Now if someone could just find a way to get the sound of the Sprint TV to the bluetooth headset...

  • BlackBerry Smartphones GPS does not work

I have a 8330 and the GPS does not work.  I have Blackberry Maps and Google Maps, each says are looking for satellite units trying to find where I am.  Alltel tech support said I have to pay $9.99 per month for telenav, but I hope that this is not correct because I was told THAT GPS was on the phone when I bought it 3 weeks ago.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones GPS LOCATION

I've been working on trying to get my BlackBerry Torch to get an accurate GPS position. I go to Options > device > location settings. GPS DATA source is: GPS device, location Services: location, location data: Enabled and location service activated. I go to the menu and click Refresh the location. I then wait for a future situation. As the address I get a number that does not exist.  The street I live on that is only 1 block long and gives the house number is not valid.  He said that precision be 6,97 m.

I tried out and refreshing my position several times, tired standing in different places. Right now it shows 6 satellites. I tried to disable location data, before you turn off the location helping. I see no difference.  I tried the things listed on this page: http://blog.telenav.com/blog/2011/01/common-fixes-for-att-navigator-on-the-blackberry-9800/ nothing seems to help.

I plugged a location on ATT Navigator and shown both States the time to get there is 15 to 20 minutes on the real time it takes to get there.

I reinstalled ATT Navigator today to see if that would help. But he did not.  The physical location seems close enough, but when I plug my actual address, it shows a different location. More than 88 meters off the coast. Very different 6,97 m.  For now, I'm sitting in a Chair and he shows me move on to the next Street and back. I have the most up to software date for my phone.

Is it possible that I can get the GPS working properly?

    Tammie

Probably, the GPS works correctly, and your street is lot numbered.

Let me explain: my house is located at street number 35 XXXX Street, although we are at the end of the block.

So, my GPS, while at home, always puts to 99 number XXXX Street.

It's because many of street follows a set pattern begins by xx1 and ending with x 99 in any block of data.

Thus, our street should look like this.

    99----------------35------------------1

When it actually looks like this:

    35----------------17------------------1

    Is that helps explain?

Insofar as sitting in your Chair, GPS get you moving... because you're not outside well to the satellite showing, it is guestimating where you are.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones GPS, the 8300 and ATT

I got my 8300 about a year previously and has waited until now to install the Garmin Mobile for Blackberry.

Cingular says it had GPS 'ability' and I thought that it meant "integrated."  I paid $100 for the Garmin

Download and got the version for phones WITH GPS.  Naturally he has no satellite.

It is then that I discovered that I have the 8300 and not the 8310.  In addition, I had no Blackberry Maps

featured and was ready to download/install, when I noticed the statement that IT DOES NOT

ON ATT.  So, now I'm here with a bad brain trying to figure out how to get out of this trouble before

I fed the rest of my money to Garmin or ATT or the PERSON, to get a less-than-perfect GPS Setup.

I could get the Bluetooth GPS receiver, someone else purchased for about $60. Garmin Mobile software

is an OF WHAT GPS with integrated phone and I noticed somewhere that it does not work for phones receive signals

a Bluetooth receiver.  To stay with Garmin, I have to buy their package for about $150, which includes a

receiver and the software to go with it.  Using THIS plan, buy one once, there seems to be no. $ 9.99/month

subscription to process. (I'm wrong, or am I missing something here?)

I could get the receiver for $60 as shown above and subscribe to Telenav GPS stuff that came with

My att phone. I downloaded the new maps of them today, but I am not at all impressed with their quality.

I also think that it is outrageous to pay the subscription of $9.99 / month to something I have trouble reading.

Then... I guess I wonder if I should cut my losses here and go get the Garmin Nuvi that someone else

has said was excellent for car navigation?  I like really use my 8300 for everything and have GPS it would sweep.  But I don't know if I combine a GPS system on the phone that he would give me the configuration of navigation that I would.

There you have it. Opinions and advice are appreciated. BJ

It works very well... and really uses satellites.  With Blackberry Maps, the dashboard for the navigation shows the speed you're going on the left, the right direction and a satellite icon in the middle with a number, which I guess is the strength of the signal.  The unit works as well for the location with Google maps, too.  Note: the key to the Bluetooth passcode is 0000.
