  The easiest way is, on a PC (you can not do on MAC):

  (1) make sure that you have a current backup and your BB complete... you can find the instructions at the link in my auto-sig below.

  2) uninstall all the BB OS packages from your PC,

  (3) make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed

  (4) download and install on your computer, the BB OS package you want:

  I was considering buying a BB 8330 with the express purpose to have the PDA features.  I don't want to connect to the e-mail or use the internet features.  I don't want to connect to my computer via the USB port and the calendar, phone book and contacts in my Outlook file and all of the notes that I add as I do now with an older Palm Pilot PDA.  Verizon is telling me that I need an additional data package in order to transfer data between the computer and the BB.  Is this correct?  Can I use the BB as an independent PDA service Verizon 8330?

  In addition, my Palm has the ability to transfer a Wrod or computer Excell file and edit it and post it on the PDA.  The 8330 will do that?

  Is a software that comes with the Smartphone needed and available to allow these functions?

  Again, all I want from Verizon is the telephony service.  All this I want to do it through USB and the computer.

  Your answer will determine if I buy the BBs as Christmas gifts for my wife and myself or stick with my old phone and get a new PDA to stand alone.  Thank you for your help in making this decision.

  [I know I am a "retarded" for even bringing this place, but we'll just go beyond the part and talk about what I really want to know here ]

  My wife and I went to an Android (Bionic) for me and an iPhone (4 s) for her. However, his old phone (Storm 2) has recently been replaced because his former 1 storm went wrong on her... and now, since my father thought finally get something to replace his old (not to mention, broken and unusable) Palm device, we thought we might as well give him the Storm 2 and see if it'll work out for what he wants.

  Here's the deal about my father and his PDA... already has a cell phone, so he won't move up to a smart phone, because he does not want to pay the extra money every month just to get a PDA phone when he probably never really use the data service much and all that.

  He wants a phone just to be a phone, and he also wants a PDA... just for the PDA part.

  So, I thought, very well... If he is not willing to move completely in the modern era, then we can at least give him something he can synchronize with Outlook (it works... I already tried) to have its calendar and contacts with him all the time (which it is not able to do with his simple mobile).

  So what I know is that it's possible, at least in a very limited sense... I have the Storm 2 sync with Outlook.
  However, here's my problem... for a reason, even if the wifi card appears to connect to the wifi here in their home access point, it is not actually get an IP address and can't get out on the internet with the browser integrated into all.

  My question is this...
  Is it because it is not possible (i.e. RIM has configured to disable the card wifi within the unit while there is no mobile phone service connected), or who should run, and I should watch more in the sense of something wrong at the level of the home network?

  I need to use a headset on the ear wired with a boom because of the difficulties of hearing / speaking. The earphones supplied with theBlackberry Pearl don't work well for me but I can not find a headphones using the 3.5 mm 4 connector plug used by the Blackberry I can find an adapter to use the other great headphones that I already own (uses two jacks 3.5 mm plugs, one for a microphone for the speaker.) Ideally, a type Y 2 Female3.5mm 2-pin plugs to 1 male 3.5 mm 4 pole would be the ideal solution. I would still make an adaptor myself if I cold find a seller for the connector 4 taken 3.5 mm jacks. Anyone know all sources? I checked the Radio Shack with no luck. I also would consider buying any other high quality on the wired headset ear.

  I just got my Torch 9800 replacement since my first only the battery was drainning (apparently a common problem).

  Recently, I bought a Blackberry Curve 8900 with tmobile. Now, here's the thing, I don't have a data plan of any kind with tmobile. Then, when I bought the phone I have insterted my phone and it started. Checked with my seller to make sure he made a phone call... He did it. So I knew for sure my card SIM was working fine...

  Heres where it gets weird...

  When I got home, the first thing I did was to connect to my network wireless... using a Wi - Fi connection... obviously. And from there, I went to the Setup Wizard and went through each step. When I got to the part of the Email, he gave me two options, I do not remember the two, but one of them has been "put in place of the emails through blackberry enterprise server"... or something like that. I didn't know that I didn't have a data plan, so I clicked on the second option. I went through the process and EMAIL... by WIFI.   Because, without THE BlackBerry data Plan, you will be using your WiFi HotSpot browser, and that's all. No email, no features of data application RIM as AppWorld or the BlackBerry Facebook app.

  I recently bought a blackberry curve 8520 with Fido. My phone is connected to my wifi at home, but I want to assure you that I'm strictly using data NOT wifi (because I don't have a data plan).   It's pretty simple... IF you are connected to your network Mobile disabled (no phone calls or SMS) you will use ONLY WiFi. Only. As long as you have the 'white' dashboard and the name of the network "green peanut butter", you are connected to WiFi, but without BIS BlackBerry data services.

  Clean your device remotely, then call your carrier to cancel your SIM card if you do not download charged for anyone else using your phone.

  To use the Push RIM owner messaging capability, you must have an adequate data of your carrier plan. Carriers host BIS BB users. In general, BIS is not available through generic data plans.   I'm moving to Bangladesh and wish to benefit from all the features of my "BOLD", I have to the United Kingdom. I already had my phone unlocked to be used on any network. Tells me that the largest supplier in Bangladesh is a Department of Telenor called GP. I have been in contact with GP customer service.   GrameenPhone offers BlackBerry services in sees (one of the regular users on the CIHI for Grameenphone works).  If you have an unlimited BlackBerry data plan, you will have access to the BIS network.  As for your question, about 3 G, 3 G only refer to data speeds.  So if you're in a 3G area, you will connect at a speed of 3G, but if you aren't, then you connect using EDGE.  This gives you all the data, but it's just a little slower than 3G.

  To set the tone for a person in your address book, go to the address book, highlight the contact, press menu, and select "Add phone custom tune" (this wording may vary slightly depending on the model and OS of your BlackBerry)

  To set a general tone go in the icon of your profile, scroll down to advanced, select your active profile and choose the alert that you want to change.  You cannot set a distinctive ring for address book entries and no address book entries

  I intend as a result tomorrow when my Storm (could actually be a couple of days, but I promise you, as soon as POSSIBLE). However, on your Mac, in the address book application follow these steps if you do not.

  (1) (to select the map that you created yourself (highlighted)

  (2) in the map menu, select make this card my card

  Just because you created a card with your info is not enough.
