BlackBerry Smartphones using wifi instead of internet through your operator?

Hi I recently bought a blackberry 9000 "BOLD" and I have a service plan that does not include the internet. is there a way I can use my wireless internet and have the internet carrier off so I won't have the opportunity to use the internet carrier so I don't get charged?

Options > Advanced > browser, Hotspot browser =, can be used on WiFi without a data plan.

Yep, that will definitely throw a crimp in your BIS data connection.

How can you not have noted that early?

    • Put the SIM card in and start the backup.
    • Leave the appliance to connect again with your network, roaming.
    • Then you should be able to go to your Mobile network settings and to disable the connection to your mobile phone network and to use BBM and email, etc., through WiFi only.
  • Browser blackBerry Smartphones - using Wifi or GPRS?

    Hello

I am a long time BB user, but the "BOLD" is new to me and so is WIFI connectivity.

Ive searched this forum but could not find a definitive answer...

With the Wifi turned on Mobile network, browse the internet always will use the Wifi connection in priority when it is available?

Even if I have a data plan, speed is my problem as I am not in a 3g area so obviously that WiFi is more preferable to GPRS.

I can't find a setting to set the priority for WiFi connections on Mobile network, or is this priority of connection integrated in the firmware?

    Thanks in advance

    Matt

IF the WiFi connection is available, the unit will initially use WiFi.

  • BlackBerry smartphone is Wifi free or not?

I just got a 9800 and been using Wifi most of the time to save on my limited data plan. I disable my network when I surf and download podcast using the integrated in the browser.

My question is am I incurring costs using wifi to browse and download?

    bbphilippines wrote:
Given that I'm always had access BIS wifi, I heard you still get your provider or the moving company costs.

No, data use WiFi does not count towards your limited service plan and if you find your carrier billing your for the use of the WiFi data, you must call into question.

  • BlackBerry smartphones turn off at & t Internet so that it uses only Wifi

I have a data limit on my plan and I was under the impression when I got access to a wifi network, say to my apartment, that my phone will automatically use the wifi instead of the information At & t network.  Is it possible to disable data At & t on my phone?  I know that I need, whether through the company, but if I could turn it on and off my phone so I can control when he access internet, I want to do.  Still receive phone calls and texts but only use internet when I chose to use it.

    -SLangston

I think that Jsanders has reason, but if you want to be sure, you can go into 'mobile network options' and disable data services.  This way you can still receive phone calls but it access data via AT & T until what you turn off Won't back on.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones use Storm 2 as PDA WiFi-Connected (without telephone service)?

    RESOLVED:
See the second post in this thread for the solution (thanks to wiggler forum member)

    ORIGINAL MESSAGE:

[I know I am a "retarded" for even bringing this place, but we'll just go beyond the part and talk about what I really want to know here ]

My wife and I went to an Android (Bionic) for me and an iPhone (4 s) for her. However, his old phone (Storm 2) has recently been replaced because his former 1 storm went wrong on her... and now, since my father thought finally get something to replace his old (not to mention, broken and unusable) Palm device, we thought we might as well give him the Storm 2 and see if it'll work out for what he wants.

Here's the deal about my father and his PDA... already has a cell phone, so he won't move up to a smart phone, because he does not want to pay the extra money every month just to get a PDA phone when he probably never really use the data service much and all that.

He wants a phone just to be a phone, and he also wants a PDA... just for the PDA part.

So, I thought, very well... If he is not willing to move completely in the modern era, then we can at least give him something he can synchronize with Outlook (it works... I already tried) to have its calendar and contacts with him all the time (which it is not able to do with his simple mobile).

So what I know is that it's possible, at least in a very limited sense... I have the Storm 2 sync with Outlook.
However, here's my problem... for a reason, even if the wifi card appears to connect to the wifi here in their home access point, it is not actually get an IP address and can't get out on the internet with the browser integrated into all.

    My question is this...
Is it because it is not possible (i.e. RIM has configured to disable the card wifi within the unit while there is no mobile phone service connected), or who should run, and I should watch more in the sense of something wrong at the level of the home network?

The reason why I think that it could be something awkward like that within the device itself, it is my new Android and iPhone of the wife are able to connect to the network wireless home here very well.

Sorry for such a long thing, goofy needs help, but I thought it is a good starting point. If anyone has ideas and is willing to help, please chime.

p.s. I am a computer scientist. So I have that aspect covered... at least you do not work with a complete * beep * if you jump here.

I thought about it. I did a search on google for the specific message I saw in 'wi - fi tools' (which was "no longer valid"ip address ") and found this thread...
    http://supportforums.BlackBerry.com/T5/other-BlackBerry-smartphones/IP-address-no-longer-valid/TD-p/...

The second post there (from wiggler), gave me the fix I need.
    Thank you!  :-)

  • Problems with the WEB BROWSER blackBerry Smartphones, use not wifi network to open some Web sites

Hello I'm owner of BB BOLD 9900 OS 7.1... for the last two days I am facing a pretty annoying problem with the BB browser.

It means not affects the device... it just annoys me.

When I TURN ON my WiFi on my BB with the network carrier Sim already homepage active who has a Active on it and open the web browser BB, according to the website on which I open the web browser chooses between the internet Wi - fi OR internet BIS carrier which is weird. BECAUSE a default if the wifi is enabled, then the web browser MUST use internet wifi network carrier for navigation. YOU TUBE, FB and TWITTER.com all use my carrier netwrok to open bt soon I open BBC.com or CNN or any other site the wifi symbol appears on the right side and so it uses the wifi network... and disappears when I opened THE 3 SITES you tube FB n twitter.

My knowledge is that when you activate THE wifi network, the WEB browser is intended to USE the wireless internet, NOT the internet carrier

The next time I switchd off the the carrier signal, and then Turned ON one internet WI - FI and then opened the web browser of BB. so now all the opend website with wifi internet bt as soon as I open YOU TUBE or FB or TWITTER.com it post a comment... .that cannot visit the web page when the carrier is off. Please turn on the radio n try again... I mean IT SHOULD OPEN with internet wifi? WHY do network carrier sim to open the web page?

I have checkd my browser settings and they are default and also my wifi settings I have reset the... the problem still persists?

    any idea wats going on?

Please help is needed I'm annoyed about this problem...

    Thank you

MR. KIWI... Good news... .i went to my carrier service center... Solvedo Problemo!

Go to your service books and remove directories of service WAP browser in all directories of service WAP 3 I don't know the exact name, but all are related to the browser... WAP config something like dat... Just remove dem... .and HARD restart your fone... and try to use only wifi on your device with your carrier network off...

mine worked... Let me know on urs... so now, the browser uses my wifi instead of my network provider when both are running...

  • BlackBerry Smartphones USE FOR CURVE 8520 WIFI

I recently bought a blackberry curve 8520 with Fido. My phone is connected to my wifi at home, but I want to assure you that I'm strictly using data NOT wifi (because I don't have a data plan). I noticed that in a network public wifi, a red asterisk * - appears on the WiFi icon in the upper right of the phone. Like this:

(the WiFi symbol is surrounded to demonstrate what I mean when I say WiFi symbol and the asterisk appeared like this)

However on my home network, if it says it is connected, the asterisk does not appear. As you can see it it says "Fido-peanut" (my router name) which means that Yes, I'm "connected..." BUT without the red asterisk on the wifi symbol (with my home WiFi) does that mean that I am not connected correctly?  I called Fido and the CSR said she thinks she has something to do with login password in public WiFi, but she's not sure.

The problem seems to be this: when I go on 'The Mobile Network Options' to activate ""data services ' OFF(to make sure that I am only using wifi and no data), the connection fails and I get this message: "

When I turn it on, I am able to connect.

    For ""connection preference ": "

what setting should I put if I don't want to use any WIFI data BUT?  Yes, the obvious answer would be to choose "WI - Fi" only, but this means that I won't be able to call/text because my mobile connection turns off.

So, how can I make sure I'm really only using wifi and not data when both the data service is turned ON and my wifi is 'connected '?

It is a list of what I've done:

    (1) the HOTSPOT USER - check.

    (2) insterted PIN provided by the phone to my dlink router (via online)

    (3) tried the push button configuration

    (4) restarted my router/modem

    5) there is a check mark next to the WiFi connection:

It would seem that I am connected to Wifi, but again, to reiterate, that I would like to ask if the WiFi is the ONLY thing I use and not data.

    Thank you!

It's pretty simple... IF you are connected to your network Mobile disabled (no phone calls or SMS) you will use ONLY WiFi. Only. As long as you have the 'white' dashboard and the name of the network "green peanut butter", you are connected to WiFi, but without BIS BlackBerry data services.

If you disable Data Services, you will not be able to use data in any form (via WiFi or Mobile network, if it is enabled.)

No BlackBerry data plan, you will be able to use the WiFi hotspot browser and some few third-party apps like Pandora radio.

  • Impossibility of blackBerry Smartphones using Blackberry Messenger with Wifi

    Hi all

I started having a problem with Blackberry Messenger about 5 days ago, I can't add contacts, send or receive messages while using on Wifi. I get like a small watch red on the side all I'm trying to send messages and my contact is never any of these messages.

I'm actually abroad so I try to use Wifi I want to pay a huge phone bill, I contacted my service provider, they say that everything goes well on their side, after making a few test (send me messages and beyond) and told me that the problem could be the Blackberry server. I've been abroad compared with the month last 2 and as I said problems only started a few days ago.

Someone of you adds a similar problem? Have you managed to fix it?

    Thanks for your time

    Vincent

On-screen connection management > Mobile network, what is your data Services on... must be THERE or WE roaming.

  • Access to corporate blackBerry Smartphones via wifi if e-mail isn't on a support

I have a torch 9810 via AT & T. If I turn the cell off the signal and just use wifi, I get all my emails professional very well. Don't need a cellular signal.

What happens if I cancel AT & T altogether and do not replace it with any carrier. Then I connect my blackberry via wifi to internet. Will I always have the corporate e-mail?

Part of me said 'Yes', because there is no reason not to. I can turn on the Bberry, connect it via wifi and get email. AT & T is superfluous.

Part of me said: 'No,' because I don't know, maybe that when I cancel AT & T, Blackberry (the company) "disqualify" me their server (or something) and therefore the phone is a brick.

Hello and welcome to the community!

BBs legacy (pre-BB10), all BB exclusive services, including e-mail, depended on an active account to BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS). The device itself does not have an email client full... depends on BIS in order to provide messaging functionality. And BIS infrastructure is hosted at carriers and BlackBerry - and is used for your email at any time, regardless of the channel (carrier or WiFi data network) that you have active on your BB.

So the long and short of it is that if you cancel your BIS account (due to the cancellation of AT & T), your email will stop working (because your BB will no longer be able to communicate with BIS), even if you only use WiFi.

The BB10 BIS is removed, replaced by a full e-mail on the device... so client, BB10 device can work perfectly for send only via WiFi, because there is no need to talk to BIS. But legacy devices must speak BIS.

    Good luck!

Edit... I just noticed the use of the word "business". If by that, you mean BES, then the same situation applies always... it is just a story of BES-level (from your carrier) instead of a BIS account which is required for features.

    See you soon!

  • BlackBerry smartphones can not connect to Internet / locked message screen

    Hello!!

I have 2 questions that I hope someone can answer.

#1), I have a unlocked new Curve 9300 OS5, checked with my cell phone provider to make sure that everything was compatible before I bought it. My cell phone operator's cellular consumption and their internet settings etc is the same as AT & T, but I am not able to connect to the internet. The phone I bought was a phone that has been configured for use with AT & T. My operator tells me that Blackberry phones are the only phones that they were not able to get to connect to the internet, all other phones that they have had no problem with, nice huh?  I do not understand why Blackberry phones, even those which is suitable for AT & T does not connect to the internet via cellular consumption, even using the same codes, or what you like AT & T, or so I thought. Someone, can someone help me to understand this or put me in touch with someone who can, I think Blackberry would learn this so that the problem can be solved, I know several people who would have liked to have bought Blackberry phones, but decided to not not having heard about my situation.

Locked screen message #2). I watched the video and followed the direction, made several times to ensure that I was not missing anything and I still can't display locked message to change the message resolved to plant in my message. Any thoughts on this problem?

Thanking all in advance for your time and your help.

    Heidi

#1) to connect to the Internet with a BlackBerry, you need to have a BlackBerry plan data. Without this, you will get no data service, apart from a few wifi on a BlackBerry Smartphone services.

(#2) you are sure that the device is 'new '? That the message is displayed on the lock screen?

  • BlackBerry Smartphones via WiFi without BIS email?

I am considering buying a Blackberry and I want to know if it is possible to use e-mails via the WiFi functionality in some Blackberry phones without having to subscribe to the Blackberry Internet Service. I use Outlook for work and would like to be able to send/receive when in a WiFi area. Is this possible?

I can't use WiFi to access my Outlook mail without subscribing to BIS?

OK, you need the BIS account to access Outlook

The only way to check this e-mail is to use some kind of portal through the Navig while on WiFi?

    Fix them too.

Yes. Your BES account includes up to nine e-mail BIS accounts, unless there is a restriction via IT policy of your company BES IT policy.
