Your version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello iowarob,

Thank you for using the Microsoft answers Forum.

You have recently installed any programs or updates that may hinder the passage of Vista's Windows Media? Have you recently experienced problems with the startup of Windows or other issues that are new?

Try the SFC scan to replace or repair files that may be related to Windows Media. I have included instructions below for this process.

The System File Checker tool

To determine if the problem you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool analyzes the system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.

To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

1. click on Start

Collapse this includes this image

and then type cmd in the box start the search .

2 right-click cmd in the programs list and then click run as administrator.

Collapse this includes this image

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click continue

3. at the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER:

sfc/scannow

When the analysis is complete, test to see if the problem you are experiencing is resolved. If the problem you are experiencing is not resolved, use the procedure that is described in the section "the System Restore tool.

If this does not please repost it here so that we can help you further.

    Hello

always check the compatibility of vista programs on the link below

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-Vista/default.aspx

If a program is compatible with vista you can try right click on the setup.exe, and then selecting run as administrator

It is not compatible with vista, you can try running it in a previous operating system mode

This does not work for all programs

I'm trying to convert VHS to DVD via my computer. I bought an ACQUISITION VIDEO & AUDIO USB card and I'm having the problem. It is coming that my version of Windows Media Technologies is not compatible with my version of Windows (Vista).

    Hi Als01,

    1. which video application do you use to convert?

First check if the ACQUISITION VIDEO & AUDIO USB card is compatible with Windows vista by using the Compatibility Center.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

  • How can I block Windows media player-all function or video?

OK, I have one of four newspapers-ons in my pc that is locked down pretty tight where the only thing I want to work is word processor (WordPerfect and starting Word version).  My teenage son has impulse control issues, which gives more access means that it is wandering and not on the task.  Theoretically, he likes to play music while working on school assignments (writing) on the computer.  The problem is that apparently in addition to the execution of music files already resident on our pc and external drive, he inserted DVD in the dvd player and movies run (secretly) that are played to use the features of Windows media player.  My preference would be to hell video functionality or the ability to use the DVD drive under this opening of session and leave the ability of audio file.  Is there a way to do this?

Alternatively, if I install another drive, can I block the video features of a different player and block the drive windows completely?

    Hi Akphoneguy,

We understand that you want to restrict your teenager using Windows Media Player to play the video file but without impact on music files. However, the feature that you are curious about is currently not available in Family Safety. It can only restrict the entire working application and not a specific feature within the application. If you think that restrict certain features of any application is a convenient feature to have safe family, we suggest that submit you it as a feature request to Microsoft who appreciates your comments and considers that the suggestion of a future versions. In regards to your idea to install a new drive and Windows Media Player blocking completely, as now, we have no information for the player who can perform the function you are looking for. We can only suggest what to look for any media player that may able to do using your search engine preferred.

  • Security Suite blocking Windows Media center to connect to the Extender

I was initially a little happy home network with an xbox 360, a wired router and my pc under Windows 7 ULT(64bit) Norton 360 AV. During my AV license expires, I downloaded the version of my ISP (Norton Security Suite 4) to replace.

Now I can't Media center to add or discover the Extender. I added to Windows Media Center svchost.exe to the list of permitted programs, but it doesn't have the thing.

In help on the xbox live forums, suggestions are to work with the Windows Firewall not Norton. The Norton software has a different interface for the administration of the rules and I saw not a place where you can designate which programs can access which ports. And half of the programs listed as Qwave, Remote Desktop etc, I can't even find the interface of Norton.

If anyone knows or has worked this issue before Norton Security suite please respond when you can. Thank you

    Hello

You can try the steps below and check if that helps.

    (a) in the main window of Norton Internet Security (Protect computer, privacy), in the network pane, click settings.

    (b) under smart firewall, in line with program control, click Configure.

    (c) in the control of the program window, click Add.

    (d) in her select a program dialog box, locate the executable file for the program that you want to add.

    (e) click Open.

    (f) in the program control window, select the level of access that you want this program to have

You can also check out the link below and check if that helps to allow access to the Media Center Extender.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/Extender/Setup/Firewall/Norton.mspx

Also follow the link given below for more information on non - Microsoft Firewall

    Hi jimbosum888,

I never had any problems with Windows Media Player, but it seems that an antivirus program or a firewall is blocking Windows Media Player.

If you have installed AntiVirus or an additional firewall, just disable and try to start the media player again.

  • Windows Media Player 11 boring!

Note Windows Media Player will sometimes referred to as wmp in the things of type I.

I have Windows Media Player 11 on my Dell Inspiron 6400/E1505 (Windows XP family 32-bit) and all the songs in my library have names, but the artist, the kind, etc. are all unknown. (this applies also to the songs on my USB key) They used to be very well organized and very well now, they are all under 1 long list everything but name unknown

Also, I can't click on a song or video to open wmp. I have to open wmp on my desktop, then click on the song in the folder play
I heard somewhere, you can enter a folder: C:/DocumentsandSettings / (name) or something and remove all .wmdb files and it will solve all the problems of Windows Media Player 10, 11 or 12. (I probably will not be able to get this site for you)
Is it because the Windows Media Technologies goes out of service at Microsoft because Windows 8 (which sucks by the way) does not use Windows Media?

    Hi HazzaXPman,

Here are a few troubleshooting steps that you can try to solve this problem.

Method 1: I wish that you run the fix - it.

If the method above does not work, proceed to the next method.

Method 2: Refer to the suggestions for the following link:

  • Windows Media Player 11 and IE 8 XP Pro and can't listen to a CD I ripped,.

    original title: music licensing

I am running Windows Media Player 11 and IE8 installed on XP Pro and when I try to listen to a CD that I pulled it out of my computer, a new tab opens in Firefox (my default browser), with the following message:

The license can not be downloaded because your Web browser is not supported.
To download a license, you must install Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or later.
To install the latest version of Internet Explorer, see the Windows Update page.

What do I need any type of license to, to listen to music, I ripped a CD I bought, and furthermore that the browser has to do with what ever automated procedure Microsoft Media Player must perform?

Suspecting that not having IE selected as the default browser might be interfering, I did so (something I'm not impressed about) and instead, was taken through to a Windows Media Technologies page http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/pdrm/en/welcome.asp?challenge=AAEAAZB*vUQ029QDmL5QfLzVnjGCf9din34fu*twoJQKPK0Agme7r3JqmhpZNJIHdVJ3JF20CQEtGSO6im53G7MUAjceYDRQUZXp2ghI5bYyB7kJjpvQoHFJNtNRWAvEXvv!fk7GbENwhn1K0gzMvWstLFBf3Esp9laOTsOCLqO7FqCfeYinJkeEGUevauivoM3NLAJOP4exrtgQX4zeRcujxi7W7AmLGDNRhh2qEgP1WmXh2PkzNZXwSn3QznsTK8!up58P10sX&DRMVer=1.4&embedded=false that provided some information about Licensing and Migrations and offered the opportunity to Download a License.  However, after selecting this button has encountered an error: 438 unknown error occurred when you store your license.

Where are the stored licenses and why is this is not the case with all the music I have on my computer?  Y at - it a way to wipe the slate clean for example. delete this dabase?

I would appreciate an overview of this and especially a viable solution.  Thanks for your time.

Microsoft actually has nothing to with licenses, this all started with copywrights, Pat.

CD/dvd/MFG, etc. even VCR tapes come into play... 3rd & 4th parties associated with records

& distribution band want a piece of the action, this puts some control over fraudlent records/etc...

Yes, there is a lot of BS

From there, simply download IE8, set internet options in IE, open WMP, get the license.
