How can I run CHKDSK /F on a blue screen on Windows XP? I can not at all to a command prompt.
I accidentally shut down my computer for an update. Now I can only get a blue screen with a message saying that a problem has been detected and I need to disable or uninstall any anti-virus, backup utilities or disk defragmentation. He told me to check my hard drive configuration and to search for updated drivers. Then it is said to run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption. The technical information is: 0 x 00000024 (0 x 00190203, 0x8638c6c8, 0xc0000102, 0x00000000). I can't run Windows in safe mode, I can't seem to run in its final configuration, nor can I get it to go to a command prompt - it just goes back to the blue screen. Maybe someday the dialog box 'ask a question' forums XP will ask these questions automatically when a new thread is started so I don't have to ask every time. It might even be possible to solve a problem in a single response when enough information is provided.
I think I'm about to lose hope on this fantastic.
The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination? (This includes the plug pulling, buttons power and removing the battery).
These can cause corruption in the file system that must be fixed before you do anything else.
If none of these events occurred (or even if they have not taken place), you must verify the integrity of your file system before anything else (especially "try" things).
There is zero logic to begin to try to begin to try to modify or copy files to a hard drive that has a corrupted file system, so this must first be fixed using the XP chkdsk program and run chkdsk on your hard drives may solve your problem completely.
Use the XP Recovery Console to check the file system on your HARD drive and fix the problems and then try to start your system - this may be all you need to do. Or, you are welcome to just start trying things that might work.

I am running Windows 7 on my Toshiba Satellite laptop. I get these during some time now. I checked the system restore, but when I got to my computer fixed some time they turned off so I have no restore points at all. I've updated to windows 8.1 and realized that the games run slowly on it. Then I updated my software drivers so I spent again to windows 8. I want to HP dv6 provided with Microsoft 8 on it (it's only a year today)
The problems that I encountered:
-L' computer would freeze with a screen colorful weird pixelated
-L' computer freezes while attending a bsod (you could tell because the screen would be the light blue color, but would not have error codes or restart)
-L' computer would go to a bsod with an almost different error code every time (sometimes I couldn't write before it will re-start)

-page_fault_in_nonpaged_area (ntfs.sys) (it's the one I see most often)
