Boot from DMG to HDD

I have an old Powermac G5 that I want to update to 10.6. My optical drive no longer works, but I have a DMG of leopard Installer. I open the DMG and clicked on install, to which he invites me to restart in order to install 10.6 but then the mac restarts just back to 10.5. No installation takes place.

Why is this?

Is it not possible to put the DMG and old hard drive using disk utility, then boot from that?

Thank you.

Hello

You cannot start a DMG because you need an operating system to mount the DMG.

You can restore the DMG on a hard drive or Partition to boot from, but no G5 can perform 10.6/Snow Leopard, a G5 can work on 10.5.x/Leopard.

  • Tecra M2: Can I boot from USB/Firewire-drive external HARD?

    Hi all

How can I boot from an external USB drive?
The Bios 1.20, 15/03/2004 does not seem to support this on my Tecra M2.

I have a Maxtor 300Gig external HARD drive that can be connected via Firewire or USB. Usually, I use a PCMCIA card Firewire to connect the HARD drive, which has 3 partitions.

It would be also possible for a start-up by PCMCIA Firewire?

I have PC (Windows7, SATA HDD, without CD/DVD drive), netbook and Toshiba External USB HDD 320 GB (MK3259GSX). Can I boot from the USB HDD? (to install OS or diagnostic tools like Memtest, MHDD etc..)

    I tried:
1 format USB HDD, create the FAT32 partition and make active, copy the files, for example, ISO image of Windows 7 (I also tried bootsect/nt60), but when I reboot and choose from the menu of boot USB HDD it stops after "Verifying DMI pool data".

  • can of boot from hard drive (bootable on Dell 8500) on Dell 8700

My XPS 8500 had a problem of MB/CPU, then bought a new 8700, but when I move the 8500-hard disks (good) 8700, but 8700 can't see the OS on 8500 hard drives (Windows and Linux), can I configure 8700 BIOS to make the hard drive of 8500 bootable on 8700? If possible, how? Thank you.

8500 XPS BIOS is default of type "Legacy", while the XPS 8700 is default "UEFI".

You can try to change the BIOS on the XPS 8700 to inheritance (and/or the Legacy OPROM option). And you should probably disable Secure Boot too.

That said, the 2 systems have very different processors and chipsets, so you will not be able to boot from the old HDD without having to reinstall Windows.

Why don't you just try to install the old HDD as secondary in the XPS 8700 drive so player you can save your files? And then install all your Windows software on the new HARD drive that came in the XPS 8700?

  • No BIOS for USB support? Can't boot from USB HDD

    Hello

I was trying to install two operating systems (Linux, Windows Vista CTP) on my external hard drive (USB 2.0, Firewire). And I can't seem to-because he doesn't seem to be a way to specify the support of USB devices in your boot sequence. It seems that the configuration of the BIOS is limited to these 5 icons of basic (no text below the same you know what they represent) - that seem to hold to drive HARD, CD/DVD, network, etc., but none of the USB hard drives (I don't think the FDD account)?

For example, install Windows Vista complains that the BIOS does not support boot from my external hard drive - Linux does.

    Or am I missing something...?

  • HP Pavilion 500-210 QE cannot boot from any hard drive.

Good evening. As you can see on the subject, my computer just cannot boot from any hard disk that I put on it. I tried swapping the power supply, SATA cable, reset the BIOS, allowing the start legacy, changing to AHCI to IDE and RAID...

When I get to the BIOS Setup, I see the hard drive and its features, but it will not start or show when I am trying to install a new OS. I'm not an expert, but I think that the problem could be in the motherboard SATA ports, but I'm not sure. Just to be sure, I tried another harddrive and it did not work as well.

I was also thinking to buy a HDD external and installation of my OS on it, but I don't even know if it is possible and I would really like to have my computer working again.

    Thank you for your attention!

Ok. That doesn't say that it is very likely that the motherboard has problems.

    Contact HP for warranty repair.

  • Qosmio E10-102 - cannot boot from CD/DVD

    Hello

I have a laptop Qosmio E10-102 here. The hard drive is missing and I need to install the operating system on a new hard drive but I can't boot from CD/DVD. After the start of Qosmio screen, it shows "insert system disk in drive. Press any key when ready... ».

When I press F1, I get the 1.5 version of BIOS ACPI boot menu, but I can't change date, time and the password. The boot priority is HDD-> FDD-> CD and I can't change it. The manual says to hold F12 during initialization, but this has no effect. Even by pressing the 'c' key, the disc does not start.

I tried to put the hard drive in a laptop and install there, but detects the Windows installation disc, that's not Toshiba laptop.

    No idea how to fix?

    Hi Napto,

The CD/DVD drive is correctly listed in the BIOS? You see the model number of your player? Usually, this should be possible

And what installation disc, you are starting? You use Microsoft disc or Toshiba Recovery disk?
Maybe the current disc is scratched

  • NB510 - boot from the SD card?

    Hello

I have a question related to booting from SD cards.
As my NB510 has no optical device, I thought to use an SD with Linux on it to boot from.

The reason is that sometimes I need Linux and I don't wan to lose my Windows partition or another partition of my HDD with a 2nd OS.

My experience is that more than one OS at a disk always causes unnecessary trouble.
Unfortunately, it seems that the NB510 does not boot from the SD card.

I created it with the Toshiba SD Memory Format Utility and "UNetbootin" to create a card with the last OpenSUSE Linux.

When, in from the laptop and press F2 (or F12), all available drives be filed - but not my SD card (Yes, it was inserted). BIOS Insyde H2O also doesn't seem to provide the SD card as boot drive.

So is it possible to get my NB 510 booting from SD card?

    Greetings from the Germany

    Hello

Why you boot from the USB flash key t n?
As much as I know the NB510 support the start of disk HARD primary, Network (LAN), USB, USB HDD and USB WEIRD memory.

If booting from USB is certainly possible.

  • Re: Satellite NB10T-A-101 - cannot boot from USB key

    Hello

I bought a new Toshiba Satellite NB10T-A-101 and want to improve performance by changing the HDD with a SSD and install windows Pro 8.1.

However, I am unable to boot from USB, it always mention:
+ Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. +

I already disabled secure, used 5 + usb startup different sticks (work fine on other laptops).

Can you please tell me what the approach is to change the HARD drive and then boot from a USB bootable (UEFI).

    Thank you.

    Hello

Laptop Satellite NB10T-A-101 was equipped with an Intel CPU 2810 n which is part of the new Intel Bay Trail-M platform.

This new technology Intel Bay Trail allows installation of UEFI capable systems:
    Win 8 or 8.1 Win

    Just a few questions:
Have you already changed the HARD drive to SSD drive?
If so, the new SSD is recognized in the BIOS?
Have you tried to boot from the USB flash memory stick 8.1 Win until you changed your SSD drive?

  • How can I boot from USB - Portege A200

    Hello

I have a Portege A200 which is only a couple of years, but the hard drive no longer works. Initially, I thought that this was due to corrupt the boot disk record, but after trying to replace the drive hard (with two different readers), is showing a #0 IDE error when starting. So I came to the conclusion that the IDE controller chip is dead.

In order to get labour latop, I burned a cd with the ubunto ISO. It starts off ok but due have only 512 MB of RAM, the system is somewhat limited and nothing installed is lost each time that I reboot.

Now, I bought a 2 GB flash drive and installed ubuntu on it. My other problem is that there seems to be no boot from USB HDD or USB option in the bios.

The options I can think of are:
    (1) Upgade the bios so that it supports the start of memory stick (although no HARD drive so do not know how I could reflash the BIOS or if there is even an upgrade of the BIOS that would support this feature)
    (2) create a cd that starts the boot process then tells the system to continue the initialization of the USB key (this is possible and does anyone know where I might be able to get these software)
    (3) boot from CD but the use of USB to keep any recorded information / everything installs etc (I suppose that similar to option 2 except the cd would manage the entire OS and USB would just "extra" information)

If there are other options if someone may think I am happy to give them a go. Seems a shame to have to chuck to a laptop that is not particularly old, because the IDE controller chip has failed on the mobo.

I have apppriciate any help anyone can offer.
    Thank you very much
    Mark

    Hello

First I have to say that it of not possible to boot from the external USB device as USB, CD/DVD USB drive or USB HDD.
It of only possible to boot from the external USB FDD (floppy) disk

However, no opportunities for startup are clear, but I think that you misunderstood the IDE #0 error message. According to m that the IDE controller is not defective but only the new drive HARD is not compatible and not recognized by the BIOS.

There are different reasons for this problem
For the most part this error message appears if the HARD drive master/slave/c-salt settings are not correct.
Generally these settings don t need to be changed or switched on the 2.5 hard disks but some hard drives support a rider that needs to be fixed in the correct position. But I put t if your HARD drive supports this

In addition, the size of HARD drive isn't is not compatible could be the reason for these error messages!
I would recommend so finally communicating with ASP in your country to get a new, compatible HARD drive and see if the same error still occurs.

    Good luck
