HP Pavilion 500-210 QE cannot boot from any hard drive.

Good evening. As you can see on the subject, my computer just cannot boot from any hard disk that I put on it. I tried swapping the power supply, SATA cable, reset the BIOS, allowing the start legacy, changing to AHCI to IDE and RAID...

When I get to the BIOS Setup, I see the hard drive and its features, but it will not start or show when I am trying to install a new OS. I'm not an expert, but I think that the problem could be in the motherboard SATA ports, but I'm not sure. Just to be sure, I tried another harddrive and it did not work as well.

I was also thinking to buy a HDD external and installation of my OS on it, but I don't even know if it is possible and I would really like to have my computer working again.

Thank you for your attention!

Ok. That doesn't say that it is very likely that the motherboard has problems.

  • (Redirected) Cannot boot from the HARD drive on dell n5010 with SSD and HARD drive installed

I have my old dell n5010 (15R Inspiron) with SSD (Samsung EVO 840 120 G) installed on the main drive Bay and the HDD (Samsung HJJ 500 G) on the optical drive Bay.

It is a typical way to add an SSD on such an old laptop (bought from dell.com.cn in 2011).

My Windows 10 operating system has been installed on the SSD using Samsung Data Migration software, so the previous C drive was pointless. So I formatted and installed an operating system Ubuntu 14.04 on it, hoping the grub OSs double beginning located on the HARD disk.

However, I find no the Dell bios boot option to boot from the HARD drive installed in my optical drive Bay. All the choices are 'Hard Drive', 'Network' and 'Diagnostic '.

But I was definitely sure that my bios program has detected the SSD and HDD with information on the main menu of the bios.

And the LED on the optical drive Bay was immediately once I pressed the Start button on my laptop.

As a general rule, all things were right except for options of the bios boot.

Is there a way I can boot from HDD (with installed Ubuntu) while remaining has my SSD on the main drive Bay? I don't want to swap their positions, because the SSD is super fast on the main drive Bay.

I have alse won't migrate 10 Windows to the HARD drive and reinstall Ubuntu on the SSD, because I'd like my windows be loaded quickly.

  • Cannot boot from the HARD drive in AHCI on Satellite C mode

I tried to get this satellite working for these past two weeks. I think I've tried all of the suggestions I found on this forum and others.

My problem: I can not boot from drive c: in AHCI, only in compatibility mode. I can boot from the D: (recovery partition) in AHCI mode. When the recovery is complete, and when it gets to the first reboot, try to boot from the system newly created on the C:, I return the compatibility mode.

I replaced the drivers on the C: drive.

I extracted the AHCI drivers and copied in the root of a USB bootable. I try to do a clean install of windows 7, I get to where it shows the partitions. He tells me that it can not load the system on any of the partitions, I the AHCI mode (if the mode is set to compatibility it will load the system in one partition).
I select "load drivers" and select the driver in the root directory, it loads the driver and then reports that it can not load the system on any of the partitions.

I'm puzzled. I acquired pilots everywhere, the last set of drivers I used to try to do a clean install, I have acquired the Canadian official Toshiba site.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Satellite Pro A120 - cannot boot from CD/DVD drive

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 of friends, he was running very slow so I said I'd do the usual for him.
Back up all his documents, and then reinstall windows. not so easy!

First of all, try to boot from the CD so I can boot into Ubuntu or reinstall windows.
Me has taken long enough to work, I had to press DEL/ESC to enter in the BIOS, but once I put to boot from the CD (and was a bootable CD in the drive), it kept just boot from the HARD drive.

From time to time I get an error saying + "Media test failure - check cable" + or something similar, theres a lot on internet on this subject.
I think its something to do if the boot order has CD first, then it has LAN as 2nd.

Able to boot Ubuntu from a USB key.
Try to copy its documents on my external drive but really copying REALLY slow (like 1 MB/s) and kept getting IO errors on some files.
I can't run diagnostic software for HARD drive that I can not boot from the CD (could get the Ultimate Boot CD on a USB but if anyone thinks it would help?).

In windows, the CD player only reads real CD (audio similar DVD, not CDR and DVDR).
    This means a failing drive?
What intrigues me most, however, is that I changed the portable CD player with a CD of work of another computer and windows recognize today this new CD player at all!

By putting a bootable CD in this new CD player, it always starts from the HARD drive (do not recognize CD player in all).
The BIOS is a bit unnecessary and does not show the detected disks...

Also, boot Ubuntu from a USB key, with the original CD player, he reads real CD and DVD copied of all zeros are considered blank discs and replace the CD drive with a known working in Ubuntu means its not recognized at all (if this isn't windows driver problems).

When I started messing around with it I remember windows say the time had been reset, so I set the time properly, then he did the same thing again I think. A flat CMOS battery could not be responsible for this?

Is the motherboard and specifically the IDE controller or a broken ports, or am I doing something stupid? I'm tempted to just install Ubuntu by USB and tell him not to bother with CD more ;^)

Any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated!

    Thank you
    Dan Gent

    > Me has taken long enough to work, I had to press DEL/ESC to enter in the BIOS, but once I put to boot from the CD (and was a bootable CD in the drive), it kept just boot from the HARD drive.
You see the CD/DVD drive in BIOS? I mean all the details like the name WEIRD etc.
If this isn't the case, then it means that your CD/DVD drive is not recognized by the BIOS due to a hardware problem.

If you can see the STRANGE in the BIOS but are still not able to boot from any disk, then I suppose that the CD/DVD drive cannot read the disk for different reasons.
One of the reasons could be a defective or damage the laser lens

    > Every so often, I would get an error saying "Media test failure - check cable" or something similar, theres a lot on internet on this subject. I think its something to do if the boot order has CD first, then it has LAN as 2nd.

Yes, this error means that your laptop tried to boot from LAN

    > In windows, the CD player only reads real CD (audio similar DVD, not CDR and DVDR). This means a failing drive?

As I said above, it would be possible that the reader s laser lens malfunctions and, therefore, the ODD can't handle the media. It seems that the laser lens can not calibrate properly and can not move in the correct position. This question is not repairable and the drive needs to be replaced.

    > What intrigues me most, however, is that I changed the CD drive with a CD of work of another laptop and windows don't recognize this new CD player at all!

The fact is that not all CD/DVD drives are compatible due to different master/slave/C-salt settings. You must use the supported players! In most cases, you can find a list in your user manual what CD/DVD readers are compatible.

  • Satellite M30X-165 only boot from a hard drive possible

Today, I tried to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 but no media like CD/DVD bootable and works of disk removable (USB key).

Notepad only boots from hard drive.
With F12 I have a start menu, but no matter what I select that does not work and Windows XP boots from the hard drive. Later, I changed the boot sequence in the bios, but it does not work.

Finally, I did a bios update 1.60 zu 2.00 but I still have the problem.
How can I boot from DVD or USB stick?

Try please enter the BIOS and set it to default settings. After doing this, try again please.
Optical disc drive recognized and listed correctly in the BIOS settings?
It works when you use it in Windows?

Also try another thing. Put the bootable disc in ODD and shut down your laptop. Reboot and press the C key several times. If I m remembering well this should force ODD as first bootabe.

  • Z575 will not boot from the hard drive or restore DVD

Need help on a laptop Z575 age of 2 years that immediately after an automatic update of windows, will not start either from the hard disk or restore DVDs (blue screen). Does not start in safe mode, not booting from a rescue of third party DVD. Attempt to start, it will show you the ability to start the Startup Repair tool. Repair shows that it is unable to fix with the detail following problem error messages:
Signature of the problem 1: 6.1.7600.16385
    Signature of problem 2: 6.1.7600.16385

    Signature of the problem 6:7
Signature of the 7 problem: bad driver
    OS version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1

Normally think that the hard drive has failed or that windows update caused a software problem, but the inability to boot from any restore disk that makes me think that there is another serious problem with the hardware of the laptop.

Any help would be appreciated. THX

Additional note: when you try to boot from a restore disc, blue screen, error message:
    Stop: 0x0000007B (0xF78DA640, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
It is a hardware failure that cannot be restarted soft.

I also removed the hard drive and RAM, reinstalled and rebooted, no change.

Additional note: I was able to access the hard drive with a recovery of old program, focused on the (SpaceFM) ram charged through the DVD player. Hard drive data appears intact. Still does not start from the hard disk or a DVD of windows system.

Thank you. Rather than buying a 4 GB or more large key USB comes from put this into hard drive replacement. Installed correctly, boots very well now. No other error of the optical drive... and no explanation I can see, but that's it.

Unless something else pops up we'll just call cela a HARD drive failed after 2 years of common use. Thanks again.

  • 8000 elite: try to boot from the hard drive

After placing a ssd, I get this notification. nothing else happens.

I checked the bios, but I noticed that I can not change the boot sequence (ssd hard drive first, the other second place) so I changed the sata cables too the ssd is the startup disk.

    someone who can help?

the ssd already has an operating system installed

Sorry, from your description, I thought you might have "migrated" Win10 from the HARD disk to the SDS, and when people do this by copying partitions, they almost always forget migrate partition, including the bootloader files.

So you did a clean install of Win10 for the SSD?

If this is the case, you might be able to fix it by running the win10 installation media startup repair.

To do this, you will need to use the link to the installation media to download Win10 and burn a DVD or create a USB key: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10

Note that when you download and build install media, the default tool corresponding to what is already installed on your PC (as in home for the House, and 64-bit to 64 - bit).  While you CAN change these settings, are NOT.  If you do, the media that results will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code.

Then, follow these instructions to run the Startup Repair tool: Doing - Startup Repair

You may need to do this same series of steps three times.

    Good luck

  • HP Pavilion dv6t-7000: want to boot from the cd drive, but can't get the UEFI bios

I try to perform a simple boot from a CD/DVD on my HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 portable player.

After I bought it, I divided the hard drive into two partitions, is win8.1 and the other win7.  I tried the boot menu (by pressing ESC when it first starts) and the possibility to enter the BIOS.  However, he will just immediately go back to the start menu, inviting you to select win8.1 or win7.

Pretty frustrated at this point.    I watched a video on youtube where the guy said go to the bios UEFI and toggle the settings, but I can't even BIOS.  Shouldn't UEFI recognize that there is something in the CD/DVD drive and ask if you want to boot from it?      Thanks for all answers

After tapping Esc and get boot F9 menu-tap Options. Use the arrow key to move down and highlight / select the CD/DVD and press ENTER.

  • L10W satellite cannot boot from any device

    Background;
I bought this laptop for my daughter, a she used it for several months.
Two days ago, she got the message "reboot and select appropriate media.
Given that the laptop is not under warranty, and I am in this area for a long time I decided to tackle the problem myself.

Opened the case, removed the hard drive, plugged into my office.
Standard battery of tests, no problem found. The reader looks perfect.
To be a good side, I made a trip to a local store and got new hard drive.

    Plot:
Installed the HARD drive in the laptop, connected my USB DVD with Win8.1 and got the same
message "reboot and select proper support."

In the BIOS, we will. BIOS is so rudimentary that it does not show if she has connected disk.
Reboot, F12 (boot sequence) - shows both drives but does not start.
Copy DVD USB with the windows tool.
Once again "reboot and select appropriate media.
F12 shows hdd and usb but "reboot and select proper support.
Insert the floppy disk in another laptop. Run install. smooth.
Back to L10 and you guesse it-"reboot and select appropriate media.

    Question:
What the * ell is happening? Can anyone help?

I know this is an old post... is 'safe start' enabled in the firmware (BIOS) UEFI? If this is the case, it will be a security check before you load a previously defined in the firmware operating systems.

Also, I'm interested in how you have replaced the hard drive. Is it easily accessible? I removed all the screws, I can see on the back of my friends, but can not get the cover off.
    Advice would be appreciated.

  • Portege R100 boots from the HARD drive - lack of operating system

    Hello

I have a Portege R100 which won't the HD boot, I get the message "missing operating system".
I don't have a compatible CD or floppy, I just about 1.8 inches for the hd, it works and I also have norton ghost 2003 is installed in another computer (a toshiba satellite A45).

I tried to recover the drive with the help of norton and the image of the Ghost in the recovery CD, but it keep asking for a password.

I would like to know if there is a way to use the restore with norton CD and usb driver and password screen (or where I can get the password?).

    Thank you!

    What password do you mean?

and what recovery CD do you use? The image on the Toshiba Recovery CD is locked and cannot be extracted.

It turns out that you cannot start or install the OS on the USB key!
You must boot from the CD/DVD compatible player that can be connected to the PC card slot.
