Boot from the external drive via eSATA
Hi all
I have an external drive which I'm currently starting as a USB device. The outside also has an eSATA port that I want to be able to boot from. However, when I go into the bios boot area to choose the boot order, there is no option to start using eSATA, USB only. The Port of the computer's eSATA/USB port.
This is so my question, how can I get the bios boot option to be able to select an eSATA?
Thanks for the help
From what I can find, HP didn't include the option to boot from the port eSATA on this computer.
Many others have asked about this on the HP forum.
I would check with HP support, however, since it is the BIOS that must support this function.
Windows cannot change it.
See this thread.

Vista boot from the external drive
Dear Sir.
I recently installed a new hard drive in my Lenovo x 300 laptop and I'm now running Windows 7. The original hd with Vista, I moved into a box external usb drive, but which fails to start (blue screen after display of the famous Green startup progress bar).
I think that Vista is lack drivers for my usb drive. Is it possible to make this work?
Thank you
Joeri
You can not boot Vista from a USB key. You can leave a disk external eSATA connected to a SATA port, if you have a.
If you do not have a SATA port or do not want to buy an external SATA drive enclosure, you can virtualize Vista system and the VHD can reside on any drive. You can use VMWare for virtualization. See their website for details and the software.

Of failure, white screen MacBook Pro HARD drive try to boot from the external HARD drive
Hello
I have a 2008 Macbook Pro which is having some problems, I was able to fix them, but eventually the hard drive failed. I know that because at startup until it would have a white screen Uni (no logo) and you can hear a clicking on in the lower left corner. I thought initially it was a memory problem, but after opening and verification of memory, it's clearly the hard drive.
I solved this problem temporarily (until I can replace the HARD disk) by installing El captain on an external HARD disc and start from that. Here's the twist, I couldn't he can begin to El captain, I tried CMD + R, CMD + OPT + R, CMD + OPT + R + P and now shift. Everything that's happened would be that clicks would cease to release the keys.
I left the macbook on while I'm at work, when I got home it was on the screen to connect the external HARD drive.
I accidentally closed the macbook yesterday and again once when I tried to log on, I could not and I left it on a white screen while I was sleeping. There is a possibility that he may have launched from the HARD drive when I get home, but if not, is there something that escapes me to force do this?
See you soon
Usually start up to a blank screen without the Apple Logo, may report one of the following:
- Hardware failure
- Boot drive is not recognized as valid and updated updated
- OS X essential software is missing, hurt moved or renamed or corrupt
- A firmware update is necessary
No matter who, in order to boot from an external drive "bootable", you would normally hold down the Option key until you get a screen that offers a number of devices to try to boot from.
Alternatively, you can try holding down the C key to try to boot from the external drive.
If none of these startup options work, then the bootable disc or the USB port on your MacBook Pro can be the question.
Since you have a Mac pre-2013, if you hold down the D key while booting, the built-in Apple Hardware Test should start up. This can help to identify hardware problems.

Boot from the external USB CD/DVD drive is not possible.
You will also be able to boot from USB HDD!If you want to boot from the CD, you must use a compatible PCMCIA cards (16-bit and 32-bit Cardbus) CD/DVD drive.

Help, please...
Hi dynamitenews
1. are you able to boot to the desktop?
2. what happens when you try to start the computer? You must have the DVD drive to start the computer using the disk, you cannot use the external hard drive to do the same thing.
Also I suggest you to make sure you have defined the start as CD/DVD-Rom as the first choice option in the BIOS. See below the help link-
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/BIOS-frequently-asked-questionsIf nothing is done, then you can contact the manufacturer support for assistance on setting up the correct boot sequence and check.

My iMac can boot from an external drive?
Hello
I have an iMac 21.5 "Mid 2010 which starts to show its age with slowness. However, I plan to upgrade the Basic 4 GB of Ram either 8 GB or 16 GB of Ram, depending on price... and my main question. I know that the Mac came initially with a 500 GB hard drive and I would also like to upgrade to an SSD because they make a world of difference from what I've heard, but I don't have the level of skill tech to do the steps together 20-30. I wonder, as I have a 1 TB USB SSD externally, if I could install a new version of Mac OS X on the SSD USB and then set it as my boot drive and just keep still plugged. Would this work or startup disk must be internal rather than external via USB?
Your iMac can be set to boot from an external drive. Just install OS X on the SSD and SSD drive as your boot disk in System-> startup disk Preferences.

Boot from the 2nd drive HARD modular bay adapter (satellite P20)
Hello
I have a SP20-102 and I replaced the stock model with a 120 GB Seagate HDD and moved the original disc in a Module Bay HDD adapter.
Is it possible to configure things so I can choose which HARD drive to boot from at the start, i.e. it is by default on the internal HARD drive but I can't choose to boot from the HARD drive in the modular Bay?
I tried pressing F12 to boot device selection screen, but am unable to choose the 2nd HARD drive.
Any ideas?

It's one of the problems, the bios, the parameter does not have the ability to boot from the CD/DVD.
There are only three choices:

boot from the hard drive to laptop or computer ethernet startup.
I also have uppdated the bios, but nothing changes.
'Notebook multibay shoes' should work - the CD is installed in the multi-baies slot.

Satellite 5100 503: unable to boot from the CD drive
Hey all,.
I have a HUGE problem with my 5100-503 Satellite.
Windows XP connects and then it disconnects right away.
I found a fix for this at: [url] http://www.mcse.ms/message616432.html {/ url}
The problem is that I can not boot from a cd, because the BIOS is configured to boot from the hard drive first.
I get into the BIOS. I read on a few websites on the net than on machines 5xxx Satellite, you can only enter the bios through windows! ..., BUT windows does not work so I can't enter the bios. I can't even use the Windows installation CD when I boot, because once again the HD is set to boot first.
When I press ESC while turning on the laptop and then press F1, I have the option load default BIOS values. I did, but the HD is still set to start first!
What I can do... I can't reinstall windows or get into regedit to fix the paper / log problem!
Help!
Hi Jamie,
Normally, you can select a boot device selection menu when you turn on your laptop. You can do this by holding down the F12 key when you turn on. Hold it down until the phone beeps or the device selection menu appears.
If this does not work then you can try the shortened Toshiba habit that is to hold the 'C' button in the power that would then cause the laptop to boot from the CD drive. Of course, there must be a bootable CD inserted first.
Kind regards

boot from the flash drive on a dimension 3000
XPSP3, completely up to date, 3000 dell dimension
I have booted from the flash drive once a long time ago and I have still now because my cd player is not good according to imgburn and dell did not buy, I looked. :)
The only question about it in my search for this forum was 10 years ago, and the op had no satisfaction.
I took action: drive startup laptop computer (dell), so that's good, will load files on the 3000 and then reach the point Windows starts up, and then I get a blue screen 07 b, any file in the list, just telling me to uninstall a driver or a controller, I have not installed one, :)
any ideas?

I have my old dell n5010 (15R Inspiron) with SSD (Samsung EVO 840 120 G) installed on the main drive Bay and the HDD (Samsung HJJ 500 G) on the optical drive Bay.
It is a typical way to add an SSD on such an old laptop (bought from dell.com.cn in 2011).
My Windows 10 operating system has been installed on the SSD using Samsung Data Migration software, so the previous C drive was pointless. So I formatted and installed an operating system Ubuntu 14.04 on it, hoping the grub OSs double beginning located on the HARD disk.
However, I find no the Dell bios boot option to boot from the HARD drive installed in my optical drive Bay. All the choices are 'Hard Drive', 'Network' and 'Diagnostic '.
But I was definitely sure that my bios program has detected the SSD and HDD with information on the main menu of the bios.
And the LED on the optical drive Bay was immediately once I pressed the Start button on my laptop.
As a general rule, all things were right except for options of the bios boot.
Is there a way I can boot from HDD (with installed Ubuntu) while remaining has my SSD on the main drive Bay? I don't want to swap their positions, because the SSD is super fast on the main drive Bay.
I have alse won't migrate 10 Windows to the HARD drive and reinstall Ubuntu on the SSD, because I'd like my windows be loaded quickly.
Someone at - it the same problem with me?
Any suggestion is appreciated!
