    Help, please.

It's quite a few updates failed.  This can be linked to the issue, but we don't know really until the update problem is resolved.

Read this document to Microsoft as it addresses this particular error.  It also has various tools to try in case the first option does not correct the problem.

You can also try the Windows Update troubleshooting utility included in Windows 7.

  • Boot problems after installing Vista SP2 (KB948465)

I installed SP2 via update.  During the update process there was a power failure.  After that (I don't remember if it's immediately after, or if a few days elapsed) I had problems with the startup.  Initially, seemed the Startup Repair to fix the problem, but not permanently, and the Startup Repair had to be used repeatedly just to start.

After a few times of what is happening, Startup Repair did not turn, and the PC wouldn't start.  After about 5 attempts using the decision-making power, sometimes choose the Startup Repair, sometimes choose to load windows normally, he did start.
I immediately did a system restore to return my PC before SP2 was installed.

After the restoration of versions prior to SP2, Windows Update showed that the SP2 update failed.  It was on 9 November.  As I need my computer, I didn't reinstall SP2 until I had finished this work.

As I thought that the problem is probably caused by the power outage, on 10 September, I reinstalled SP2.  Windows Update show no SP2 as an available update, then I downloaded and installed the standalone update.

Between the 10th and today, 14, Windows Update has installed more than updated.

Today, I was unable to start for the first time since the reinstall SP2 and Startup Repair has allowed me to open a session.
I tried to uninstall SP2 via update.  The first part of it seemed to work, but when it came to reboot, the PC stopped at the end power to the bottom of the procedure.  I used the power switch to turn the PC back on.  After startup, the PC told me that deletion failed.

Then I tried the system restore.  Unfortunately, the first available restore point was post - SP2 installation.  I restored it for the point that is as close as I could.  I tried to uninstall SP2 again through Windows Update.  This time, I receive a generic error message immediately (less than a second) - it does not attempt to go through the configuration - restart the procedure.

I haven't restarted my PC since then.  Most updates have been downloaded automatically, and the PC tells me that a restart is required.  I'm a little worried that I will end up with a completely insensitive PC.

I use an Acer Aspire X 3200 with Vista home premium pre-installed.  I don't have a Vista disc.

    Thank you

If you used the power switch, you can inadvertently damage your file system, so before wasting time to try a bunch of things, I could do this (or you may be wasting a lot of time to try things too):

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination? (This includes the plug pulling, buttons power and removing the battery).

These can cause corruption in the file system that must be fixed before you do anything else.

If none of these events occurred (or even if they have not taken place), you must verify the integrity of your file system before anything else (especially "try" things).

There is zero logic to begin to try to begin to try to modify or copy files to a hard drive that has a corrupted file system, so this must first be fixed using the XP chkdsk program and run chkdsk on your hard drives may solve your problem completely.

Use the XP Recovery Console to check the file system on your HARD drive and fix the problems and then try to start your system - this may be all you need to do.  Or, you are welcome to just start trying things that might work.

Boot into the Recovery Console Windows using an XP bootable installation CD.

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget.

This is not the same as recovery disks that may have come to a store to purchase the system.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    xp_rec_con. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the prompt of commands or read on here XP Recovery Console:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_console_cmds.mspx?mfr=true

A good idea before you start things must first verify the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.

It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

  • Satellite L300D-12U - two problems after installing Ubuntu Linux

    Hello

    I installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my brand-new u. Satellite L300D-12
So far, everything works fine, but there are two things bother me.

    1. I have problem with suspends to RAM. It does not work. If I use the option to boot, the screen goes black but the laptop is still running (you can hear it).
In addition, nothing happens when I press the power button to exit the sleep option.
I completely close the laptop and restart to be back in Ubuntu.
Maybe someone has some ideas how I can fix the problem?

    My/etc/default/acpi-support have these entries:

    # Comment the following line to disable the ACPI suspend to RAM
    ACPI_SLEEP = true

    # Comment the following line to disable the suspension on disc
    ACPI_HIBERNATE = true

    # Change the following of 'sleep' to use ACPI S1 sleep, rather than S3.
    # This will save less energy, but can run on machines more
    # ACPI_SLEEP_MODE = mem
    ACPI_SLEEP_MODE = standby

    2 battery life
My current maximum battery life is 01:10 hours. On windows, it's 2 hours >. Maybe someone has some ideas of configuration to increase the time of battery under Ubuntu?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Problem after installation of Windows XP Home on Satellite L355-S7812

    Hello

I went down to WXP and after that, I have problem with the display driver. It does not work. I tried to use the Toshiba site and installation was successful, but without effect. Information about Device Manager, is that this driver is corrupted or missing. Drivers from the Intel site is not allowed to install. I have Mobile Intel 965 Chipset Family Extress.
I also have the problem with some "IDE Device" I don't know what it is.
I tied with WXP + SP2, SP3, and Windows XP Home edition. The same result.

    Help, please.

    Hello

Strange sounds, running an Intel display driver won´t. It is the first time I ve never heard for such a thing. First of all:

Installed all THE drivers of Windows XP on the Toshiba site? It's really important because there are essential tools that are the reason this machine works correctly and with his overall performance and stability.

Are installed the chipset drivers? If Yes, then I do not double because the display drivers intel today should be able to be installed on your machine.
What display driver you have installed? There are different types for the same chipset, and you should be careful when downloading these drivers for your machine. You should always look for drivers who adapt for MOBILE chipsets. In this case, you should look for the 965 Express mobile chipset.

Regarding your problem of IDE device: do you have that you have installed the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Manager? See also the Intel site for this driver and the problem should go away.

  • Boot problem after upgrade RAM on Satellite A200 - 1 DR

    Hello

I have a laptop Satellite A200 - 1 DR (with 1 GB of DDR2 RAM) and it is 5 days old. I bought an another 1 GB of Corsair RAM (DDR2 PC5300 5-5-5-12 as the first). The problem is that with both submissions the laptop not boots or boot boxes when the quiet boot option is enabled in the BIOS but windows Vista refuse to go or to restore.
I also tested the memory only Corair on the first location of memory of the laptop, and it works perfectly (vista and memtest86).

So I tried only two submissions on the second slot of memory of the laptop, and the two do not work: quiet Boot option on vista cannot go and memtest86 freeze after 1 sec. When the quiet boot option is disabled, the bios memory test freeze to 256 MB (with 2 memories it freezes at 512 MB).

To me there seems to be a bug in the BIOS, you have any information on these bugs?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello

a man who is not a bug in the bios. Have you ever heard of compatibility problems between the memory modules? The strange thing is that the memory modules can have the same features should not work together when they are not compatible with each other.
You have two different manufacturers using different modules and pcb´s (printed circuit board).

So if you're going to tell me what manufacturer's stock module I'll tell you that they are not compatible because I really know that privateers work right and good when you install corsair two modules (or how I want to say. TWO MODULES OF THE SAME MANUFACTURER).

This is it and it s the same story in desktop computers. I have two desktop computers in my office at home and one of this for overclocking. I had a lot of modules in my machine, so I had a lot of problems at the time of the twinning of the two different modules. And that's the thing why I tell you this, because I really have knowledge about this thingys. :)

Just buy an another corsair modules and put your stock on ebay module. You will see how your machine will work. Or better, bring back the corsair, sell your stock on ebay module and buy a pair of the best modules from kingston, you can get since the modules have absolutely no problems with compatibility.

That's my opinion. And nothing to do with a few bugs of bios or something else...

This version of the bios seems to me to prevent the loading of Grub2.

Can you help me to solve it?

That's exactly what I did before:

    (1) linking boot-repair a liveUSB / recommended repair.

    (2) press ESC during startup / press F9 / select Ubuntu in the boot menu / start Ubuntu / run Startup Repair / recommended repair.

In the case that grub won't load and windows starts.
