Boot VHD is slow

I had not had this problem for weeks, but all of a sudden, my boot VHD of Win7 Ultimate has become slow. Programs to suspend several minutes before anything is done. Is this a problem with the virtual hard drive?

I love Windows 7 but I don't want to upgrade to Windows 8 until I really test.

My question is: I want to install my old version of vista home in the .vhd drive & upgraded to windows 8 pro and dual-boot it.

    Would this work?

    Thanks for your suggestions.

    Hello

If I understand correctly you have a copy of Windows Vista, registered as a virtual hard disk (.) VHD) and you want to upgrade Windows 8 and install it on the computer windows 7 as a dual-boot configuration. Am I wrong?
I would like to mention that on the installation of Vista or Window 8 as a dual boot on Windows 7 is a valid task. However, all the Windows 8 installation on older operating systems like Windows Vista should be a custom installation of Windows 8 and Vista cannot be upgraded to Windows 8.

  • Very slow start and run for Dell Inspiron 6400 XP times

"I have a problem with an Inspiron 6400 brought to ' horribly slow start and run time.  XP Pro 32 bit SP3 patched up to date.  Cleaned up a lot of "undesirable", as the partially uninstalled programs, cleaned the files temporary etc. with CCleaner, cleaned and optimized the registry afer all the cleaning has been done, defragmented, tried to start without any of the boot files, disabled all unnecessary services and uninstalled virus checking software, (but ran several anti-virus controls) etc. - no help.   Safe Start Mode is faster, but... not at all normal - 1 1/2 minutes of screen to logon instead of close to 3 minutes.  A lot of memory (2 GB), which rises to 600 to 700 MB runnng all the stuff I've tried.  Hard drive is 1/3 used out of 120 GB with a 2 GB swap file.

One thing I'm still scratching my head over - beyond the horribly slow boot - is very slow access to files even though everything seems to work normally, but as molasses in January.  Looking at the performance of the Task Manager tab when I run a copy of a file (whether via a cmd window or with Windows Explorer), I see a near max processor would be and the other with a small business.  Even if the customer says he had been getting worse for some time, after checking and cleaning of all things 'normal', my next thought was perhaps a bad disk or disk controller driver, but chkdsk ran very well (although it took hours) even if I ' d I have already updated all drivers (and even the DVD firmware and BIOS) on the Dell web site.  Oh, and I ran Dell Diagnostics (from bootable CD) updates all with no errors found.  And access to the slow file even with symptoms had max-processor occur with a copy of the file on a USB key that seems to eliminiate the hard disk, the disk controller and the pilot.

The other interesting part of the display for a file copy task manager is that the processes tab simply shows System Idle 97 to 99%, with a percentage of casual for other processes as Explorer while I see 1 max out procesor on the performance tab.  That the same copy on your desktop shows 3-4% of the CPU usage and who is with active antivirus software.  I'm almost ready to fall toward a Windows reinstall, but would like to find the real reason behind this problem of puzzle...

It of almost as if he's using PIO instead of DMA disk access, but... don't know how/where to test this.

    Look at:
    and

Solved!   Thanks for the links, especially to each other.  An old but still a goodie!

For those who have enquring spirits (and anyone else who stumbles across this thread), the primary IDE controller has been set to PIO and locked it.  Who would have thought that Windows slowly reduced the transfer speed, whenever he saw 6 errors on an IDE device until it has been reduced to PIO and then he locked it?  But the procedures described in the link of winhlp.com showed how to solve the problem.

There are actually several problems that led to the final symptoms.  According to KB817472, the Atapi.sys has been improved in XP SP2 only degrade the speed of transfer on 6 consecutive errors instead of 6 cumulative errors.  And even though everything I have (Microsoft update) was seen and showed that this area was to SP3, I found that the driver for the controller layer IDE was the SP2 version.  Someone ran sfc previously perhaps?

Oh, and I know now that the Task Manager process tab does not time processor kernal, but the performance tab.  Good to know...

Thanks again to all who have responded.  Starting at the time of connection-question now is 40 seconds.   You'll love Untra DMA mode 5.   There is still a lingering question in my mind, since I've had the same symptoms of slow copy of a file on a flash drive.  Perhaps a link in some way to the way that Windows treats a flashdrive as a "drive"...

  • installation of windows 10 in vhd on windows 7

initially I created a 30 GB vhd file and was able to install windows on it, 10 by attaching it in cmd that I removed a vhd and tried to do the same thing again and faild, when I restarted my pc and started a windows 10 installation I attached my new drive hard virtual 30 GB and could not press next... He said I can't install win 10 on this drive because it is y a lack of space.

Windows 10 seems to have a few compatibility issues with Boot VHD. Your best option is to set up a physical partition and dual boot or install on a virtual machine.

Thanks a lot, I find that my problem was in the boot sector it was broken, I formatted my hard drive completely and started around. It's all very well that now, I have windows 7 and 10 on vhd windows. Thanks in any case)))

  • New slow start of Alienware M17 R3

I just received a M17R3 of a M17R2 and noticed that the boot is much slower.

It takes about 10 seonds to most on the R2 and R3 45 seconds and it's costs boot out of box.

I have same re installed windows, but I doubt that it is a matter of windows because it remains on the circle of alienware before spinning it hits the window when windows starts to load his moment then.

I noticed in the machines of R3 SSDS have its own 'category' in the bios under m1.ssd or m2.ssd, where the old one was in Hard Drive 1 Hard Drive 2...

What could be the cause of this long boot time before windows POST... Am I missing a setting in the bios to disable the check of the history or something?

uninstall the free fall sensor control panel Kionix. This will fix your problem of slow start. :)

  • (Mid-2010) Mini Mac external speakers + Sierra

    Hello guys,.

I wonder about this new system. Since I downloaded it my external speakers have not worked. I have Aiwa speakers before 180 system. I tried to plug in the headphones or the internal speakers and nothing happens. The speakers still work b/c I hear static and I have tried plugged into themselves and I got a your hard. So my best guess is that Siri has messed up this older model Mac compatibility. So, what gives Sierra, I love so much that I have would be to demote, however there is no more Audio download of El Capitan.

Check your sound settings in system preferences. They could be eset with default values. Often just tilting head and on the output selections will 'wake up' the system.

Alternatively try a Starter course if the above does not help.

  • Connection keyboard and mouse USB Wired stall

    Hello

My computer repeatedly interrupts the connection to my Wired USB mouse and keyboard.  Usually around one every 30 seconds, the connection falls for 1 to 1.5 seconds, then comes back.  Meanwhile, the cursor hangs - I can't click anything, and I can't press any keys on the keyboard.  For example - when I type, I have my keyboard will stop working for a while, and no text will appear.  This is particularly problematic when I play games.

I tried to reboot the computer, reset the SMC and the mouse and keyboard.  I also tried all USB entries on my mac (4 in total), and the problem persisted with each of them.  This leads me to believe that it is either a problem with all the USB inputs, or a software problem.

I have an iMac 27 inches, mid-2011 with OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 (specifications: 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB with 1333 MHz DDR3 memory and storage capacity of 2 TB).

I use a wired USB (Logitech G402) mouse and keyboard USB Wired (Razer BlackWidow Stealth).  I have the latest version of Logitech Gaming Software and Razer Synapse installed for support.

    I would appreciate help.

Check if there are updates available driver.

To check if the problem is with the USB to your Mac controller, test with a different keyboard or mouse.

To check the extensions conflicts, etc., try the startup mode.

  • iMac freezes after upgrade to Mac OS Sierra

I have a 27 iMac late 2009 ". After the transition to macOS Sierra, I got freeze about once or twice a day. The only way to get the system operational is again via a cold start. In this case, the pointer of the mouse still works, but otherwise, the system is not responding. I have never had this problem in 7 years using the same material, so a bit of a loss.

How much RAM you have installed? You can check in the  menu > about this Mac. Slopes of the Sierra, but barely, with 4 GB, but it really needs min. 8 GB runs correctly.

You can also try Safe Boot mode.

  • Name covering the sticker in the see column

    Hello

I recently had problems with the pictures of the column view. It seems that sometimes the name which is normally displayed on the file begins to display on top of the thumbnail of the file on the far right. It will happen usually after I moved to a new file and a new preview. I will include pictures to illustrate:

Here's an example of what it should look like:

Here is an example of the question:

The question is easy, although temporarily fixed by changing to a different display format, such as list and switch back. I'm more worried that this may be an indication of some sort of bug or problem.

All this began after I had several problems do transfers of data on three different drives, and my phone has restarted following a 'problem '. Please let me know if anyone has come across this problem before, or has any ideas about what may be the issue. I already rebooted my laptop a few times as good viewfinder also restart all leaving the laptop on... Specific computer below information:

At El Capitan OS X 10.11.6 on an older IMac this weekend, but now the buttons of Menu Apple for restart, stop, and close the session do not work.  In addition, if no apps (Safari, Mail, etc.) are closed, the entire top row menu disappears.  Shutdown is possible by pressing the button on the back of the monitor.

  • "stuttering" 12.4.3.1 iTunes problem

I installed Apple music a few months ago and have been a variety of issues since doing so. The most common (and annoying) problem, it is that iTunes now has a problem of "stutter" when he plays music is in my iTunes library on my hard drive. It is not a connectivity problem, as I am not streaming. (It's actually better when I listen to music from Apple). The problem is really bad when iPhoto is open. The minute I stop this request, the problem goes away. I did all the updates that are available. My computer works perfectly in all other aspects. I am at a total loss.

Any ideas on what could happen?

    Mac Pro (early 2009)

    iTunes 12.4.3.1

    Mac OSX El Capitan 10.11.6

    Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.66 GHz

    12 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC

For good performance with El Capitan, recommend more than 16 GB of memory, but as your question was raised only with the recent update, this is probably not the cause.

    Two things...

    1. check how much you have free space on the disk. If it is less than 15% or 20 GB, try to release more;

    2. try the startup mode course and see if it helps.

  • Mac Mini - Finder does not open

I have a Mac Mini with os x 10.10 2014.  The boot disk was almost full and the finder does not open.  I open the iPhoto and deleted the pictures and then empty the trash in iPhoto.  By logging in as a different user, I see I have ~ 1 GB of space, but when I log on my main account and admin the finder does not always open.

I read that it was a known issue:

    http://forums.MacRumors.com/threads/Finder-doesn.

It is said to remove the .plist files, but I can't get to Terminal to do.

    Please advise, thank you!

    Edmund

If you were able to connect as another user, the issue is not lack of storage - this is the same computer.

Yes, your .plist file may be corrupt, or you could have an extension conflict that affects only your user account.

Try the start mode by holding down the SHIFT key at startup. Secure boot is quite slow because the operating system does a lot of cleanup and verification tasks, so give it time. Once you're completely connected, restart normally.

  • The problem with Safari.

    Hello

Sorry for my English (I'm Polish)

they have not found a solution to my problem and I'd be hard pressed to describe precisely to throw a movie describing the problem.

Namely, when I turn Safari on my dock Safari disappears and the bar settings at the top. I can't change the settings of Safari, I have no option to minimize the browser.

The dock bar and comes when I click on the free field office.

    Feature film presented with a problem-> https://youtu.be/2p2sXrPq86A

Can someone tell me how to change it, to make it like before?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Concerning

The Safari menu bar looks like Safari is in the Mode full screen (no yellow button and the menu of the Finder and the Dock disappear), but the application does not have the entire screen. Never seen that before...

    A few suggestions:

    1. click on the green button several times.

    2. check your display settings to confirm your ID to monitor using the native screen resolution;

    3. restart your computer in Mode safe.

    DAJ znać co się dzieje.
