BOOTMGR is missing (windows xp)

I have formatted my system. I try to install xp, I get this message BOOTMGR IS MISSING. Press ctrl alt del to restart. When I do the same thing, yet once I get the same message. can anyone solve this problem?
My laptop (NOTEBOOK of NOTES) is HP laptop. I use an external disk drive.

Hello

external = external CD drive?

If so, you need to connect your external CD drive with the Windows XP installation disk, turn on the laptop and go to CONFIGURATION and change of boot order, so your latop begins starting the CD player.

  • BOOTMGR is missing, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete while trying to install Windows Vista Home Premium 64 - Bit

Now that I got my 64-bit Vista in the mail and quickly install disc he jumped in my DVD player. The installation process went well until I was asked to choose which hard drive, I tried to install Vista on. I tried to format my hard drive to this screen, I was working with Vista 32 bit before that and saw no need to divide my two work machine with two separate versions of the same operating system. After formatting the hard drive, I have been unable to click on the 'next' button and engage the next step of the installation process. There was a message is displayed to the bottom of the window, as well tell a word about the installation of a machine already running windows. I would be happy to provide further information to the topic of my problems during this step, but my problems do not stop here.

After you notice the message described above and do not get farther in attempts to install later, I decided to try to reinstall the 32-bit version of Vista and then maybe try to upgrade to 64-bit. However when I put in the CD at retail, rather than receive messages at the start of a disc, I have met with the harsh reality of "BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart." Since then got trapped in a painful loop switching between disc 32-bit and the 64-bit disk in the hope that it would finally let me begin with him.

In addition to this logically faulty tactics, I also searched some online solutions. I made sure that my DVD drive is first in my boot order. My computer will not yet make Flex and give me the ability to boot from a disk.

My question is this; How can I get my computer let me boot from a disc again?

I will probably also need help to drive problem hard he, but as I can not even in a position to provide information on this issue at the time I need to have the above resolved dilemma first.

    Hey ClockworkOtter

You can't go from 32 bit to 64 bit

There must be a clean install

links below have very good tutorials on a clean install of vista

  • Reinstall windows vista is "bootmgr is missing ctrl alt delete to continue starting."

I can go beyond that by F11, but then it gives me an error message and says Setup has been interrupted and reinstall vista.  I did this install partition and backup cd provided at the time of the purchase of the laptop.  any thoughts on how to stop the boot for vista error message will continue to install at the start.

Thanks to you two.  It is an HP laptop and I first tried to reinstall vista wins from the partition and I got the error.  "I managed to do start to recovery and is Manager went to a command prompt to repair the boot record... but then it wouldn't start windows ' registry system contains invalid paths.  installation cannot continue.  This system image was applied without guranteeing the drive letter assignments would be through computers

so I ran the Recovery Manager again.  got the bootmgr is missing again.  Re-entered the recovery partition manager obtained a command prompt is bootrec repair.  so started winning again.  then I got this message. "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error.  Windows Setup cannot continue. to install windows, click "ok" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation '

I did and kept getting the bootmgr is missing message crossed the routines above several times always with the same results.  then, I got copies of the recovery cd and went through the process of using them with the same results.  I contacted hp and they say they can solve this problem for a fee because the laptop is no longer under warranty.  Think that if I obtained a copy of the cd vista Home premium and I tried the recovery that would solve the problem?  or would I be better just let hp fix?

Once again, thank you Michel and Lorien you thoughts and input.

"so I got copies of the recovery cd and went through the process of using them with the same results.

You say that you already have the correct recovery disks for your modal HP; and they do not work.

    Let HP to fix it.

You can try this and if it does NOT, go with HP way to fix it.

Borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • BootMgr is Missing in Dell Inspiron 14 / Windows 7

I recently bought an Inspiron 14 x 64 based laptop with Windows 7 64-bit OS (OEM) and receive this msg "BootMgr is Missing".

    1. it was nice at the beginning, but I attribute my hard c: drive partition is only 30 GB and readers logical is 182 GB, so I wanted an increase in C:

    2. through an Internet forum that researching "Partition Wizard Home Edition" downloaded and use it to get to a better score. It was an easy success, quickly my drive c: augmented with my desired size. But it was just a relief to short because I noticed that my IE 8, YM, Windows Media Player, Mc McAfee Security Center and others are not running properly or does not work.

    3. I resorted to a RESET to Factory Settings via a Local DELL backup that comes with my unit. He did pretty good. Everything looked exactly as it was. (I don't have to worry about my files coz I have an external modem to transfer everything)

    4. normal function is there for an hour, but my curiosity I check on disk management and TRADE-IN DRIVE discovered is that active compared to the c: drive before.  I then Mark C:Drive as ACTIVE without knowing my OS is no longer sitting there (I thought).

    5. when I restart, I got BOOTMGR is missing, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE.

6 and my problem is still not resolved, I tried to use a repair disk that I burned earlier but it does not work as well even if I choose the CD/DVD boot on startup options.

    7. what could be my best solution? My package did not come with a reinstall of Windows 7 DVD drive. My roommate has an Inspiron 1545 with reinstall drive. Can I use it to restart? I'm afraid that it could add up to another problem because it comes from a different model and configuration.

Pls. extend your help for me to be able to restart and use my new laptop once more. Download reinstall for my Inspiron 14 drive so I can finally get it? I have the serial number and necessary product code that accompanies it.

I have the same problem and stupidly, I made the same change, I can't boot from the CD, I've tried, the same message appears, any suggestions?

  • My PC does not load, I need to do a factory reset, but I can not even enter the Mode without fail because of BOOTMGR is missing. Windows 7

I'm at the stage where I should be able to load Windows. I don't care if I lose all my files etc.

I hope someone can get to safe mode or some kind of reset where I can start everything again.

    I use windows 7

    Procedure A:

    Turn on PC

    Wait,

    Motherboard ASUS screen, (ignored)

Black screen with message: BOOTMGR is missing.   Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart.

    Steps in scenario b:
    Turn on PC,

There is a screen of ASUS motherboard for less than one second,

I can press F8 or del to enter this menu.

That shows a menu, please select boot device:

    -SATA: ST30...

    -SATA: ST31...

    -Access configuration

Choose any SATA translates BOOTMGR is missing.

Enter the configuration doesn't have a lot of options and I can't access safe mode.

So I'm all out of options.

I want to do a factory reset or similar.  Please help ASAP

There's probably a way to initialize the factory restore, but it varies depending on the brand.  Let us know the brand of your computer and that we are able to help you.

On a computer Dell, for example, by pressing F11 at startup Initializes the factory restore.

  • Cannot connect to Windows 7 and after stabilizing off (cold boot), got a message bootmgr is missing.

I went ahead and shut down my computer last night as I do every night. When I got home and turned on, I got a message to connect. I've never had to do before. It's a desktop pc. I use my laptop for that. Then when I turned it off (cold boot), after that, I got a message saying that the bootmgr is missing. Then, after that, I had no choice but to do a system restore. I found one of my Seagate external drive, which took most of my info on (until it became full and I could save is nothing else). So, after I recover most of the important things, I'll buy another external hard drive to back up my info, I should have backed up before. I must have got a virus. I don't know how, if.

    Hi Dotty,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

The description of the question, I understand you are facing a problem with Windows 7 login and you also mentioned that, when you have disabled (cold boot), you got a message bootmgr is missing.

I appreciate if you could answer a few questions.

    1. What is the model of your computer?

    2. don't you make changes before this problem?

    3. you have backup DVD for Windows 7?

The most common reason for BOOTMGR is missing include boot, responsible for the initialization of the operating system are either corrupt or missing. Another reason is that if the computer is trying to boot from a hard drive or flash drive that is not configured correctly.

I suggest you follow the methods provided on the KB article below and see if that fixes the problem.

  • Help! Windows 8 bootmgr is missing

Hi guys. I got this error message "BOOTMGR is missing" after restarting my computer. Running on Windows 8 Pro and I know I can use the DVD to make the reapirs, but the problem is my DVD has just shipped out and expecting not to come any time soon this week but I urgently need to use my PC to work on the projects I'm working on that. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

  • BOOTMGR is missing in Windows Server 2008

    Hello world

One of our SQL servers became completely unresponsive while it was turned off the power.  I know, not exactly the best thing to do, but it was done and the virtual machine being powered, we get an error

BOOTMGR is missing in Windows Server 2008

CTRL + Alt + Delete to restart

I did some research and found a bunch of suggestions to boot from the image of 2008 (which I did) and then use bootmgr or fixmbr / bootrec / etc to restore the operating system.  I was able to open a command prompt, but the C:\ is not available to select and diskpart / volume of the list does not show C: as a volume, so I'm sure that it is not detected.  I don't know why it is, I thought he might have because we use the Type of controller SCSI Paravirtual, but that's just a guess

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?  I think it is a question at two levels, detect the C: and then solve the problem of bootmgr.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you.

    Thanks AFA.

Speaking with a friend system administrator, we have established that we had to the SCSI Paravirtual driver (/ vmimages/floppies/pvscsi-Windows2008.flp) so that we can detect drives when starting from the command prompt (I had a feeling that we had to do something like this, but had no idea where the driver). We were able to mount this file on the floppy drive by changing the settings of the virtual machine and then load the driver questioned during the installation of Windows 2008 / repair.

We were then able to run the following which fixed the problem

    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /rebuildbcd
    x:\sources\recovery\StartRep.exe

  • Windows Vista error - first of all 'Operting System' could not be found and now "BOOTMGR is missing?

    Hello

I am using Toshiba Satellite M300 loaded with Win Vista 32 bit form three last year, but today, when I take my laptop from sleep mode, take a lot of time to resume and then hanged. So, I decided to put it off and start it again. On the Welcome screen. It displays the message "The operating system not found" and also began a sound whenever I press any key.

Then I inserted win Vista DVD for system recovery and it does well and confirm to reboot the computer. Turning it back on, it still shows the same message. I repeated this action 3 times and got the same message. I generally save my data on an external hard drive that I decided to delete all data on the thought of portable hard drive of some viruses has blocked the operating system back if I use AVG 2011 to protect my local data.
Finally, after a few hours of the deletion of all data on the drive and I finally again restart the laptop with another error message, but this time, it is "BOOTMGR is missing" and that little gob smacking me. I think I've also cleaned the win vista my drive or not... but I confused now and looking for suggestions to move me to the right path.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Satellite Pro C650 - BOOTMGR is missing

    Hey guys,.

I bought this laptop about a week ago, and he's already giving me grief.

First, it started with BSOD nonstop with various errors, for example driver_irql_less_or_not_equal and system_service_exception being the most repeated of the two.

I've updated all the drivers, I have between the BSOD - but gave up and decided to just a new reinstall due to not having anything important saved on the HARD drive at the moment.

Install went fine - until just before that initial installation was complete - BSOD happens again with a BIOS error this time.

After the reboot of the machine - I get BOOTMGR is missing, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to restart.

Restart, brings you to an endless loop.

Entered boot options and booted from the CD player with the recovery disk, when the windows startup repair claims the problem is resolved and the machine will reboot.

Once it restarted (AGAIN) I always get that BOOTMGR is missing, press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart error.

The start I tried again - CD player, but it stalls three quarters the way through.

I am literally pulling my hair out frustrated now - any ideas what I can do from here?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

In my logic one step for you opinion is clean OS installation again.

Please make and wait until the installation of the OS will be complete. Configure the operating system and try to use it for awhile without installing any additional software. Install Microsoft updates only. Please disable the automatic installation of update and choose the option check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them.

When the updates are available to install important updates only. Do not install the optional updates, especially not driver updates.

Please send any comments that you did exactly.

    Hey,.

    > There was no CD that came with my computer, but I did a backup of the recovery discs when I turned on the laptop out of the area initially first although these discs do nothing?
This means that you have created the use Toshiba recovery media creator Toshiba Recovery disk or what did you do exactly?

This bootmgr error message means that the Windows Boot Manager is corrupt and that's why you need to reinstall Windows. You can do this with Toshiba Recovery disk which can restore the original settings of the case.

All you have to do is boot from the recovery disk and follow the instructions on the screen. All drivers and tools will be installed automatically.
