Box USB3 or SSD Thunderbolt

Hello world

Who need a few comments:

I intend to connect an external hard drive to my iMac

I think so

Crucial MX200 1 TB SATA 6 Gbit/s 2.5 "SSD internal flash drive

http://EU.crucial.com/EUR/en/ct1000mx200ssd1#productDetails

and

Inateck case 2.5 inch USB 3.0 drive hard drive external HARD drive

http://www.Amazon.co.UK/tool-free-Inateck-external-enclosure-optimized/DP/B00OB2 R2LS/ref = sr_1_2? s = computers & ie = UTF8 & qid = 1459435523 & sr = 1-2 & keywords = inateck

A friend commented that I could think of a (very expensive) thunderbolt box?

Ideas please

Stroke of lightning, or USB3 pregnant.

If lightning, which?

Many thanks and best wishes

Jim

That you intend to use for? Without this information any fundamental recommendation is difficult at best.

  • iMac 5 k: external hard drives (no SSD), Thunderbolt 2 vs 3 USB?

    Hello

I just bought a new iMac 5K with 3 t of Fusion in the car and I am looking for an external drive make backups via Time Machine. I'll go for a drive of 3 t, not SSD.

I wonder if it's worth buying a thunderbolt drive 2, as some one in a store told me that the reader go any faster than a USB 3 thanks to its native speed. Is this true? a USB 3 drive will even work or there is no difference in speed between the two devices?

    Thank you

  • Apple will add an SSD for my imac end 2012

I have an imac end of 2012. I want to add, and SSD drive to it to increase the speed of loading. I use photoshop and then CC. I really don't want to do it myself and can not find anywhere on the apple support site information they will or how long it would take. Any thoughts?

You need find an authorized service center Apple close to home first.

Go to this page, click and fill in the information in the https://locate.apple.com/package.

Apple stores won't work, but an authorized provider can. Give one of your

choice a call and see if they provide such a service.

I strongly suggest an authorized service center, because they are familiar with Apple products

Unlike a "generic" PC repair workshop

Another alternative to internal installation, would be to get a USB3 or SSD Thunderbolt

or housing USB3 or Thunderbolt and install your own SSD. Although the external hard drive

may not be as fast compared with installed internally, it will still be a major improvement

on a standard HARD drive. Install the operating system and your files on it and use on the inside as a backup.

  • Is my MacBook Pro 15 "end 2013 compatible with Thunderbolt 3 devices (if you are using an adapter)

I have a MacBook Pro 15 "end of 2013, 16 GB, 1 TB SSD, 2.3 GHz i7 running OS X 10.11.4." My SSD is maxed out so I plan to buy a box 2 Berry drive Thunderbolt and secure it with a 1 TB SSD.

I know Thunderbolt enclosure 2 still available, but lightning 3 cases are starting to hit the market. I wonder if a Thunderbolt 3 box will be compatible. Because I'll probably replace it the MacBook Pro 12-18 months and I assume - rightly or wrongly - that Apple will adopt 3 bolt of lightning on the MacBook Pro, Mac Pro and iMac during this period, I would prefer Thunderbolt 3 for scalability.

I am aware that the cables are physically different, and 3 bolt of Lightning has adopted the USB - C standard. My question is: if I buy the cable or a suitable adapter, I'll be able to use a box Thunderbolt 3? (I know there will be no performance difference; however, it is scalability).

Thunderbolt 3 is backward compatible with earlier versions of Thunderbolt.

  • iMac 14.2 HDD upgrade SSD external / internal

I have an iMac of end of 2013 with a 1 TB HARD drive. I'm looking to upgrade to a Samsung SSD, because I believe that the HARD drive is really slow. I have searched online for the best solution for this.

Does anyone have the answers to the following questions:

How it would effect the speeds, if my boot drive has been installed on an external SSD and internal HDD is used to store files?

An external SSD Thunderbolt would be faster than USB 3.0? Where's the best price to buy these items?

How Apple charge for this upgrade? What's hard to do it yourself with the right kit from OWC, bearing in mind I have some experience by removing the PC? http://www.megamac.com/Collections/Components/Products/OWC-Digital-Thermal-Senso r-with-installation-tools-for-imac-27-20...

I really feel the drive HARD don't disappoint the computer and with the benefit of hindsight, I would have been for a different option.

Any ideas would be very appreciated.

I use an external Thunderbolt sled made by Seagate for a single SSD. Around $140, I think. Search on Amazon. I/O speeds are almost that of a flash drive SSD internal.

How to use an SSD with your HARD drive

If you want to use an SSD as boot with your existing HARD disk drive, as the disk 'data', here is what you can do.

After installing the SSD, you need to partition and format the SSD using disc utility disc. Then install OS X on the SSD. Once installed OSX boot from SSD. Startup disk preferences to set up the SSD as the boot volume.

Open the preferences users and groups. Click the lock and authenticate you. Or CTRL - RIGHT click on your username account list in the sidebar and select Advanced Options in the context menu. You will see a field called "Home dir: ' on the far right, you will see an Edit button. Click on it. In the file dialog box, navigate to the location in house now located on the HARD disk (disk HARD/users/user_name /.) Select the folder, click the Open button. Restart the computer, as shown. When the computer starts, it will now use the home located on the HARD drive folder.

Another more technical method involving the Terminal and the alias is discussed in depth here: using OS X with a SSD and HDD - Matt Gemmell configuration. It's my preferred approach because I can choose which records of the House, I want to on the HARD drive and I don't want to. For example, I like to keep Documents and library files on the SSD because I frequently access their content.

Make sure that you keep the bootable system entirely on your HARD drive where you need it.

Thank you to all who help me, final problem that I put on this forum has been resolved because nice people :) all ty!

    Hey,.

Of course you can test it with your own installation of Windows, but I doubt it s a problem with the operating system preinstalled Toshiba. I mean this image is tested and configured for your laptop

In your case, I would also check the version of the firmware of your SSD. There may be an update for it.

Also, make sure that the version of the BIOS of your laptop is newer.

  • What options for a second OS on volume bootable?

I'd be interested to know what solution is best for a different OS (because of application compatibility)

Disc 1-a USB3 seems definitely too slow, at least in size 2.5 ".

2 - an external USB3 SSD would be ok?

    3. or a CF card into the CF slot would be a faster, it can be used as an SSD? (but the capacity is limited)

4 - is the SSD Thunderbolt, the only viable solution? (but expensive, and only one port is taken by the monitor and the other by the adapter Ethernet and USB3)

should 5 - or I better put the money aside to double the internal SSD capacity and have two volumes on this?

6 - the crazy part: is there a safe way to have two BONE fusion to the same user folder? Or even using the same App folder?... .probably impracticable.

  • Opening hangs opening of library

    Hardware environment:

-Macbook Pro mid-2012 w/240 GB OWC SSD

    -Display the thunderbolts 27 "

-Case of Thunderbolt external OWC with a 3 TB Western Digital hard drive and a 1.5 TB WD hard drive.

-Macbook and OWC box both connected to Thunderbolt display

    Software environment:

    -OS X El Capitan 11.2.4 beta (15E27e)

    -Opening 3.6

-190 GB managed Aperture library consisting of about 37 000 photos stored on the 3 TB drive

-Small library managed on the Macbook SSD (used on the road)

    Description of the problem:

A week ago, opening crashed while I was doing a lot of routine tasks (import, editing, cataloging). It crashed several times during each attempt to re - open until I got the warning repeated accidents indicate a problem (really?) and I need to repair the database. I did it; still crashed. I have repaired permissions. still crashed. I have rebuilt the database; still crashed. As a last resort, I created a new library and tried to perform a restore of the vault that I kept religiously updated on the 1.5 TB external harddrive, but the locked restore operation the machine about 2/3 of the way through, then, hands-free, the Macbook restarted. I have opened the new file that Aperture was trying to create during the restore operation. There was a lot of pictures that have made to the course. and many who have not.

At this point, I thought it would be a good idea to "relocate" these photographs who survived the restoration, i.e. convert them of 'successful' to 'referenced', so that if I could never open to run again I should at least have something left. Opening crashed halfway through the relocation process. I downloaded a trial version of Capture One Pro 9 and tried to import the Aperture library, but it crashed after about 8000 pictures. In short, I don't any of my 37 000 photos in Aperture!

Here's the really interesting part: if I run the opening using my MUCH smaller library on the internal SSD flash of the MacBook drive, it works very well and is stable. Opening worked very well with this library under this beta version of El Capitan for awhile before the question is asked. If I import all of your photo library, they all come, but I lose several books I have built or being designed and I lose my catalog structure.

Well, it seems that there is some sort of corruption in the largest library integrated repair tools does not detect or cannot fix. Can anyone think of a way to solve this problem outside again in the Photos app?

    -OS X El Capitan 11.2.4 beta (15E27e)

Are you El Capitan 10.11.2 Beta or Beta 10.11.4? Your version number is somewhere between the two?

If you run the 10.11.2 beta version of El Capitan, consider upgrading to the stable version current and most recent Mac OS x 10.11.3. Make stable version was released a few days ago.

A week ago, opening crashed while I was doing a lot of routine tasks (import, editing, cataloging).

What happened directly before the accidents began? You have imported new photos?

If you have imported some corrupt media, Aperture may crash trying to make previews. To check, try to launch the opening while holding the SHIFT key at startup. He'll get over the generation of previews. If you can get access to the photo library of Aperture in this way, try to export and delete the photos you last import. If one of these photos is should be the source of the problems, you may be able to repair your Aperture library after you deleted these photos.

    I partitioned the drive with 2 parts (1 part FAT32 (enabled): 930KB and 1 NTFS 1, 89 GB)

    * My problem is :*
I am not able to detect the drive by the bios (bios updated with 2.7 "bios - 20110124131826.zip"), in order, starting with partition FAT32)

    tests I've already done :*
    (1) connect this drive (WD20EARS) on a PC: HP 6530--> result b: drive is detected by the bios, it is impossible to boot the disk

    (2) plug in sametime a usb2 startup key and the disc--> result: WD20EARS disc is displayed on the selection of the bios (sometimes)
but it is impossible to start on it. When I select the drive, the USB is booting

Could you help me find the problem (bios, disk or box usb3) or have you updated to solve

    What is the best solution?

    * USB 3 SSD

    * USB 3 at 7200 RPM hard drive

Can I use two external USB 3 drives?

Can I quote the external drive so that I have no file linking issues? IE the volume name remains the same whenever I have to reconnect to it?

    * I ask here first of all because I have to buy the appropriate disks until I can test anything.

    Thanx.

USB3 for SSD is the fastest solution. Set both computers to use the same drive letter of the volume on the port USB3, for example of letter P for portable in disk management. For a second port USB3, you can use a different volume drive letter.

    Simple steps:

    1. Format the drive and give a volume name.
    2. In disk management, assign a drive letter, for example P.
    3. Connect the drive to another computer and repeat step 2 here.

The volume name remains unchanged and the drive letter remains the same on both computers.

  • 2015 Macbook Pro 2.8 GHz > 16GB RAM 1 TB > PCIe SSD > overheating with Thunderbolt Display 27 "> Constant MAX RPM fan speed

    Hello community,

First of all, I want to congratulate Apple on the construction of such a laptop well. It is a luxury product that is clearly desired by most people, which I understand very well that he's a new owner. But entering the heart of the problem that I face outside this machine being an external engineering masterpiece.

    Professional background:

I'm a computer engineer / scientist / programmer by profession. I am currently employed at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) as a Senior Consulting Engineer level IV for their BIG Data Software Division. Yes, I program (Java and c#), scripts (powershell, batch and SQL), solutions architect, design, to test software and debugging, implement large enterprise-level solutions ranging from a cluster of 2 mirrors servers-to-of thousands of servers to multiple clusters (even from a perspective of work station of the missions of deployment from 200 KB - to - 50 jobs in the world) work with SQL databases on a daily basis, working with storage devices (SAN mutli-million dollar NAS and DAS), provide an infrastructure troubleshooting and problem resolution, have 8 international recognised certifications, a degree of master of science and involved with concerts on the side as well as build computers as a hobby. My computer knowledge is vast and my RESUME goes beyond what I have briefly described. It is important that I give this background to demonstrate that my level of computer knowledge is beyond the scope of this post.

    Laptop Usecase:

Recently I bought mid-2015 Macbook Pro 15 "2.8 GHz Intel i7 quad core, AMD dedicated GPU, 16 GB of RAM, 1 Portable SSD PCIe TB from an authorized Apple dealer. To maximize the beauty of this gem, I also bought a monitor Thunderbolt Apple 27 "due to its ability to offer a dedicated gigabit NIC and additional USB connectors. Basically, the screen acts as a central docking for the laptop and offers additional i/o that does not have the laptop (somewhat a disappointment that it's called a 'PRO' for laptop - this can be discussed in an extra thread).

I will mostly use the laptop for tasks related to work as operating on dozens of remote servers via RDP, using office 2011 and 2016 Lync, Eclipse for Java programming, access the HPE intranet for related tasks at work, set up conference calls, connection with clients remotely via WebEx or TeamViewer and typical everyday computing. For fun, I'll use the laptop to compose music through Logic Pro X, browsing the Web, doing work with Photoshop/Lightroom/and other products Adobe, Web browsing, Email, Youtube, NetFlix, coding, and other basis for computing tasks.

    Question:

I am primarily an engineer Windows to the heart and don't work well with Unix/Linux, so forgive me if certain acronyms and terminology is slightly outside when it comes to the OS.

The question that I am currently facing is how HOT and high cell phone VOICE gets during very little use. It seems that, given the 27 "Apple Thunderbolt connected display cause heating and the fans to be excessive and loud. 'A little' work around the question I unplugged the lightning poster power adapter and have dedicated the trendy laptop adapter. It 'a bit' reduces the amount of heat generated, which reduces the speed of the fan to be a little less quiet. However, the noise level of fans and heat is not reduced enough to convince me!

After the control process during the time of the laptop being extremely strong and warm, I noticed the only vivid process is the process of "kernel_task". However, I debunked this theory by leaving the unit to return to a normal state, that required me disconnected the Thunderbolt display, and the process ran again without all the negative effects of heat and noise.

So, why Apple would create a laptop that indicates the external monitor is fully compatible, can support up to 2 external displays with no problems and provides a support for this configuration, if there are any other problems when connecting?

    * Please do not provide responses that I have received a bad laptop or a bad monitor. Appears not to be the case because when I am doing absolutely nothing on the machine, heat is minimal and the fans are 'enough' quiet, even when connected to the Thunderbolt display. However, even simple web browsing on the Thunderbolt display forces do MAX out fans and heat is generated quickly.

I love this laptop. His elegant, fun to work on, is luxurious and is a potential item that meets all my needs. But I just can't justify spending more than $4 K on a configuration that will cause problems and significantly reduce the lifetime of the laptop.

1 should I return the laptop and love at first sight appear and waiting for Skylake edition which will be released in the coming months (energy consumption reduced, rising in power and performance, and (?) one possible different GPU that excels much better than 'crap' AMD GPU?

    2. or should I paste and see if a solution or resolution is proposed to the issues that I am experiencing?

    3. I see the same problems all over the internet. Anyone else here has the same problems?

    4. why Apple would invest in this GPU 'cheap' for such a machine power? AMD? Really? (< (less="" than)="" $150="">

    5. How can I host a Lync call with clients when I hear more the laptop that I can hear them?

    My thoughts:

I spent $6 000.00 on the construction of an incredible machine at home. It has an Intel i7 5960 X Octa-Core processor, nVidia GTX 980, 64 GB RAM Corsair DDR4, 12 TB of disk 7200 RPM, a 512GB SSD for the OS and temporary storage, power 1200 Watt, card reader 5 in 1, a player Blu Ray optical blazing fast, liquid cooling, a Premium Asus Sound Card, the card mother 'best!' on the market (I finished this statement that fans just went back to MAX RPM0 - maybe) because I'm throwing my personal build an Apple forum?), a mechanical keyboard, mouse laser with 12 K dpi and five monitors 24 ".

I was willing to spend that money on a laptop of luxury that I can travel with, but is it really worth what I'm going through? Also, others on the Internet said they have returned their Macbook Pro for the same model without the dedicated GPU and no longer meet the problem. BUT why someone would invest $3 K in a machine without a good graphics card? IT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME.

PLEASE, I BEG YOU! Can someone help APPLE me this question?

If I am not convinced to the contrary, Apple then lost me as a customer forever and return to Windows, I oppose the $4 500.00 I spent. If I am convinced to stay, then Apple will get $4K out of me at all times every 3-4 years, I invested in most any software.

Also, if I can post a video showing you what I'm listening to, then you will be in shock. Honestly, I'd like to keep this machine, but I need help to understand what is happening and what can be done to correct the problem.

    Thank you

    mjaestewart

Everyone from Apple have a preview? I am pretty surprised to have not received a response.

    Please help me out here.

    Thank you

  • If I want to use an external monitor of ranking on dell precision 5000 or Hp zbook (equipped both of usb3 and thunderbolt 3) this piece of harware would work with SG?

If I want to use an external monitor of ranking on dell precision 5000 or Hp zbook (equipped both of usb3 and thunderbolt 3) this piece of harware would work with SG? My monitor is a scientist of Flanders HDSDI LM-2460W. I know blackmagic has a few options but the last time I checked, he has not worked with SG. Anyone know?

I think Sg works more easily with an output of your video card... I run two monitors style DVI outputs, but he could use the HDMI connections too I think. The tab Setup (wrench) go you and activate a second monitor and... it's a unique method instead... use the lines where she asks location information to 'say' Sg where the upper-left pixel of your second monitor (program or viewing) is your monitor 'system '.

I had two 1920 x 1080 monitors, stacked vertically, OS/UI on the bottom, "programs" or reading on the upper monitor.

So, this upper-left pixel of my 2nd monitor is a negative number for 'up' and zero to indicate the two pixels top left "even".

It is-1080 for the "vertical" number... it's the height of my 2nd screen and it is negative, because it is above the main screen.

It is 0 for the horizontal number. Yes, they are stacked.

Now, if I had a monitor/program play to the left of my OS/UI screen, it would be...

    Vertical number 0, as relatively, they have the same 'height ';

Horizontal number of-1920, that reading is on the left.

Reading right... Vertical would be 0 and horizontal a positive number of 1920 (width of the primary monitor).

    Hello Board,

We have a few i7 based X 220 Notebooks here, equipped with built-in USB3.0 controller. While we have upgraded successfully variants smaller x 220 with mSATA SSDS from Intel, they are not recognized in i7 Configurations.

We tried it with several SSD Drives and several notebooks, so I do not think that we are talking here, of the defective units, this seems to be a general problem. We also tried versions of different bios, up 1.16

    Anyone else had similar experiences?

My simple hypothesis is the following: all WWAN cards that share the same socket are peripheral based USB, while SSDS mSATA Based PCI Express. My first guess is that the PCI Express Lane connected to Express Mini card making in smaller configurations is cable to the USB 3.0 controller chip. If this is right, I guess there is no solution to our problem.

    Any input appreciated.

    Greetings!
