Brother 2280DW on a Surface with Windows RT

Hello-

I have a brother 2280DW printer and a Surface with Windows RT.  According to the following two links, this printer is compatible with Windows RT:

http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public_s/ID/OS/windows_rt.html

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/winrt/CompatCenter/ProductViewerWithUpdatedFilters?TempOsid=winrt&Type=Hardware&ProductCategory=Printers%20%26%20scanners&ProductSubcategory=Laser%20printers&Vendor=Brother&CurrentPage=0&TotalPages=3&SortCriteria=Relevance&ShowCriteria=2&Compatibility=Works&LastRequested=13&Locale=en-us

The printer is correctly detected and identified as a 2280dw, but the only listed under brother drivers are generic (as pilot Brother Laser class Type1 leg).  When I click on "Windows Update" as a source of pilot, he sits for a minute to: "Windows updates the list of printers. It could take a few minutes"and then said:

Select the device

Windows could not get a list of devices from Windows Update. Please try again later.

Ok

How can I get the Surface to find and load the drivers for my brother 2280DW?

Hello

Please try the "Brother Laser leg Type2 class driver.

Kind regards

  • Amazon Cloud Player or Google Reader works on the Surface with Windows RT?

Amazon Cloud Player or Google Reader works on the Surface with Windows RT?

I think that the answer is no, and if yes, what are the types of applications/services that are likely to be developed for the Surface (Windows RT) Finally?
In addition, these things (Amazon Cloud Player and Google Drive) will be available on the version of Windows 8 fantasy of the Surface when it comes out?
A Surface of Windows, I bought for my mother and I did not open and I just check all these things. A laptop is perhaps better for her, but I have little that this is best for some reason any.
    Thank you.

    Original title: amazon cloud player

The Surface Pro is a full PC and runs Windows 8, you can install the Amazon downloader and download the song files as you do now on a regular PC. Surface RT runs Windows RT and does not run as many different applications such as Surface Pro.

You can play songs streamed from the web version of Amazon Cloud Player on Windows 8 and Windows RT. Currently, I'm not aware of any way to download songs from Amazon directly on Windows RT. You will first need to download them on a normal PC and then copy them to the Surface RT if you want to listen to the songs without a network connection.

There is no Google Drive for Windows RT application so far, but Microsoft did something similar, called SkyDrive.

In addition, just for the record it is a Kindle for Windows 8 and Windows RT application, so that you can read your Kindle eBooks.

I speak from experience, having recently purchased a Surface RT to play with. I hope this helps.

  • If I buy a tablet of surface with Windows RT can move to Windows 8 Pro?

Or I just have to wait until the release of surface Windows with Pro?

No, you cannot update the software because the hardware is different. Surface with Windows RT has a mobile processor (ARM), whereas the Surface with Windows 8 Pro has an Intel processor (like most of the PC).

  • How to import email contacts to Surface with Windows RT

I added my Yahoo account on the Surface screen 'setting '.  I received emails on the Surface of Yahoo, but none of my contacts have been imported to the Surface.  At the surface 'people' accounts section, he showed my facebook account but not my Yahoo account.  When I went to Yahoo (on Surface via the office) and tried to export contacts.  He wouldn't let me export because I was within a "frame".

It took me 2 days trying to get my yahoo contacts on the Surface.  Then, finally, I decided to set up a Gmail account.  Imported contacts yahoo to Gmail Gmail added people.  Problem solved!

  • How can I read my existing Kindle electronic books on my new Surface with Windows RT 8.1 (previously downloaded on my desk in my library)?

I use my local library to select and download Kindle eBooks on my desk.  I copied several of them to my new Surface.  I also installed the App "Kindle" on the Microsoft Store, but he can't find the books I copied in the 'Documents' folder under a file of 'books '.  Whenever I start the application, it offers me an option to 'BROWSE', but will that go to the SkyDrive, then it looks for anything (although I copied one of the books there).  So, what should I do now?

For the readers of this issue, my Librarian has solved the problem as follows:

No idea how to "Sideload" e-books of the Kinlde of application view.  However, to use the office, go to the website of library book, select a book to consult, let it send you to Amazon, download the book (repeat for the other books if necessary) then go to the Tablet Surface, open the Kindle app, click SkyDrive and make sure that the list is updated, click on the new books at the same time and let the Tablet download each one.  This method works.

  • How can I print my Microsoft Surface running Windows 8 RT?

How can I print my Microsoft Surface running Windows 8 RT?

Most new wireless printers have an impression of the Microsoft Surface with Windows 8 RT problem.  Everything you need to make these printers is tell them to print and they will.  Older wireless, Ethernet and USB printers should not have driver officially supported in Windows 8 RT, but there is a way to get the printer working.  There are different requirements depending on how the printer is connected to the Surface.

Note: All the steps below are only for other HP ink Jet, DeskJet, PhotoSmart and OfficeJet printers.  These steps are not for Laserjet printers or printers from other manufacturers.  These steps may not work for all inkjet printers.  If these steps do not work, try different drivers in the list until you find the one that works (you'll understand what I mean once you follow the steps below).  If none of the drivers work, your printer does not work with the Surface.

For (Ethernet or wireless) network printers, all you need is Surface keyboard or a USB keyboard to connect to the Surface.  It is simply what you have to type more easy to type.  You will also need to have the Surface and the printer connected to the same network.

    1. From the right edge, drag your finger to the left on the screen Surface to appear charms bar.
    2. Press search.
    3. Under the search box, tap Settings.
    4. In the search box, type devices and printers.
    5. Press devices and printers.
    6. Contact add a printer.
    7. Tap "my printer is not listed.
    8. Select the TCP/IP option and then press Next.
    9. Enter the IP address of the printer and press Next.  Note: You can get this from the network printer, or list DHCP in your router Configuration Page.
    10. The Surface will locate the printer and try to install it.  Installation fails, and the Surface will be asked what you want to do, look on the internet for the driver, or manually install the driver.  Choose to install the driver yourself.
    11. Press 'I want to choose from a list of drivers.
    12. If no driver is in the list, make sure that the box next to 'Show compatible drivers' is not checked.
    13. Choose HP in the production list.
    14. Choose driver DeskJet PCL 3 class in the list of drivers.  If this driver does not work, try using the Photosmart PCL3 driver, or the driver Officejet PCL 3.  (Thanks JonW for letting me know about these other alternates.) )
    15. Press Next.
    16. Tap Finish.
    17. Test print.

For USB connected printers, need you a USB cable to connect the printer to the computer.

    1. Connect the printer to the computer via USB.
    2. Windows will try to find the drivers but will not be able to.
    3. Here Windows may ask you if you want to choose the driver to install.  If she go to step 14 below.
    4. From the right edge, drag your finger to the left on the screen Surface to appear charms bar.
    5. Press search.
    6. Under the search box, tap Settings.
    7. In the search box, type Device Manager.
    8. Press Device Manager.
    9. Tap view and select Show Hidden.
    10. Search for the printer in Device Manager.  It should be in the other devices section with a yellow warning next to her sign.
    11. Select the printer in the list.
    12. Press Action.
    13. Update driver to touch or to install any what it displays.
    14. The Surface will ask you what you want to do, look on the internet for the driver, or manually install the driver.  Choose to install the driver yourself.
    15. Press 'I want to choose from a list of drivers.
    16. If no driver is in the list, make sure that the box next to 'Show compatible drivers' is not checked.

    18. Choose driver DeskJet PCL 3 class in the list of drivers.  If this driver does not work, try using the Photosmart PCL3 driver, or the driver Officejet PCL 3.  (Thanks JonW for letting me know about these other alternates.)  )
