Brother HL-5040 laser printer does not print in Windows 7 64 bit

I had this problem and solved technical support Brother. Share the answer here.

First of all, the printer is compatible with Windows 7 64-bit, which means that it is not correct:

http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/search.aspx?l=en-us&type=hardware&s=brother%20HL-5040

Viz:

http://www.brother-USA.com/LP/windows7compatibility.aspx

It is an older printer (but many), which the driver is not preloaded on Windows 7. But it is available via Windows Update (don't cross here, but it's simple.) Operating instructions here:

http://www.brother-USA.com/LP/windows7compatibility.aspx#winupdate

Note that I've known a couple of wrinkles in the process, but generally, he worked as directed. So now you have your pilot.

But the test page not yet print! I got on the phone with the help of brother. The problem is that when you download the driver from Windows Update, it is by default the printer to the LPT1 port. It is a parallel port that some modern laptops, if any, have. You must switch to the USB port

So: go to start--> devices and printers

Find the Brother HL-5040, right click and select printer properties in the drop-down menu that appears as if by magic.

Click the Ports tab.

You will see that LPT1 is selected. Scroll down to the bottom and who says USB002 check (at least in my case it was 002; anything with USB00x should work). Hit apply.

At this point, my test page printed. Good luck.

Had a lot of challenges by installing this as a shared printer (host was a Windows XP box) when trying to install by connecting to the printer, could not find the driver.  Finally installed as printer local to LPT1 port using the PCL5e driver and then added a new port (\\machinename\printername).  Worked like a champ.

My HP LaserJet 3055 All In One does not scan with Windows 7-64 bit. I can copy and print only. Thank you.

    Hello

Is the printer connected to your PC by USB or network?

Using the USB connection, you can scan using Windows Fax and Scan software built into your operating system.

Scanning over a network connection unfortunately supported on Windows7 32 bit only, as you can find listed in the section about network scanning below:

  • Satellite A210 (PSAEG) - Microphone does not work on Windows 7 64 bit

Hello, the microphone does not work on windows 7 64-bit, the driver that I use is 64-bit Windows Vsta. The volume is implemented maximum and so is the amplification but no way to make it work with the software assistant camera Skype or toshiba.
    Can someone help me?

    Thank you

    Hi Largo09,

Usually, you need to install the webcam driver and sound to get the microphone working. The microphone is a part of webcam

As you wrote, Satellite A210 is not Windows 7 64 bit supported, so the only option you have the Vista 64 bit drivers

In my opinion, you should check if the Microphone is turned on in Windows audio settings. There you can also activate the Microphone Amplifier, which can increase the volume of the microphone.

This can help with some (but not all the) programs/drivers:

    (1) uninstall the program, if it is already installed. Then when install you / reinstall instead of double click on the Setup file, right click and select 'resolve compatibility issues.

    (2) then click on 'Try recommended settings' and in the next window, click on "Start the Program" to install it.

    (3) after he set up see if it works properly. Note: some programs may not be able to run in Windows 7.

    and it worked.

did anyone tried the version updated? I read some rather disappointing reveiws.

  • Cisco Anyconnect VPN does not work in windows 7 64 bit

    Hello
I found that the cisco anyconnect (version 3, any series) does not work in windows 7 (64-bit).
The vpn is connected, but there is not any internet access.

I tried to solve the problems of:

    -Disabling the firewall.

    -disable the anti-virus etc.

But while I tried using with 32 bit, it works very well.

Also, I found that there is not a specific version of anyconnect vpn for only 64-bit.

Do any body have the idea how to solve this problem, either it's a bug of cisco vpn itself?

Certainly, you just need to install a later version of AnyConnect.  You need a Cisco, for example a SmartNet maintenance contract, to download the new versions.

  • Solution Center does not correctly install Windows 7 64 bit

I've looked everywhere on the forum about this but still do not have a resolution.

I have a HP Photosmart C7280, I've had two or three years.  When it is connected to an XP machine it worked fine.  I have since bought a new PC running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit, and although I tried over and over, install, uninstall and reinstall the software from the HP Solution Center, I can't work.  I really need to have the feature analysis of the Cluster Solution that I need to scan documents up to 100 pages.

Is it possible that this software is not compatible with Windows 7 64 bit?  I downloaded the software later on the site of HP and my PC works always the latest updates of Windows 7.

If I can't get this resolved, I'll have to buy a new printer all-in-one and believe me it will not be a HP this time.  Help, please.

Well I'm done chasing my tail.  It is clear that this is never going to work.  I tried to do the installation on another machine in 64-bit Windows 7 (gateway GT5228) which was a clean install and never had a HP product installed on it before and she's not exactly the same way.  I also tried a XP operating system installation and it works beautifully.  So my conclusion is that developers at HP simply no interest to this provision on Windows 7 64 bit, or they are simply too incompetent to make it work properly.  I am a software consultant in real life, and I do installations on servers is not as if I'm inexperienced.  I decided to buy another printer, but after this experience, it will not be a HP.  It is not just that a printer that works very well mechanically must be thrown on the junk-pile because the software cannot be upgraded successfully.  HP is not very favourable to the environment, creation of garbage where it could be avoided.  Sad and disappointed.

    Hi Lou,

Basic scanning drivers built into the operating system only allow scan however a USB key.

You can follow these steps to install the previous HP software by using compatibility mode:

    http://h20564.www2.HP.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docLocale=en_US&docid=emr_na-c03506225

Vista drivers can be obtained directly from the following link:

    THX.

If use you Windows Update, it will install a printer driver, but the scanner does not work, Xerox has not yet developed a driver for Windows 7 for this printer/scanner. The latest driver is for Windows Vista since 2008. I hope they won't disappoint us and come up with some appropriate support of Windows 7. If anyone has a work around to install the scanner, I'm all ears.

  • HP Photosmart C7280 solutions Center does not work after Windows 7 32 bit upgrade

I recently updated my operating system from Windows Vista to Windows 7 (32 bit).  Before the upgrade, my C7280 worked fine using the center of Solution and in my home wireless network.  After the upgrade to Windows 7 and download and install PS_AIO_02_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe, version 13.1.0, Solution Center does not work.

At the opening of the solution Center, it displays disconnected printer.  Using the Wireless Setup Wizard, the printer connects to the network.  I can open the Solution Center and it works very well for about 3 seconds and then goes to the printer disconnected mode.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the software update for Windows 7 package C7280 repeatedly and with the same results.  I downloaded and installed the patches and still no change.

I finally had to restore my computer to original operating system.  After the computer back to its original configuration, I used the original to HP Photosmart printer disk to reinstall the driver for Windows Vista.  Everything worked as before.  Then I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.  Yet once, he told me that the HP Photosmart C7280 printer was not compatible with Windows 7.  I uninstalled the printer driver and run Windows 7 upgrade advisor.  This time, I have not received any message about the C7280 printer.

I installed upgrading to Windows 7 (32-bit), and then upgrade the HP Photosmart C7280 for Windows 7 32-bit driver.  Everything works fine now.
