  Could be the caps lock and the left SHIFT keys are blocked. Open your 'OSK', start-> all programs-> Accessories-> accessibility-> keyboard on the screen. The shift caps lock and shift keys have red contours (highlighted). Click on them and see what happens. You may need to remove the dirt under the keys with compressed air, you may also need to remove the caps, if that does not work. See the link below on how to remove and replace the keys:

  I've had my laptop (a HQ Presario CQ62) for about two years now and I've never met a major problem with what I did not understand how to solve.
