BSD trying to reinstall XP

I am trying to reinstall XP on a Thinkpad R500, the problem I have is when I put the XP cd boot from, the cd player works cd and looks like it will load but whenever I just get a BSD, any cd of xp, I use. Now to clarify, I use my cd of XP MVL not the Lenovo Rescue and Recovery cd because this laptop was bought as a Vista downgraded to XP, it came from factory with XP loaded but with cd of Vista also, I managed to install Vista to the rescue aid and the laptop recovery CD came with I did it just to see if it would work and it did.

I could just install XP on all my other laptops lenovo using MVL cd XP without problem and this laptop that I'm having a problem with, I could blow away and reinstall XP on it a year with no problems I do not understand why it is a question now.

We cannot use Vista in our environment, so I really need to get XP on this machine, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Put in the BIOS under config - SATA compatibility or include the Intel Matrix Storage Manager for a slipstreamed XP installation CD. You can also include the driver through the floppy drive while Setup (see the instructions on the download page)

  • SmartTouch 520-1020: 10 Windows corrupted and tried to reinstall windows 7

I have a SmartTouch 520-1020 which worked fine until I upgraded to Win10. No PC does not start correctly. I tried to reinstall Win 7 64-bit via the disk and the partition that has the operating system on it inadvertently allowed. I created a new Win10 recovery disk using the download of recovery, but wanted to know if there is a way to access and run the recovery partition which is always on the PC, even if the primary partition is disabled?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - but more likely--DO NOT.

The update of Win10 has a bad history of corrupt recovery OEM as part of the upgrade information, and if that happens, without recovery OEM will work.

What will work restores your computer to its original factory state using HP recovery media.  It is a DVD and CD set that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, applications and settings, reinstall the original OS, drivers and utilities for HP. In some cases, you will be able to order a USB instead of discs.  You must order at HP; they cannot be downloaded.

You can look online for recovery from the paged media related: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Once there, enter your product name or number. On your software page and download the drivers, select your operating system and version. Click on "Update".  If the HP recovery support is available for your computer, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for the command Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click on the symbol '+' to expand this entty and click on order to press for more details.

Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:

If you live in the United States or the Canada, details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

Note that if HP no longer provides a recovery media for your model, a few other sites, you can check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/

Don't forget to read through the material in the linked thread before attempting the recovery: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00707939

  • Accidentally deleted Windows 98 when trying to reinstall XP Pro upgrade.

I wanted just a fresh reinstall of XP Pro, so please help me with my specific problem if you can.  I was using my version of XP Pro to re-intall upgrade.  Instructions for reinstalling confused me and I inadvertently selected an option that has removed the original 98 OS during installation process.  Given that my copy of XP Pro, is to install an upgrade not a complete new OS, I can't proceed because my 98 files are gone: (...) (but perhaps not fatal?)  I stopped the process as soon as I realized that the option I chose was probably not the right, but it seems that it was too late.  Using my XP Pro upgrade cd installation could not proceed when I tried again because the original 98 OS files are now missing. :(

I got this computer set up with a legitimate 98 and XP Pro upgrade for several years.  I can't find my original of 98 (I can't find it in stock and gives me an injury so I can't dig for it, also, it could be anywhere).  So the problem is this: I need to restore my 98 operation system somehow somehow (without my cd), so I can use my XP Pro updated to get back to where I was, a work computer XP Pro.  That's all.

Is it possible to do, either by MS support (I was registered through Windows Genuine Advantage or just what it's called so I guess they can check that my BONES were and are indeed legitimate) or can they help me with another installation of 98 so I can re - install usimg my upgrade back to XP Pro? Or another solution? Somehow to restore the deleted files? Please note: I can not afford to buy anything right now, I am out of work right now, so thank you very much in advance for any suggestions and the reasons to buy Windows 7 or buy something else, but these solutions are NOT viable for me right now, but thank you again if you were going to think that.  What I really need help's suggestions as to what can be done to help me get my current system facing up and running using what I have on the spot.

I appreciate sincerely any help you can offer!
