BSOD after vMotion to replacement 5.1 ESXi hosts

We replaced a set of HP DL380 G7 (Intel X 5660, 144 GB of ram) running ESXi 5.1 build 1312873 for a set of Cisco B200 M3 (Intel E5-2697v2, 256 GB ram) running ESXi 5.1 build 1900470.  They are into different groups for the virtual machine have been powered down, vMotioned (host and data store level) to the new cluster, under voltage and update the VMware Tools.  Since then, a number of the virtual machine have projected blue.  All cases throw the error code "ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY" 0x000000fc.  Two of the referenced blue screen ntoskrnl.exe and yesterday referenced win32k.sys.  There is no problem with these virtual machines before you move, and right now I'm trying to troubleshoot the cause.  I looked at the use of the resources of occurrence of yesterday as well to a host and VM level, and nothing stands out.  Syslog host looks ok too.  Someone at - it ideas?

There is a known issue with the v2 CPUs. Please check with Cisco if they already provide a BIOS upgrade for this problem. For more details, please visit http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2073791

I have a VM BSOD after vmotion of esx4.0 to esxi4.1.  I vmotioned 150 + other vm very well and it gives me the penalty.  When I put it on the 4.0 host he starts up to normal.

    Any suggestions?

Regarding the comment from Andre on CPUID masks, it is an ideal place to study.

    (A) your cluster running a point of reference VCA?

    (B) If your virtual machine has a mask defined CPUID Edit > Options > CPUID mask

    (C) other virtual machines have a defined manual CPUID mask?  The masks are different than what a VM?

    (D) If you vMotion a virtual machine with a mask (for example) SSE4 enabled on a VMhost which does not support SSE4, you can certainly get a BSOD.  EVC baseline will prevent this from happening.

  • Should the RAM for an ESXi host replaced the same ones remaining?

    Hello

We are running a cluster of servers ESXi 5.1 - 2 of them are Xeon E7440 2.4 GHz (64 GB of RAM) and 1 of them is Xeon X 5460 3.16 GHz (32 GB of RAM).

Currently, the use of the memory of all three ESXi hosts are about 60%.

We will replace the Xeon X 5460 server with a new physical server.  We would like to ask for your opinion how much RAM you must order (my manager of door on the cost of the new server).

    Thank you

    Hi again Tony,

    1. No, it is not high at all. You should begin to worry about this, after reaching approximately 85-90%.
    2. My short experience with clusters of memory-unbalanced, adding that more memory would be a lot like the DRS manages memory locations & 'kindness host' in the right direction, but I'm not really sure how that would turn out in the long term. If you decide to present more memory to your server, it would be possible to upgrade the other two guests sooner than later
    3. Yes, ask the seller would be the right thing to do. Please note that you will need to put in place an enhanced vMotion to conform to your next "older" CPU then, because you'll have something other than X 5460. I guess you'll have to "intensify" a generation or two, depending on what you have found.

  • As part of the SAR cert is to have a NW separated between ESXi host required for VMotion or is it OK to use IP for VMotion management, in the execution of Certification tests.

As part of the SAR cert is "have a NW/dedicated separate between hosts ESXi (on which we GOS) mandatory for VMotion or is - OK to use IP for VMotion management in the execution of Certification tests.»

Note that the verification passed Test when you use management IP for Vmotion and without a dedicated connection to NW between ESXi hosts.

Separate dedicated network interface cards preferred. No problem with the test after this change case.

  • Random virtual machines after vMotion and Storage vMotion network loss

    Hi all -

I have a couple of tickets open with VMware and our supplier of SAN, EqualLogic, on this issue.  Since the configuration of our production and DMZ clusters we noticed that the virtual machines will sometimes drop network connectivity after a successful vMotion and Storage vMotion.  Sometimes, although much less frequently, virtual machines also spontaneously lose network overnight.  What happened only a few times.  The strange thing is that the other guests on the VM host are fine - they lose any network.  Actually, I can do no more than 3 computers virtual host to another, and 2 of 3 can switch correctly, so that we lose the network.  The work around?  Simply 'disconnect' from the virtual NETWORK card 'reconnect' and the virtual machine will start the return packets.  I can also switch the VM troubled return to the host State and it will find the network.  I can it reboot and re - win network.  I can re - install the virtual card completely, and she re - win network.

VMware has seen a lot of mistakes of SAN in our log files in order to update us our SAN firmware to the latest version.  That seems to have fixed that but we still have the issue.  Here are some of the specifications - all environments are virtually identical except for memory:

    Of PowerEdge R810

    NICs Broadcom 5709

    EqualLogic SAN running 5.0.5 F/W

We use frames.  ESXi is fully patched.  I haven't seen a boss or not, it is only some guest operating system that loses the network, but we are a Windows environment.

When a virtual machine loses the network, we can not:

    • Ping to it
    • Ping it
    • Ping him at the virtual machines on the same host or vSwitch
    • Ping outside our network
    • resolve DNS, etc..

I followed some KBs VMware without success, including:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1003839
http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC & externalId = 1002811 (port security is not enabled)

-All the VMware tools have been updated to the latest version correct and corresponds to the ESXi host
-Connected to the service ESXi console, I cannot ping the VM problem by name of host or IP address, but I can ping do not affected by the issue of the OTHER virtual machines.  I can also pings the service console.
-Connected to the troubled virtual machine itself, I cannot ping other virtual machines, I can't resolve host names, I cannot ping by IP.  The machine virtual CAN ping itself by IP, but not hostname.  I cannot ping other virtual computers on the same virtual switch or network by either IP or host name.  I can't ping the vSwitch network management.
-All vSwitches are configured in the same way and the same.
-Notify the switches is set to yes
-There are a lot of available virtual ports
-We tried the E1000 and VMXNET virtual cards with no difference.
-All cards are configured to negotiate, but we tried to force individuals speeds as well as with no difference

I appreciate your help.  I have problems getting anywhere on this issue with the sellers.

    Still having the issue...

Sometimes, it might be useful to really check that all uplinks VMNIC for all VLAN does work them. Try this is to create a new portgroup on the vSwitch used by your virtual machines on the host of the first, put a test VM on the portgroup, then go into the NIC teaming policy from the new portgroup and select "Override switch command failover."

Then down vmnic all except one in unused, then only a single VMNIC is active. Then set the portgroup VLAN to a production of VLAN and try to see if we could ping some expected from the different addresses. If it works, then move VMNIC work until unused and move up to another asset. Try again, and this for all the vmnic. If it works, then you have verified that the configuration of VLANS and other settings are correct on the physical switch in the face of this host ports.

If several VLANs, repeat the process for all other productions VLAN. Then repeat on the other hosts.

While that may take some time, occurs if everything is properly configured on the physical switches. When occurs a vMotion virtual machine gets a new "Port code" and is assigned to a new outgoing VMNIC. If there is an error of configuration on one or more physical ports that might seem random, but may still happen on VLAN x on y VMNIC. Given that Port ID policy you use indeed spread randomly VMs on the vmnic these problems may be difficult to diagnose. (Make a disconnection of the VM vNIC gives the virtual machine a new port-ID, which it will move to a new outgoing VMNIC, which might seem to solve the problem.)

Do you get the BSOD during the BIOS update procedure?
Are you using the Windows operating system preinstalled Toshiba? or did you install your own system?

If you have installed your system, then you should check that the VAP is installed as well.

  • My laptop has sometimes bsod after updating!

I have a laptop HP running windows 8 32-bit! I don't know who it is! It started about a week after I got it! I kept getting bsod after updating. My brother recommended I have download ccleaner which got rid of bsod for about 2 months. I think that burning causing the bsod has some images of memory. Recently updated. I have ccleaned but no memory dumps were found. I thought that windows had finally corrected this bug. I used my laptop for a day! And then all of a sudden the BSODs happened. I did not worth it to go back on my PC. Please can someone help me!

    Hey Mohindra3

Looks like you have a problem with persistent blue screens. It would help to know which model you have.

If you need help with this information, you can follow this link.

It would also be useful to know if you upgraded to Windows 8 32-bit.

Another step, you can try running a diagnostic test on your hard disk and RAM. Follow this link for steps on it.

Blue screens can sometimes be caused by damaged or incompatible drivers. The hard drive and RAM diagnostic tests will help refine the question though.

You could also provide with the minidump file that will give me a lot of information. You can navigate to C:\Windows\minidump. You will need to download the newest .dmp file to a third party site, (such as sendspace.com or filedump.com or another site like those) given that the HP forums do not allow this type of downloading files. Just to provide me with a link to the site whatever you choose so that I can take a look at the .dmp file.

I hope these steps help! I'll keep an eye out for your answer.

  • BSOD after installing the update of Norton on HPg7

Laptop has been random and very frequent BSOD after an automatic update of Norton. Tried everything but that remove Norton stopped the problem. Hello

Fewer hogging resources & a pretty decent anti-virus software which can only be invoked:

  • I get BSOD after Bios flash, can connect in safe mode.

    Hi all

I use a laptop HP DV3145 DX, OS is win 7 Home Basic (it came with the laptop).

A few days ago my screen started to behave erratically. The lower part of the screen is blurred and was unreadable. So I have updated Bios with the HP support assistant.

After I flashed the bios, I could connect to windows, but every time I log on to the windows it crashed (BSOD) after 30 to 60 seconds.

I could connect to the computer in safe mode

    That's what I did

    1. connected in safe mode and disabled all startup program (used Msconfig), with the exception of microsoft. This did not help.

2 activated the player HP_tools disk management and I see the Bios, Bios_new file is there.

Now, what should be my next step? I want to factory reset as my last option, I have a lot of settings, digital certificates, backups of phone in this machine, those who are important to my work.

I think to Flash the Bios to the previous version to see if that helps. Now, I don't consider myself a very experienced user. So if anyone can tell me how to Flash the bios to the older version, I'll be grateful.

I would also like to hear any other suggestions, others may have.

    * PS: I can't update windows drivers (I've updated about a month ago), because the 3 G dongle that I use is not having recognized in safe mode.

    Thanks in advance,

    Magassa

You should not have flashed the BIOS. Updating the BIOS is not a magic solution to all the problems. You must perform as the first response to a problem with your laptop because it adds an element of risk.

You should use the diagnoses instead. Press the power button and immediately press the ESC key. In the start menu, choose to press the F2 key to invoke diagnostics. Perform a system test, a test of memory, a hard drive test and a test video.  Let us know what are the results of the diagnostic test. The image is a more recent version that is installed on the hard drive of your laptop, but is still pretty similar.

  • BSOD after Logo Windows at startup: bad driver, AutoFailover

I get BSOD after Windows Logo at startup. Said Startup Repair: bad driver, AutoFailover.

Two weeks ago, that I was getting the same BSOD after logo, but only with the bad driver. I not did something to fix it (or Startup Repair), it's just dissapeard after a few days. Also, the last day that I was getting BSOD, the night when I started my pc, it remained 2 minutes at Intel Boot Agent initialization and also 30 seconds to the black screen that follows (before the windows logo). When this situation occurs I get more BSOD. I tried to restart my pc but I stayed another 2 minutes to the Intel Boot Agent initialization. This problem has been fixed in the next morning, when I started my PC, even once, I don't know how, I did nothing. I remember that it is sometimes used to stay 2 minutes Intel Boot Agent, even when I was on Windows Vista, and it also sets automatically.
I upgraded my BIOS a few weeks before getting the BSOD, but I don't think that's the problem. In addition, there was no new driver installed before getting the BSOD, drivers have been installed after the first BSOD (even if the event viewer and the reliability monitor do not mention the first BSOD, only those who have followed the installation of the driver I know there's a BSOD before, I'm sure.)

  • BSOD after updating August 2012

I have a few users know the random BSOD after installing updates to August 2012.  All updates installed normally and there are no errors.  Before that, all systems are stable.  These occurrences WORC appear at random (not started).  I reimagee machines, applied all updates and blue screens continue - maybe 3 or 4 per day.

Systems are the two e6400 Dell Latitude with 4 GB of RAM running Windows Ultimate x 64.

MS Security Essentials is the only AV/Malware program on the system.

  • Loose ability to browse file shares after vMotion

    Some configuration information.

2 ESXi hosts: HostA and HostB

2 physical switches (both connected to the same subnet, vlan, all connected to the same switch to base: SwitchA and SwitchB)

    1 VM in question: FileServerVM

FileServerVM is running on HostA, which is physically connected to SwitchA.  (B host is physically connected to SwitchB).

I have FileServerVM from HostA to HostB vMotion.  So far so good.  Can communicate with FIleServerVM very well through anything I try except file shares.  When I try to access a drive that is mapped to FIleServerVM it fails or if I just eyebrows at \\FileServerVM\ it fails.  If I vMotion FileServerVM return of host b to HostA, everything suddenly starts working again.

Anyone encountered this before?  Any suggestions?

Found the problem.  The vSwitch on HostB has several physical maps that are entrusted.  One of them was related to one VLAN incorrect.
