BSOD on XP SP3 after October 8 updates

Hello.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. After 8 October 2013 updates have been automatically downloaded and installed on Windows XP SP3 computers identical 74, each of them has experienced blue screen of death. None could be retrieved with the last well known or repair Windows and all had to be recreated. They are all identical Dell Optiplex 745N computers with only a custom, installed software, and all have worked very well for 5 years. Re-imaging them and prevent the updates of the race was brought to life. According to the event logs that I managed to get off a few machines, none of the updates have been updated driver/hardware. The installed updates were:

Product: Microsoft .NET Framework Client Profile 4 - update 'KB2861188 '.
Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 - update 'KB2863239 '.
Product: Microsoft Silverlight - 'Microsoft Silverlight 5.1.20913.0' update
Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 - updated "KB2861697".
Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2 - update 'KB2861189 '.
Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended - update 'KB2858302v2 '.
Product: Microsoft .NET Framework Client Profile 4 - update 'KB2858302v2 '.

All updates (according to the event logs) updated successfully and there are no errors in the case where connects. All computers do not have access to Internet (only Windows Update) and are protected by Sophos AV.

Anyone else has this problem or have any ideas? Until I have find that day caused it, I have to disable Windows Update for XP that isn't ideal machines.

Thanks for any advice.

Jon

This morning, we believe we have identified the problem.  Update KB2862330.

Here's how to reverse the update manually:

DEL "c:\windows\driver cache\i386\usbccgp.sys.

DEL "c:\windows\driver cache\i386\usbd.sys.

DEL "c:\windows\driver cache\i386\usbehci.sys.

DEL "c:\windows\driver cache\i386\usbport.sys.

DEL "c:\windows\system32\dllcache\usbccgp.sys".

DEL "c:\windows\system32\dllcache\usbd.sys".

DEL "c:\windows\system32\dllcache\usbehci.sys".

DEL "c:\windows\system32\dllcache\usbport.sys".

COPY 'C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB2862330$\usbccgp.sys' 'c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbccgp.sys.

COPY 'C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB2862330$\usbd.sys' 'c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbd.sys '.

COPY 'C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB2862330$\usbehci.sys' 'c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbehci.sys.

COPY 'C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB2862330$\usbport.sys' 'c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbport.sys.

COPY 'C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB2862330$\spuninst\spuninst.txt' 'C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB2862330$\spuninst\spuninst.tag '.

We have tested and it seems to work.  Good luck!

This morning, I rebooted my computer and during the loading sequence, updates continue (the non-graphical part) and then I got a BSOD.  I tried to run all the security modes and got the same message.

I ran repair my system disk and got the message that he could not repair the version of windows.  I tried a system restore, but it said I had no save points.

Is there a way to manually tell it that updates have been an uninstall from the reapir vista disk command prompt?

The specific the BSOD error code is
    0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x8264CB56, 0x803998CC, 0x803995C8)

Any help which is not one of these answers canned that has a bunch of stuff I can't do since I can't on something else that the ERD would be useful.
    Thank you!

In the end I solved it me - so if someone runs into similar codes - here is the summary:

    I ran Windows Update.
On reboot the part of the update that runs in non-graphical mode full - then crashed by the computer.
I got BSOD screens whenever I tried to boot in any mode.
    The specific error code is 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x8264CB56, 0x803998CC, 0x803995C8)
I tried the repair disk installation process - which could not find anything.
I couldn't do a system restore point, because they were all gone.
I called Microsoft - they were very nice, but their only solution was to re - install which was not possible for me.
I downloaded and created a boot cd on another computer that could run antivirus software.
The disc has been call BootCD Secured2k - there is a forum on the Mcafee site about this.
I used it and found a Patched - atapi.sys trojan that he removed from the case.
(Reading between the lines - this thing has been disrupted by the Microsoft Update that caused the mess)
Then I got a new problem starting with the error code: 0x0000007b 0x80399bb0
Same problem of being unable to boot in any mode.
Same problem of being useless installation disc repair.
After leaving it for a few hours, it occurred to me that perhaps when atapi.sys, that Trojan has been deleted the file was so.
I connected the command line available from the installation disc advanced repair options.
    ATAPI.sys had indeed disappeared.
I used the X:\windows\system32\drivers\atapi.sys and copied on my C:\Windows\system32\drivers.
And presto! -my windows starts with happiness and everything seemed to work.
(Why can't notice of repair of microsoft one missing disk or messed up file atapi.sys?)

Unfortunately a few days later I noticed the Windows updates not working and I couldn't go even this part of the site.
I tried everything I could think of and failed.
    So I called Mircorosoft again.
We spent an hour on the phone and they found the problem this time!
I used OpenDNS as my DNS provider for performance of problems caused by Time Warner.
For some reason any OpenDNS blocking any attempt on my end to reach the Microsoft Update sites.
I went from Microsoft recommended DNS and my computer was happy again.
    Everything has been happy since.

And just to prove that I learned my lesson - I bought Norton Ghost and tries to configure full backups regular since the system restore point says that it don't work for me (I have a vista upgrade a XP Home machine on a FAT file system)

    So:
Secured2K bootable anti-virus CD (and you can run other analyses of viruses such as PA recommended wear)
If ATAPI. SYS is removed or bad - I copied it from the disc command prompt install.
If you Microsoft updates stop working and you can't reach their windowsupdate.microsoft.com - check your DNS.

  • Qosmio X 300-145: BSOD with the fn after a windows update

    Hello

From the windows of the last update (I m on vista sp2) last week, I got a blue screen when I press the FN key.

A few months ago, I had the same problem, but just reinstalling the package of added value was enough to make the FN key works again, this time not.
I tried to uninstall/reinstall the package of added value and utility to Support Flash Cards, always the same.

    Any suggestions?

Have you tried to roll back the OS to an earlier time until these updates have been installed?
No doubt some update has a negative influence on the functionality FN keys.
All that you have done is good, but what else to do?

I can't imagine that Toshiba will offer another version for Vista. In short time Vista will be history, and support will be more focused on Win7.

You don't want to use win7?
I have a Qosmio x 300-14 x and it works fantastic with Win7. Maybe you should think about upgrading.

  • Satellite L300-1 has 3 - after the BIOS update, I get a BSOD

I have a Satellite L300 1A 3 MODEL PSLB8E. I decided to update the version of the BIOS, thinking that he can resolve my issue of ethernet controller.

But after the update, my laptop goes on infinite blue screen of death. How can I recover from this injury?

    Can someone please help.

    Hello

Did you choose the good BIOS update for your model? Was it for Satellite L300 PSLB8E?

    What code you get BSOD?

After the BIOS update you must always load the default settings. Maybe a bad BIOS setting is causing this BSOD.

Laptop has been random and very frequent BSOD after an automatic update of Norton. Tried everything but that remove Norton stopped the problem. Deleted Norton several months ago without even a recurrence of the problem therefore reasonably certain that the cause was the Norton. Myy question is what anti-virus program is known to work reliably on HP g7? Currently to have not installed because I don't know wht will run.

Fewer hogging resources & a pretty decent anti-virus software which can only be invoked:

    Update for Windows Vista (KB2345886)

I found KB981957 to be the culprit on that I worked on a system of XP SP3.  With this update installed, I get an error C000021A Service Control Manager BSOD.  I have manually uninstalled this update by using the Recovery Console and then used Windows Update through IE and deselected this update.  All the other updates installed correctly and the system starts properly.  I would like to know why this update is causing this problem.  Anyone with the same problem?

It reminds me of a similar situation earlier this year with BSOD KB991765.  The cause of the BSOD is a virus that has infected system driver files.  Once clean, the installation worked very well.  I've done many scans on this system and have not yet found any viruses.

  • Blue screen of death (stop 0x0000007B) after April Windows Update on XP Home.

My machine (Dell Dimension 3100 with XP Home) home is set for automatic recovery of Windows updates. I reload often, but when I was forced to start again last week, I got the blue screen of death. Apart from the general BSOD error message, I got the stop code:

    STOP 0x0000007B...

I forgot the subsequent stop codes, but search recall I was doing on them indicated drivers disk or storage-related problem.

I ran all sorts of Dell diagnostics on my hardware, get absolutely no problem. Scan of a viral infection was also negative. A colleague help out me suggested removing the updates of Windows of April, he did help and usefulness of the ERD. XP loaded and started after that, if I had to go through a process of slooow restart for most updates. My office also now charge many times slower - I suspect drivers and services can't find what they expect to find and take considerable time to make mistakes.

My Dell has a range of Intel (RAID-1) matrix installed. I strongly suspect that this pilot was in trouble after the April update Windows Update.

So, what should I do to prevent this from happening again? I don't know the specific fix involved. I have disabled the automatic updates for now.

    TIA

    Rick

Complete sweep of Kaspersky AV, booted from the CD, turned up negative, so I doubt that it is an infection.

I'm sorry, but this does not exclude the possibility of infection. See step # 3 in my previous response, or contact Ms. PCSafety for assistance.

Or see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff559218 (VS.85) .aspx and/or http://aumha.org/a/stop.php#0x7b for more troubleshooting ideas.

Or if you let Windows Update to install an update for the driver (never a good idea), try a roll-back of pilot.

After Windows XP automatic update, I have a problem with the sound.

A few weeks ago after an automatic update of Windows, I had problems with the sound on my laptop. I did a lot of different tests and they all seem to be fine. I have a Sony Vaio, on Windows XP SP3. Sound card is Relatek.

    Hi Surrey_1,

  • BSOD a few minutes after starting. And another after entering IE.

Wake up BSOD a few minutes after starting.  Then I start and it's OK.  Then when I go into IE I get a new one.  Then, everything is OK for a long time (often for the rest of the day).  Trouble started when I downloaded Firefox, while IE was found to have a big security problem.  Download problems.  Tried to go back to the previous state good.  Still getting BSOD.  Then I backed up all personal files, reinstalled windows 3 times!  Still no luck.  Updates seem to work.  I have no material on it, more just printer, keyboard, mouse and speakers.  Something about a Bad pool caller and something on a manually initiated crash appear to be the most common BSOD.  Anyway, I don't understand all this.  I tried to talk with Microsoft technical support, but they could not help and indicate that it could be the hard drive itself.

Someone at - it look at my https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=7C2BA0B8D210B559&id=7C2BA0B8D210B559%21105 minidump file

And I would like to know if this is something that I can fix it or do I have to take the whole thing in a shop for repair.

    Thank you!!!
