Bug Yosemite gray iMac screen at startup

Hi all

Hi all

I come after you on a bug that makes me creasy for several days now...

My iMac late 2009 (screen and hard drive have been changed 3 years ago) under Yosemite 10.10, which worked well decided to bug at startup:
After a classic boot - logo apple with the loading bar - loading for 1/4 - after gray screen and stay like that.

Here what I did:
-Restart the RAM P: unsuccessful

-restart without extensions: success - so I got permission and clean the disk and restart - unsuccessful

-reboot with HD recovery: repeated failure

What should I do?

Thank you for your help...

This is the operation performed:

-J' blew the PRam repeatedly: without success

-Restart in 'safe' mode: that a market so the disk cleanup and repair of the authorization, but same result

-recovery of reboot in HD mode: it worked also, but after downloading I still the same result.

So what to do?

Thanks for your help

    Try a reboot.

Make a backup using Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure that data files can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try to set up another admin user account to see if the same problem persists. If back to my Mac is enabled in system preferences, the guest account will not work. The intention is to see if it is specific to an account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolate a problem by using a different user account

If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account.  Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test. Shut down the computer and then put it up after a 10 second wait. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the SHIFT key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. Startup is considerably slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a check for directory and disables all start-up and connection, among other things. When you restart normally, the initial restart may be slower than normal. If the system is operating normally, there may be 3rd party applications that pose a problem. Try to delete/disable the third-party applications after a reboot using the UN-Installer. For each disable/remove, you need to restart if you do them all at once.

  • Mac Pro 2008 No. Startup Manager Access/Gray screen on startup

I'm in a difficult situation and hoping a Ninja Mac can give a helping hand.

Had a RAM issue (is no longer recognized a pair of memory modules in a 2008 Mac Pro, El Capitan), and among the troubleshooting steps, I did a PRAM reset (press / hold down ALT + CMD + P + R during startup) just to see if it could resolve. Unfortunately, the Mac would not start in front of a gray-white screen with a flashing icon of folder/question mark. Returned never me to get there.

I had read that resetting the PRAM the disc start, among other things, may need to be reset afterwards, and this seems to be the case. Looked this solution and kept diligently press Option key during startup. This time, no folder icon, instead a sensitive cursor, but nothing else. Gray-white screen only, no boot manager to select the startup disk is suitable.

    I also tried the following...

    1. Starting in the Diagnostic Mode... Gray screen.
    2. Restore/recovery... Gray screen.
    3. Reset the SMC... Gray screen.
    4. Enter Safe Mode... Gray screen.

OS (and apps) on flash PCI cards. All files are on hard disks in the 4-Bay, as well as a player flash remains connected to a (used as a scratch of PS) free SATA port. So I can't really share, but I wonder if I shoot all readers it would require a search for another source?

I create an El Capitan USB boot (currently copy with createinstallmedia), but don't expect that it will offer what anyone else that its use is based on access to the Startup Manager at startup..., that I can't do. There are the graphics on the screen (missing folder icon, mobile mouse cursor) so can not imagine a video problem.

    Looking forward to enter here.

    Success!

I created a USB bootable OS X installer using these instructionsand createinstallmedia. After some messing around with the Terminal syntax USB was ready to go. My concern, however, was that the operating instructions required by selecting the drive of the Startup Manager... which I could not access.

With the USB stick plugged in I started to turned on the Mac while pressing the key OCCUPIED Palestinian territory and this time, the selection screen pops up showing just the USB key for installation of El Capitan. Got that we open and instead of installing I chose Startup Manager in the installation menu bar, took my normal OS drive and rebooted. Back in business, no problems.

This put aside, although I understood that reset PRAM would also require reselect startup disk, I don't have a hot clue why did not appear the Boot Manager - or any other useful diagnostic. If someone could throw some light here would be appreciated.

  • Gray combinations screen & key is not working

Hello, guys. I have an iMac Early 2008 (8,1) and I am the infamous "grey screen of death". I have read and tried all the things that are on the following threads, but nothing has fixed my problem.

grey screen of death?  Isn't he dead?  Any suggestions?  Help me I'm ready to jump!

    Grey screen of death

MacBook Pro will not pass a gray screen with loading and the wheel bar

gray screen, what to do now?

.. Step by step to fix your Mac

The things that hurt turned (gray screen and boot issues) so I was under Snow Leopard, and after a frustrating trying to solve, I did a clean install of El Capitan. Worked fine for a few weeks, but the problem is back, sometimes with the "question mark" flashing. Since then, I've tried everything (reset NVRAM memory, disk repair, run the command on the single user Mode, start etc).

I tried to restart recovery OSX (Cmd + R) and I have lived two things: 1. absolutely nothing happen. 2. when I used the command with the FlashDrive (El Capitan) I got the screen install OSX (and this after 15 minutes holding Cmd + R). Yet once I repaired the disc, but the problem persists after restarting.

The Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics are a mythology for me. I've never had to use. If I try with nothing connected or inserted on, nothing is the answer. If I try it with the Flash Player, I have nothing, or even the screen install OSX. If I try it with the factory CD, nothing happens OR the computer starts normally. It's completely random behavior. At this precise moment, I write with the operation of the computer. But I don't know if after I shut down it will be back or not.

So, here I ask your help.

    1. someone has an idea what is happening?

    2. why the startup key combinations do not work as described?

    3. How will I know if it's a hardware or software problem? Solution?

    Thank you

First of all, the Apple Hardware Test for this computer is located on CD 2 of the grey factory original disc install game. You have the good gray moving in together? You should be able to run AHT by inserting disk 2 then by restarting while holding the button D. know that AHT is not always reliable when it reports no errors.

  • Blue screen on startup, the system restore / repair did not work?

Hi, I get a blue screen on startup and cannot start windows - with the error code x0000007E.

I followed the steps on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958233#StartupRepair however runs the repair does not work, and did the system restore.

Will be saved my files / is there a way to fix this? Thank you!

    Hello

You can save your files by putting the drive in another computer as a 2nd disk (best) or external
Drive USB enclosure and then backup to removable media such as CD, DVD or other USB drives.
Of course a real store of the computer or the manufacturer of your system can help to recover the files.

Or you can use a boot Ubuntu CD to back up data.

    ===========================================================

The system has RAID? If so, it's also very suspicious.

This error is usually a driver problem and display adapter (video) driver is the most suspicious if she
may be others. Antivirus/antispyware/security programs, equipment (heat) and major software problems
can also cause the error. When you get to the section of the driver to use the Troubleshoot utility my generic
methods in the next message and then return to the if necessary troubleshooting tool.

Have you recently added hardware or drivers updated? Don't forget to look in Control Panel - Windows
Updates to see if all drivers have been updated it. Other donor opportunities include the antivirus/anti-
    spyware/security programs.

When you get to the pilot and sections of the memory of the troubleshooter check the following message to
update drivers and memory test and then return to the troubleshooter if necessary.

    BCCode: 7F 0x0000007E which is also 0x1000007E

    Cause

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED bug control is a very common bug control. TO
interpret, you must identify which exception has been generated.

    Common exception codes are:

    • 0xc0000005: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION indicates a memory access violation has occurred.

For a complete list of exception codes, see the Ntstatus.h file located in theinc directory
the Microsoft Windows Driver Kit (WDK).

    Solve the problem

If you do not have to debug this problem, you must use certain basic troubleshooting techniques.

    • Make sure you have enough disk space.
    • If a driver is identified in the bug check message, disable the driver or check with the
    • Reference of the manufacturer for driver updates.
    • Try changing video cards.
    • Check with your hardware vendor for updates to the BIOS.
    • Disable the BIOS memory options such as implementing caching or shading.

If you plan to debug this problem, you may find it difficult to get a stack trace. Parameter 2
(the address of the exception) must identify the driver or function that caused the problem.

If the exception code 0 x 80000003 occurs, a hard-coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but the system
has been launched with the /nodebug. switch. This problem should occur infrequently. If it occurs repeatedly,
Make sure that a kernel debugger is connected and the system is booted with the Switch/DEBUG .

In case of exception code 0 x 80000002, the trap frame provides additional information.

If you do not know the specific cause of the exception, consider the following questions:

    • Hardware incompatibility. Make sure all new hardware that is installed is listed in the
    • List of Microsoft Windows Marketplace tested products.
    • Service driver or defective peripheral system. A service driver or defective peripheral system can be
    • responsible for this error. Hardware problems, such as the incompatibilities of the BIOS, memory, conflicts
    • and IRQ conflicts can also generate this error.

If a driver is listed by name in the bug check message, disable or remove that driver. Disable
or remove drivers or services that have been recently added. If the error occurs during startup
sequence and the system partition is formatted with the NTFS file system, you may be able to use safe
Mode to rename or to delete the faulty driver. If the driver is used as part of the system startup procedure
in Safe Mode, you must start the computer by using the Recovery Console to access the file.

If the problem is associated with Win32k.sys, the source of the error may be a third remote
control program. If this software is installed, you can remove the boot of the computer service
by using the Recovery Console, and then by removing the offending system service file.

Check the system log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that might help identify the
device or the driver that generated the bug check 0x7E.

You can also disable memory cache BIOS may try to resolve the error. You should also
Run the diagnostics of material, especially the scanner memory, which provides the manufacturer of the system.
For more information about these procedures, see the manual of your computer.

The error that generates this message may occur after the first reboot during Windows Setup, or
Once the installation is complete. A possible cause of the error is lack of disk space for installation and system
BIOS incompatibilities. For problems during the installation of Windows that are associated with the absence of disc
space, reduce the number of files on the disk drive hard target. Find and delete any temporary
the files that you do not have to have files hidden Internet, backup application and.chkfiles files that
contain fragments of file saved to disk scans. You can also use another hard drive with more drive
free space for the installation. You can solve the problems of BIOS by upgrading the version of the system BIOS.

On 29 may, I sent my iMac for repair at Eaton, here in Toronto (covered under warranty). I got with my screen was fading. They got it all fixed and I came and picked up today. BUT... I don't check the display of a crack, either. Everything happened very fast because I trusted their expertise and did not bother to check the screen carefully. Once I got home, I immediately noticed a small circular crack on the black area of the screen, lost a little piece of glass of the screen. I did not bang the iMac against anything like that. People are very careful with their stuff when something that is expensive. I don't want to blame one who has mounted the display or one of carry out of the storage room, anyway I don't know how this crack got there. In a way, it's really my fault for not having a look attentive all in store. Personally, I don't mind using this crack, but it's embarrassing because there is a little thought. Any suggestion on what I can do?

  • HP Jet 11: White screen at startup

My 11 HP workflow starts with a white screen on startup. Sometimes responds with a hard reset but still does not work. Have changed the settings to do nothing when the lid is open or start button / stop is pressed, but still problems.

    Hello

Thanks for posting in the Forum from HP Support. Welcome!

Looks like a problem of driver for me.

Make sure that you have applied all the latest drivers and updates from HP.

Please, use Windows Update and check if you have installed all the latest patches.

I would like to know if it works for you.

  • Satellite A85-s107 - white screen at startup by using the power of the battery

Satellite A85-s107 white screen at startup by using the power of the battery

When I boot A85-s107 in battery power, it is get booted up in the background, but my screen is empty.
After that if I connect it to AC power and switch deactivation/activation of the laptop power button, the screen comes back to life.

There is no problem when I start upward when it is connected to an electrical outlet.
Battery is fully charged and computer will work off the battery voltage if I remove AC after boootup

    Any suggestions?

    PS:

also note that when I remove AC and then reconnect I start the computer on two occasions that it does not start the 1st time?

Don t need to recharge the battery if the AC adapter is plugged ;)
Try the tips posted by Alex otherwise it of a hardware problem, in my view, there seems to be something wrong with the motherboard...
In this case, only the replacement could help and it could be a costly affair
