Built-in features of virtual machine Windows Server 2008

4.0 ESX or ESXi 4.0 supports virtual machine built-in capability in Windows Server 2008?

No, Hyper-V can be passed through a guest.

  • Virtual machines, run extremely slow when the console is consulted 2 virtual machines Windows Server 2008 64-bit, Windows Server 2003 32-bit, 2 VMWare for virtual machine

I'm in a difficult situtaition here.  I am the daily contact with a new client.  My linux guy, who is also my boss who is very busy, asked me to do some research trying to find answers for what's not on this server. We have a dual Quad Core 2.5 Ghz Lenovo server with 10 GB of ram.  2 500 GB hard drives are Raid 1.  We run Virtual Server VMWare 2 on a Debian with Gnome installation as a user interface for the side of things Linux.  Grub is the boot loader. There are two virtual machines running on the server.  The one machine that serves as a domain controller is a Windows SBS 2008 Server 64 bit, and the secondary machine has no responsibility domain.  The second machine is a Windows Server 2003 32-bit.  the 10 GB of ram 6 GB is allocated to the SBS server and 4 GB to the 2003 server.

The problem I am running into is that everything is so slow, especially if I connect remotely to do any sort of administration on the network.  Some examples of issues I've noticed is that as soon as I log on the server via Remote Desktop SBS console management Windows Server spike to 80-95% CPU usage and it will not stop unless I close the management console.  Another instance is that if I open Backup Exec 12.5 on the SBS server it will kill the speed of the processor as well.  Long story short, there are a lot of machine to do what we need to do, but something is not configured right and non of us know what it is.  Another point to note is that the server has been in production for about 3 weeks, and the server seemed to have locked up just twice.  My professional guess is that over time, some chose thing is eating causing the crash of the memory.

Sorry I do not have much technical insight on this topic, but this is the best I have to offer.  Any questions you all have, I'll ask my people and see if I can answer, but I could really use your help here.

    Thank you in advance,

    Heath

    2 things:

1 you really need hard drives more than 2 in a RAID 1 for proper performance under load. More disks the better. Although I don't think that's what your problem is, he'll probably be the problem Next you will do.

    2. I don't know exactly where the configuration file is on your box of Debian for VMware Server, but you should consider adding the following options in the configuration file (on windows, it's the vmware 'config.ini'):

    prefvmx.minVmMemPct = "100".

    MemTrimRate = 0

    sched.mem.pshare.Enable = "FALSE".

    mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE".

If you do some research, you can read about what these options (the largest is the memory page sharing - it should only be left on if you have a bunch of similar virtual machines running on the same box, that you don't have.) I honestly know why this is on by default, he kills the CPU when virtual machines are running different operating systems). These are the options that I now use standard in VMware Server deployments, with huge performance increases after you have added the. Just give a try.

Edit: Also make sure that you have installed in your virtual machines VMware tools.

  • FT-record/replay feature is not supported by this virtual machine Windows Server 2012

Recently I came across a bug when I created a virtual machine with the latest versions of 5.1.0 - ESXi 838463, Client ver 5.1.0 - 860230, vCenter ver 5.1.0 - 880146.  If you create a virtual machine on a Server Windows 2012 farm for some reason any recording/playback is disabled and you cannot implement fault tolerance mode.  I found a good solution.  You delete the virtual machine to inventory, and then re-create the virtual machine as a Windows 2008 R2 server and use the virtual machine that you deleted from the original disc of the inventory rather than create a new one.  Then turn on FT.  Then, go into the settings and change the operating system to Windows Server 2012.   Fixed a problem.  If all goes well they will fix this soon.

    Jimmy S.

Default adapter for windows 2012 is E1000E, which is not supported for RecordReplay FT.  If this is the case can you please try with another network card and see if it helps.

If this is not the case, can you please upload vm-support bundle or file a support ticket.

    Thank you

  • Machine virtual RDM + Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hi all

My client is currently going through a hardware installation and upgrading ESX.  They currently have the following configuration

    3 x ESX 4.0 hosts

    1 x Server 2008 R2 Management Server (vCenter)

    1 x 4 TB SAN (Fibre)

They want to create a file server virtual computer (let's call it vFileServer) and then add a vDisk via RDM which must connect a 700 GB NTFS LUN on the SAN.  Then also present this logic unit number on the vCenter server and go directly from here for backups on tape file level.  Installation and configuration of the solution worked without a hitch, however, they have today gone live on the new VM vFileServer, but the data are not updated on the disk of the vCenter server.

When I restart the server vCenter, he runs a ChkDsk on the LUN process, and then updates.

Can someone tell me the solution on how to have these data refresh immediately?  I have run some tests on the vCenter server and data seem to update on the virtual computer successfully, but it only seems to work 1 way.

    Thanks in advance.

This 'vFileServer' VM, have this NTFS this RAW LUN and its disposal.  Then create a share for other servers to access the data on this LUN.  This would be the way to present these data to the other server.  Any "clustering" using the RDM will be available via MSCS

  • Is it possible - installation of a virtual machine with Server 2008 on a disc and use the other drive for storage

I have a Dell power edge server with 2 Configuration of disks 1 TB in raid 0

I can install a Win Server 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2 on a VD without problem, but I do not see the other disk of TB in option within Windows Server to be used as storage SQL only.

How can I get the two disks to appear in Windows server?

    what I want is:

First Dell 1 TB drive VD = Server 2008R2 and SQL on C:\

Second VD Dell 1 TB drive = D:\ like disk storage

do I have to configure the Dell VD another way or is it possible

    Thank you

You basically configure the virtual machine that you want on all the available storage (do not forget to keep free space, for example snapshots). -As I understand it - is so that ESXi does not see the storage! This is often caused by the RAID controllers not taken in charge or the RAID issues. Please check if the RAID controller is supported as well as the configuration. BTW. Why do you want to configure RAID0? If you want to create two virtual disks on warehouses of separate data anyway, simply present to ESXI as two separate disks/volumes.

  • Problem with control of bug 0xC5: DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL on the virtual machine (Windows Server 2012 R2) - TDI vShield Manager error on vnetflt.sys

Hello guys, I'm having this problem:

    KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/Search.do?Language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2081616

The thing is that my ESXi hosts run 5.1 Patch Update 3 7 and this says KB updated to 5.1 Patch Update 2 6.

    No idea what to do?

    Thank you

I just reinstalled the VMware tools without the vnetflt.sys driver and the problem resolved.

  • Converted to a virtual machine (Windows 2003)

    Hi @ all,

I tried to convert a virtual machine (Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition) since an ESXi 4.0.0 Server for our new Cluster (ESXi 5.1.0). After 2 hours of waiting, the process failed at 1% with ' error: event.» DiskCloneFailedEvent.summary ".

ESX server and the virtual machine are in the same network.

Two weeks before I tried the same Conversion, but had to stop due to a colleague, who needs the machine urgently. At the moment the State of conversion was 9% and I think that he would have been success.

Here are the logs of the converter and I hope, someone can help me with this question:

Exactly, it's a common error.  It is always recommended to clean the source server if the conversion has failed or been arrested before

It would be only for development purposes.

No, you would not be able to join the host (Windows 7) for Windows Server 2008 R2. (Chicken and eggs).

You can use Oracle VirtualBox or VMWare Player:

    VMware Player;

  • Cannot ping virtual machine Windows 7 vm Server 2012 [Server R2 2012]

    Hi all

I'm not sure that this is a vmware workstation or server 2012 r2 problem, but I would still ask thought.

I have a 2012 r2 vm server and win 7 vm in a ' host-only: a private network, shared with the host country "network connection.

I can ping the server vm win7, but cannot ping the ""Server the VM win7 ". "

But when I point the win7 dns on the server 2012R2 (that has AD and DNS configured) I can join the virtual machine Windows 7 announcement.

    Its totally weird

Whenever I try to win7 from the ping server, it says "Request Timed Out".

Does anyone know how can I fix?

    I'm using VMWare Workstation 11

    Thank you

Is there a way to get pings without demeaning the whole firewall?

  • Newbie needs help in the installation of Visual Studio in Windows Server 2008 in a new virtual machine created in Workstation 9

I'm extremely new to VMware and hope this is the right forum for a question as fundamental.

I created a new virtual Workstation 9 machine and have installed Windows Server 2008 as the guest OS.  Now, I would like to install Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 in addition to that from a USB key.  How can I get the virtual machine to see the USB so that I can run the autorun.exe installer?

    Thanks for the tips.

Thank you anthonyrr.  That's what I was looking for.
I want to score your like the right answer, but I don't no where to do it.  Needs to be done by the administrator of the forum?

  • Impossible to install windows server 2008 on virtual machine

    Hello

I installed vmware 9 without any problems, but when I create a virtual machine and I want to install windows server 2008 on it, I see this error:

This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit operating systems. However, the 64-bit mode is not possible.
This host supports Intel VT - x, but Intel VT - x is disabled.
Intel VT - x can be disabled if it has been disabled in the BIOS/firmware settings or host was not powered by bicycle since changing this setting.
    (1) check that the settings BIOS/firmware activate Intel VT - x and disable "trust execution."
2 turn on the host if either of these BIOS/firmware settings have been changed.
    (3) turn on the host if you have not done since the installation of VMware Workstation.
    (4) update of the BIOS/firmware from the host to the latest version.

    What can I do?

my laptop is vpccw27fx of sony and its configuration is

    Processor: inter (R) Core i5 M520 @2 cpu. 40 GHz 2.40 GHz

    RAM: 4G

    OS: Win7 64-bit

I mention that the host BIOS/firmware is up to date, but I don't know how to check intel vt - x which is disable or enable. !

    Hello

Restart your laptop and try to get into the BIOS, look for virtualization or VT - x and allow it

  • Cannot import Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V virtual machines to VMware ESXi 4.

    Hi team,

I use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone to import certain Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V virtual machines to VMware ESXi 4, using another Windows Server 2008 R2 as the machine Agent Converter. Well, the agent connects to the Windows VM source very well (I used the net use command to create a line of conduct...), perhaps no chance to connect to the computer target VMware ESxi 4 and make the converter doesn't work...

    Following is the error message:

"Unable to connect to the host specified" from the converter agent machine. " It is perhaps because the host is not available on the network, there is a problem with the network configuration or management on this host services do not react. Check all components of converter to be able to connect.

So, my question is; is it possible to create a work around (like the net use Windows command above) to make possible the connection of the converter Agent on Linux VMware ESXi 4 machine Windows machine, to directly import the virtual machines of Windows Hyper-V to Linux VMware?

    Thanks in advance,

    It's even easier than that

    Use this: http://www.winimage.com/

Which will convert *.vhd *.vmdk, so you don't need to do all this... Of course, another way is to start the machines, leaving them on Hyper-V and go through the network and process virtual machine as physical machines and do a P2V on the network...
