By aligning the dynamic disks

Anyone know if this version offers the possibility of an alignment of the dynamic disks on Windows 2003?

/ SB

Well, the dynamic disks are not preserved during the function clone (unlike LVM) volume and partition alignment is possible only in the volume based on cloning, so unfortunately, the answer is 'no '.

Kind regards

You need to configure raid 0 before installation of win, you cannot "convert" s simple drive to the part of a matrix of blocks.

In general this is not a good idea to use software raid, too a overload the CPU. If you want to raid, invest in a dedicated hardware raid card, which for a decent cost probably more than your motherboard

    Hi Lynda,

I'll be happy to help you with the problem you have with the computer.

To create a dynamic disk volume, you must convert basic dynamic first of all disks. How to convert the basic dynamic disk?

    1. connect you as an administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.

    2. right click on my computer > manage > storage > disk management.

    3. in the lower pane, right-click the basic disk you want to convert, and then click on convert to dynamic disk. You must right-click the gray area that contains the title of the disk on the left side of the details pane.

Warning: After you convert a disk from a dynamic disk basic, local access to the dynamic disk is limited to editions of Windows Windows 2000 at the latest. In addition, after you convert a disk from basic to dynamic disk, the dynamic volumes cannot be changed to partitions. You must first delete all dynamic volumes on the disk and then convert the dynamic disk to Basic.

  • Windows XP - align the disks for VDI

    Hello

If someone actually managed to succeed this procedure following the VMware guide to http://www.vmware.com/pdf/esx3_partition_align.pdf?

    My experience is this:

    • If you create a new vdisk of a Windows XP VM and follow the guide using diskpart.exe, the version provided with Windows XP does not support the attribute align = 64 argument i.e. create primary align partition = 64.  You cannot copy a later version on XP you will get the message incompatible version.

    • Creating a new vdisk of a VM in Windows 7 and with the help of dispart.exe included with Windows 7 don't seem to work.  The disc is released in the MBR and diskpart creates a partition aligned to 64. The next steps are to format the drive with 32 k allocation units which also works.  I have then create my new machine virtual Windows XP, set this new vdisk as my system disk and start build of Windows using the attached driver and controller LSI logic.  Everything seems to work, Windows installs to the hard drive, but after the first reboot I get 'disk read error.  I have proven that it is something to do with what the partition Win7 as if I reformat the partition during the installation, it works.  Also if I create a vdisk std of Win7 with no alignment stuff and that attach to my new VM WinXP, it works too.

    • Finally using the old tool diskpar.exe seems also to align the disc but the CD of Windows XP can not actually see the installation disc.

So after trying all these different options, I still couldn't line up my Windows XP system partition before installing Windows.

Someone has an idea what I am doing wrong?

    Ta!

    Hello.

I guess that's why the 'recommendations for aligning VMFS Partitions' document also States "Note: align the startup disk in the virtual machine is neither recommended nor necessary." "Align the than the data in the virtual machine disks".

It's a bit of a pain.  That being said, in the past, I used the procedure detailed in http://blog.core-it.com.au/?p=281 successfully.

    Good luck!

  • HP recovery partition and dynamic disk!

Just got my new laptop and added a partition of my HP pavilion dv7 WIN 7 64 bit and noticed disc was dynamic. I don't know if it changed the dynamics or as it was delivered. I'll always be able to use the recovery on the dynamic disk partition? And if I create recovery discs, they will work on the dynamic disk or will it convert back to base?

It can work with Easus software, but I'm sure that you need to remove this extra partition before conversion back is possible.

If you need an extra partition, look HERE page on the use of the recovery partition or delete to free up hard disk to create a new partition without conversion by burning a resumption of course the value of dynamic_after.

  • How to convert a dynamic disk to a basic?

How to convert a dynamic disk to a basic? I can't really deleat the C and readers of the system, and if so, how?

    Hi Brad,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for the query display.

According to the description, it seems that you want to convert a dynamic disk to Basic.

However, we need more information about the issue to help you better.

Please help me to answer these questions.

1 how many partitions are on the hard drive?

2 is installed Windows on drive C?

    3. you have any operating system installed on the hard drive?

To convert the dynamic disk to basic, here are some steps that you can try.

You can try to convert the dynamic disk drive basis (except your drive C :) using the Diskpart.exe in the command line. By following these steps, you can avoid reinstalling Windows XP. But if you want all the hard disk as a single partition, then proceed as follows.

Note: Before formatting the hard drive or perform the steps, back up your data to an external storage device.

Steps to convert dynamic disk to basic

    a. press Windows key + r on the keyboard and in the immediate window, type cmd.exe

    b. in the command prompt and type D iskpart .

    c. at the Diskpart prompt, type list disk . Note the number of the disk you want to convert to dynamic.

    d. at the Diskpart prompt, type select disk . (select the dynamic disk you want to convert.)

    e. at the Diskpart prompt, type clean to remove all volumes on the disk.

    (f) then, at the Diskpart prompt, type: convert base to begin to restore the disk to basic training.

Respond us if you have any queries with hard drive problems and we will be happy to help you.

  • Dynamic disks on Windows 7

I created a dynamic disk on Windows 7 64-bit Professional ((6.1.7601) with applicable updates checked 10 minutes ago) by connecting directly to a SATA connection on the motherboard.

I then tried to move the disc to my drive Startech dock (SATDOCK4U3E).  It is connected to my motherboard via USB3.0 connection.  The station has an e-sata connection by my motherboard does not work.  More further by looking at the latest motherboards, e-sata seems to be rare now that there is no Z170 cards mothers registered on TigerDirect or NewEgg.

If I buy an e-SATA card I would be able to use the dynamic disk on my dock player?

I am eager to dynamic disks because I'm moving all my DVD and BluRay discs on the hard drive.  I'll put up several shortcuts to the movies with the bookmarks stored in folders to actors, actresses and directors.  For example, the African Queen shortcuts will be stored under Catherine Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, Robert Morley and John Huston.  As my collection is fairly large (more than 8 500 big crack DVD folders even if some are not complete as the only DVD folder), I am eager to readers as dynamic spanning.  The first single DVD folder filled almost a 4 TB drive.

If Windows 7 is unable to bear this, will be Windows Server 2012?  I think until I have finished using at least 16 hard disks and I would like to clone the disks to a backup set.  If Windows Server 2012 and I have to go for it, Windows Server 2012 supports DirectX 11?

Please forgive me for not to mention Windows 10, but I really prefer to be able to control when I install updates and those who I have install.  I might consider 10 Windows if there are never features on what I want are not on Windows 7.  So far, I have not seen new features I want or need.

    Hi Nathalie,.
I suggest you to send your request here.

    Thank you.

  • How to use mirror Volume to a basic disk without convert dynamic disk

I have two 500 GB Hard Drive attached to my PC running Windows 7.

I want the software Drive (d :)) [hard drive] should be saved automatically on the other hard drive. I learned a lot from the internet about mirrored dynamic disks in volume. in this case, I need to convert the two hard disks dynamic disk.

My question is, are at - it another way to make a record of mirror on the disk on the secondary hard drive without converting the main hard drive on the dynamic disk? [I have no problem to convert the second hard disk to dynamic disk, but I don't want the first hard to convert to dynamic disk].

If it is not possible through Windows, is it any 3rd party software to make a backup without soldering to a different disk without conversion to dynamic disk drive?

    -Http://sites.google.com/site/mustakimali CHRISTOPHE TALUKDER

New - mirroring (how you present) is * not * "backup."  It has similarities-, but it has flaws.

-If something fried two hard drives (possible - more so in fact than only one of the burners to die a natural death) - you have lost everything if it's the only way you were protection of your data.
-If something happens to the whole system (stolen, fire, etc.)-* poof * will the data.
-If you're infested/infected with virus/malware - it affects * two * drives at the same time.
-If something starts erasing/moving/replication to disk - it does both.

You can mirror if you wish; It will decrease your performance in some ways.  It will not * protecting * data except under certain very specific circumstances.  I would still * very * suggest a point-in-time backup solution on * external * same media if you decide to continue with the concept of mirror.  If you really want to mirror - lay material mirror - faster resource / the less intensive/best results.

  • Mounting USB dynamic disk under Windows 7

Hello, I have a computer that is running windows 7, 32 bit.

I have an older hard drive of a computer windows XP I want to retrieve some files of.

The old hard drive is a dynamic disk in windows xp.

I have connected the dynamic disk to my computer windows 7 via a USB cable.

Problem: Windows 7 won't let me up the dynamic disk unless I convert it to a basic disk? If I convert it to a basic disk I will lose you all data.

Question?  How can I mount the dynamic drive USB on a windows 7 without losing any data on the dynamic disk? Do I need special software?

  • snapshots and dynamic disks

    All,

    VMware documentation States the following:

    • You can not go back to a snapshot with dynamic disks, so suspended snapshots are not used when you restore dynamic disks. Snapshot technology has no visibility into the dynamic disks. Dynamic disks are generally known as specific files of Microsoft systems.

Dies of what it means that they are not supported at all, or just suspended snapshots are not supported? What confuses me, is that the snapshot technology has no visibility to dynamic disks.

Well, that needed to be corrected.

    According to vmware:

Do not use the VMware snapshots for backup of dynamic disks. If you take a snapshot of a dynamic disk (specific Microsoft file system), you will not be able to go back to the snapshot. Snapshot technology has no visibility into the dynamic disks and is unable to preserve the State of suspend to disk files.

    Read this: VMware vSphere 5.1

So the overall production is no snapshot will be supported in dynamic disks that the State called 'suspended' will not effect and can not make any changes it all by making the previous snapshot version.

    Hope you guessed it.

    Thank you

  • convert dynamic disk to basic

I have a split/dynamic volume of 2.24 TB on a file server.  I use Veeam to create replicas per day so I work in a lab environment.  The other day, I discovered that I am not at the file level restores using Veeam when using dynamic volumes.  To remedy this, I want to do a combination of the following: shrink, break the span and convert to basic.  I'll start playing now w / the reply, but I am curious to know if anyone has come across this before and if they managed to preserve the existing data as well as the permissions file/part too (pious).

There are three ways to complete this work for you.  Links: 1 convert a dynamic disk to basic disk via the removal of all volumes from the dynamic disk. 2 convert a dynamic disk to basic disk using the Partition recovery software. 3 convert a dynamic disk to basic with NO LOSS OF DATA using the dynamic disk converter Aomei
