Viral, C:\windows\system32\drivers\ect\hosts missing
'C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts' I do not have the file in the folder "etc. and I called my internet support and they said its been hijacked. but when I run a spyware-adware it finds nothing. can someone help me with my problem please? I can't to certain sites like google. It says "the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." neither can not find the server? can you please help someone
'C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts' is a file used by the windows box as similar to a Linux box to define who is a localhost... you wouldn't need a file/etc/hosts if you are on a domain that dhcp will take care of... but however windows is not effective in the treatment in the file/etc/hosts that linux security and therefore translates into browser hijacking...
to get the file/etc/hosts, you have 2 options...
option 1:
* Download HostsXpert funkytoad.com and uncompress (extract) to your
desktop computer:
http://www.Funkytoad.com/download/HostsXpert.zip
* Open HostsXpert from your desktop.
When the following message appears, click on the OK"" button.
o confirmHOSTS file does not exist, press OK to create the file HOSTS, cancel
quit smoking.[OK] [Cancel]
* Close HostsXpert.option 2:-If you like to get your hands dirty...
all you need is a regular text with that inside file:
127.0.0.1 localhostSave as host (no file extension please :)))
and if you really want to be 100% sure that nobody's going to mess with it, change the permissions for everyone: reading/performance.That's right, a whole new file host :)
to change the entries in the hosts file, you can use the command as i.e. elevated command prompt
Linux its "sudo vi/etc/hosts.
for windows, you can use the command "copycon" or use the script of the suite
type hosts. find "127.0.0.1".
If errorlevel 1 (echo 172.29.1.43 > hosts) other outputSave this *.bat file and changing the ip address of which input to... well, this should help...

C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe Application missing - this is the error I get trying to start programs from the start menu. Also, I get errors on the .exe files in the control panel. I can't pull up in my sound options to change the speakers to the headphones, it affects everything. I have the rundll32.exe file but for some reason it isn't let me pull up anything. I can pull some things as an administrator. Most of the programs will shoot to the top of the window 'Open with' and I don't really know what opens to some things, like the sound options window. What is the cause? And how can I solve this problem?

The C:\Windows\system32\mshtml.hlp file is missing
I get this error message if I try to save a picture to e-mail the file C:\Windows\system32\mshtml.hlp is missing. On websites, there are links invisible and images. For example, the squares above this entry are empty, but if I move my cursor over them, the words seem to describe the action of the box, e.g. bold, italic. Help, please. san2h16
0In an attempt to save a photo in Outlook Express, try this, bring up the email with the picture in it and
then upstairs, Clk file and save as and save it in a folder or your desktop. In my case, it opened in
Windows Mail, then I could do a right click on the image and save as.
If you save from Windows mail, it can record as usual.

nothing other than follow install wizard interrupted because usbprint.sys msg
All of the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers folder is missing? If this is the case, I don't know how your system boots. Otherwise, look for usbprint.sys in C:\WINDOWS\system32\ServicePackFiles\i386 if you are running an Intel-based system. Look in \amd64 so it's an AMD based system. You can also find it in C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache.
The easiest way is to copy (but you will have to do it in safe mode).
The best way is to use the System File Checker (SFC) by using the "sfc/scannow" command from the run (start-R) menu. Note that this requires that you have your Windows XP installation CD and the CD for your current Service Pack level. Note that you might have trouble with the Service Pack CD-ROM will be accepted. Read KB900910 if this is the case (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900910 ). This procedure should work for Service Pack 3, too. (I think that the biggest problem with the CD of Service Pack incompatibility is that Windows Update installs a multi-language version, while most of the CD are unilingual and therefore have different product IDS.)

Virus problem? -Unable to access many programs, Windows Components, System Restore
I am reasonably confident that the issue I'm having is the direct result of a virus. The first sign was after recording in the other day, a message popped up that says that my copy of Windows is not valid. After re - validate, I am still not able to access many programs, System Restore, components - run Windows, Control Panel, Defender etc. I already ran several scans-MalwareBytes, Hijackthis, AVG, ZoneAlarm, SuperAnti-SpyWare, Avira, Emsisoft, etc.. Still nothing.

Lack of C:\windows\system32\sshnas21.dll - error message
I get this error at startup: c:\windows\system32\sshnas21.dll is missing or damaged. I don't ' think I have a virus, I had run a check using business AVG and nothing was found last week. I am running again this am. Last night I ran a registry cleaner free trying to fix my Outlook email in question and said the vacuum we found thousands of entries I did not buy the software so that it ran and cleaned only a few entries. He was ParetoLogic pc health advisor. This morning my sidebar does not work. My OS is Vista. I did a search on the problem of dll, it responds to me told to delete all occurrences of sshnas21 of regedit. I opened Regedit it registered 'My computer' with 4 or 5 entries under it. I went to edit/search/trying to find a sshnas but everything came right I wasn't sure if I should delete all or what the devil at this point. My email still will not let me click on links within an email or a word document... my side bar does not, now, I have a msg of error at startup... Help would be greatly appreciated.
I found the answer in another forum... http://en.kioskea.NET/forum/affich-286191-error-loading-c-Windows-System32-sshnas21-DL Thank you commentcamarche! the fixed perfectly.

Is there a download 4.1 with JDK included?
Helloat work, I am not allowed to install a JDK on mine. Therefore, it would be much easier to use 4.1 when I could download a version with the included JDK.ConcerningMarcus
