  Thank you, for your advice Sanal.  It was good advice, but it was the same steps that I had performed several times over the last few days.  It was also the same steps as your colleagues made when they took my computer in 12 hours of chats on Sat, 10-1.

  Symptoms: Booted computer, loaded the raid drivers and showed at the start screen XP for half a second then to BSOD with a Stop error Code 0x0000007E - see also a lot of users (0xC0000001D, 0 x-, etc.) as well.

  Solution:

  1 boot from your Windows XP CD and start the recovery console. You may need to press F6 while RC loads in order to load the SATA drivers. you will have a prompt c:\WINDOWS to the console.

  2. type: CD $NtUninstallKB977165$ \spuninst (it's the update, I had to uninstall to get out of the boot loop, other updates can be uninstalled by changing the name of the directory to $NtUninstallKBCODE$, where KBCODE is the code KB)

  3. type: BATCH spuninst.txt

  4. type: exit

  Don't forget to configure your system to boot from the HD before resuming. I hope this helps. Saved me a lot of hassle today.

  If you are simply trying to select an image file, right click and select send to/recipient of the message, it will not work if you are using the default Windows 8 App Mail.

  You must have a Desktop Email program is installed to do this, such as Windows Live Mail, which is part of the Windows Essentials range.

  To attach the image using Windows 8 Mail App, open the Mail application and select new email message.

  The PDF file is damaged. The last update that was made did introduce this problem. The reason why you don't see this with edge or Chrome, it is that these two browsers come with their own PDF viewers. The document has been created in LiveCycle Designer, which means that it is an XFA form and not a 'normal' PDF form Print edge and Chrome will only display (and therefore treat) the static part of the XFA form, while Acrobat or Reader will look at all the information in the file.

  You can restore the previous version of the file by opening it in a binary editor, then search from the end of the file for the next to last %% EOF (there is one in the last line, you want to get right before that), and then delete anything after that the next to last %% EOF and save it under a new file name. You can now open this newly created file, which will be anything but the last update in it.
