  What version of Win 8.1 is the unit having now? If it's the PRO version, then probably you need to enter a product key if you reinstall.   There are different methods to reinstall Vista.

  There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

  You can contact the manufacturer of your computer, eMachines and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

  They should do this for a small fee.

  My friend laptop is broken and must be reformatted. It is an Acer and did not come with any CD. It doesn't have a partition on the hard drive for files to restore. I think that someone who may have removed it long ago.
