Cache SSD c2100 & LSI 9260-8i

Hello

On a C2100 with a LSI 9260-8i, what are the requirements for cache ssd work? I would add 2 SSDS (internally) to activate this feature, but I don't know if in addition the SSDS, I need nothing else, or if he is still supported on this server with the 9260-8i

Thank you

Asempris,

I apologize, the C2100 does not support the Cachecade, which is the feature you describe using the SSD for the cache. You can also find more information on the C2100 here - http://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_cloud_products/poweredge-c2100_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.pdf

Let me know how it goes.

  • Sensor storage LSI 9260-8i in ESX 5.5

    Hi all

I recently bought a new RAID controller for my 5.5u2 ESXi host. I chose the LSI 9260-8i to cause the positive reviews, price and compatibility 5.5. The main objective of the new RAID controller was to add the visibility of table in ESXi "State of material" and to allow management from a virtual machine via the MegaRAID Storage Manager. I flashed the 9260 with the latest firmware and then installed 5.5u2. The LSI RAID controller was found and both my drives are available and work as expected.

Unfortunately, I have none is a sensor of storage in the status tab of the hardware. I tried to installed the Legacy and native drivers as the latest SIGS, all found HERE. I had success the legacy driver update but PMI would not update.

Please respond if you have an LSI 9260 with 5.5 ESXi. I'm curious in the storage sensor is visible to you.

    Thank you!

What do you mean by "PMI would not be updated"? I've updated smis-provider with:

    # software esxcli vib install d ' / path/VMW-ESX-5.x.0-lsiprovider-500.04.V0.54-0004-offline_bundle-2395881.zip '.

.. .and everything went well. After the reboot, I can see State of health in the Hardware tab.

BTW, you have 5.5 ESXi, you probably use VMW-ESX-5.5.0-lsiprovider-500.04.V0.54-0004-2371726.zip, listed as a provider of PMI for 5.5.

But have you tried the other one, VMW-ESX-5.x.0-lsiprovider-500.04.V0.54-0004-2395881.zip, for 5.x?

And one more thing: your controller reports its health status at least using the tool (storcli, megacli)?

The number displayed under the MMIC is for the cache lines rather than the size of the global cache.  If you SSH into the MMIC and run the following commands look for the size of the memory and it should say 512 MB for 9260-4i.

  • HP Z820 - BIOS 02.55 rev A - SSD on LSI SAS 2308 do not start... "Non-system disk...". »

    Hello

MY Z820 workstation is equipped with an Intel 520 240 GB SSD as boot drive, on the integrated LSI SAS 2308 controller. It is a GPT disk.

I just tried to update my BIOS Rev 02.08 Z820. at 02.55 a. rev.

The update succeeded, and in the BIOS, I check that all the settings are the same as before the update. On the boot, however, I get an error saying "Non system disk or disk error."

Mass strorage option ROM is set to EFI mode.

No matter what the settings, it does not start in Windows.

I started 02.08 BIOS Rev A and now all is well again.

Is there a compatibility issue with the BIOS 02.55 Rev A combo, Intel SSD 520 and LSI SAS 2308?

    Kind regards

  • Activation of Cache SSD 32 GB on XPS 2720

I just got a Dell XPS 2720 of decision-making and it rocks so hard, except that I can't get the job of SSD cache and it is so annoying because I paid extra for it.

    So far:

    • I got the computer and clean installed 8.1 with RAID mode in BIOS.
    • Installed all the drivers and updates etc.
    • Open Intel Rapid Storage to enable Smart Response, but the acceleration tab is missing. Performance shows only a power management option.

I tried to use diskpart to clean the SSD, initialize it in the MBR, GUID, creating a RAW partition, etc. and a ton of combinations of things in disk management, but I can't get TSRI give me this option of accelerating.

Does anyone have some luck with this?

Everyone seems to have a different story how to push the cover SSD RST at work, so here's mine:

After a disk crash I had to reinstall Windows 8 and update to Windows 8.1. For some reason, I'm done with a recovery at the beginning and at the end of the disk partition. It seems that the option to accelerate the RST does not appear if the last partition is not the operating system.

After I deleted the partition recovery with the diskpart utility (select the disc, select the partition, delete partition override) and the partition of the BONE at the end of the disc, the acceleration tab appeared and Smart Response works! If the error was not the mSATA SSD, but the structure of the partition on the disk to the operating system.

So I guess that, if the OS partition is not the last partition on the disk, the Smart Response option will not be displayed. Intel should really document this better.

  • Caching SSDS on Inspiron One 2330 turn on/off before/after backup Image C:

My new Inspiron one 2330 works under 64-bit Windows 8 and SSD Caching-as put in place by DELL

Before I run Acronis True Image 2013 to generate a backup Image of your hard drive, I need to disable the SSD Cache.
Otherwise the restored Image cannot start successfully - because the content of the HARD drive would be incorrect.
After the backup is completed and verified, I need to turn on SSD Caching.
To do this, I want to insert a command-line command before / after the backup operation in the Acronis program options.

    So my Question is actually:
What command line command (C: /...) can I use to make the switch or disable the Cache of 8 SSD 64-bit WIndows?

    Thank you!

    Hello Reinhard Klein,

You can follow the steps below in order to dissociate the SSD cache:

You can create an image with Acronis and then follow the steps below to reassociate SSD cache:

Note: Dell has not tested or approve the use of Acronis True Image to create a backup of the image.

    I hope this helps.

Answer: IMO, cache ssd is no longer since you already have an equal or faster ssd drive.

Answer: You can deleted or you can format and use it as a data disc.

  • Host SSD cache - how much required

recently installed ESXi (free) to use domestic test/study. ESXi starts on the USB.

I have 2 SSD for storage, a 1 to for VMS and a 64 GB for the cache host.

How does the host cache requires? I ask because I would like to use a part of the disk cache host to a dir on it to store ISOs of the OS I want to install on the 1 TB drive and test.

ESXi host does not host any-cache. The power of virtual machines. How many? Depends on how much you commit too host-RAM. If you do not commit too much RAM, you need not the host cache. And if you book all the vRAM to virtual machines, you do not have same virtual machine swap file (with vRAM booking 100% it will not be created).

In the worst case (when commit you too much RAM, no work of sharing/compression/balooning and all virtual machines all use the vRAM you assigned to them) you may need to host-cache of size SSD:

    'summary_of_vRAM_assigned_to_all_VMs' - 'host_RAM_available_for_VMs '.

But if your host-cache SSD is smaller, it will be used anyway. And when it is full, 'normal' permutation will be used (with VM paging files).

  • ESXi 5.1u1, Mo 2xsata3 ports, you want to add SSD cache but what port?

    Hi all

This is my first post and I'm not speaking English, so I'll try to explain my question in the best conditions.

We run esxi 5.1u1 on a small server with office components:

    -i5 - 3570 k [could get i5-3570 non - K]

-z77 motherboard (msi g43) [could get Q77 Board from gigabyte]

-16 GB of ram ddr3 1600 mhz non - ecc

-2xHDD western digital RED 2 to each, no raid

    -backup to NAS

and on 10vm between linux and windows guests (usually only 6 are in normal production [AD, FS, PBX), to manage a network of 4 desktops.

We ask to add a SSD 120gbSATA3 caching, using build-in functionality of ESXI 5.1u1, but we have a problem on the choice of the correct configuration of the disk since we only 2 port sata3.

    1. Hard drives are sata3 and actually connected to the sata3 ports 2 (Controller intel);
    2. We've got to other 4-port sata2 on a different construction to the controller;
    3. We can afford a raid at the moment card;
    4. should we put on the benefit from the speed of cache sata2 ssd, or the only way is sata3?

    Thanks in advance.

You can put on sata2 SSDS (interface is backward compatible), but you will suffer serious non-performance. With sata3 you get 600 MB/s transfer speed, with sata2 just 300 MB/s (taking into account encoding 8B / 10B). And consumers of today SSD sequential transfer rate is approaching even this maximum limit of sata3 interface (i.e. Samsung 840Pro: 520 / 540 MB/s). If you put on sata2 SSDS, you will seriously degrade its performance, perhaps to half of its capacity. If you want to use for caching SSDS, I wouldn't put the SSD on sata2 interface.

I would of put HDD sata2 rather (and use for SSD sata3 ports). With the exception of the disk cache, without disk hard common has over 300 MB/s transfer speed. He could suffer from degradation in performance a little too much when using cache, but is not as much as the SSD...

  • Performance of SSD data store

I'd like to get some info on whether or not there are specific settings ESXi for best performance of VMs, sitting on a SSD data store.

    Configuration of the laboratory:

    LSI 9260-8i RAID card

8 x 500 GB Samsung 830 SSDs (TLC, terrible I know), RAID5 (Yes, I must have parity protection)

I've constantly tweaked the 9260 and RAID settings to achieve the best possible configuration according to my bearings: 128 KB stripe size, direct IO, reading ahead, disk cache enabled, rewrite with BBU...

I see that a fairly large performance hit comparison performance native RAID performance vs windows in ESXi when I transplant the same RAID card/SSD in my lab and test ESXi host from inside a virtual machine.  Understood, it is fresh generals of the hypervisor and then overload the virtual machine... but still...

Looking for someone who has experience with a similar configuration and can provide suggestions/settings...

    Thanks in advance!

You have option FastPath? This will significantly improve i/o for SSD performance.

I would also create RAID-50 for the SSD 8.

  • ENVY 15-K202NT: SSD Slot m2

    Hi all

I read a lot of resources on this forum about M.2 SSD abot slot and I have a few questions.

First of all, I want to replace this SSD with a capacity of higer and install the operating system to this ssd without removing the HARD drive. I mention this because someone said to remove the HARD disk to boot from m2 due to the limitations of the BIOS but another says you can fix with the settings. My first question is this possible?

My second question is if replace SSD HARD drive without removing M.2 SSD will it become a problem later? Due to the older SSD has short life of reading / writing and cache ssd made these operations every time as a primary hard drive and maybe HP used an older technology on the SSD m2.

And the last question is if I delete complately m2 SSD can I boot from 2.5 HARD drive with no problems?

    Thank you very much.

Yes, you have a hybrid drive. The 8 GB NAND is built into the hard drive. I do not believe that your model with the screen 15-inch has a slot m2, only versions of 17 inches. So if you want an SSD there should be only a 2.5 inch SATA SSD.

  • Hide SSD SSD for the system

I replaced my hard drive with a 500 GB ssd. My question is can I remove the old 16 GB of cache to my pc, I think that I should, but was informed to keep connected this will always help start time.that does not because for me, anyone know the answer to this.thanks

    Hello

Review this alert HP.  In this post notes that you can only speed up the main hard drive. Don't forget to disable the cache before setting up the new SSD 500 as the primary device.

The cage of your PC hard drive should be able to manage three devices according to service information that I just reviewed. If this information is correct and then use a for the new SSD 500 sata power splitter if an available sata power connector is not available in the region of hard drive cage.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You should be able to use the Intel SATA controller technology cache speed up a secondary device. The procedure to do so is rather complicated.

If you want to use the cache acceleration technology Intel then you must go into the bios and set the SATA RAID storage mode.

I would then use the external HP recovery media to reload the new SSD and then return copies the data from the disk hard drive to wish to have on the main unit. Once this process is complete, then I suggest to use the original hard drive and 16 GB SSD together as a data storage device "back shop". Go to TSRI (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) in the control panel and Setup and match acceleration cache SSD with HDD.

I suggest that the download and install the latest driver TSRI.

Depending on the level of your PC bios, additional steps may be required.  Review HP recovery procedures.
