Call cold Advance Windows Care PC Helpdesk - Bona Fide?

I received a phone call from PC Help Desk, Advance Windows care explaining that they know my system has a problem and that they got my information from my record of Microsoft.  With the help of windows R Eric showed me the warning and sign on eventvwr and msconfig error and provided a number of cmd and Assoc.  He wants access to my laptop in order to analyze the issues that prevented several items from Microsoft (shown on the entry in msconfig).  I have AVAST protection (running), but he suggested will not sort out all the problems already on the computer and that I should have Norton or McAfee instead.

I'm no IT competent (other than being able to use the software), but this call was not asked.  It of a real call and do I need to allow access to the laptop to identify the problem.  Thank you

This is a scam and that is becoming more and more common lately. But
worse, if you leave them in your computer, which knows what losses are that they
done there, or what confidential information they stole.

So if you have done so, I highly recommend that you do both of the following
immediately:

1 do a clean reinstall of Windows.
2. change all of your passwords, especially banks or other
financial sites.

I deleted "Microsoft Download Manager" thought it was a temp program (not paying attention!)  Now I programs looking for paths!  The figure that it took a lot of information with it.

I have advanced system care and can see all the things that I deleted in the last two days (and that's a lot) it's in the jargon...  Windows XP SP3 32-bit
I know it's a long shot, but can someone help?

Yes, at the time of the download, not sure that I need, but now I do what I have programs that can not open or cannot perform when they do.

So, to retrieve the 'ways' of things...

Can you give an exact message of one or two of them?

PATH NOT FOUND covers a lot of ground - but it would be good if there is more to it and a program of a name or two that gives you this question.  (So we know if it is only third stuf or Microsoft and other third-party things.)

Have you tried to reinstall the stuff that gives you errors?

  • Beware of the scam "Windows Care" - have you been contacted by this group?

Earlier today (February 13, 2015) I received a call from a representative of "Windows Care."  My phone number has shown not available 1-000-000-0000, regret picking up the phone.  An individual strong accent probably (India or Pakistan) knew my name and tried to scare me giving him access to my computer (Note: your name and phone number are public and readily available documents).  I played the game for a few minutes.  He informed me that his company manages Microsoft software problems and called to warn me that my computer was being hacked.  To prove that my computer has a problem he directed me to accomplish the following acts - press / hold the Microsoft key and press R.  He asked me type eventvwr.  At this point I asked the phone number and Web site - after the reception I ended the call.

The provided phone number was (786) 245-1265 and the website www.windowscare.us.  I really hope there's a way Microsoft can follow the thief and put them out of business.

No! It is not without danger.

Registry cleaning programs are all snake oil. Cleaning of the
registration is not necessary and is dangerous. Let alone register and
do not use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and
What software record cleaning suppliers are trying to convince you,
have unused registry entries is not really make you hurt.

The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner by mistake
delete an entry you need is much greater than any potential benefit
    It can have.

    and also
    http://blogs.technet.com/markrussinovich/Archive/2005/10/02/registry-junk-a-Windows-fact-of-life.aspx

You can also read the section on the registry of CCleaner
    Here cleaning product:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/113382/how-to-use-CCleaner-like-a-Pro-9-tips-tricks/

Let me stress that neither me nor anyone else who warns the
use of registry cleaners never said that they always cause
problems. If they have always caused problems, they would disappear from
the market almost immediately. Many people have used a registry
cleaner and never had a problem with it.

The problem with a registry cleaner is that it carries with it
the risk of a significant problem. And since there is no
benefits of using a registry cleaner, running that risk is a very bad
    good deal.

I felt that it was a separate subject than this thread.

The thread was about a question I had with the plugin not show and this thread is more a general question.

I referred to the plug-in here to avoid time wasting people telling me to this topic.
