Yes, you are right not to trust that it is not windows or any part of Microsoft support services.
This is a complete scam and one that has become very common these days. . Don't think anything such a caller said, do nothing that he tells you to do and hang up on him immediately.

Phone call of support of Windows said I have a virus
I received a call from an Indian man today telling me that it was Windows Support and that my system had a virus on it, and it was dangerous. I stopped the man and told him that a relative of mine has had the same call and that she had checked that it was not Microsoft and Windows wouldn't contact me by phone unless I had contacted and asked them to call me. He tried telling me that if I didn't do that he asked that the system would get slower and more slowly and eventually fall down, I told him bluntly that I didn't believe that it was Windows and he was trying to sell me something that I really don't need that I have Norton 360 and had not flashed up problems with viruses. He told me that Norton 360 was not very good and it would still leave virus (a lie). I then asked where he got my number as I don't give, if I can help, he said, it is based on a questionnaire (which I had not filled in), I told him that I was a member of the GST with BT and I didn't talk to him more, and he could be sentenced to a fine for call me cold and then put the phone down.
These people don't realize that there are actually certain IT savvy computer owners out there, what really gets me, is that they tell us that they got our information from questionnaires or market research when we have not completed anything, either online or other.

Is there such a thing as the supported Windows and Service Centre, Tel. 02032866214, or is it a phone scam?
If someone rings you claiming to be from Microsoft and that you did not go to Microsoft you call, then it is a scam. Microsoft never make these requested no calls to technical support. Do not let them give any info, do not give access to your PC, not give them all the money and do not go to all the websites that they suggest. One moment. See:

Calls to scam of supposed "Windows Support".
I live in the United States and received a phone call today from someone who claims to be from Windows Support and the Canada. They said that my computer sent error reports and that 85% of my software has been altered. They said they had a difficulty for her, and the service was free. I guess it was a fraudulent call. How can I report it? I have a callback number.

Fake call? I received a call today from someone claiming to be Windows Support
original title: fake call?
Today, I got a call from someone claiming to be Windows Support, saying he was getting my computer error messages. I (stupidly) allowed remote access to my computer and I was told that there were a great many virus that needed to be removed or it would break. While he was trying to sell my software I bcan suspect and ended the call. Now, I am very worried that if it was a fake call, could he have installed something on my computer, or access personal information, and how do I know?
Please read the responses from the link at the end.
Pay attention to what Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP.
Already, you let the sammer with access remotely. Nothing else short of reinstalling Vista and change your account and the password will save your computer.
Do it NOW.http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistasecurity/thread/4489f388-d6de-416d-9158-0079764bb001 For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

I use Vista 64 Ultimate.
The last item I have installed is iTunes 8. I managed to install, but a few hours later the error pops up.
I can download is nothing more.
I can't install anything. When I go into computer management and try manually a start, I get this:
"Windows cannot start the Windows Installer service on Local computer. "Error 216: 0xd8.I can't update anything.
As I said earlier, when I try to download anything, it looks like it is downloading but no files appear in fact where they should be.
Please help, I have ALL my work on this computer and I didn't save anything. :(
Hi VVinter
Thank you for using the Microsoft Answers Forums!
We can try a few steps listed below and check.
Step 1:
Run an on-line analysis of your PC of malicious software:
If you want to scan your computer for malware and potentially unwanted on a Web site, please use the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner.
You can also run Anti-Malware on your computer. Follow the steps in this link:
Step 2: Windows Service install
To check if the Windows Installer service is set to Disable, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click run, type services.msc in the Open text box, and then click OK.
- In the list of Services (Local) , right-click Windows Installer, and then click Properties.
- If the drop-down list Startup type is set to the value off, select the Manual option in the drop-down list Startup type , Start the service and then click OK.
- Click the file menu, and then click exit.
You can also try to download the latest Windows Installer and install it:
Note: Uninstall one already present in your system to-> program and features in the control panel.
Hope this information was useful.
Let me know if it worked.
All the best!

Phone call from Windows Support is authentic?
I just got a phone call from a man named Philippe de Windows Support. He said that he was receiving reports of errors in my windows and asked me to check Computer Management Applications to find errors. He asked me to remove these errors. I could not remove so he said: if I went to a Web site that he could delete them for me. I refused to let him to the computer via the code and said that I would like to remind him. His number was 02032865123, he said, that it has been supported Windows. He had an Indian accent. It is a call?
It's my son e-mail account, but it will transmit to me.This is HOAX and FAKE for sure. Microsoft will never contact you unless call you them first and ask for help. Microsoft will never know which PC encourage error.
I suggest you take a look at:

Microsoft has none of the unsolicited telephone calls to help you fix your computer
