Can a "uninstalled" Vista Upgrade be installed on another machine?

For various reasons of Dingo, I want to update a computer XP MCE to Vista.  Best price on the upgrade of Vista in my area is a copy that has been installed and then uninstalled.  My question is, the software still allows to update * my * machine?  It is I think I understand that the upgrade process essentially disabled the XP he license upgrades, but is it become "attached" to this license?  Thanks in advance for any info!

Doug

If it's a copy retail Vista Upgrade or full installation disc (and you need is product key to go with it to activate the system - yours won't work) then it is perfectly valid, but you will probably need to activate Vista manually after the installation.  It is not reallly invalidate your XP license - it could be used again if you want to re - install XP on the same computer (if it's a sense of OEM license it installed on the computer, it cannot be used on any other computer but that it came installed on).  If it was a copy to the detail of XP that you purchased separately then it can be moved to another computer.  The licenses for the two products are separated and do not cling.  If the Vista disc is a disc of some other computer OEM you should not buy it because this product key can be used on any machine that it was orriginallly installed on and if you try you will be impossible to activate.

To activate manually, go to start, search, and type in slui 4 enter.  Enter your country and press Next.  You will be on a screen with a phone number and a bunch of codes below.  Dial the number and browse automatic guests until you get to a human being.  Have your handy product code because it will be asked.  Explain the situation, but it's the same PC and only installed on this PC.  They should give you a code to enter on this screen to activate Vista.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

  • How can I uninstall Vista and put Xp back on__

How can I uninstall Vista and put Xp on, Windows Installer could help to put Xp back on?

General information about replacing Vista with XP:

    A. on a computer OEM (HP, Sony, etc.):

    1. go to the OEM Web site and find the XP drivers for your specific model computer. If there is no XP drivers, you can not install XP. End of the story. If there are drivers, download them and store them on a CD - R or USB thumbdrive. you will need after installing XP.

    2. check with the OEM - either since their technical support site, either as - to see if you will cancel your warranty if you do this. If void you your warranty, you make the decision.

    3. If the OEM supports XP on the machine, call them and see if you can qualify to demotion and ask them to send you a XP restore disc. This is by far the easiest and best way to put XP on the machine.

    4. if XP is supported on the machine but OEM does not have a disk to restore XP for you, understand that you will need to buy a copy of XP to your favorite online or brick/mortar store retail.

    5. also understand that you will need to do a fresh install of XP, so if you have any data you want back first.

    6. If none of the above applies to you because you can't run XP which return (see point 1 above), the computer of the machine and buy a running XP instead.

    B. on a generic/home computer built (of the non - OEM company)-you will need the drivers for all your hardware. See the second link below for more details:

  • Can I use Vista Upgrade product key on the SAME machine?

I upgraded my Vista Home Premium to XP media Center computer, and now my computer runs very slowly.  I have 1 GB of RAM, but isn't enough for Aero?  So... what I really do is to perform a new installation to refresh my computer, but I can do after already using my key product upgrade once? (Now I have an external HARD drive to back up my data... I didn't when I upgraded).  The new facility will be used with the same upgrade DVD and product key, and it will be used on the SAME machine.  This is allowed, or vista become inactive and I lose Vista completely?

Yes you can reinstall Windows Vista by using the Windows Vista Upgrade activation disk works perfectly. Make sure you have your 25-digit product key.

Also, make sure that you have installed once are not dual boot.

My advice is that you bring a new installation with Service Pack 1 disc as shown here:

Follow the instructions for installation, as in this case:
Please note that the guide is basis of Dell, F12 can be a different key on your machine and you need to get your site system drivers from your computer manufacturer Web but most of the others in the guide apply to all windows based computers.
  • How can I uninstall windows 8 and install windows 7 on an Inspiron 17R SE 7720

I bought my Inspiron 17R SE with Windows 8 installed in December 2012. I tried my best to become familiar with Windows 8, but most of the time I do love. I tried to use the classic interface so it looked like Windows 7 but I still don't like it.  It seems to me that Windows 8 be not really suitable for the use of the laptop.

I want to uninstall Windows 8 and install my own copy of Windows 7 Pro, but I do not know if it will install on a laptop at the origin of installation for Windows 8.  I asked Technical Support on this issue, but I was told that Dell would not support this so they couldn't help me.

Can anyone here help me with detailed instructions on how to achieve what I want... I read that the needs of settings in the Bios to be changed before I start but do not know what to do.

    Thank you

  • How can I move windows 7 (not OE), to another machine after upgrade to windows 10?

I have a machine that has Windows 7 Ultimate installed on it, as a clean install from a CD with a code.  I upgraded this Windows 10 machine and I want to spend the nec plus ultra 7 to another machine.  How to "Uninstall" or "Turn off" Windows 7 in the computer being upgraded so that I can activate it on another computer after a clean install?

If you upgrade Windows 7 Ultimate edition free update of Windows 10, you cannot move Windows 7 Ultimate edition to another machine because the free update used Windows 7 Ultimate edition as an eligible basic license.

Only if you have installed a full version of Windows 10 license would you be able to transfer the license of Windows 7 to a new computer.

Otherwise, you will need to purchase a new license of Windows 7.

  • I've set to upgrade to W8 can I transfer my old W7 license on another machine?

3 PC for Windows 7 license usually means that you have the Home Premium 'Family Pack' which is an 'Upgrade' of Windows 7 version.

    (1) If you have used a version of "Downloading" or a boxed version of Windows 8, then you cannot use / transfer the product key of Windows 7 on another computer, as it was the basis for the upgrade to Windows 8.

    (2) If you used a version OEM/System Builders of Windows 8 (which only allows you to perform a "Clean" installation) then Yes you can re - use the product key of Windows 7 on another computer, but he will need to phone activation.
