Can I do a restore to factory on a gateway MX-6349 w/o the disks?

A friend recently gave me a portable MX-6349 Gateway with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.  The Windows XP sticker and the product key are still intact at the bottom of the laptop.  The laptop has a large number of software and spyware malware on it.  I want to do a full factory restore.  However, I tried to run the system restore, and it asks me for the discs.  I don't have these disks.  Is it possible to do a restore without them?  I contacted gateway for information on disks, and they said they no longer provide disks to restore for computers over three years.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello

Unfortunately, you cannot restore factory on a bridge without disc.

Hope this information is useful.

    Hello

System Restore puts your computer's settings to a date earlied.

You mean that recovery of the system.

There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

    Hello

In this case, the machine boot CD and select fresh installion will be the best option. To be able to boot from the CD, you must change the BIOS startup sequence. Please:

    • Restart the machine to access the BIOS by pressing F10 (repeatly shortly) during the initialization of the process (before Windows logo turns upward).
    • Once you're there, select the Advanced tab.
    • Then select CD/DVD
    • Press F10 to save and exit.

After that, put the CD of XP installtion for machine and restart.

    • It was bought by my father's business (I used to work there).

Restoring to factory settings formats the disc, and which erases
everything what he. You probably get something new, but you can
try to do a search on the web for a recovery program that unformats the reader
    like here: http://www.easeus.com/resource/unformat.htm

If you unformat the drive successfully and can recover lost files
back, the first thing you should do copy on an external
(CD, DVD, USB sticks, external hard drives, etc.).
    Two other points/questions:

    1. why restore you to the factory settings? This is usually the worst
approach to solve a problem, there's a lot of extra long hard
work and often leads to problems of its own (as it did here).

    2. I assume you have no backup on external media from your
photos of important files etc. In this case. you played with
the fire. You can read this article on the backup that I wrote:

Restore to factory state out of the box. Can I install all updates from Microsoft using Windows update or can I install antivirus first before to connect to internet?

Currently Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 x 86 (no patches since 2008). Currently, it has no AV and has not been connected to the internet yet. It will be behind a router.

I had to redo the factory already reset after be connected to the net for 20 minutes and then a bunch of programs kept crashing saying Data Execution Prevention had to close the program StackHash and BEX error when executing update for HP drivers.

Maybe I installed Kaspersky first next time?

    What should I do?

    Thank you!

No problem. Install the updates. You can install the anti-virus later.

Just don't start browsing the inet by updating.

Hey... I don't think I have that much to say to be honest.

My laptop is just terrible, and I want to restore it to factory settings.

However, when we received our laptop (who was not with the purchase, but to win a prize) it has not come with a CD. So I can not restore its factory settings.

Now my problem is that, unlike other products from Dell, the Latitude series does not come with a choice of restore laptop to factory settings is when you press F8 for advanced startup options. So, I have no possible way to restore it to its default value.

Is there a way I could do? Possible a code of command prompt? I'm not sure. Please help me. My laptop broke down right and it does not work for me any time soon.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Or borrow a suitable Microsoft Vista DVD (not HP, Acer, recovery disk/s etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

  • New HARD drive. Can't restore using factory CDs. CD Error Message

    Hello world

I have a less than 2 years, Compaq CQ62-310AU and the HARD drive has failed.

I ordered a replacement HARD drive and installed.

I checked that the CD Rom is set on first start from in the BIOS.

When I start the computer with recovery disk 1 in the drive, I get the error message:

Device ATAPI IDE CD P2.00 version

    Unable to detect ATAPI

ATAPI device driver is not installed

Thus, it seems that the CD is not recognized.

I would really help this - I called the HP Support but they said I can't install a replacement HD and restore from the factory CD, because it * could * be my HD must be 'cloned' with my motherboard BUT he said maybe if I buy their CDs recory instead of use the mine it might work. To me, it sounded very strange indeed (why would their drives work if cloning should indeed, if the disks provided with the laptop do not work?)

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello:

I can't help with the immediate problem, but if you don't think that the DVD drive is bad, try to make your own installation of W7 DVD, if you can read all 25 characters of the product key of W7 on the bottom of your PC.

    Here's how:

If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.

  • the last IOS installation froze my iphone 6 and iTunes says that it needs to be restored to factory settings.

Install the last IOS froze my iphone 6. iTunes shows it must have installed at the factory. How can I back up all my data?

You will get the option to "update" only when force you it into recovery mode. you might get lucky. If you cannot update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If she needs a complete restoration to factory settings then get what you can from iCloud and all other internet accounts that you use.

Synchronize what you can save on your computer also.

You can re - download apps etc for free, but if you do not have a return to the top, then you can only look at the expensive data recovery options

If you do not have to restore as new then make sure to run iCloud back ups or regularly back up on iTunes before you do updates in the future.

  • Cannot restore to factory of the Satellite L350

    Hello

I was having problems with Vista so a friend recommended that I tried ubuntu.

But now I want to go back to vista, but I can't get my laptop to run restore.
I tried now pressed 0 while turn also by pressing f8 but it always starts just as usual.

The Toshiba recovery disc creator isn't on my computer either. I do not have the disks of Vista, but if I remember correctly that my laptop never came with them, I am really stuck on what to do.

    Satellite L350

    Hey,.

I'm a little confused about your ad Mr. you wrote that you tried Ubuntu but you have installed Ubuntu and Vista deleted or was it just a live Ubuntu disc?

The Toshiba HDD Recovery feature is described here:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm

But something more: the HDD recovery works only with the version preinstalled Windows from Toshiba, so if you have installed another OS or an upgrade, this option doesn't work anymore.

And you're right: the laptop doesn t come with Toshiba Recovery disk because you must create this disk you use Toshiba recovery media creator which is preinstalled. This tool will create a boot disk with a picture of settings which can be restored each time unlike HARD drive recovery which works only with the original installed OS.

To cut a long story short, just ordered a Toshiba Recovery disk and install it. Then you have the back factory settings :)
