  I recently bought a Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB Solid State Drive for mid 2012 MacBook Pro father. The computer was working properly, but it was just very slow.   Most likely, the drive is formatted for use with Windows computers. First step would be to format correctly for Macs.

  This is Mac OS extended (journaled) with a GUID partition map.

  OS X will only be installed on a properly formatted disk.
