  First, it could be useful that you posted your question to a Microsoft Office for Mac forum as opposed to this one, for the model 12 "retina MacBook early 2015.

  If you use the updated Office 2008 DVD, it may not install unless it detects the presence of an earlier version of Office, for example, Office 2004. It is difficult to remember how the installer works because I have not used in the last 7 years or so.

  Windows Update downloaded & tent install 4 Security updates Office: KB2596672, KB2596785, KB2596880, KB259 7162 on a Dell Inspiron 1525 under Vista Home Premium (32B OEM).  Vista has recently updated SP2 to date on this subject, as well as several other updates installed successfully.

  The Windows Update program reports 8007064 A error code when the 4 latest updates (above) do not settle.  In addition, the start-stop button tries to install the 4 updates at shutdown down, but after restarting Windows Update displays initially "updates installed" but moments later found then '4 updated important"which are the same 4 KBs... and the cycle repeats again.  "Installed updates" do NOT show these 4 updates installed, and 'View Update History' shows the installation tries to these 4KBs as being down.

  Researching the issue online, I came across a number of different possible causes that I follow suggested solutions, none has solved the problem.  Here is a summary of the actions:

  • has run several sessions of Fixit (fix MSI, .net, fix Windows Update solution); FixIt MSI has not reported any problems, just tell it "fixed"; Fix Windows Update said that he found a problem with the 'configuration' and once downloaded/installed a Vista "Fix" KB.
  • has run dotnetfx_cleanuptool to remove all .net facilities (except 1.0 & 2.0 that are part of the operating system).  Subsequently downloaded/installed .net 1.1, 1.1SP, 3.5, 3.5SP (in that order).
  • the dotnetfx_cleanuptool repeated removal and reinstall .net but added .net 4 Client Profile install (via Windows Update when he found).
  • Index possible (or separate problem?): when you try to uninstall or repair .net 4 Client Profile in devices programs & shortly after the msi starts and collecting information, it reports the following error "blocking problems: cannot run the installer in compatibility mode of program."  I can't understand how to force NOT to run in compatibility mode (Please indicate).
  • Ran System Update Readiness Tool KB947821, which claimed to fix some things.
  • Tried to run Windows Update after restarting mode safe mode (with networking), but could not get it to start (is it possible?)

  All the other updates installed correctly, which several of them since the problem started that occur.  My impression is that it is still probably a problem of Windows Update (not an office).
