  This PC (host A) is a box, that we used to install ESX 3.5.  Motherboard is Intel D975XBX2 and Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40 GHzCPU.  I updated the BIOS to the last, and his memory is 8G.  ESX 3.5 can work on it very well.

  What is the optical drive that you use to install with? Just for grins, double check that it is a dvd - rom (at least). I had problems installing on old one hardware because it is only to have a cd player (no dvd read ability). It would be to start it from the media, but fails when installing (not sure how it could, but it does)...

  As ESXi 4 is installed, you could just opt for this version. You can get the console (on the host) enabled through the directions here (including SSH access)... I did on my ESXi host and then just use putty to open a connection with it for the execution of orders. The main site (http://vm-help.com/index.html) has some good additional information on this topic... Interesting to watch if nothing else.
