Can satellite M100-166 - I switch to 4 GB of RAM?

Hello!
I have a Satellite M100-166 (PSMA1E-01X00TPL) with 2x512MB of RAM (DDR2). I would like to upgrade to 2x2gb, but there is a problem.
In the manual it says: "256, 512 or 1024Mo memory modules can be installed in two locations of main memory to a maximum of 2048 MB memory system"

BUT:

On the product page
http://CE.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/innovation/JSP/supportMyProduct.do?LNG=20&service=CE#tab0;
(hotlink doesn't work, search for Satellite M100-166)

Kingston Memory Configurator:
http://www.EC.Kingston.com/Ecom/configurator_new/modelsinfo.asp?ID=1&SysID=29403&MFR=Toshiba&model= Satellite + M100 & search_type = & root = us & LinkBack = http % 3A % 2F % www.kingston.com&Sys=29403-Toshiba-Satellite+M100-166&distributor=0&submit1=Search 2F

and even the product page for the Intel chipset
http://www.Intel.com/products/Notebook/chipsets/945PM/945PM-overview.htm

According to them, that it should support up to 4 GB. Thus, it supports 4 GB or not?

SSM
I am aware of the limit of ram / 3GB in 32-bit Windows, and I know that the second location of memory under the keyboard.

Hello

I think that there are different configurations of hardware M100.
This means that different M100 supports different chipsets and that is why you can find various information on the upgrade of RAM.

For me, it seems that the Satellite M100-166 could be upgraded to 4 GB of RAM.
The chipset seems to confirm this value, it should be possible to get 4 GB of RAM.

    Hello!

I put t know how much it costs to upgrade to 4 GB of RAM. This according to the modules that you can buy and where buy you it.
Upgrade the RAM, you need modules with DDR2 (667 MHZ) specification.

And change the RAM is quite easy. Consult your user manual, you can find instructions and pictures how to do this. ;)

  • Can satellite M40x-183 - I switch from XP to Windows 7?

Is it possible to switch from Windows XP to Windows 7 on my Toshiba Satellite M40X-183?

    Hello

Theoretically, you can do everything, but you know how old your laptop is? In my opinion Windows 7 isn't the first choice for good old classic. It of designed for Windows XP and you should be satisfied with this OS.

In my opinion, Windows XP is the best choice for old books, that they are not designed for Windows 7.

    Hello!

As far as I know the laptop is equipped with IDE HDD's. This means that there is a limitation of LBA 28 bits and you can use up to 128 GB s HDD.
If the upgrade to a 120 GB model should work fine.

You can buy a disk of each production, but I have good experiences with Hitachi and Seagate hard drives.

  • Re: Can Satellite L30-106 - I switch the RAM to 2 GB?

    Hello
I want to upgrade the Ram in my Toshiba L30-106 running Vista. The vehicle currently has 2 * 512 MB modules. In the specifications it says it can handle maximum 2 GB of Ram. Is this correct?

Can I upgrade using 1 * 2 GB or 2 * 1 GB modules? Dual channel RAM will make a significant difference?

I can say I should use modules DDR2-533 PC4200. I'll use Kingston, but they have Toshiba modules (start with KTT) and regular ones (KVV). It is important that I use?

    Claus

Yes, you can upgrade the Satellite L30 to 2 GB.
In addition, you should buy modules with 1 GB because so you can use dual channel mode. This makes the theoretical specifications a little faster.

For the upgrade, you can buy RAM DDR2-533.
The part number for a 1 GB module is PA3411U-1M1G

  • Can satellite 2430-301 - I switch the RAM to 2 GB

    Hello

I am owner of a Toshiba Satellite 2430 301 with 512 MB of RAM. I thought I read that my laptop can support 1 GB only, but I would like to install 2GB.
What is the cause of the restriction, if there are?

In addition, DDR RAM-technology, wouldn't be good of DDR2 modules as well?
(But then, given that the FSB has only 533 MHz, it would be useful anyway...) ?

Thanks for your help in advance,

    M.

Do you really think you can upgrade the RAM to 2 GB on this oldie?
    Forget it!

I think you can use max 1 GB RAM (2 x 512 MB). More is not possible and there is a restriction.

If you n t believe that check your type of chipset and compare the properties of chipset with the Intel page information.

    Welcome them

By the way; you use PC2100 modules

  • Can satellite L40-100 - I switch to Win7 or Win8?

    Hello

I am the owner of a laptop runs on Windows Vista 32-bit.
I noticed that it was possible to support Toshiba Web site to download the drivers for Windows 7
so I guess my computer is compatible.

However, my PC system settings are compatible with Windows 8 according to the microsoft Web site.
But the fact is that the Toshiba Web site provides drivers for windows 8 on my computer.

So my question is: knowing what I said before is it possible to move safely from Vista to Windows 8 without having problems after installation?

    Thanks for help.

Satellite L40 is older machine and certainly not supported for Win8 but Toshiba offers drivers, tools and utilities for Win7.
In my opinion you should use Win7 32 bit about this old piece of hardware. In the past, I have successfully improved several old machines Vista Win7 and all run well and very stable.

I think that Win8 isn't the best option for your Satellite L40.

  • Re: Can Satellite A100-499 - I use Kingston HyperX DDR2-667 RAM?

    Hello.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A100-499 with chipset Intel 945 PM and with 1 GB of RAM at 533 Mhz (this is the memory that came by default when it was purchased). I want to upgrade the memory to 4 GB 667 MHz and I saw two Kingston hyperx 2 GB DDR2 - 667 PC2 - 5300 CL4 (KHX5300S2LLK2 / 4G).

I ' w concerned about the compatibility of this memory with my laptop. Memory that is shown in my laptop (KT667D2 / 2G) in the site web of Toshiba is also kingston and technical specifications are similar, but time lag case which I've not been able to verify. I'm looking for the forum and it seems that Toshiba laptops are very delicate with the memory.

Did someone knows or has had experience with this combination? I don't want to spend the money to have to sell it later.

    Hello

Theoretically, you can also use the Kingston HyperX modules. They are very similar to the normal Kingston modules, but they are a little faster. Certain times are may be lower, but this should t be a problem because it will be set automatically from the BIOS.

A good friend of me always is the HyperX modules for its notebooks and there has never been a problem.
In the worst cases the modules don't work, that you can bring it back to the computer store and ask Kingston normal modules.

  • Can satellite P200 - 18 p - I use 4 GB of RAM in 1 slot?

    Hello

I m the owner of a Toshiba Satellite P200 - 18 p. One of my memory slots is broken. I used to have two ram 2 GB memory modules for a total of 4 GB of RAM, but only 1 slot is working now. I would like to know if it s possible to have 4 GB of ram module instead of 2 + 2 gb.
    THX!

I didn't test it on my P200, but I think it should work. Problem is that on the list of RAM Toshiba does not offer compatible 4 GB of RAM for this model of laptop, just 2 GB modules.
RAM is DDR2 667 MHZ, but you can use DDR2 800 MHz modules.
You can try with 4 GB of RAM DDR2 800 MHz with PA3670U-1M4G part number.

Please post comments. It may be useful information for other people with the same problem.

  • M100-166 problem satellite to turn it on

I'm having a problem with my Satellite M100-166. Basically nothing when I press the power button appears on the screen. I had to try several times to turn it on. Once he started I couldn't do anything because all the apps were pretty slow. I did a reboot and now I'm not able to turn it back on. Can someone tell me what is the problem?

    I thank very you much.

    Lucia

Eventually he s a hardware malfunction.
As katsumitsu said that if the warranty is valid, you should ask the service partner to help him.

But first try this: remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter repeatedly (> 20 min).
Then, connect the battery and connect the AC adapter to the laptop. Try to start.
If it works you must use the recovery CD and install the operating system from the recovery CD.

If after this procedure the laptop does not work correctly, you should ask the ASP for the control of the laptop.

  • Satellite M100-180: where can I find drivers for Win 2003 Server?

We bought a Microsoft Windows 2003 server. I have install then on our laptop Toshiba Satellite M100-180 PSMA1E-02Q00WRU.

With the laptop, I found Windows XP CD and Express media player recovery CD Reanimator. No disc drivers there. May be dealer lost drivers disk? If that - where can I get new CD of drivers (I am from Russia, Smolensk)

I try to download the drivers from the web (toshiba.com.ru), but they are very large (I have a dial-up internet). Then I download driver modem (4M). Installation of the works, but no modem appear after that. And no serial port too.

I plug the USB-serial converter and install Standart Modem (USR external). Then I have to connect to the internet and try to download the drivers with windows update. No results...

    HEEEEEEELP ME! :)

PS Sorry for my English :)

    Hello

: D the dealer nothing lost! The pilot tools & utilities can be created in the Windows XP operating system that came with the laptop.
With the help of Toshiba, you will find a Protect & Fix tab and the option to create a driver disk ;)

Further, all the XP drivers are placed on the page of the Toshiba driver. But unfortunately, nothing for Win 2003 server.
Maybe test it works for XP drivers also on Server 2003

  • Satellite M100: How can I use the S-VHS output

    Hello
I have a Satellite M100. A second screen display will be only activated if I already plugged an external display to the VGA output.
What I want is to allow my second screen so I can use my cable S-VHS on the TV.
I wonder that my problem is caused by the Mobile Intel 945 GM video card?

It's my third Toshiba and I never had this kind of problem before.
So if my problem how do I use my S-VHS output?

    Thanks in advance
    M.

    Hello

I guess you want to use the TV and not a second external monitor.
You can connect the TV to the s-video port.
Then, you pass the output device by using the FN + F5 key combination.
Here you have to choose the TV and not the external display.
