Can't access all files because of missing permissions

OK, I made a mistake.

I wanted to get rid of my old XP box and replace a computer Windows Vista laptop that I left another task.   I was lazy and used Carbonite to get my files from my old computer to the new computer without reading the instructions.
In any case, after that the download is finished all my files from the old computer were indeed on the new computer, but I could not access ANY of them because none of them had any permission that has been.
I can right click and go through a second 30 address to claim ownership of these files, but since I have THOUSANDS of files I was hoping that there was an easier way.
I had just trash everything and start over, but I can't even remove these files without "permission" to do.  Given that I'm the only user of this computer and the files are mine (obviously), it's very frustrating.   Lesson learned but... If you want to save one bone to another, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.
:-)
Any help would be appreciated.  I wonder if my best bet would be to just format everything (he let me?) and reload the operating system.   I wouldn't mind it, actually, if it's the best solution.

Hello

I don't know why you are facing this problem and why the Security tab isn't showing any authorization. However, you can use your favorite search engine and try to use third party software to help read the files based on the priority.

Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

Otherwise, as an administrator, you can take ownership of all files and then transfer them and then to restore the permissions to the appropriate users once transfer complete.  I will describe these procedures in more detail if you need it - but procedures are doing a better job than I ever could.  Here are the procedures: http://www.nirmaltv.com/2008/07/11/how-to-take-ownership-of-files-and-folders-in-vista/.  But this process will make you the owner of all files and you will not be able to transfer the property to standard users (since they don't have sufficient privileges to appropriate).

You should now be able to access the files and restore the backup (regardless of the method chosen).

Once the files are restored, you may need to change the permissions so that all the user is not allowed to all files and the administrator is not the owner (I don't know if cela transfers, but I think that it doesn't).  You must configure the permissions as they were before--with each user with rights to its records, all deleted user and administrators with all rights for each folder (or you can skip this last part, because you can always get permissions if you need by taking possession and maybe users want that privacy for their files even administrators).

Good luck and I hope this helps.

  • Can't access all files

I have a new Windows 7 Professional installed on a new Dell computer. The system is only three weeks. Since the first day I couldn't access many of the records on C:\. Here are some of the folders I can't access the Administrator security: Trash, Documents and settings, all users, and the user by default, etc, etc. I tried to go to the tab titles to properties, advanced selected and permissions then effective. I added my name diary and attempted to close. The errors I've met are the following:

I already had this subject for discussion, but it was recommended that I ask the question because I would like to get more traffic. So far, I have only one answer. I can't understand what I am doing wrong, please help.

All these answers are system files or folders that you do not have or do not access directly. Some are blocked because of UAC (User Account Control) that is here for your own protection.

My computer rebooting in itself guard so I can't complete a virus scan.  In one place, he suggested I have try in Safe Mode, but it didn't work (and he told me that it did not work because I couldn't connect to the internet).  I tried "Safe Mode with networking" and he would not even let me scan.

Another thing, the last time that I tried to scan it got stuck on "Internet C:\Windows\SysWOW64A\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary / / Desktop.ini.  This makes me think that this could be the problem, so I tried to get him to put the file in "VirusTotal.  I was able to get to him before that I got the idea to put it in "VirusTotal" but now it won't let me and he says:

"You don't have currently not allowed to access this folder."

"Click Conitnue to have permanent access to this folder."

When I try to click on "Continue", it only ever through.

I tried to change the 'Owner' under 'Security' tab but it still doesn't work, so I can't check to see if the file is a virus.

Should I try to download a new antivirus program to scan my computer?

Sorry if this is in the wrong category.  I have so many problems, it is not easy to categorize.

    Uninstalling McAfee completely.

Do not use any product that claims to make your computer run better.  Almost all of them are either false, themselves, an infection, or put your computer at risk. Delete everything that claims to be there to prevent the infections or pretends to make your computer work better, except for the singular than an antivirus product.

It is a controversial topic, but your choice of AV software may be something you want to take a 2nd look.  I suggest you visit this website to get an idea of what AV software made the best work, depending on what type of user you are: http://www.av-comparatives.org/ is a non-profit that has been around for a long time and I hope that their results.

When you interpret these results, remember the difference between a product that detects 95% and the other 99% of infections, it is actually 5 times more likely to allow an infection.

I pick up after about 150 Windows PCs and I have more than 13 years.  Until last September, the only AV software that I would allow my clients to use was Norton Antivirus.  Note that this is not the same as any other product, Norton 360 or Internet Security.  My clients rarely know infections.

Last September, Symantec (Norton owner) decided to no longer sell such a product.  After much research, I decided on Bitdefender Antivirus 2015 +.  I installed it on most of these PCs to date and has never been a problem, and it has been on a course of about 11 months now...  It is a better product than Norton.  It is also cheap. One of the things I love the most about it, is the silence and discretion.  Especially if silenced you its function "portfolio".

My customers know that if they install any product of 'Internet Security', I won't work on their computers until it is deleted.  Very well, I learned the hard way that other components of these products (other than the AV itself) IS causing more problems than any profit that they bring and work mainly by stopping the Windows component that does a very good job of this particular task still.  The problem is that when I started to work on a computer with an IS on it, I could spend hours trying to diagnose the problem, only to find out that by taking the product of the IS, the problems have become much clearer and easier to solve.  I think that the product of the IS actually hides the problem.

As I said, this is a controversial topic and you will find many different very strong opinions.  I know that mine is based on a fairly large sample over a long period, and are consumers of consumer type Windows.

Please note.  You should never have more than one protection software installed.  Always make sure that you completely remove the firmware all protection before installing a new one.  That contains software that may have come preinstalled on your computer when it's new

Totally impossible to delete most of all AV software simply by using the standard uninstallation tool Windows 7.  Most of the majors also publishes a "removal tool" that gets the rest.  If you do not completely remove it, it will cause very hard to understand and diagnose problems.

  • My PC crashed. Restored on a new record and a new installation of FireFox. I can still access all the files. How do I take the old bookmarks if there is no backup?

My PC crashed. Restored on a new record and a new installation of FireFox. I can still access all the files on the old drive. How do I take the old bookmarks if no backup exists, or has been completed? Does not save bookmarks of FireFox auto? If, then what is the file name and where is normally stored by FireFox?

In fact, it can be easier...

If you have the old drive connected as, say, drive E, go to:

    E:\Users\username

Then click in the address bar and paste it after this and press ENTER to open it:

    \AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Normally, you have only one file, which has a random string followed by "default." In this case, click on this file and find the subfolder bookmarkbackups.

If you find multiple profile folders, look inside to find the most recently updated backups.

To restore the backup files, see: restore bookmarks from a backup or move them to another computer

    Hello

It is the result of malware, then do a very thorough check and when the system is
clean see the following message to remove this error.

If you need search malware here's my recommendations - they will allow you to
scrutiny and the withdrawal without ending up with a load of spyware programs running
resident who can cause as many questions as the malware and may be more difficult to detect as the
    cause.

No one program cannot be used to detect and remove any malware. Added that often easy
to detect malicious software often comes with a much harder to detect and remove the payload. Then
its best to be thorough than paying the high price later now too. Check with them to one
extreme overkill point and then run the cleaning only when you are sure that the system is clean.

It can be made repeatedly in Mode safe - F8 tap that you start, however, you must also run

  • Can't access the files from the HARD drive of any account on the windows computer 7

    Hello

When I tried to connect my Western digital external hard drive to a 32-bit desktop P 3 with a Windows XP SP1, then this HARD drive is not detected. Then I tried to copy his WD driver ITS a USB Flash drive, then isntalled all the WD HARD drive was always plugged into my computer. After that, the HARD drive was identified by computer and appear in my computer. As I thought that this folder has been created by the installation of the driver, did not exist on my HARD drive before connected to the desktop computer.

When I plugged my WD HDDagain to my laptop HP with Windows 7 SP1 64 bit and I tried open this folder, and then the main folder only opened without facing access denied, however, access to all of its subfolders, and the files inside it has been declined.

In addition, althoguh the username admin Curernet "Mohammad" can open the folder of human "83f04ce083fb03083bb88e50", as shown in the screenshot above, it can not access all of the subfolders, files in the main folder, and to access, I will need to use the scecurity tab. Thus, it would be absolute nonsense, if I want to have access to all of the subfolders, I will need to use the security for each tab.

How do I gain access to all of the subfolders with use of the Security tab once the time (i.e. as long as all subfolders are inside the main folder, then simply use the main folder security tab?

As long as the current username "Mohammad" can open the folder of "83f04ce083fb03083bb88e50" man, "Mohammad" is so allowed system to have access to the main folder as shown in the screenshot above, then I think that the username 'Mohammad' will have to reach all subfolders as well. However, when you try to open any subfolder or file, then the current user 'Mohammad' name could not have access to all of the subfolders in the main folder and all subfolders or files opening gave me this error below (screenshots below)

I tried to remove this main folder, however, each time, I found myself with a loop "you need permission SYSTEM to make changes to this file.

    Original title: file access denied

Groan.  It is so easy to fix, and you should have gotten a lot better support now.  Surprisingly, the worst suggestion came directly from the "Microsoft Support Engineer" Reda Singh, his suggestion potentially compromising the security of your computer while doing absolutely nothing to solve the problem.  Fortunately, it seems like you didn't do something quite right and so the script was not run.

First of all, let me explain why this difficult access occurs in the first place.  Originally, you had three 'users' granted access to training, SYSTEM, Administrators, and MohammadSYSTEM allows Windows to read your disk, and retrieve things like its label.  It can also allow your antivirus software to access the drive.  Because this OPTION is enabled, Administrators is not accomplish anything, even if you are an administrator.  As long as this OPTION is enabled, this permission only works for programs, that you manually raised to run as administrator.  This leaves access to the drive depend on the last entry, Mohammad.  The problem is the SID behind Mohammad is only good on the computer, it was created, so if you connect this HARD drive on another computer, no access is allowed!  Enter the security on the other computer dialog box, you can either see something "could not read permissions" or you will see the SYSTEM, directorsand a third entry with a long series of numbers.  It's your first computer Mohammad , and it will not work on another computer.

It is not surprising that you're facing this problem because you are using the drive on multiple computers, which is running XP that is not UAC.  Here's how to unlock a storage drive (in Windows 7) so that it can be normally accessed in any PC without any permissions problem:

    1. Press [Windows] (or click on the circles to start), and then type "user account control".
    2. In the search results, click on "change user account control settings."
    3. Drag the slider to "never notify".
    4. Click [OK] to confirm the changes and restart your computer.
    5. Open Windows Explorer, right-click on the affected drive, and then click Properties -> Security (tab)-> [Advanced]-> owner (tab)-> [change].
    6. You should be on a dialog box that asks what you want to change the owner.  Click on Administrators.
    7. Check Replace owner of subcontainers and objects, and click [OK].  Windows should start processing all the files on the disc.  This may take a few minutes.
    8. When it's done, click [OK] to close the property message and then close out of all other dialog boxes.
    9. In Windows Explorer, click the drive affected again, and then click Properties -> Security (tab)-> [Advanced]-> [edit permissions].
    10. Now in the dialog box Advanced security settings , click the button [delete] repeatedly to remove all permission entries.
    11. Add SYSTEM and grant full control.
      1. Click on [Add...].
      2. Type 'SYSTEM' and press [Enter].
      3. Check full control in the allow column and press [Enter].
    12. Add Administrators and grant full control.
    13. Add users and grant Full control.
    14. In the dialog box Advanced security settings , you should have three entrances of permissions: SYSTEM Administratorsand users, all granted full control.  Check "Replace all permissions of child object with permissions inheritable from this object" and click [OK].
    15. Click [Yes] to confirm the replacement of permissions.  Again, Windows start to process all files on the disk, which may take a few minutes.
    16. When he finishes, close to all the dialog boxes and check that all records are now accessible.  You may have to refresh (or close and reopen) explore to see the changes.
    17. Assuming that it worked, we will re-enable UAC to reduce the vulnerability of temporary security, that we created earlier.  Press [Windows] and then type 'user account control '.
    18. In the search results, click on "change user account control settings."
    19. Drag the slider to the position below the top (position #2, by default).
    20. Click [OK] and restart your computer.  Now, the files remain accessible.

This should straighten the permissions of your disk storage so that you can use it again.  You may need to empty the trash on this drive after changing permissions.

Don't do this procedure on your C:\ drive, it will seriously reduce the security of your Windows installation.  This is for the readers of storage only.  If you need access to a specific file that you created to C:\, you can safely do the steps above on this issue, but never on the C:\ drive itself.  Please note that when you perform this procedure on a folder instead of a hard drive, you will need to replace this step #10:

    10. now in the dialog box Advanced security settings , uncheck the box "Include permissions can be inherited from the parent to this object" and click [delete] to confirm.  If some permission entries remain, click [Remove] until they are all gone.

The concept is the same in Windows Vista, even if the exact steps differ from the foregoing at least Windows 8.  In Windows 8, you must also disable UAC with a registry tweak because, unlike Windows 7, UAC remains on even when the value of "Never notify", giving rise to all sorts of problems in Explorer tries to work with file permissions.

Oh and to answer one other question I saw you ask from the beginning: this folder of the .net Framework was created by .net Framework Installer.  He breaks all the rules and frustrating unpacks his junk everywhere where it feels like.  I got it decompress on a front SD card, making the installation would take forever.  After installing the .net Framework, you probably disconnected the drive before restarting your computer, so these files let me.  Or the installation crashed and started you again.  Meanwhile, installs the failure left its Temp files behind.  It was supposed to remove the folder when the installation is complete.  You can remove safely as the folder manually.

    can someone help me?
IAM using Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit.
    Thank you.

I struggled with this VERY ENNUYANT thing for a long time on a Windows Server 2008 R2.

    Just found the answer:

    http://superuser.com/questions/260375/why-would-system-continue-locking-executable-file-handles-after-the-app-has-exit

Activation of the service 'Application Experience' does the trick for me.

If I got paid for every minute spent dealing with the mysteries of Microsoft... No, wait! Paid!

    Thank you Microsoft!

  • Data on the iMac, but can not access the files.

    Hi all

I have a iMac Core 2 Duo (3.33, 21.5 inches) since end 2009, running 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and I'm trying to recover some files that seem to be there, but I can not access it due to an update of the unfinished software.

A few years back, I tried the Mavericks update using an external hard drive as the boot drive (at that time there I ran 10.6.7 Lion), installation is never ending and I accidentally deleted this file to start on the outside, so I ended up coming back to his moose BONE, 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

He seems to resemble a new install of Snow Leopard, except my old files (about 350 GB) still live on this subject, but I can not access all of the files, or does not even appear in the Finder.

Would appreciate any advice or tips on how to do to recover my invisible files. Thank you!

Do you see the drive in disk utility?

    1. Connect the external drive
    2. If it has external power supply, make sure that that is connected
    3. If the external hard drive has a power button, make sure that it is set to
    4. Goto docking station
    5. Click on finder
    6. Goto menu bar
    7. Click the menu go
    8. Choose utility
    9. Double-click disk utility

The drive will appear in the left column of the disk utility?

If the answer is Yes, if you click on the drive, and then click on check, what disk utility say?

  • I can't access the files under a specific user name, no password

    original title: access files

Received the infamous "blue screen" error  Installed new hard drive and Windows XP Pro.  Installed old drive "blue screen" in a "pregnant" so I could access the files.  Only problem is that I can't access the files under a specific user name, no password.  All of the suggestions.

In a situation like yours, you need to "Take Ownership" files that you can access on your old disk:

    Hi Robrw,

    1. when exactly you receive this error?

    2. don't you make changes to the computer before this problem?

You can try to rename the catroot2 folder and check if it helps.

    Step 1:

    a. Click Start and in run type C:\windows\system32 and click ok

    b. find the Catroot2 folder. Right-click on Catroot2 and rename it to Catroot2.old

If you are not able to do the normal mode, try to start in safe mode and rename

Check out the link for more information on starting your computer in SafeMode below:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

    Step 2:

If you are unable to access the catroot2 folder, and then try to change the permissions on the files and check if it helps.

    See the following article:

How to capture a file or a folder in Windows XP

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/308421

    Step 3:

You can also try to temporarily disable third-party security software and firewalls and check what is happening.

Note: Activate the security software after the resolution of the problem.

    Hope this information is useful.
