Cannot access shared folders
Using Fusion 5.0.2 and Windows 8 Professional, I repeatedly tried to download and install Windows programs (for example, Stamps.com) stopped with the message: "could not access network location \\vmware-host\sharedfolders\desktop.
I have shared folders is enabled in the merger.
How can I fix?
Sounds like an installation problem that can not handle when mirrored folders are enabled then... temporarily disable mirrored folders and try to reinstall.

Vista can ping machine to another, but cannot access shared folders on the machine
Hi experts,
Recently, we have problems with some Vista machines to access shared folders on other Vista machines. This seems to happen after the automatic updates of windows.
These 'problem' machines are able to ping other machines 'good' but is unable to connect to shared folders machines 'good '.
The reverse works fine ('good' machines can ping and access 'problem' machines).
When you connect to folders shared of these 'problem' to 'good' machines machines using \\machinename\folder or even \\machine_ip\folder, the error window "the network location cannot be reached" appears.
'Problem' machines can do desktop connection remote for the machines 'good '.
All machines have the parameters: -.
Same workgroup
Same domain - private network
Network discovery on
File sharing on
Public folder sharing
Password protected sharing
I am not able to find a solution on the web site and microsoft.
Re-install Vista on 1 machine of 'problem' and the problem goes away.
The problem with reinstalling is subject to re-registration of certain software licenses which has no registration online (through applications for certificates).
Is there a resolution without having to re - install Vista?ltkhoo

Cannot access shared folders on the home network.
Until a few days ago, I had a successful network operation consisting of two Vista Home premium computers and two XP Home. I have not had problems with opening files or folders before, but now I find I can access shared files and folders on the computer units XP vista, but cannot open the computers XP Vista of the units of the. I get the following message:
\\user-D5139A8DF2\desktop on IBM is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
Not enough server storage is available to process this command.
I checked the registry as suggested, computers are all on a home network with the same workgroup name. One solution I found in the forums has to do with my anti-virus Norton N360, but as all my computers are using the same version of that I'm uncertain or not to change the settings. It's very frustrating. Can anyone offer a solution or suggestion, please?

I have an external hard drive (Seagate FreeAgent) formatted with a single NTFS partition. I created two new users, two new groups (one for each user) and two new actions (also one for each user). When you try to map a network share or user is able to log on. Each of them get a Windows (Vista) "Logon unsuccessful" message that either the user name or the password are incorrect. I tried the 'username' and the 'Groupe_travail' formats for usernames without success.

R7800 cannot see shared folders SMB VPN
Hello
I started to use VPN on the R7800 service, and I can use Remote Desktop connection Microsoft 9.3 iOS app to connect to my computer at home (8.1 Windows) through the internet, as if I was on the LAN (192.168.1.2). However, the apps that read SMB shared folders do not detect them (BREW 4 pro). Similarly, on my Nexus 6 p, solid explore cannot open shared folders when connected via VPN. Is it possible to read SMB from Windows shared folders remotely via VPN on the R7800?
I tried to ping 192.168.1.2 too from my iPad and there is no answer. When I ping my Android devices, however they respond. But, again, RDP to this computer works, so I don't know what is happening, someone with more knowledge can help?
Please verify ICMP and SMB service on your PC. If it is on the local subnet change it to EVERYTHING.

PC running XP cannot access shared Windows Server 2012 Essentials
Hello, I'm having a problem with access to files shared on my Windows Server 2012 Essentials on my Dell Inspiron 1100 running XP Pro SP3 I changed all my computers in the workgroup of names to match NetBios servers and all my other computers have access to stocks with the exception of the Inspiron 1100 trying to access in the sharing I am told that I do not have access, I am not offered a prompt to enter a user name and password I am simply denied access. Does anyone know how to get around this problem or fix the issue fact XP and issue with Server 2012 or vice versa. I can access the server to office assistance remotely, but not shared folders which seems strange to me. I've already posted the same question on the TechNet site too since it's a server issue but I find that you can easily post there and receive no help, so that never but I find that almost every subject I posted here, someone has at least made an effort to help with your problem.
In fact, I created a user account on the server and the XP client gave them both the same user name and password and now I have full access to server shares. I have often continue to try while you wait for answers and find my own solution.

Cannot access shared optical drive on Vista Ultimate desktop PC
I have installed the optical drive (CD/DVD RW) on my desktop running Vista Ultimate in proportion. The my wife running Windows 7 Starter netbook, I am unable to access the share. I can access the other actions on the Vista Ultimate desktop such as photos, music and Documents..., I did simply not the optical drive. I was hoping to access the optical drive on my desk from the netbook to install the software from the CD and the DVD.
The netbook sees the part (called Desktop-DVD), but when I try to open it, I get the error:
Network error
Windows cannot access \\FAMILY-PC\Desktop-DVDDrive
You don't have permission to access the \\FAMILY-PC\Desktop-DVDDrive. Contact your network administrator to request access.
Help, please! Thanks :)Just to follow up on the previous post. I solved the problem. DVD drive (Vista) is accessible on the network, and I was able to load Microsoft Office on a netbook (XP) using the network.
Thank you

Cannot access shared files whne connected to the server
Original title: dfs namespace access
We have customers from windows 7 on windows 2008r2 domain. We have a couple of file hosting a dfs servers space names with file shares.
This server hosts a common \\namespace\fileshare that is still available however 2 other \\namespace\share1 & 2 return cannot access this share when you are not connected to the server. This does not affect any clients, but affects enough that it becomes big problem being the only customer resolution of reconstruction. I tried adding and removing updates. I am at a loss what to try next.
Any suggestion would be great.
Thanks Mick
I found the solution myself after a lot of googling and journal of trace events.
After you configure wsus, it appeared that our Windows 7 clients suddenly received file sync (small green icon in the taskbar) couple this with an intermittent slow wan link. The fix was all right before you disable offline files. We never wanted their first place very frustrating, but we're still learning.
It doesn't seem to affect all clients which is what got us thrown away but hey its works now.
Thanks Mick

to access shared folders on the cmd line?
Hi, I'm trying to copy files to the shared folders on the command line. some research I found a few references to use the net use command to associate files with a virtual drive:
NET use z:
. host\y (where there is the shared folder)or
NET use z:
. host\shared folders\yHowever, the syntax is wrong, or this is the wrong approach entirely. pointers would be much appreciated
Thank you!
Either you use:
"NET use."
VMware-host\Shared files. This will be the map a network drive that contains folders in it...
... or you use the deep link:
"NET use."
VMware-host\Shared Folders\vmware»to directly map a shared folder as a network drive.
BTW: The best way to know what you need on the command line is to map the "Shared Folders" in law by clicking on it in Windows Explorer and then run "net use" to see how it has been mapped.

Windows 7 cannot access shared MacBook
Now, I understand the ads this whole Networking Wireless is a new feature in Windows 7, but I have my MacBook put in place to share folders and it has set up to share with the computers in the window, on some occasions, they appear on my Windows 7 computer, but I have not changed anything about computers and my MacBook is not appear in the network window Although since the MacBook I can access the Windows 7 computer, even if I need for Windows 7 access the MacBook. So no idea on why Windows 7 cannot see my MacBook?
Alos if you need to know the MacBook is under Snow Leopard.
In fact, Windows 7 done a much better job of sharing with OS X, Vista did. No change to the registry is required. On my network, it's almost as easy as the networking on the Mac side.
On OS X, make sure you have checked in the file sharing system preferences > sharing. Click the Options button, and then select "share files and folders using SMB." Add the shared directories as you wish.
You must create accounts/passwords user on the Mac and Windows 7. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY the MOST SIMPLE . If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop in Win7 (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this.
Start > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UACUncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null).
You can find options to logon automatically for OS X in system preferences > accounts.
On Win7, go to control panel > all items in Control Panel > network and sharing Center. Click on "change the advanced sharing settings. You do not want to use Homegroup.
Turn on WE network discovery
Turn ON file and sharing printers
Put IT in the section sharing public folder
Turn ON password protected sharingConfigure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, Configuration File and Printer Sharing ON will take care of that for these machines, and if you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus/security with its own firewall component program, then you're fine. With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Refer to the safety of any third party program or the user forums for how to correctly configure its firewall. Do not run more than one firewall. Don't STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE them PROPERLY.
OS X Firewall is done in System Preferences > Security. Click the lock to make changes, and then click the Advanced button to ensure that SMB sharing is allowed. If you set up in the share pod, it will be.
On Win7, create shares as desired. I usually just share the Public, users desktop folder and all hard drives of additional data in the system. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

NAS200 - cannot access personal folders of Windows
Live chat with Linksys re: NAS200: my side of it.
On a NAS200 I install a user called 'jon' with a personal file and a password. Problem is, I don't see how now to access folder Jon of Windows XP in the same way that I can access the public folder.
I get "\\Nas200_9792de\public disk" Windows and files read/write without problem, including several subdirectories, I created it there.
After you create a user, I guess I would then be able to access the file with something like \\Nas200_9792de\jon for example. I tried a drive letter of mapping, but get an error message
on "network folder is mapped currently...... try a different username. But
nothing alse is currently mapped.
If I try"add a network place" I get "the folder you entered is not valid. Please choose another. "
I've updated the firmware to V3.4R75, but this made no difference
I searched throughout the "NAS200 User Guide.pdf" and he gives no explanation on how to access the personal folders of Windows.
I searched also Linksys FAQ but could not find a help there.
Sincerely, Shaun.
You can try using the network drive mapping utility that is included on the cd to map the file. To map a shared folder, please follow the instructions of thses:
Right-click on the icon in the system tray. Click shared folder mapping. The folder mapping split screen appears. Select the appropriate network storage System.Select the shared folder if you don't see the folder you want, click the Refresh button. Keep the default drive letter or enter a different letter in the field of training. Then click on the map button. The shared folder opens automatically, and a new window will appear to inform you that the shared folder has been mapped. Click the OK button. On the mapping of shared folder screen, click on the close button. Double Clcick workstation. the shared folder will appear as a network drive.
