Cannot access the folder C:\ drive user

1. I have Windows 7.

2. I have a user folder with all my documents in there. Everything about this case insists that it can be found at C:\Users\MyName.

3. when I try to follow this path, there is no record to MyName. In C:\Users, he not only "invited" and "Public". It defies everything I know on the functioning of the paths of files.

I need to understand why this is and how to access My Documents by following the path C:\. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Two things to try.

Sign in to your user account.

Click Start > your account (top right of the start menu)

Right-click on your Documents folder, click Properties, and then click on the location tab. See what he says.

If it says C:\Users\Yourname\Documents then try the following:

Open Windows Explorer, go to C:\Users.

In the toolbar, click on organize > folder and Search Options.

Click the view tab and scroll down the hidden files and folders.

Click on the box "show the hidden files and folders".

Click on apply and OK. Then show your user account?

  • Cannot access the folder

Hi Lisa!  I have a similar problem, but I use Windows XP Home Edition.  Under ' advanced settings (step 1 c) there is no area for "simple file sharing" for me check or uncheck. ".  I have a directory under Documents and Settings of a former user who uses this PC is no longer, and the user account has been deleted.  But I don't have access to the files in spite of being the only user and administrator.  I can't access this grace at a command prompt.  The folder name is too long, and the short name will not work.  I tried right click directly on the folder, but not getting anything to work with.  Uncheck "read only" does nothing, and when I look again, it is considered as 'read only' again.  I can't delete the folder.  I can't access the folder.  Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not Lisa, but you can start the computer with Linux Livecd such as Knoppix or a Bart PE disk and copy the data from the file to an external hard drive in this way. You can then delete the folder if you use the Linux NTFS driver (if your Windows drive is formatted in NTFS; he did not need something special if it's FAT32) or just delete it using the Bart PE.

  • system cannot access the folder

I have two files that appear to be unaccesible.

    1. all users/Documents

2 Program Files/Microsoft Security customer... (created by my first installation of Security Essentials)

I don't know when the 'Documents' folder has become inaccessible, but the Client Security folder was withikng last week... It is not stopped Security Essentials to work, leading to a virus attack (AMSECURE), OR something else has stopped working and rendered virus attack it the inaccessible folder... (Don't know who)

I discovered the problem with the "Microsoft Security Client" folder, when I tried to re-installed Security Essentials, while recovering from the virus. Installation has failed every time.  Once I discovered what the problem was, I was able to rename the folder 'Microsoft Security customer', so that the security essentials installation then ok...

I searched on the internet a solution to the issue of file access and nothing that I do allow me to access the records...

Both files are displayed as READ ONLY I change, but he returned immediately to READ ONLY. I started in safe MODE and checked the property and everything seems OK, too... all folders and files in the folder have assumed the same properties and are not accessible...

I finished a full disc and all check/scan that found a few bad sectors, it does not solve the problem...

I can't open the 'Documents' folder at all... However, I can open the "Microdoft Security Client" folder, but can't open the files it contains.

When I try to delete it, I get the meesage that a folder it contains is not empty... However, the top folder and the files it contains are all shown as "empty".

  • cannot access the files of another user with the admin account

I'm on a computer with Windows Vista 64-bit home problems.
I normally have the computer configured to connect automatically to a non privileged user and rarely use the admin account.
Recently, I downloaded an update (Finally, more like a relocation to the latest version) and realized that I need the admin account to install properly for all users that UAC would make things a royal PITA with a zillion prompts.

I quickly disconnected and logged in as admin. Then, I realized that the installation file has been stored in the "downloads" folder in my regular account.
Worse still, I could not access this folder, or I couldn't tab of future security. All I could do was to 'change the property' to my admin account, but I really didn't block me on these issues. Even from Explorer using "run as administrator" gave me problems, although the DIR command in cmd.com would be the list of people.

I used the "change user" function to log my account regular and checked the Security tab and saw that the "Administrators" Group had already read and checked 'total control '. Why can't access the admin account? As an admin with XP, I had free access to everything I wanted to leave that I wanted.

What happens if I was a parent and wanted to check to make sure that my child was not software piracy or download illegal music that would get stuck with the fines because I'm his guardian? How would I go about checking his records?

What happens if I was an employer at a small office using working groups and wanted to ensure that the employee was not downloading pornography?

How can I use the powers of the administrator to access other files (regular) user?
Why do I still need to ask this question? It was automatic under NT, 2000, XP and the various servers at least as high as 2003.

I found the problem, it was ANOTHER problem with Norton Security Suite for Comcast.

If I select the product Toshiba blah blah thingy a screen comes up saying it can't find 01 HARD drive. I did nothing with the partition containing Vista.

    Hi BJGreen,

    Thanks for posting your question.

Please follow the suggestions listed below.

    Step 1:

Since you have already tried the FIXIT tool and it didn't quite good; I recommend you try to change the registry manually, because it is more reliable. To do this the steps (from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 ) mentioned below.

    1) click Start and then click all programs.

    2) click Accessories, and then click Run.

    (3) type regedit and then click OK.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.

    (4) in the navigation pane, find and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    (5) in the right pane, click UpperFilters.

Note You can also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You don't have to delete this entry. Click UpperFilters. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you may still have to delete the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.

    (6) on the Edit menu, click on delete.

    (7) when you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

    (8) in the right pane, click LowerFilters.

Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you. Go to the section "Next steps" to learn how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.

    (9) on the Edit menu, click on delete.

    (10) when you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

    (11) exit the registry editor.

    (12) computer.

    Step 2:

If you have installed a CD/DVD burning software recently, then I recommend you to uninstall and check if the problem is resolved and then reinstall it.

    Kind regards

  • Cannot access the folder pictures

    System information:
    Windows Vista 32-bit, Business edition
    HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop
The fundamental problem is that I can't access my images. The icon appears only as a white sheet of paper instead of the photo icon that normally appears. When I try to access it through My Documents, I have photos, right click and go to properties and it always says that it is a shortcut file, but there is no tab for options shortcuts. I tried to restore previous versions, but he said that there was none. I also tried a system restore, thinking he might have got damaged in the course of a update or something, but not luck.
I did not need to get into my pictures for a while, so I can't say exactly how long it has been past, only that I noticed the problem today.
Just do not know how to approach the situation. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Carrie2840,

Method 1: Run the fixit available in the links below and check if that makes a difference-Worth to try

Diagnose and repair Windows files and folders problems automatically
Difficulty of broken desktop shortcuts and common system maintenance tasks

Note: FixIt would attempt to recover bad sectors on the hard disk, in the course of this process there are chances of DATA loss from that particular area.

Method 2: Let flow the fixit available in the link below and then check

    Windows Photo and slideshow problems

    http://support.Microsoft.com/GP/windows_photo_and_slideshow_diag/en-us?EntryPoint=lightbox

Method 3:  Select the boot and then check if the problem persists

Follow step 1 in the link below,
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Important: n ' forget not to put the computer to a normal startup follow step 7 in the link.

If the problem persists, this could be an activity of the virus

Method 4: Run Microsoft Security scanner (MSS) to any threat and try to correct

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: Infected files can be deleted from your computer; There is a chance of data loss.

  • Cannot use the option button to access the folder of bookmarks hidden on a dead drive

I'm on Mac OSX 10.7.5, and I can easily access the folder on my current drive by pressing the option key (so that the hidden library appears) then get bookmarks of otherwise hidden files (since it's my new boot drive)

    BUT

I need to copy / move my LAST favorites since ten days previously, a dead hard drive. The drive is usable, just not able to start.

    Hello

I just got a laptop with windows 7 on it and I want to connect to my other PC for it, they are on the same network through a router. the PC can see and access the laptop without asking for a user name and password but the laptop cannot access the PC because it asks me a username and password that I don't know.

    Hello
    Maybe this can help.

Win7 when configured on the peer-to-peer network has three types of configurations of sharing.

Group residential network = only works between Win 7 computers. This type of configuration, it is very easy to entry level users to start sharing network.

Working network = fundamentally similar to previous methods of sharing that allow you to control what, how and to whom the records would be shared with.

    Public share
= network Public (as Internet Café) in order to reduce security risks.

For the best newspaper of the results of each computer screen system and together all computers on a network of the same name, while each computer has its own unique name.

    http://www.ezlan.NET/Win7/net_name.jpg

Make sure that the software firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall on, Vista/XP Firewall Native should be disabled, and the active firewall has adjusted to your network numbers IP on what is sometimes called the Zone of confidence (see part 3 firewall instructions

    General example, http://www.ezlan.net/faq.html#trusted
Please note that some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled). If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic. If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .

    ------------------------------

If your network consists only of Win 7 and you want a simple network, use it.

If you have authorization and security problems, check the following settings.

Point to a folder that wants to share do right click and choose Properties.

    In the properties

Click on the Security tab shown in the bellows of the photo on the right) and verify that users and their permissions (see photo below Centre and left) are configured correctly. Then do the same for the authorization tab.

This screen shot is to Win 7, Vista menus are similar.

    http://www.ezlan.NET/Win7/permission-security.jpg

The Security Panel and the authorization Panel, you need to highlight each user/group and consider that the authorization controls are verified correctly.

When everything is OK, restart the network (router and computer).

    * Note . The groups and users listed in the screen-shoot are just an example. Your list will focus on how your system is configured.

    * Note . There must be specific users. All means all users who already have an account now as users. This does not mean everyone who feel they would like to connect.
