Cannot access [\\vmware-host\shared files], no drive z: on W10 visitors in W10 hosts running Workstation 12 Pro

The title says it all: I have guests Windows Pro 10 tree on a host Windows 10 Pro running VMware Workstation 12 Pro, and I can not access shared folders of the host within the VM settings (\\vmware-host\shared records), or the mapped Z: drive.

Shared folders on the host computer using the normal windows, sharing mechanism are perfectly accessible from the guests. Shared folders on the guests using the normal windows, sharing mechanism are perfectly accessible from the host. Only those shared in the virtual computer settings are not available,

I tried to remove and then re-add files, to temporarily disable and sharing, but also re - install VMware tools, with no chance of return. The device worked fine until my clients running Windows 7 and 8.1.

I know there are questions like that all over the forum, but I have found no working solution for workstation Pro (and Windows 10).

Someone at - it ideas?

There was another thread a few days on the same subject, where it has been fixed by completely uninstall VMware Tools, by restarting the OS invited and reinstall the tools (Important: not only do a "repair" install).  Have you tried full uninstall-reboot-reinstall of tools?

See you soon,.

You can also download and run rkill to stop the process of problem before you download and scan with malwarebytes

If it does not remove the problem and or work correctly in normal mode do work above in safe mode with networking

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.

    also run the sfc/scannow command.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

    Hi nanditaberi,

Since when are you facing this problem? What were the changes to the system between the time where everything has worked, and when you noticed the problem?

This problem may be caused by this security software on the computer, uninstall them might solve the problem.

    Example: AVG, Zone Alarm

    Important:

O before you uninstall the security software disconnect the computer from the internet. Make sure that the windows firewall is enabled.

Ø you may need to check with the manufacturer of security software for reinstallation and activation.

O re - install the security software on the computer.

    Hello

I have already read many answer to this problem here, but unfortunately none of this applies to me. I have a Windows XP and for some time I've always started some message when starting my laptop on rundll32.exe on my desk. I checked and I have this file in my system folder. Since this morning, I became suddenly unable to use any application like Skype, messenger other messengers etc. I can't even run my AVG scan for viruses and not can't open most of the programs in the control panel including Security tab / does anyone have an idea how can I get rid of this virus, or at least turn back my applications, I can use?

    Hi Platamon1980,

-Remember to make changes to your computer after that this problem started to happen?

First, try the steps listed in the following article to fix rundll error message:

This problem occurs because of a missing or corrupted Rundll32.exe file.

Check if this solves other problems also.

Keep me updated on the status of the issue.
  • Cannot access Windows 7 shared C drive

I can no longer access the shared C drive of a Windows 7 computer. This is a new feature of Windows 7? (works fine on Vista machines)

"Anyone can edit and delete files/folders on your C drive containing important files/folders so that Windows works properly."
"Anyone can accidentally delete your Windows folder and cause your system to crash or accidentally move files to a system of cause of different folders become inaccessible."

I don't think that this is a practical problem because the default permission level is read-only. In addition, Windows 7 (and Vista too) prohibits sharing the folder Windows, Program Files folder and folder users (other than Users\Public). I guess that people who want to share drives C have isolated their family environment.

  • Second user cannot access - Windows XP program files

I just added my wife as a second user on my PC (Windows XP Home).  I created it as administrator too.  When you are logged as long as him, none of the programs installed under Program Files are accessible.  The icons appear on the desktop, but if I click on them, a pop-up box says windows cannot find c:\Program Files\whatever.  If I choose the option browse on the popup and click in Program Files, I get an error "C:\Program Files is not accessible.  Access Denied»  I did some research on this forum and got answers on the selection/deselection of use sharing simple file under Tools-> view-> advanced settings.  But this option is not available, because it is XP Home, XP Pro not.

Certainly, she should be able to access the programs in this folder.  What Miss me?

  • Cannot access the .host

    When I type
. host\ in Windows Explorer, I get the message Windows can't find
    . host\

I have Win XP SP 3 installed on a virtual machine under VMware Fusion Version 2.0.5 (173382). My machine is a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.5.7.

In fact, all started when I realized that my VM could not see my DVD drive. So I decided that you upgrade just in case VMware tools, but nothing happened. So, I uninstalled the VMware Tools my VM with the intention to relocate. I chose the VM - & gt; Install VMware Tools, but nothing happened. I then read somewhere that it was possible to install the tools manually by mounting the image of WMware Tools (/ library/Application\ Support / VMware\ Fusion/isoimages/windows.iso) as a CD-ROM on the computer virtual drive. To do this, go the VM - & gt; CD/DVD - & gt; Choose the Disk Image and select the windows.iso file that I mentioned. Still nothing on the side of the virtual machine. No new drive appeared. I was expecting to see a D: drive. So, I decided to go the other way and navigate Windows Explorer (path for
.host\Library\Application Support\VMware Fusion\isoimages\windows.iso. However, .host is not accessible from the virtual machine.

Anyone has an idea on what is happening with my VM?

    JF

    Hello

    When I type
. host\ in Windows Explorer, I get the message Windows can't find
    . host\

Something is wrong, but you guessed that until now. Your troubleshooting step to try reinstalling VMware Tools was good because it depends on the VMware tools installed.

What is a kind of antivirus/firewall application on your feedback that it blocks work?

I then read somewhere that it was possible to install the tools manually by mounting the image of WMware Tools (/ library/Application\ Support / VMware\ Fusion/isoimages/windows.iso) as a CD-ROM on the computer virtual drive. To do this, go to the Virtual Machine-> CD/DVD-> choose a disk... Image and select the windows.iso file I mentioned. Still nothing on the side of the virtual machine. No new drive appeared.

New drive? So your VM is not at all a virtual CD-ROM? If this is the case then add a virtual CD when it is stopped.

If you have a cdrom, then this step should work and if you select the iso image, you mentioned that it must insert the CD of VMware tools in the virtual CD.

If AutoPlay is enabled it should automatically start the Setup program.
