Cannot boot/install VMs from ISO pictures

In this new host VMWare 5.1 server, I created 2 virtual machines - one for Win 2008 - R2 and one for 2003-R2. Or VM guest operating system can be installed. Virtual machines can not see the DVD drive. I have modified/checked boot options, so this CD-ROM takes precedence over the hard drive. Normally, I see the message - "Press any key to boot from CD", but on this host, this option is not presented for virtual machines. The time limit is 2000 ms.

The ISO images are located in the data store and DVD player is attributed to connect to power.

The HP ProLiant DL360 G6 server is and in the BIOS, "Local Bus IDE adapter" is set to both. Thanks for any help.

Everything goes well on the newspaper, the Iso is set up correctly on the virtual computer.

Connection ide1:0 to ' / vmfs/volumes/51e31a01-f16017de - 38 a 1-f4ce46b6bd72/BIN/Win2003R2-64 ISO / Win2003R2 - 64.ISO'. IMG = 1 gross = 0 distance = 0

I suspect a non bootable ISO. You can test with a live CD for example, to exclude the question somes with VM?

Kind regards

Julien.

    Hello

I created Dell Datasafe Local Backup recovery media and stored on a USB key.

However my laptop Dell Inspiron has only USB 3.0 ports so when I try to boot on the USB it tells me: "cannot find the image of system recovery. "If you try to restore your pc from a USB 3.0 (blue) USB Port please connect to another USB Port, restart your PC and try Recovery.

If my laptop has no former USB 2 ports and, apparently, Windows 7 doesn't come with native support USB 3 so how can I re - install my system using the USB that I made Dell Datasafe Local backup?

I tried to make a set of Dell Datasafe DVD, but it is not I think that there is a bug in the routine of Datasafe Local Backup DVD recovery media.

  • ESXi 3.5 Update 4 virtual machines cannot boot from ISO image stored on the server

    Ok

If I have one of my virtual machines of ESXi configured to use an ISO image sitting on my server ESXi, they cannot boot from this image.  This is after you click "ESC" during startup in order to change the startup CD-ROM.  I have this a known issue, or I'm just doing something wrong?  If I have the vms use an ISO sitting on my desktop (using Infrastructure Client) it works fine.

Or the answer is even simpler, make sure I connect at power on.

OK, Yes!  But some of the things we take for granted... haha...

  • T500 hard Firmware 3.1 - cannot boot from burned ISO CD

I am trying to burn and run iso from the following location:

    http://www-307.IBM.com/PC/support/site.WSS/document.do?sitestyle=Lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-63685

When I download and burn an ISO (no, not to burn by treating it as an ISO data file) I see all the files on the CD when I preview the it.  If I pull out I can return it and see there are titles on the CD however.

When I boot on the CD after removing my hard drive password I don't see is a blinking underscore _ cursor in the upper left corner of the screen and it's right there, no matter how long wait.  To tell the truth, that I was never able to boot the disk hard iso firmware provided by Lenovo, this is why I would like to especially since it works.

Assuming that you burn the image properly, which, I believe that you do as you can see not all the files on the disc, thought occurred to me that it might be something to do with burning engine.

Please take a look at this thread, the problem seems to be very similar, and I hope that the solution will be the same.

  • HP Pavilion 500-210 QE cannot boot from any hard drive.

Good evening. As you can see on the subject, my computer just cannot boot from any hard disk that I put on it. I tried swapping the power supply, SATA cable, reset the BIOS, allowing the start legacy, changing to AHCI to IDE and RAID...

When I get to the BIOS Setup, I see the hard drive and its features, but it will not start or show when I am trying to install a new OS. I'm not an expert, but I think that the problem could be in the motherboard SATA ports, but I'm not sure. Just to be sure, I tried another harddrive and it did not work as well.

I was also thinking to buy a HDD external and installation of my OS on it, but I don't even know if it is possible and I would really like to have my computer working again.

    Thank you for your attention!

Ok. That doesn't say that it is very likely that the motherboard has problems.

  • Boot Camp Windows Installation 10 - "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. It's the GPT partition style.

    Hello

I tried to dual boot Windows 10 alongside OS X El Capitan on my iMac 21.5 inch i5 end 2013. I have followed all the instructions in the Boot Camp assistant, restart, choose the yellow 'Windows' drive to boot from, but when I get to the Windows installation, enter the product key and language, and then select the partition (0-4, the partition Disk Partition) it tells me that "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is the GPT partition style. »

So I found this answer: How do I install Windows 8.1 on Haswell MBP

But then I received the same error.

    Tried this: http://macriot.com/mcrt/?p=2362

But fdisk TPG allow me to change anything, as the SIP is enabled.

Tried to disable SIP via a command line in a terminal in recovery mode, but got an error-bash: command not found csrutil.

So now I'm stuck on all fronts. Any ideas?

    Thank you

    RedPanda

    1. your iMac end 2013 supports the facilities of BIOS/MBR and GPT/EFI.

    2. the legacy BIOS/MBR method requires a hybrid MBR.

3 EFI/GPT is recommended for your specific model.

    4. you can use the GPT Fdisk steps in your link to make your drive a GPT disk only. It is not enough.

    5. you will need to convert the FAT32 partition space using the following OS X Terminal

    diskutil eraseVolume free disk0s4 FREE

This will return an error, because free space is not associated with disk slices.

    6. at this point, use the USB installer created by the wizard of BC, boot from it and hold down the Alt/Option key and select Boot EFI (not Windows). Point to the portion of the free space that you see after the + 620 MB Recovery HD. It will separate into a small (128 MB) MSR and the rest as MSD (NTFS).

    7. do not install W7 in Boot EFI, because it has some difficulties.

    8. when Windows is installed, and BC drivers are not installed, run setup.exe from the Bootcamp folder.

    9. If csrutil is not found, you are in the recovery of the Internet, because your local Recovery HD is corrupted. The rescue of the failure of the local recovery is restoration of Internet. Your must be on El Capitan. There is no csrutil (or SIP) before El Capitan.

    Hello

I think that your partition on the HARD disk is damaged and so you cannot boot from the HARD drive.
In this case, the HARD drive must be formatted completely and then you could try to install the OS.

It seems also that your drive cannot recognize the CD bootable (WinXP?) and, therefore, it of not possible to boot from the drive.
Well, it really stupid s :_| situation really stupid!

However, did you try to boot from another CD? For example Microsoft Windows original CD?
If not I recommend you to do and eventually the reader will be able to read the CD.
If this isn't the case, so I think that the reader must be checked. Possibly it also corrupted s.

  • Cannot boot from Win 8.1 installation disk

My mother has a Dimension 3000 system that works under XP and now I am trying to install WIndows 8.1 so that she can use banking online again. The problem is that it does not start from the installation disc.

I have upgrade BIOS A03 and update all drivers using the driver Booster 2. Now the system is set at the first start of the CD-ROM, then HARD drive but it ends to always boot from the HARD drive. I'm at about 400 km, so I'll try to help him by phone. I tested for a start from the disc on my own XP and haven't had any problem so the drive is fine. I also ran the upgrade on its system Wizard, and everything was fine.

I don't understand what is wrong, no matter who?

    bgtb

Thank you. OK, so the problem is dimensions 3000 cannot boot from a DVD, only a CD?

Since that she already bought (32-bit OEM) license and opened it, I doubt it will be returned, so I would try to make work in all cases, if that doesn't work I'll have to get a new PC.

If copy us the contents of the DVD on a USB maybe we can boot from that? I'll give you a call tonight.

The system is 10 years old... BIOS A00 - August 2004. The latest version of the BIOS is 8 years old February 2006. This system may be too old to be able to boot from USB.

Other problems exist, the standard installed memory was of 0.5 to 1 GB, 1 GB is minimum requirements so it may also need to be upgraded.

As mentioned in the video, Intel 82865 G is not supported by Intel for Windows Vista or later. For Vista/7, there are a few things that you can use so that it can work, but even then not very much. It will only use the generic driver for Windows 8.1 and the screen will be blurred.

In addition, the systems hard drive is IDE and probable with a low capacity. The hard drive being the most likely component to fail and this type is no longer under production.

So at least you'll need a DVD player, probably some memory and a video card. Even in this case the system doesn't always works well. I recommend wasting money in upgrading such an old machine. For the price of all these improvements, you can buy an OptiPlex 760/780 opportunity on eBay that come with a license of Windows 7. As you have already purchased the Windows 8.1, you could same source on an OptiPlex 745/755 and use your Windows 8.1 this license. All these systems will perform much better than the Dimension 3000.

Of course, you can also look to a new system, the new Dell Inspiron is very cheap and can be done for $230:

    http://www.Dell.com/us/p/Inspiron-3646-small-desktop/PD?OC=fdcwnt7101h&model_id=Inspiron-3646-small-desktop

While it is a low-end model compared to the Dimension 3000, it is a significant improvement.

  • Impossible to boot from iso file on DL385G5p

New VMware customer.  We have 2 new servers DL385 G5p.  There was a bug where the optical drive is not supported in the 123629and build would prevent the ESXi installation.  We got beyond that point through workaround optical drive disconnect and then the most recent installation ESXi patch 143129.  Reconnect the optical drive, but it is not yet usable (SCSI)?.  But at least we can start ESXi.  Good.

The current problem is that I can create a virtual machine, but it will not start with an iso file.  The iso file was transferred to the store of data residing on disks SAS DL385 (same location as the ESXi installation).  I tried an iso file of Windows Server 2003 and also the same iso file ESXi I installed (just to try a well known iso file).

When I start the virtual machine, I get a lot of startup network messages (which are not since there is no installation of network boot).  I can't tell if she actually tries to boot from the iso file.

    My virtual machine properties are:

1 CD/DVD drive, connection to the power device Type = Datastore ISO file = esxi.iso

Is he really trying to start the iso file and think that it is not valid?  Or it not even try to boot from iso?  Can I disable attempts to network boot (I don't see any option in the BIOS of the virtual computer)?

I can start using the device Client (with the Windows Server 2003 cd into the optical drive of my pc).

I don't think you can remove the network boot option.  The virtual machine only generally goes to this last resort if all other boot options do not work.  As long as the .iso image file is good this process should work without problems in the future.

Please allow the points if it was useful.

    Thank you

  • Boot from ISO question

The host is Windows Server 2 k 8 x 64 SP2 STD.  Guest is Windows Server 2 k 3 STD SP2 (32 bit) running in VMWare Workstation 6.5.2.  I need to fix the 2 k 3 VM, which requires that I have boot from the CD, but I don't have that an ISO, CD. I use Daemon Tools Lite to mount the ISO as a drive, but I don't know where to create the virtual DVD_ROM disc such as the virtual machine can / will see when I boot it (I tried to get on the host and the guest). I already went in the BIOS of the virtual machine and modified so that he will see the DVD - ROM drive until he goes on the hard drive. I tried to share my virual DVD_ROM, but have been unable to map it to VMWAre Workstation. None of these things have solved the problem. How do I (or it is even possible to ~) put things up to the boot prompt of the ISO?

Navigate to the virtual machine settings.  (VM menu, settings)  Then change the connection to "Use physical drive" CD to "use ISO Image file.
