Cannot change account type of administrator for the standard user (as recommended)

go to control panel and user of accts and family security and change just the accts and it won't click standard.  I'm the only one using my computer, but I don't like having to sign in each time.

You must create another Admin account before you can change yours to a Standard user.

What is the problem of having to sign in each time?

  • No Option of account Type change under user ID-want to change of Admin for the Standard user

Hi, we have a Vista Home Premium system.  One of the children has received this PC and they are as an administrator with no other users.  Later, I added myself as admin and wanted to change the children as a standard user account type, but there is no option to change account type under their username.  I don't want to change the names where I am the initial administrator and the new standard user are children because they already have a bunch of stuff under their original admin username.  ((1) why I do not see the option to change account type and 2) how to change their standard account type so I can use controls parents?  Thank you!

I want to tell you that if the computer has 1 account only, it will be the default Administrator account and change the standard account type will be gray.

However, you can create a new user account and set a new one as a standard account.

    See article:

  • Limit the control panel and IE for the Standard user account

I'll set up a new computer for a 91 year old customer in a retirement home, who don't use the computer for e-mail and an occasional Wordpad document.  His son wants to put computer in place so that it cannot get to the Internet Explorer browser, or go to control panel, because he bumbles around the keyboard causing all sorts of problems requiring frequent service for me calls.

The operating system is Windows Vista Home BASIC, so gpedit.msc is not installed.  I have activated the system administrator account for my use when I am called to repair the computer and set the Standard user to user account.  The problem is that the only way I found to disable IE and the Control Panel causes them be turned off in BOTH accounts.  I wish I could disable them ONLY in the user account.

The only solution I found to disable the control panel is a registry hack in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current versionpolicies where I put a DWORD 32-bit "NoControlPanel" with a value of 1.  I tried to do that in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive, but it had no effect.  This kind of work, but there are two problems then; Mises_a_jour Windows 1) won't install and 2) when I have to go to work on the computer, I first change administrator user, then change the DWORD value to 0 and finally to restart the computer, causing additional assignments, lengthen my time at work.

Second, the only solution I could find to disable IE was in the default protrams Panel, which disables the administrator as well.

Can someone tell me if there is another way to achieve this, while IE and control panel are disabled only for the user?

Change the security to the IE executable rights? Remove 'Users', while you keep the administrator rights.

For control panel see 'Method Two' in this link:

Thanks for your response, but will not solve problem of this "gentleman". The object is not so much to limit internet access, as it should restrict access to programs.  He is 91 years old, has small hands and types rapidly with two fingers, but made many mistakes.  Disability is before everything to prevent clikety snap everywhere, because he creates sort of a zillion copies shortcuts of the webpage on his desk, until everything hangs and I have to go a push up on his mess. The same reason applies to the Contorl Panel.  We don't want it to be able to get to the Panel "printers."  When a document will not be printed for a reason, he go, dummy click around and created a bunch of copies of the printer, with a gazillian of documents clogged up in the queue of the coil.  I had to cclear up to 100 documents from the spool on 50 copies printer queue.  It's really an economic problem for his son.

Or how you also run a software Administrator without being prompted to enter a password?

    Thanks for your help.

    Matt,

Since you don't have a Vista Home Premium, I found another article that describes a way to get around it to make a registry change.

    The following Web site:
    http://www.eCoustics.com/PCW/HOWTO/140134

Vista Home Premium is not the Group Policy Editor. To make the changes in this version, you must change the registry. Before making any changes to the registry, back it up following the instructions in "block Cookies for spying, but keep the most useful" (scroll down to the area of blue text at the bottom of the page).

With your backup of the registry in place, click Start, type regedit and press ENTER. In the tree on the left pane, navigate to Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. With the icon system selected in the left pane, double-click on ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin in the right pane. Change the data value to 0, then click on OK. You should see the effect immediately (no restart required).

Not sure if this will help, but thought that I have it send your way.

    Thank you

  • Select a type of user account (for example, standard user, restricted user, and other types) on computer XP pro?

    Hello.

I have a question about how to select the type of user account for each user account.

I read that if I type 'control userpasswords2' term, it will bring up a window of hidden user accounts.  In this window, select a name of the user account and click property, click on membership group and it will show all the type of account you can purchase (including the standard user, restricted user, the other who has many other types)

Here is the link I read

    http://www.exnol.com/globally-control-and-change-all-users-passwords-in-Windows

Let's say my computer is XP pro and it is in the home (not domain joined ) working group. Am I able to set these types of accounts to my user account using 'control userpasswords2' just as I explained above?

I was wondering because I read in the microsoft help article or somewhere that it indicates that the computer must be on the field to be able to choose the type of account by using this process, I explained, and one account type you can choose where your computer is located in the Working Group's account admin or limited using the control panel then click on accounts of users... but other said it should not be on the field... I got confused.

I would like to try it myself, but I don't have XP pro computer with me right now, I'd appreciate it really if someone could help me with the answer.

    Hi greenyy,

If you are the administrator of the machine Windows XP Professional, you can use the command 'control userpasswords2' and access the list of user accounts and change the type of account.

You need not necessarily be on a domain, however, it may not work for some types of user accounts on a working group.

A test, you can try to change the type of account for user accounts & check if it works.

Hope the helps of information. Please post back and we do know.

  • Can I change my account from an administrator to a standard account?

I have currently my system set up as an administrator account and want to know if I can change it to a standard account, if yes, how do I do this?

    Hello

    Please contact the Microsoft Community.

Want to know how to change the type of user account to an administrator to a standard user. It's pretty simple and I'm here to help you.

I wish that you perform the steps-

    (a) connect you to your administrator account, click on 'Start', type 'User accounts' (without the quotes) and press "Enter."

    (b) now, click on "Change your account type" and then place a "point" next "Standard".

    (c) click on "Apply changes".

Note: Make sure you have at least one additional account on the computer with privileges 'administrator' to prevent problems with user account controls.

    In addition, see the articles-

Change the type of user account

Why use a standard account instead of an administrator account?

You can use system restore to set up Windows to a point until you have changed the password now:
    1. put your BIOS so that it uses the DVD drive as its primary boot device.
2 start the computer with your Windows 7 repair CD.
    3. press a button if you are prompted to start from the DVD.
    4. When prompted, select "Safe Mode Command Prompt".
5 log in as administrator if you are prompted.
    6. Select repair when prompted.
    7. When you are prompted, select System Restore.
    8. set Windows to a point before this problem occurred.
    9. When finished, remove the CD before restarting the system.
In step 2, you can also use the Windows 7 installation DVD. The subsequent steps are similar to those above.

When you're done, plan and create a second account. admin record its details on paper so that it will never happen.
